This technique works amazing. I watched this video, did what Eric said to, and it was perfect. I carved my first sign ever using their baseplate and the profile bit that i ordered from you guys and it turned out awesome. Thank you!!
Hey Eric, Great Video. I use my Inkjet as well. I however use a transparency film. I rough them up with 100 grit sandpaper (WET) and scratch up an down, sideways and diagonal both ways. These are reusable many many times. In fact I am still using the same one for over 7 months. Happy carving.
Thanks for the idea. The only problem I had is the paper kept jamming. So I just taped a piece of paper on it and it worked great. Works great. Was able to do 2 transfers from one sheet
Yea it's funny how some printers can be touchy. Vicki and I have exactly the same model of printer. Mine works fine, and hers jams up. Taping to another piece of paper works or even a glue stick instead of tape.
Love it, love it! I know where I'm going after work today...getting me some freezer paper and spending an afternoon in the shop! Thanks for sharing this time saving technique Eric!
My printer works fine but some printers are finicky and won't work well. I've heard you can tape the freezer paper to a normal piece of paper and then it feeds thru great. Haven't tried it yet but it makes sense.
Attempted my very first router carving on pine. I used a drill master 120 volt 1/4" trim router and the bit I used was a 1/4 straight bit, only because they didn't have a profile bit. I know I'll need a better router and bits eventually, but I was just trying g this out for size to see if its something I'd like to eventually do and I'M SO IN!!! It's not great but it give me a feel for the handling of the router and the figuring out the best depth for the bit. Thanks for all the videos and great advice.
@@oldave100 I'm sure I will have many questions down the line and appreciate your help in advance. Oh, I forgot to mention that since I don't have a printer, to print a stencil, I used vinyl. I have a cricut die cutting machine and was able to cut out a stencil of my subject. It was very helpful in keeping me from carving out what I shouldn't. I will email you a photograph

Thanks, I've just bought a secondhand router (to see if it's for me) I did notice that the on/off switch had to be held while working 9all the videos show a positive on-off) I was wondering is this ok or is there a problem and if so is it an easy fix?
I ordered the freezer paper you used on the fish video when you did a comparison, I am getting frustrated because no matter what I try the wood grain keeps coming through and it looks horrible.. can please give me a thorough tutorial on how to prep the wood? Or tell me what I’m doing wrong. My husband put the wood (pine) through a plainer and sanded it and the wood grain and fine white line come through because of the wood grain! Please recommend something! Thank you
Hi Jean, I'm not really sure what you mean. When you transfer something onto wood, the grain is definitely going to show. Shoot me some pictures and I'll try to help. ryan@makeawoodsign.com
I like the freezer paper idea. What I've been doing is to print the design on regular white paper, then use charcoal on the reverse side to follow the design. Then I place that on the wood, and trace it with a pencil. THEN... you have to trace it again on the wood, over the charcoal because if you don't when you use the router, it erases the charcoal. Several steps more than freezer paper! :)
Wow. Great video. The close up camera work really made the difference; easy to see the profile bit work and to see how well the transfer took to the wood. Great job and thanks. New subscriber and will be ordering from your website. Happy Thanksgiving.
Thank you, thank you, Dave Rhoten, and the one who sent this tip. I needed something like this to help me pay some bills. Guess Jesus seems to always shine the light, "knock and the door shall be answered..." and "seek ye the kingdom first, and all shall be added unto you." What a way to "freeze" an image.
Just a tip, if your freezer paper does not feed into the printer, I use a regular piece of printing paper as a backing and just glue the end where the printer grabs. I have found this to work for me. Some printers are a little fussy.
Great job my friend. I was just looking for a way to transfer images and words to my pallet projects, BUT you have inspired me to try my router for carving. Thanks!
Glad you liked it, but here's a better updated video ruclips.net/video/YQz51Mln6_U/видео.html If you have more questions you can email me directly eric@makeaoodsign.com
Just when I thought that inkjet transfer processes don't yield good results, the reynolds!! can't believe how good that looks. And pretty quick too! Cheers buddy, great stuff, i'm going to try it on my next sign i'm about to start! I wonder if this works with laser jet/toner based printers?
