The video is not so clear as when u talk the words cover the guitar so we cannot follow or see
@@waynecampbell8508 you need to turn your closed captioning off. It's the little CC at the bottom of video. I think it's on the right.
I already did and started practicing it today.
As a 76 year old, I finally have dug in and started enjoying learning guitar. Your kind and gentle approach makes it so easy to stay motivated, and I'm sure the little bits of progress I am making are providing a solid foundation for continued improvement. This makes learning fun! Well done and thank you.
Great to hear!
As a beginning 62 year old I couldn’t agree more! You’re making this so enjoyable!!
I’m 52 years old and have been playing guitar for 46 of those years. I wish I had been taught this way because I would have improved much quicker than I did.
She is a better teacher than the men. Thorough, slow, precise & shows closeups of exactly where to place fingers. Doesn't rush through it like the men do. I like her teaching technique the most
Agreed !
I love your teaching. I am a 65 year old man trying to take up guitar to lead worship for our Home Bible Study. Thank you,
Randy what a wonderful goal! So happy to help.
Finally a lesson that makes sense to me.
Hey Wendy, thank you so much. Glad I was able to help

My first time ever. I'm 77 and I'm so motivated after watching you.
That is awesome!
@@LaurenBateman What guitar wld u start a beginner on? Maybe a Yamaha 830 acoustic? I'm researching! :)
I agree!!! Just turned 54!!!
Nancy give us an update 3 months later(I am a new nooby)
I've had my guitar for ages, wanting to play, but was so motivated as now. I love the way you simplify your lesson. I really learnt a lot in that first lesson. Thanks so much.
Lauren Bateman is far and away the most thorough, patient and sincere professor of guitar I have as yet encountered. Thank you so much for your selfless effort and exceptional attitude. Please continue in good health. Michigan USA.
Aww Richard, thank you. Hope you're staying warm in Michigan.
Hi Lauren. I tried to begin playing guitar a couple years ago but then hurt my left hand and gave up. Since I recently found your channel, I am back at it . Thank you for simplifying things for us older guys who just want to make some music in spite of our wear and tear. Keep up your excellent work. God bless, Chris.
You can do it!
Hey Lauren! Just another 60 something year old thanking you for these amazing slow lessons and making it much more fun to learn the guitar at an older age! You rock!!! Thank you! I really appreciate you!
Glad you like them!
Hi Lauren,I am a lady from Sri Lanka(the profile photo is of my late husband who passed away 2 years ago😢)..went to a teacher or two, stopped playing few years ago, now I feel very lonely and took out my guitar again, which is a Birthday gift from my hubby.Thank God I found you, your explaining ,finger exercises, are excellent.
Thank you Lady, will keep practicing 👍🙏
Awww, I am so sorry for your loss but so happy to help you!
Hope you’re keeping up with the guitar practice. Your late husband must be so proud of you. ❤️
New beginner at age 70. Your exercises are helpful. Find I have to go slower with spider exercise and picking. All so new and enjoying it. I practice about half hour a day. Sometimes a bit less. Hardest part for me is getting fingers into position and will stick with it. You are easy to understand and patient.
Gail, go as slow as you need. Speed will come with time. 😊
Lauren I am 63 and taking up guitar for the first time. With a plethora of "experts" on RUclips and having gone through a ton of them, you are by far THE BEST! Your style, your speed with us, your patience, your repetition and your attitude are over and above everyone else. Just sayin! Keep it up and I think by Christmas if I can get over finger tip pain, I may just get the hang of it. Thank you!
Larry, wow, thank you. That's quite the compliment. 😊 I am so happy to help. We will get you started by Christmas. I actually have a new Christmas course for beginners coming out very soon!
@@LaurenBateman hey thanks for commenting Lauren. I do have a question though how in the world do you get through that fingertip pain blister Etc
@@larrysingley1449 What I have learned is just keep playing. Sometimes when I am sitting around watching tv I press my fingers on the strings. I have been doing that for only about a week and they are already getting better. Just don't play until you bleed. I am developing callouses slow but sure! I am 60 and in the same position you are! We got this!
@@jilprantner6322 Thank you Jil. I appreciate you responding and yes we do!
I'm picking up the guitar now that I'm now retired. Lauren's approach to the beginner student is terrific, thank you Lauren
You're so welcome!
I've been playing guitar/bass for quite a while but I just bought my sister a guitar and I've been looking for digestible, easy-to-follow, beginner demo's. This is by far the most patient and simplistic I've come across, excellent for 1st timers! 👌
Aww thanks Noel
Playing the guitar has been always a goal of mine. I had tried to look into tutorials on YT for a while but have always founds myself getting frustrated right away. Your method and way of teaching is absolutely helpful and I’m so glad I found you. Thank you.

