Thank you, really appreciate the clear and close up shots. Your explanations are always good and easy to follow. One thing that I do struggle with is that you do your measurements in 16ths not millimetres :) 🇬🇧
Thank you Darren. We make the baseplates. Here's a link to our website where we have them. www.makeawoodsign.com/shop/index.php?route=product/category&path=6 If you have any other questions please let me know. eric@makeawoodsign.com
Glad to see you any day, really informative video and (when I'm allowed {got to listen to my wife}) I'm going to treat myself to a couple of them. Hope you're all well. I'll carry on watching.
Here's a video we did recently on that subject. ruclips.net/video/uFT2gg0j7E4/видео.html Thank you for watching and let me know if you have any other questions, eric@makeawoodsign.com
We don't have one pre drilled for your router but we have a Blank baseplate that all you would need to do is drill your own mounting holes. Here's the blank baseplate on our website www.makeawoodsign.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&path=6&product_id=399 Here's the video on the installation ruclips.net/video/Q93Zf0DX6kE/видео.html Hope this helps.
Glad you did this it helps for us beginners, I'm sure you have a video where you cut patterns all the way through with designs could you point it out please and thanks for all your videos. Oh btw I liked the commentaries on your crooked sign lol
Thank you Jim!!! I actually have an entire playlist dedicated to "cutting shapes with the router" There are 20 videos in there. The ones with dad are the best. Thank you again!!!
Hi Do you recommend a plunge or fixed base for carving letters etc ? Just starting out. I’m used to large routers as I fit kitchen worktops etc. I’m in the Uk. Any advice appreciated. Might purchase the vonhaus palm router and make a clear base ? Great videos
I always use a fixed base. The palm router are great for carving signs. You can certainly use full size routers, I did for decades. However the palm routers are lots easier to control, especially with a baseplate. I definitely suggest making a baseplate similar to ours. Thank you so much for watching and the kind words. If I can answer any other questions for you please email me directly, eric@makeawoodsign.com
In my opinion, the plunge router is way bigger than you need to carve a sign. It's just more difficult to handle and maneuver. Especially when doing smaller artwork.
Thanks for the demo. I think it would be helpful if you cut the sample board from side to side to show the cross section of each cut. That would give a better image of how deep we should be cutting. I figured the camera was tilted a little bit.
Dave, it looks like you seldom put your base all the way down when you’re cutting. I've noticed this in several of your video demonstrations. It looks like you tend to hold the base (farthest from you) up a little. Is this by habit or because you can control the cut a little better?
Just habit.... I know it looks that way but my base is down almost all of the time. The only time I lift it is on super fine detail when I need a thinner line and I don't want to take the time to adjust the depth.
Thanks, Mike! We use palm routers more than anything. But we do quite a bit of power carving with a foredom and angle grinder as well. We don't use chisels, but might dive into that later on as well. We try to come up with creative cool looking projects using all kinds of different methods.
This is the instructions on bits I've been looking for!!! Thanks!!!!
Our pleasure, buddy!

Eric; question that sign you have in this video with you and Vicki name on it, what is the sizes of the letters?
2" and 1 1/2" on the top line. 1" on the bottom line. Hope this helps
Is there an advantage to not using a plunge router?
In my opinion, the plunge router is way bigger than you need to carve a sign. It's just more difficult to handle and maneuver. Especially when doing smaller artwork.
TY😁

Good point Bob. I will do that next time.
This is a great demo, Eric; keep 'em coming!
Thank you Dave!!!
eric for president!!
Thank you, LOL, I'd rather be attorney general....
Is your profile bit 30 degree?
15 degrees down the side to a 45 degree point..
what dewalt router is used?
My favorite router is the DWP611 and also the cordless version DCW600

Freehand carving ?
Yup. Everything we do is freehand. We don't use a CNC or computer for our carving.
@@oldave100 I understand, and awesome work and videos by the way. What is meant to ask is, are you using handheld routers, hand chisels or both ?
Thanks, Mike! We use palm routers more than anything. But we do quite a bit of power carving with a foredom and angle grinder as well. We don't use chisels, but might dive into that later on as well. We try to come up with creative cool looking projects using all kinds of different methods.
@@oldave100 Awesome. I am doing signs as a hobby and love to learn
