The execution and presentation of EWJ and EWJ2 is brilliant. Such an interesting & surreal art style and weird ideas. Reminds me of Courage The Cowardly Dog, although EWJ came out first.
I never thought about it but Jim could 100% exist in Nowhere and it would not seem out of place. Hell, Peter Puppy in the show is basicaly Courage with the ability to speak normal and hulk out when you think about it.
Yea VERY similar to courage...perhaps its where john dillworth was inspired from this game... I still cant believe this is running on a genesis...this looks like Saturn quality graphics
I remember being a kid and feeling smug with myself that I completed this game and haha, its only 50 minutes for a play-through and only 9 levels, what a strange, strange experience.
I liked the second game better than the first. The level design made it so you're more focused on the fun and was more forgiving if you screwed up. The damn underwater level from the first game was a damn headache.

hint: in Puppy Love levels use B to make Jim turn around. This makes catching puppies and items way easier if they are falling in adjacent rows. You can also make him jump far with A.
this game was a highlight of my childhood. might just have to make a romhack of this one day. what an iconic game. deserves Mario-level clout, in my opinion. it was playful, clever, creative, fun, and just kept you coming back. i could literally still tell you a lot about each of the levels and it has been over 20 years since i played this.
Watching this play through makes me remember when I was little and playing my Sega Genesis and Granddad rented this game for me to play. I only got to where Jim made it to the chair lift. Still had fun despite being bad at the game in hindsight.
Thank you for posting the whole playthrough of one of the most mesmerising games that I have played and loved. The soundtrack and the game play is just awesome even though the game itself is pointless.... there are elements that brings back so many memories .... its as if my brain just unlocked after hearing these sounds. Incredible! And especially during the Covid-19 times.... these small aspects of life means ridiculously important! Thank you yet again for making me smile!!!!!! Respect !!!!! I think that's the reason why I eventually finished this game, because it was so forgiving. Nowadays games have a lot more instagib elements in them.

As a kid, I rented this and got to the See Jim Run level. I had no idea how to get past those barriers that come down. I was stuck and thought I was soft locked, though I didn't know that's what it was called at the time. I kept trying to whip it open to no avail. I thought I was too slow to get by them. After all this time, I learn that all I had to do was shoot them.....🤦♂️
I lived with my friends uncle as a kid and he always had a black book of movie titles that he would tell you the whole story of if you asked him. We played this game to death, fuck how'd I get so old.
I agree that Earthworm Jim 1 was better, though some of the humour in Earthworm Jim 2 (like the "Villi People"/blind cave salamander level and the ending itself, were phenomenal). I personally enjoed the "Puppy Love: levels as a mechanic/ comedic story, but I agree with you thar there were far too many of them. On a side note, sorry for nitpicking but the first game is technically not a prequel. Yes it's story takes place before Earthworm 2, but for a work to be considered a prequel it must be a literary, dramatic, or filmic work whose story precedes that of a work made previously (like the infamous Star Wars prequels as example, their story takes place before the original trilogy, but the key point is that they came out after the original trilogy), since the Earthworm Jim (1994) game the was very first entry made in its franchise it can't be qualified as a prequel. Basically Earthworm Jim 2 is Earthworm Jim (1994)'s sequel, but that doesn't make Earthworm Jim (1994) Earthworm Jim 2's prequel, that's not how the word works.

I think you have to make your own opinion. There are little differences which some people like and other people hate. I think that the Genesis version had a better soundtrack, but the SNES had better backgrounds

this game was cool. i remember flyin king being the hardest stage for me. once i beat that stage i didn't really stress for the rest of the game.
