Excellent job Harry in explaining how to get rid of the "over the top" move! I have been working on what you are suggesting and it is coming along nicely! This video has given me a few more "tidbits" to work on and then it should be "all systems go!" Well Done Harry! Keep up the good work!!!

Great info, thanks. I've tended to get stuck and I have poor hip turn in the downswing meaning I don't follow thru properly.
I've struggled with the start of my backswing forever and found that if I swing back as you say, and then at the top I "feel" like I'm making a slight loop to bring my plane lower in downswing. I've found this feel seems to make my hip start turning and feel better. Is that a good move or potentially going to mess me up?

No, I like this idea of the loop, this is something I've taught in the past depending on the pupil, if you find this easier to get the club into the slot then continue with it, however, do this test in the video wether you have good or poor disassociation, because if it's poor and you do the loop and the hips turn you can only take the club so far on the inside, it'll be easier for you doing the loop and stalling the body to make this loop easier and more exaggerated. I like to use a swing plate and extension pole to get the feeling of the club going back outside the pole and looping underneath for the downswing. You can find these on golf swing systems website... 5% off enter: Shaw5 at checkout.

Just had this exact lesson with my coach. I was losing so much distance on all clubs especially driver by doing this. Was hitting everything with a glancing blow 😢

It’s not ideal at all when you find out from either a coach or yourself that you’re in this over the top / very out to in downswing move.
How are you finding it now since working on the changes in your swing?

@@harryshawgolf I’m finding the takeaway much easier as my swing thought is “thumbs to the sky” which brings the club up on plane. Downswing is going to take a while as Iv always had really bad weight shift and hung back and spun out of the shot. Will focus on sliding the arms down close to body first before turning through the shot.

Ah thats interesting because funny enough i've got a video coming out today that’s i'd recommend you watch if you suffer from anything like swaying or starting the downswing with the lower body. Feel free to keep me posted and if you ever need my help i'm here, you can follow my and send your swing on Skillest. Cheers!

I am getting better at reducing my out to in numbers with the longer clubs...but it's so much harder with my irons...
3rd year golfer, at the beggining my out to in would result in weak slices with all my clubs but now my miss is straight left because my club face is always too close at impact...with the out to in swing path....
I try to have a weak grip to help not close the face so much...
Should I try to open the face of the club more when adressing the ball?
Anyway I will watch the video again later, I will try the towel under the armpit again as you mentionned.
    Thanks

      Hi
Thanks for commenting, I wouldn't recommend manipulating/ changing anything to do with the club face, because you're causing the club face to react to the swing path being too far out to in. So keep the club face square at the address, focus on teh pint of catching the towel and definitely look over whether you have good or poor disassociation this drill changes depending on your flexibility levels as a golfer.
If there's any more questions you'd like me to ask feel free send them over on skillest or drop me and email

I have an out to in swing path but have made my way to a 11 handicap, is it worth trying to fix it now or should I not bother?

    • @harryshawgolf
      @harryshawgolf  20 часов назад +1

Depends how out to in your swing path it. If you’re finishing that the slice creeps in too often then it’s worth reducing the path number. But if you’re consistently hitting fades, then I wouldn’t look to make the change. Hope this helps!

@@harryshawgolf sweet, thanks for the help. Can control the drives with a baby fade consistently and can sometimes draw it when wanted. Just keep push fading the irons. But can control it sometimes
