  • Comparison between 44 B.C and 2017 A.D. Hotep Cavern in the game Assassin's Creed Origins. See how much the cavern stays mostly the same after over 2000 years in the desert. In addition, see Aya's Sarcophagus and Bayek's Sarcophagus in the present day. Later in the video, see Assassin's Creed II version of Aya's Sarcophagus (in 1476) when Ezio open's Amunet's (Aya) Sarcophagus. Conclusion provides a history of events to illustrate when Aya/Amunet's body (mummy) was moved from Italy (Venice) to Egypt in order for any discrepancies in timeline to be reconciled. Gameplay walkthrough on PS4 Pro version of AC:Origins.

    Amunet's body is in Basilica di San Marco in Venice, Italy. Aya's body is east of Siwa in Egypt. So most likely her body was moved from Italy to Egypt between 1476 to 2017. Another possibility is that it was not moved from Italy and it was an actually copy (beeswax) in Italy, but that explanation is probably wrong because in Italy there were other assassins NOT from Egypt. Since only Egypt has mummy process, you can't explain why only Amulet is a copy while the rest were real bodies. So the most logical conclusion is it was moved

    Or... The body in Venice Italy was just a decoy, the whole tomb was a tribute to Aya. The Roman assassin's put it there to honor their beloved mentor when Aya went back to Egypt when she retired as a Hidden One.
    Conclusion: "Nobody moved the body (back) to egypt because it was always there and not in Venice."

      I think all the Assassins statue/tombs in AC2 were there for tribute and not their actual bodies because it wouldn't make sense for all those fallen Assassins to get placed in Italy for no reason, Darius is an assassin from 5th century BCE and that's hundreds of years before Bayek and how come his body suddenly transferred to Italy.

      edepot you are very persistent on this. Egyptians used to make a copy of people's mummies Layla extracted DNA from aya's real mummy if it was really moved I doubt they would dump it in a bit and most likely fell over millennia. Also it is mentioned that the some crypt held memorials of the assassin's most likely just empty caskets or a duppler mummy.

    The cave was special to Aya and Bayek. After Aya threw away her identity, how could anybody possibly know to move Amunet's body to a specific cave in the middle of Egypt when there's no possible way they could know? They only knew Amunet, not Aya.
    Theory: Amunet returned to Egypt as Aya and sought out Bayek and both died and were laid to rest together.

    Some people still seem confused for some reason. So for those who are:
    Egyptians would create and mummify a replica.
    Aya is Amunet and founded the Assassins in Rome.
    But she is properly buried in Siwa, whereas her replica was kept in Italy as tribute.
    I don’t believe Ubisoft “screwed up” seeing how Origins story wasn’t exactly thought up around the time of AC2 -they found a way to work with what they had created with real factual Egyptian methods.
    Hope this helps.

But if its indeed her body it was most likely moved sometime after Ezio's journey.

  • @jingle9691

    Baring in mind that Layla takes Ayas DNA from the body in Siwa it can’t possibly be a fake in Siwa. The only 2 explanations can be that the “body” in Italy isn’t Aya OR once Ezio became leader of the assassins and had visited all the tombs he had each assassins body moved back to their country of origin. Although Aya was Greek she did begin her assassin journey in Egypt.
    Personally I think it’s more likely that there was no body in Amunets tomb in Italy since as I remember it you don’t actually see her

    The body in rome was never her real one. Egyptians believed they would need their body on the afterlife so they often would do another mummy as a “spare” in case something happened with the original body. She probably went back to egypt once she retired or at least asked to be buried there with Bayek, so they could be together on the afterlife - after all they still loved eachother, just couldn’t be together because they had to fight for the bigger good.

    Most likely moved at some period. Tends to happen alot in AC.
    The sword of Eden in Unity, for example, was hidden in an underground chamber at the Parisian Temple in 1307. Sometime after that, it was taken out and buried under the Church of Sainte-Catherine at Sainte-Catherine-de-Fierbois where it was found by Jeanne d'Arc in 1429 which then she lost it during the Siege of Paris and Templar agents placed it back in the chamber.
    Things get moved around alot in AC.

It could be fake, and it makes so much more sense if it were fake because let’s just use logic: why would master Assassins all over the globe be buried in one location? There’s honestly nothing to be explained. When AC2 was made, I doubt Origins was just a thought but not yet put in motion. Yes, we know Amunet was one of the hiddens around AC2. Later when origins was created, they put aya (which we later realized was Amunet) and assumed ppl would just figure it out by the end that “ okay well it makes sense that she would want to be close to the man she loves. That body in Rome was a honor to Amunet. ” she even stated that she” killed” aya for the cause. The developers knew what they were doing lol. I just think it sucks that Bayek doesn’t get any kind of recognition for anything though. But too late.