Definitely going to give this a go.i would normally print a stencil and use carbon paper and draw around everything, this freezer paper could save alot of time . I've never liked the idea of glueing the stencil to the wood ,just to messy. .I've also seen someone use lazer print paper, face down and a warm iron,..and you iron the image to the wood and yes it does work..lol..
Another method that works is the one done by Aceman on RUclips, and I have tested it using freezer paper and it does work. The idea of drying it in the sun for hours was nice but it was night, and it was cold, so I just dried it all inside, and I only waited until it was actually dry, not hours. I tested it on text - I have a Tshirt Transfer setting on my printer that does the flipping for me, but it flips everything, so I have to flip the images that I want but leave the text as is. Print on the side with glue, and the image on my inkjet appeared glossier than on regular paper. (I found this out by printing on the wrong side, but I just flipped it over after that was dry and did it on the correct side. Materials were Krylon Matte clear spray from Walmart, Elmers Glue All, not the washable stuff, and freezer paper. After printing, and letting it dry for a while, I did have to see if the ink smeared, and it didn't. And after I put the image face down onto the second coat of glue - the wet one - I only waited until the glue above my image was dry. My test was text, and it came out looking as sharp and clear as the Inkjet Tshirt Transfer paper left them, but it was easier and no ironing. My impatience could have screwed things up, but after the paper treatment dried overnight (spray and one coat of glue), my whole test took about 90 minutes. I do small stuff, so although the freezer paper is supposed to be reuseable, I cut my images out so I have to make another sheet for more images, but I have a sheet full of them to use first...
I just came across your video again but this time watched one all the way through. My other videos were in regard to leatherworking and burnishing and all that kind of good stuff. I’m just trying to figure out what it is I want to do. I’ve always been an artistic person and I’ve tried many things; photography pencil art, making leather leashes a long LIVE rifle straps and dog collars. I was thinking even using my Dremel on the leather so that is what I’ve been doing recently YouTubing videos about that (Pyrography). I have always drawn free handed with anything I’ve done. But what you hear did on this video is amazing, I really do like it and you did a wonderful job at representing it so just about anybody could understand it. Thank you sir for a great video, will look forward to seeing moreOr trying to backtrack to all the others that you have put out there already. Happy New Year 2018, May you and your family have a great year and don’t look back!

Thank you for watching. Yes, absolutely you can copy photos to wood. Here's one of our latest videos on inkjet transfer process. I could be done with a color photo just as easy. ruclips.net/video/fW0X13HYoT8/видео.html
Great video. Some people save the back part of label paper thats plastic coated and do the same thing. Its an easy way to add a photo directly to wood also.
I think a different tool to press it down and transfer the image with is in order. What tool? IDK yet. But something with a blunt point. Maybe a custom dowel or something with a dull point on it.
Cool vid! Thanks for sharing! Couple questions...1. You mention that you normally use a sanding finish after sanding, what is that? What is it's benefit? 2. How long after you printed onto the freezer paper did you make the transfer? Thanks again for such great info...lovin' your channel!
Thank you Andrea. 1. I always us Sanding Sealer on pine. It's made to seal up wood and they sell it at Lowes. Pine has a tendency to bleed when you spray it with black. Because it raises the grain you need to knock it down by hand sanding slightly if you're going to do a transfer like this. 2. I normally print it within a few min of applying the transfer. If you have any other questions you can email me directly, eric@makeawoodsign.com. Thanks again for watching.
If you go to our video #241 we have links in the description of that video to everything that we use. Hope this helps. If you're looking for some specifically or have more questions you can email me directly eric@makeawoodsign.com. Thank you for watching.
Not a stupid question, I should have said it. The glossy side is what you want to print on. Thank you for watching and please let me know if you have any other questions, eric@makeawoodsign.com
@@oldave100 I tried to print on the glossy side but the print is wet and as soon as you touch the sheet the drawing is ruined safe to use inkjet or laser jet?
I'd use an iron to transfer the image, it is after all the friction heat that 'melts' the wax on the freezer paper that transfer the image. But a very good idea no matter what .
