    I’m an older golfer. I used the over-under swing today and shot 75. Instead of trying to get more rotation early for power I kept my right shoulder back and let my arms drop to start downswing then rotated through impact like Shaun demonstrates. Plenty of distance and very back friendly way to swing as well! The key was keeping my right shoulder from turning too early in downswing because I found even by looping over during backswing I would still come over-the-top during downswing if the right shoulder didn’t stay back to start down. It made me narrow and prevented right elbow from releasing. By keeping right shoulder back it allowed both arms to drop and got club shaft on plane. Also I could hit a fade or draw with this method!

    These drills helped me so much . I don’t have an impact bag so I started pretending the ball was the impact bag and I tried to cover the ball and “spin” it clockwise (I’m left handed) and it has done wonders for me

      It sure was, some great drills to fix a common problem. See golfers doing this every weekend who don't take the time to fix the issue.

    Took the drill to the range today - just placing an alignment rod in the ground to my left. Immediately had far better straight arm extension after impact and feeling like the clubhead was whipping through the ball. No more hold off. All shots were push-draws; zero pull draws; and clearly increased distance that I wasn't expecting. I believe that there still must be a good takeaway and proper transition with shallowing for this drill to be most effective. I gradually "moved" the stick farther to the rear while I tried to maintain the same path result.

    Great drills guys. I have such a difficult time shallowing the club and getting on the correct plane on the downswing. I don't have a strike bag, but i will definitely try the last drill with the alignment sticks. Thank you for sharing.

      Let us know how it goes👍 Also check where you are at the top. You shouldn't have to really shallow the club much at all coming down if you get in a good spot at the top.

    Great stuff. How close should the ball be to the alignment stick in drill 3?

    Great lesson! I needed this one especially the open clubface bit that you mention. I can close the face but it always seems late.

      Yeah that late closing is a tough one to do shot after shot😬

    This is nice to realise that the small rotations with the wrist actually give out the feeling of doing the opposite to break Over the Top swing. I am definitely doing this only with my 7 iron and just hot 100 balls of the tee to get the feeling right

    Any tips to help sequence the arm rotation in drill 3 would be much appreciated. I struggle with over the top and when I attempt this move I can’t seem to find correct timing with lower body movement. Thanks.

    i have been at this gamefor 50 years and with ALL the instrution I have had says to rotate and if you do that like they say you will come over the top. I have been working on this and it is getting better, but still slice my driver and once in a while pull my irons. Thank you for this help and I will have something to work on.

    Your instruction program is great! I love Golf: Back injury led me to Single Plane swing keeping me able to play. Much about execution to play the game is the same or at least very similar, however some differences are difficult to work through when seeking remedies. Do you folks offer help for the single plane player?

      We work on golf swings but haven't really found any evidence that there's a one or two plane class of golfers. I have six screws in my back so we can show you how to swing in a back safe way.

    Have you got any tips on how to maintain balance throughout the swing? I have 10 HCP but I always fall forward or on my back foot when swinging, never in balance on my front foot at finish. Any tips?

    A video I'd like to see, that might be a good compliment to this one, is 'divot reading'. Divots come in all shapes, directions, depths, etc, and it'd be good to know some of the factors that lead to the various shapes, directions, depths, etc.

    • @AthleticMotionGolf
      @AthleticMotionGolf  4 года назад

      Outside of heel or toe deep and where does it start relative to the ball, there's not a whole lot to learn from it... generally speaking. It can help to learn where the divot is on your best strikes and have that be your standard.

    I’ve been working in this area hard and am still struggling with a push slice or heel miss. Any thoughts on getting release down to turn the club head over?

      What does your clubface look like when it's up near your right shoulder coming down. If it's open there, it's too late😉

    How far behind the ball on the target line do you put the alignment stick for the over/under drill?

    • @AthleticMotionGolf
      @AthleticMotionGolf  5 лет назад

      About 3 feet. Just need it back far enough so you don't hit it with your hands.

    @athleticmotiongolf I love your stuff. But why so many seemingly contrary ideas in golf instruction in golf? I love the data driven stuff you put out. What you show is what i used to do and felt swing freedom, but fell into the latest fad swing thought. So many people teaching to swing left, hold lag, etc. can you do some videos on absolute swing truths? I had a breakthrough when i learned where shoulder line should be at impact. Not way open, but square. This changed my whole downswing and release. So much misinformation out there

    • @AthleticMotionGolf
      @AthleticMotionGolf  4 года назад

      Thanks, Sabastian! We do our best to have data-driven truths in every video. There are a lot of golfers like you who are finding benefit in seeing what actually happens in the swing (good swings).