    I strongly believe that the corpse in Italy (if it's even a corpse at all) is just a decoy that the Assassins set up at some point in tribute to her, and that her real corpse hasn't left Egypt or anything.
    • 1. The corpse in Egypt has to belong to Aya, Layla extracting a sample from it and using it to view Aya's memories in the Animus proves this.
    • 2. It was incredibly common for ancient Egyptian morticians and priests to bury couples and families like Bayek and Aya together in the same tomb or crypt, therefore it's not unusual for Bayek and Aya to be buried together like how they are in Origins.
    • 3. Messing around with corpses or belongings after a person has died was considered to be extremely taboo in ancient Egyptian society, and with Aya being a central figure in the founding of the Hidden Ones and Assassins, moving her corpse to another location outside of Egypt would have realistically been frowned upon, given her significance.
    • 4. Outside of the inclusion of various treasures and the 'corpse' wrapped in cloth in the Italy tomb, there's no other indication of Egyptian burial customs being applied to the 'corpse' in the Italy tomb or that the tomb is any different from other Assassin tombs in Italy. The Egypt tomb with Bayek and Aya's real corpses are adorned with Faiyum burial masks and sarcophagi, which were very common for people to have post-mortem during Ptolemaic Egypt.

      I mentioned that the corpse was wrapped, but all the Assassin corpses in AC2 have mummy wrapping as well even though the only one from Egypt and thus, the only one who would realistically be subjected to that funerary practice immediately after death is Aya/Amunet. Even if they're both mummified, the mummy in Egypt and the mummy in Italy are completely separate corpses, because the one in Italy doesn't have a Faiyum portrait, while the Egyptian one that we know for certain is Aya's does. It would've been painted and placed onto Aya's mummy immediately after the actual mummification process was finished, which more than certainly happened in Egypt. And all this isn't even touching on the fact it's probably unrealistic to assume that all the legendary Assassins were all laid to rest and buried in Italy instead of being buried in their own countires.

    • @edepot
      @edepot  6 лет назад

      It is hard to say, but the Faiyum portrait can be optional in Italy because the sarcophagus is different style. So perhaps the portrait was added when it was finally moved to Egypt (or maybe it was placed in Italy, but you just don't see it). Not all bodies have mummy wrapping in AC2, just Amunet (at least from first look).

    • @jamesevans6332
      @jamesevans6332 6 лет назад

      The Faiyum portraits are most definitely an Egyptian-only thing and only were used in funerary practices during the Ptolemaic period. They were sometimes painted using tempera onto wood, which was a popular medium during the Renaissance, but the actual portraits were generally put in place immediately after the actual mummification was complete, and the painting itself is done while the person in the question is alive and available for use as a live model, which obviously with Aya being dead by the time of the Renaissance, would've been impossible. Even then, even if they could've made a reproduction of a Faiyum portrait, I believe they would've just left Aya's mummy alone instead of trying to graft one on and risk disturbing her remains in line with the way ancient Egyptians treated the deceased.

    • @edepot
      @edepot  6 лет назад

      I understand your enthusiasm about this topic, but if you pay attention to the Faiyum portraits in Assassin's Creed Origins, the one for Aya/Amunet is separate from her mummy. Look in the video near that portion. It is separate from both the Sarcophagus and the mummy, so it can be moved and placed anywhere, including placed underneath or beside the body.

    Amulets 'body' in Italy is a shrine/memorial - she was a well known and active member of the brotherhood in the early beginnings. Her real body is the one in Egypt which Layla samples some DNA of the mummified body.

    Well, the body of Aya might have been moved from Alexandria to Venice (instead of the body of Saint Mark in the famous body theft during the Abbasid era by some Venetian merchants, or disguised Assassins) and with the rise of the Templars in most of the governments of the world during the early years of the twentieth century, the Assassins in Italy might have decided to return the body of Aya to Egypt, given the fact that the collapse of the nearby St. Mark's Campanile in 1902 could have been used as a cover for that covert operation by the Assassins and this also gives a justification for the race between the archaeologists from Germany and Britain in Egypt after that incident in Italy, during which some stars like Howard Carter had made significant discoveries that could have Templar hands in it

