      @@streetako maybe its just me. I was playing splatoon 3s new dlc and its a roguelite and I was having a blast with it so I revisited dead cells only to do 2 runs then on the 3rd run I felt like I was doing the same things I did in the first 2. Dead cells just doesn't have enough variation between runs you still go to the same places with the same goals just with the rooms switched up and weapons switched up wich I find very repetitive

  • @PhantomInfinity
    @PhantomInfinity 9 месяцев назад +3

    You should play Hades if you haven't already. You get to pick which weapon you start with and the abilities stay generally the same throughout a run.

  • @SSNinja427
    @SSNinja427 11 месяцев назад +29

    Small note; Dead Cells does give you a diverse choice of starting weapons... in a permanently unlocked item you get, I believe, by beating the Hand of the King on 2BC (beat HotK twice). I love Dead Cells, it's one of my favourite games of all time, but dammit, I'd REALLY like to have that choice sooner! I breezed through 0 and 1BC so I didn't have that issue but it SUUUCKS to not have that choice early on and even just tying it to your first win would be so much better for new players. That way they'd be interested in beating 1BC, getting them to 2BC, which is where the game goes from good to GREAT.
    8/10 vid would watch again

    • @yeahkeen2905
      @yeahkeen2905 11 месяцев назад +2

      Unless they changed it the item you’re talking about is simply one that you buy from the collector that gives you 4 whole loadouts to pick from at the beginning of each run.

    Nice video, I personally disagree with your claims but heres why: on the whole speed doors thing, later down a run the speed doors (if your route has any) will get more and more lenient, on the whole green weapon issue, thats a serious problem without the dlcs when starting out considering the most readily available blueprint for survival is the broadsword, but the merchandise categories blueprint can help with finding on color weapons in shops, making it easier to get a survival scaling item, on top of this when you beat 1bc you unlock a set of tubes giving you more options for items you can choose before starting your next run giving a higher chance of finding a full color build on entering a run. And about the pirate captain, running a shield will usually stun most enemies (including some bosses), granted you did state how you allways forget about parrying but i do agree with how fast they launch their attacks being bs. Oh and almost nobody likes the distillary, its the easiest way to end your run. But your opinion is yours, if you dont like rougelikes thats fine

    • @xJayhawkFANx

    • @44burn1
      @44burn1 8 месяцев назад

      @@xJayhawkFANx With successful runs typically lasting 30 minutes for me, and a lot of stuff to unlock through purchases and progression. Each enemy has a chance of dropping something purchasable from the collector, be it a costume, mutation, or weapon. New routes are discovered every run and boss cells opening alternate routes (like the ramparts leading to Conjunctivitis at 3bc)
      I agree with you, you'd have to be a speedrunner to see half of what dead cells offers in 20 hours

    A bit of background to "Dead Cells". It was made by indie french studio Motion Twin who, prior to that, spent 20 years making excellent browser games and a few mobile games. Among them, "Hordes", or for the english version, "Die2Nite". "Dead Cells" was originally supposed to be a prequel to Hordes and was first named "Hordes Zero". It is their first ever non browser non mobile game.

    An interesting perspective on a game I was interested in but never ended up buying. I always find first impressions especially with the quit moment being gone over in the video interesting. Sure information isn't always 100% accurate as can usually be found in comments telling someone they are wrong but for a new player information never is and it's up to the developers to ensure players learn how things work. The comment sections can be an interesting dive as experienced players chip in often showing where games fail to motivate or teach players.

    If you don't like Roguelikes, then Dead Cells does tend to be frustrating. Even I, who has 200 hours in the game and is so very close to completing everything, finds the levels before the first boss very repetitive. I do still find joy in completing later levels though. The game is best played with a very patient playstyle, rushing through levels is often going to cause you to be very weak, and makes you take too much unnecessary damage. The game doesn't really communicate this well though, with the speed buff obtained when killing enemies fast, and with the timed doors. I usually don't like repetitive games like this, and I prefer games with heavy story or in-depth gameplay, which Dead Cells frankly doesn't provide, but really the only reason I still play this game is because I'm an absolute demon with parrying and parrying gives me so much joy. The game has quite a few design flaws, and so if the combat doesn't resonate well with the player, these flaws will become painfully apparent.

    The most interesting thing about this video is that pretty much everything you said in this video is completely fair for a first playthrough, but after playing a lot of dead cells pretty much everything you complained about simply isn't a problem, both due to understanding the game more, and unlocking more options. I definitely don't remember having any of the problems you had when I first played the game but I can definitely see why you would them.

    I enjoyed Dead Cells when it was new, but kinda feel the same way about it now. Sad part is, most action platform roguelikes tend to use the same mold as Dead Cells over and over.
    Games like the recent Blazblue Entropy Effect that doesn't follow the Dead Cells formula is far and few in between.

    It's not the game's fault indeed nor yours because this game IS tricky to work around with but that *tricky* side can be just some tinkering for five minutes now lemme tell you I am surprised and proud that you understood the main mechanic that everyone misses in their first playthrough and that is the stats count and also big congrats for clearing the tutorial level yep beating the final boss in this stage in the tutorial anyway that's for you to find about if you want to play again .
    And to enlighten you more yes there are hidden abilities that you need very much and the time doors will be much more easier to get in late game because it will be very messy later on on mid/late game and about weapons not being something in your likings you can alter the game in your way to make it more enjoyable in your way and don't worry about it because the game is meant to be played in your style and you proved that by liking to use the sandels while other players may find it underwhelming (me included) and finally you can customize your character by using outfits and heads (also there are let's to help you in combat) that's all I got to say hope I see you play it in the future I know you said you don't like roguelikes but you can make the game a roguelite if you want to anyway good vid as always and keep it up!

      1. You don’t have to stick with the color of your first weapon. You can get through first like 2 biomes using an offcolour weapon. At the begininng those 15%+ damage don’t matter that much. You can keep a rusty sword in the beginning even when you put all stats into purple and green and replace them once you find something better. Besides the weapons aren’t all that random. Pretty quickly you can unblock starting tubes which give you a choice of four sets of weapons and skills. Also you can buy stuff at the shop and simply reroll if you can’t find anything you like

    • @makaki6900
      @makaki6900 11 месяцев назад

      2. the shields. I also didn’t like them at the beginning but shields give you advantage over simple rolling. You actually deal damage when you parry and various shields have different additional effects like freeze or bleed. Btw those worms in sewers and bombadiers in stilt village. You can actually parry the bombs that will then explode dealing damage to your enemies (btw you can do that with spartan sandals as well)