Hi Dave. Thanks for yet another great video. It occurs to me that the wooden spoon is creating heat from friction so I wonder if the generation of heat is as much a factor in transferring the image as the applied pressure? If so, you should try using a clothes iron on a very very low setting to see if this could transfer the image even better. Please give it a try and let us know if you have any success. :)
I tried it... It does transfer some using heat, but the rubbing techniques works better. I'll do this on video soon. Thank you for the question and for watching, Eric
what have you found is the best way to keep your wood secured so it doesn't move when you're working? i've had some luck with the foamy stuff that you put inside drawers or cabinets (not sure what that's actually called) and i also used g-clamps, but they made minor indentations into the wood. I'm really enjoying watching your videos, you have a friendly demeanor that makes learning from you quite enjoyable!
Thank you Michele, I very much appreciate you watching and the nice compliments. I use a drawer liner rubber pad that I love. Check out video Coffee & Questions 10/2/17. Thanks again and if I can answer any other questions, you can email me directly, eric@makeawoodsign.com.

Guess Jesus seems to always shine the light, "knock and the door shall be answered..." and "seek ye the kingdom first, and all shall be added unto you." What a way to "freeze" an image.
Thank you for watching Rey, glad you enjoyed it. Lots more to come in 2018. Happy New Year, Eric
Good Job. I have seen the latest video using photo paper as well as using label paper.
Thanks Roy!
WOA! I wasn't sure what to expect. It opened up my eyes!
Glad you liked it.... Thank you for watching...
Just a tip, if your freezer paper does not feed into the printer, I use a regular piece of printing paper as a backing and just glue the end where the printer grabs. I have found this to work for me. Some printers are a little fussy.
Great point, that's where the label backers may work better. They feed through the printers easier.
Yes I have seen that but I have not tried it yet. Freezer paper is cheap so that is the way I went
Great Video! Really like the new transfer process! Thanks for the Great Tips!!
Glad you liked it. Works good...
Very cool process... Thank you for sharing! Just started watching your channel and I am hooked... :)
Thank you so much for watching, happy to help. Let me know if I can answer any specific questions for you. eric@makeawoodsign.com.
Great job my friend. I was just looking for a way to transfer images and words to my pallet projects, BUT you have inspired me to try my router for carving. Thanks!
Thank you Eddie. Glad you liked it. Happy I could inspired you to try it out.
That was sooo useful..especially the carving.. thank you! From tasmania, Australia
Thank you so much for watching, happy you enjoyed it...
Wow!! I need to transfer a logo to a tv tray top before I epoxy it. Thank you.
Glad you liked it, but here's a better updated video ruclips.net/video/YQz51Mln6_U/видео.html If you have more questions you can email me directly eric@makeaoodsign.com
Very nice work Dave, really like your videos
Thank you so much!!!
Just an amazing skill and job out put 🎉 K
Thank you!
Love how natural you guys are lol keep it up
LOL, Thank you Freddy, that's all we know how to be.....
Just when I thought that inkjet transfer processes don't yield good results, the reynolds!! can't believe how good that looks. And pretty quick too! Cheers buddy, great stuff, i'm going to try it on my next sign i'm about to start! I wonder if this works with laser jet/toner based printers?
Thanks Mike, I don't know I haven't tried it with the laser printer yet. I'm skeptical because the laser ink gets hot.
I've tried the iron on and I like this much better.
Thank you for your input. I may check into that and give it a try. Thank you for watching, Eric
Great video. The best part is the blue lives matter bracelet, thanks for the support. I will try this method.
Thank you for keeping us safe. It's my honor to support our men & women in blue. Merry Christmas!!!
Another great video! Love the new transfer process. Opens up a whole new world of possibilities for inkjet users. Have a wonderful weekend!!!
I agree, lots of different possibilities. Vicki and I are going on a road trip this weekend. It's always fun traveling with my girl...

Thank you so much for the kind words and for watching!!!
Awesome job guys, keep up the great work.
Thank you, glad you liked it....
Thank you Donna for watching and all the nice compliments. Sounds like you are very talented and if you choose to make some signs I'm sure be good at it in a short period of time. Please let me know if I can answer any specific questions for you, eric@makeawoodsign.com.
good job Eric
Thank you Burt.....
l LOVE the tip! This is why I love U-Tube stuff like this is invaluable! THANK YOU Sr.
