I'm going through this process now. We just switched over to this process. Going into my 7th week of training. I did it my first time I tried it.. On a 28 pup. Massachusetts.. just found this video and your page Today. Great information I'll bring this back to my instructors.
Reverse offset "code" is back up until tandems parallel to corner cone, LR(then straighten up with trailer corner at first cone)RL. hard turns each time.
Yes turn a full left. You need to learn to stop when the tractor and trailer is straight or before the left rear trailer or the right side of the tractor goes outside the alley. It’s pull up time. Getting the tractor and trailer straight into the alley.
On the new testing, it’s not a failure if you’re drive tries starts to go out of bounds. Tester stops you and you will do a pull up. Two points for the encroachment If the encroachment took you to 9 points, that would be a failure. Always know how far to back the tractor into the alley and when to pull up. Many students back the right side out of bounds. Some third party tester, don’t know all of the testing rules.
So if you get 3 of 4 tests and you fail.the last one. You make another appointment for test do you have to do the whole course over again even though you passed the 3 of 4 course. ??
From the rear cone - heading into the alley - if the trailer is 48 to 53 feet three hash marks or less 28 feet - 4 to 6 hash marks. It’s all about the angle - the tractor should be one yard ( or about ) away from the front cone. See this on the videos on having a good setup. The video on fixing a poor setup. If the student has learned how to control the movement of the trailer, that student will always be successful with this SKILL.
Hi Steve, I really enjoy watching your videos. I tested today and unfortunately did not pass. This was my first attempt and I failed on the reverse offset backing. I'm very frustrated because I am just not getting it no matter how many times I try. It would be great if there was a specific formula (1 full turn to the left, right, whatever) but I haven't been able to find one. I just keep either not turning wide enough or cut it too tight on the forward offset tracking. I aced my pre trip, brakes, and in cab so It was really disappointing to fail the offset parts of the skills test. Any advice you could give would be greatly appreciated. Again, thanks for the great informative videos.
What is the size of the trailer- 48 or 53 feet? Day cab or sleeper? When you started the reverse offset, how many points if any did you have? When you failed, did you run out of time or points. Any other reason? Will try to give you an answer tomorrow.
Will you be able to get additional practice time? Please go to the FMCSA website and get a copy of your records. Your CDL school sends information to the FMCSA- certified that you are proficient in all skills.
It was a 53 foot trailer with a sleeper. I hit a cone on the forward offset tracking which were my first points. Then on the reverse I hit more on the passenger side backing up. At that point the examiner called it and said that 8 points is the limit and that I already had 9 so he ended the exam.
I can retake the exam November 22 but it will cost $300 to be paid to the school and it will include one practice day. However during that practice session I will likely get only one chance since there are other students and the session is only 2 1/2 hours. It was a real let down because I never really had the move down on my own without instructor direction.
Smh I failed my reverse offset, I came in on a angle and instead of pulling up to get straight I went all the way out to setup like a dumbass and came back to the same problem smh. I’ll remember this for next time just in case I have the same problem
@@truckerstevecdlinstructor thanks for the information. I'm terrified of failing, especially when I think of the time, effort and money I am putting in.
Omg..Love you for this.. nobody is good at teaching in Maryland for the new test they got out... No wonder they have it where you can't make any comments they don't want to be accountable for the bad teaching so grateful for you you know your stuff and I can tell you have a passion for it
Hi Show Time, what CDL school are you training with? All students must or should voice their concerns ( complaints) to the highest levels at their schools. Thank you for your comment.
@@truckerstevecdlinstructor 160 driving academy in Maryland which leaves a lot to be desired and it's a shame that we have to do our research elsewhere when we paid all that money to go to school but when I'm talking about online I'm talking about other people that make videos for Maryland but yet they don't do a good job nor do they try to put in any effort they be all over the place still using the old skills when we're trying to learn the new Maryland skills and verbiage I know you know him cuz I've seen you around them but I just didn't want to put it out on here
I’m on my 3rd try. The school teaches you the bare minimum and then they want 100 bucks every time u wanna practice. On top of the 2000 I spent up front. 🤞🏼🤞🏼
When you was set up for your CDL Test, was you Proficient in all Skills? If not did you receive extra training before the test.? Did you attend every range class and received enough road time? Did you print out your records from the FMCSA website? Is what the CDL school submitted truthfully? Students need to learn to fight back if they are not receiving what they are paying for. I have you pass your next test and start your CDL journey.
This has really helped me learning my maneuvers. Thank you for all you do.

Hey Steve, thanks for your instructions on how to do offset backing. I am pretty sure that your video helps a lot. Keep posting such helpful videos.
excellent video. always end up straight ...use cone and hash lines.
Thank you for your video sir ! I’m struggling to do the set up .
Reverse offset "code" is back up until tandems parallel to corner cone, LR(then straighten up with trailer corner at first cone)RL. hard turns each time.
Very good 👍
Thank you so much im going to north american trade school & this is the explanation😊 i need
Glad it was helpful! Pass on my channel to as many classmates as possible. Drive NATS up the wall.
Do I do a hard left or a regular left just stare schooland I'm struggling back with my off ser

Mr. Steve where I messed up at my drive, tires went out of bounds on my right, so I’m trying to figure out how to fix myself not to go out of bounds

You will redo all range skills.
View my short videos and about 4 more videos on this test. Several short videos and about 4 longer videos.
Should the back left tire be on the 4th hashtag?

What about kentucky rules plz
Refer to your drivers manual. Offset/ parallel parking and alley dock. View my videos on off-set to the right and parallel parking.
During the maneuver, is there a timer running to complete the maneuver? Because l go slowly and carefully when I park.
Yes. You will have ten minutes per maneuver. More than enough time. Most students do this maneuver in 5 minutes or less.
