    Excellent demo.
    Your 15 minutes structured path to "Practice makes Progress" right from spider, to chord changes using metronome exercises is a proper measure of progress. This is organising efficiently toward meaningful success.
    Thank you Lauren, you are a great motivator.

    I learned guitar for two years but quit three years ago. Back then, I used to practice around 100 hours a month. I remember spending one entire day practicing SRV's "Scuttle Buttin'"-I worked on just the first two bars for 9 hours, but I couldn't get beyond 40% speed. That experience frustrated me so much that I stopped playing guitar altogether.
    Recently, I've been focusing on piano, practicing 6-8 hours a day, and I'm always getting positive feedback from my progress. Now, I’ve decided to pick up the guitar again, but with a different approach-just 15 minutes of practice a day.

    I purchased a copy of Guitar Pro and it has some excellent features that will be handy for your practice. A built-in Metronome and a list of all the scales and modes to practice. What I also like is the fret display that allows you to write music with sound and learn all the notes and placement. It has many features and the version 8 is approximately $60: depending on your ability to find discounts. Well worth the investment to me.

    Very interesting making the point regarding relaxing the left hand Lauren. I once heard Mark Knopfler say his biggest piece of advice was relaxing the left hand. I'm 3 and a half years in and this is something I really struggle with. My hands are small and my index and pinkie curve inwards, so if I'm doing that exercise at the 5th fret, if I relax by the time I put my 3rd finger down my index finger has slid into the 6th fret so not getting the stretch. There is no chance I can spread 3 fingers across 3 frets in the first position. I can only just reach a full C chord and wouldn't be able to use it in a song. So left hand relaxation is a real issue for me

    I'm using this video daily-- including a minute of literally warming my hands and fingers and stretching them before I start.
    Three fingers ARE getting better. That pinky though...? She's a rebel.
    I read somewhere a guy said, "Oh, ya wanna learn guitar? Let's get this part out of the way first then, and you read this back at your leisure: your hands and fingers ARE big enough, and you're never too old to learn anything you feel passionate about."
    But that pinky though? LOL... We're naming her "Bonaparte"! She's feisty and uncooperative as hell. 😊

    For the spider exercise, is one of the goals to keep each finger down on the chords as you play through it or is it ok to raise the other fingers up as you play each chord?
    I ask because I have small fingers and sometimes it is harder for me to keep my ring finger and pinky down.

    • @LaurenBateman
      @LaurenBateman  4 месяца назад +1

      Holding fingers down will work on the stretch. Lifting will help with working on relaxation.

      It's totally normal to feel frustrated when learning a new skill like playing the guitar. Progress can sometimes be slow, and it's easy to get discouraged when things don't go as planned. Keep practicing, and don't be too hard on yourself. Improvement takes time, but with persistence, you'll get there!

      Every golfer I know should watch this. Build form, then sequence and do it slow enough so you can he it solid. Then increase speed, until form and sequence breaks down, then stop and slow it down so you can hit it solid again. If you can’t get it right go hit putts, don’t practice badly.