You're very welcome, Thank you for the kind words and for watching, glad you find it helpful
Great video, steady hand is amazing.
Thank you for the kind words and for watching!!!
Thank you for showing this!!! I tried it an works GR8!
Glad it worked for you. Best I've found so far.
Ready to try my hand at sign making. Thanks so much for all the videos and the valuable info. Can you give me some info on the bits you used for this craving. Thanks
Thank you for watching Alex. The bit that I used on this sign is our profile bit. Here's a link to a video I did a while back that show all the bits we use and what each one of them does. ruclips.net/video/afKK8isUukM/видео.html They are all available on our website makeawoodsign.com. If you have any other questions you can email me directly eric@makeawoodsign.com. Thanks again, Eric
You Sir should be a surgeon !
LOL, Thank You....
Hi thats great work. Can one photo copy photos onto to freeze paper and put it onto wood? Cheers Great video thank you.
Thank you for watching. Yes, absolutely you can copy photos to wood. Here's one of our latest videos on inkjet transfer process. I could be done with a color photo just as easy. ruclips.net/video/fW0X13HYoT8/видео.html
OMG this is sooo cool Thanks Eric!
Thank you David...
Great video. Some people save the back part of label paper thats plastic coated and do the same thing. Its an easy way to add a photo directly to wood also.
Gonna give that a try... Great to see you and Tammy yesterday, thank you for coming by.
Great vid. Subbed. This is what im getting into.
Thank you Richard, have fun and let me know if you have any questions I can help with eric@makeawoodsign.com.
Great video guys. Eric good way to transfer images. I love the bits story, that would have happened to me. Lol
LOL, yes happened to me again this morning. I've gotta slow down...
Certainly a great tip. Greatly appreciated !
Thank you...
I think a different tool to press it down and transfer the image with is in order. What tool?
IDK yet. But something with a blunt point. Maybe a custom dowel or something with a dull point on it.
I like my router bit depth gauge made from 1/4" acrylic. Here's a video ruclips.net/video/XTFPx9R-Z3k/видео.html
nice work cowboy!!!
Thank you...
great video just what ive been looking for
Thank you for watching John.....Vicki
You guys are so awesome! Thank you for sharing your work.
Thank you James, we appreciate you watching and all the kind words.....
Thanks again for watching.
ok like your video but where can I find that tools and machines that you use it please
If you go to our video #241 we have links in the description of that video to everything that we use. Hope this helps. If you're looking for some specifically or have more questions you can email me directly eric@makeawoodsign.com. Thank you for watching.
sorry for the stupid question, but I have to print the glossy part of the paper or the other? tnx
Not a stupid question, I should have said it. The glossy side is what you want to print on. Thank you for watching and please let me know if you have any other questions, eric@makeawoodsign.com
@@oldave100 I tried to print on the glossy side but the print is wet and as soon as you touch the sheet the drawing is ruined
safe to use inkjet or laser jet?
I like the engraving very much (Joseph and Mary), well done, thank you for sharing
Thank You!!!
I'd use an iron to transfer the image, it is after all the friction heat that 'melts' the wax on the freezer paper that transfer the image. But a very good idea no matter what .
Thank you for the tip Kenneth.
Wow, so many great tips. Thanks.
Glad you're getting some good info. Thank you for watching
Certainly trying this with my inkjet printer, thank you, looks great!
I think you'll like it.
Very nice 👍 great video
Thanks, buddy!
Wonderful artwork
Thank you....
Muy bonito, felicidades. Un saludo desde España.
Salvador, Thank you for watching. Greetings to you in Spain from America
would one of those smoothing rollers work better, added pressure and even distribution
I may give that a try, Thank you....
Cool, I love your youtube and website
Hi Dave
I hope you're doing well
I wonder why don't you use the plunge part on the dewalt router?
Is not better control for the depth!
Thanks
We're doing great over here. I never have cared for the plunge router for freehand sign carving. Way too bulky and harder to control. Just my preference.