Hi Lauren ..I am an old folk and wanted to learn to play guitar and I was pretty confused to how to go about it , until I found your lessons making everything a lot easier .....thank you so much !!

Hi 👋🏽 I’m 61 and wanted to learn guitar for the first time ever! You make it seem like fun and not an impossible hobby!! Thanks so much!! Good to see there are others in my age group! 😅
Go for it!
Hi Laura Scott…
I started about when you did
I’m loving these lessons … how are your enjoying?
After Gall bladder exploded, I had stepped away, but coming back to it I still find Lauren Bateman a necessity for a beginner, get seated get strumming down and up, and fret fingering both down and up, add a few chords. I may not be a Marathon runner, I am not taking a step and landing flat on my face either. I am trying to get my kid to grasp the techniques of LEARNING I am hoping well through doing it and Ms. Bateman`s Tutelage he finally sees. I can only continue, hope and I can express gratitude towards teachers like this.
I’m 47 and just started dabbling in trying to learn how to play. Hands down the best beginners video I’ve came across so far. Your methods and the way you explain things are on another level. The other video are more like the musicians are showing off on how they can play and go over everything waaaaay too fast to “ LEARN “ anything. So glad I discovered your vids. Thank you !
~ Mark
Happy to help! Good luck on your guitar journey 😊
Hi Lauren
I just want to say thank you. I am dyslexic and have been frightened away from music lessons all my life. As a singer I have found myself increasingly interested and at 60 I am determined to begin to play acoustic guitar so I can play at open mic nights etc. Your approach is just what I needed, I wish I had found you years ago. At last I am confident I will get to play & sing. THANK YOU very much 🙂
Wow. So happy to help you!!!

I love Lauren’s videos she makes them extremely easy and step by step parts and close ups she deserves more attention from beginner guitarists to advanced guitarists

Dear Lauren, l like your mehod of teaching the guitar chords and secondly you have so much patience to explain so softly. Above all you have incredible understanding for many elderly people,

Im 63 and learning to play guitar has always been on my bucket list have been looking around for a starter guitar have watched a few of your videos and love the way you break it down and explain for beginners very nice videos . Pushing me to go get that first guitar.
hi Lauren , being a 57 year old who always wanted to play & never did or got around to it after seeing these videos & your over 50s older video, i am now looking for my first guitar & your course is top of my list so back as soon as i find one, or soon as boris lifts lock down & shops are open again :) regards from the UK
That is awesome! Like I said, you are never too old to learn. So once the shops open again, grab that guitar 😉
This is a *fantabulous* lesson, Lauren! You're such a good instructor. Seriously. 👍BTW, I incorporated your tips on applying less pressure on the strings. I definitely noticed a *WAY less painful* practice session. Thank you for this brick-by-brick playlist! 🎶😄
Hey Joyce, thank you so much. That makes me so happy that my lessons helped you.
This is awesome teaching Lauren and I’m enjoying every minute of learning to play. I live in Australia and I feel like I’m in school again but this time having a lot more fun, doing what I love most. Thankyou so much for the time you put in 😃 🎸 🎶
You're welcome so much!
A tip to build callouses: don't even pick up a pick. Fret these strings every day for a comfortable length of time, even more as your fingers get used to it, thereby getting some toughen finger tips. I have a little something I use between picking up my guitar and mandolin, but it's not necessary for a beginner to get familiar with holding the instrument. After a period of time, talking small breaks doing other things, maybe, you should notice it gets easier to fret those notes. Use your pinky as well, because you will use it more often than is presented here. Watch other better guitar players to see what I mean. Then get your pick and hit a few notes from the first frets in as many places up the neck to get the feel with your left hand. You will notice that the notes get higher in pitch the further toward the sound hole you go. Use that pinky too. Try to reach to the next fret, skipping the adjacent fret. That pinky finger will come in handy in the future as you get better with guitar, or mandolin. Cheers, and good luck. Bob
Great tips Robert. Thanks for sharing!
Hi lauren- just wanted to thank you! You have a huge gift and I feel so blessed, truly. I’ve been playing on and off since 2020, but since discovering your channel this year, I’ve been playing consistently and learn at least one song a week

Maximus, thank you so much. That makes me so happy that my lesson helped you.
Among the many things I truly like about your teaching strategy or techniques is the fact that.you erase the myth that it's hard to learn how to play the guitar.
By having learned just those simple cords you've thought me, I'm having such a good time playing a bunch of songs such as. "A horse with no name" and "stand by me" . I'm also learning "California dreamin" and your advice about avoiding or substituting the barred cords helped a lot.

Day three of picking up my guitar. It felt cool when I could feel our guitars resonating. I don’t know where you live, but I am living in Dillon, Montana. I live by myself. Virtual, but still a sense of connection, which we need dearly as humans. Thank you, Lauren!