    @2yoyoyo1Unplugged 3 года назад +3

    Edepot has it wrong in a few places. Aya/Amunet’s body is in that cavern, that is irrefutable fact. It is 100% actually her body because Layla takes DNA samples from it to enter Aya’s genetic memories. The mummy inside the sarcophagus was also remarkably plain, unlike the one in Italy. The one in Italy was therefore a memorial, probably a dummy, made much later. Besides, Amunet’s whole thing was that she herself was unimportant next to the Creed itself, so my theory having played AC Valhalla is this: the Magas Codex was spread around the order (look it up, it actually explains a lot about the Brotherhood’s formative years as the Hidden Ones. Bayek and Aya intended for their names and identity as founders to be forgotten, totally buried by time. That Codex was deemed heretical by Aya herself, but she didn’t get all the copies. Now flash forward to Rennaisance Italy, the Codex is likely required reading, or at least a popular piece of history for the Assassin Brotherhood. Thus, her being an Assassin of great historical import, a shrine to her was made. Bayek didn’t get one because he was never mentioned in the Codex beyond a vague allusion, if that. So basically, Bayek did vanish from history as he and his wife intended, but Amunet couldn’t prevent her name and visage from being remembered. Sorry for the essay, I am just sick of people not getting the lore.

    Maybe after Ezio they simply moved her back after learning her location was discovered. She may of started out in Siwa then the Assassins moved her to Italy but upon Ezio finding her. They ordered her moved back to Siwa given was no longer needed there. To be with the man she married Bayek in respect to them both. For all we know after the armor was unlocked maybe after Ezio became mentor. He wanted them moved to a place where they were already at rest before Italy so they can truly rest in peace. So in following Ezios order the Assassins had her reunited with Bayek.

    • @That-Will-Do-It
      @That-Will-Do-It 6 лет назад +3

      But Bayek was forgotten in AC lore, noone in creed history hasnt shown any hint they know who Bayek or the creator of the creed is. She must have really been buried in Siwa with Bayek but wanted a sort of memorial tomb for her assassins in Rome at the time so they had a dummy body. She had to have been buried in Siwa the whole time

    • @1980Shadowwolf
      @1980Shadowwolf 6 лет назад

      There may not of been records of Bayek as a Assassin. However Egyptian records may of shown Aya was married once. That was likely her original resting place and they simply relocated her to Rome then moved her back to the original resting place. Just because Bayek was never a Assassin in records doesnt mean they would of never learned Amunet was married to Bayek.

    • @1980Shadowwolf
      @1980Shadowwolf 6 лет назад

      The original resting place of the Armor of Altair was at the Auditori villa. I think the armor was moved their by Marios great grand dad. Or whatever he was so he may of also moved the bodies to new resting places like Rome what not. With the keys to the locks as well i am thinking when he moved the bodies he likely wrote down where they were originally and Ezio simply used the notes to move them back. Given they were really no longer needed in them churches what not.

    • @1980Shadowwolf
      @1980Shadowwolf 6 лет назад

      AssassinEmbers* its the only thing that makes sense given the Armor of Altair and collecting the keys to the statues locks. I think it was Uncle Marios dad or whatevers way to show how old the Assassins really was and to pay respect to each Assassin.

    Modern day assassin's found the body of aya in italy and brought it back to bayeks tomb so both can be analyzed in one place byba single animus in my opinion, but that doesn't explain how the bodu ended in the hole, maybe an accident or they tried to blow up the tunnel to extract the body but failed and caused it to fall

    @Atteflomid 4 года назад

    If you recall, Aya asks to be buried with her hidden blade, on top of that her DNA from Egypt was taken by Layla, which means we wouldn't have an AC origins story without it. Disregarding Ubisoft making a possible continuity issue, we can probably just infer that a mold of her body was put in Italy with one of the seals you get in AC2

  • @That-Will-Do-It
    @That-Will-Do-It 6 лет назад +4

    Ayas real body is in Siwa its confirmed by Layla in game. The body in Italy clearly isnt her and it doesnt matter who it is, it could be a random person or a former Italian assassin for all we know. There is no indication AFAIK that Amunet died in Italy. She may have finished her business there as a hidden one and got into some serious complications that forced her to go back to Egypt and die there, maybe with Bayek out of respect to the good old times they had. I don't think she asked for a statue of her to be made. The other hidden ones in Italy made it as tribute and it's highly likely that the tomb in AC2 was created after receiving message from Egypt that she has died. Probably it's not it's first form and received some changes as the times pass since it was first built.

    It could just be as simple as the writers at Ubisoft messed up and accidentally missed a detail.... it happens (that's why we get day one patches for software). Now for the sake of lore - I would think that the sarcophagus in AC II is actually a *_cenotaph_* - which is a grave that doesn't contain a body, but is rather a memorial that is meant to "act" as a grave. It is actually quite common, especially when someone is lost at sea for example -- or 500 years ago when transporting the body was impractical.
