yeah,its only about goh catching stuff and the worst part is that they're doing this in a season where ash has an amazing team(they are really nailing his teams since xy),but they barely get focus,the gallade ep proves it,as ash's rank increased off-screen and dracovish just never appeared again
Ash had 20+ years to develop and catch as much Pokemon and get a legendary but nope lets just make a beginner catch a legendary and not a Champion with 20+ years of experience.

The biggest problem with Journey’s is that it doesn’t feel like a actual Journey series! When I heard that Ash was going to travel around the world I was exited, but then they said that Ash is going to staying with the Professor in this series was just makes it less interesting. It was kinda okay in Sun and Moon, but here it feels like that the writers are just wasting the series. I was expecting Ash to travel to his goal to be a Pokémon Master, but he’s being a fellow Researcher which is not Ash’s goal! It feels like that Ash and Goa aren’t going anywhere lately and that a problem. Also the story feels like it’s not going any where! The writers need to get it together or this series is go to be remembered badly. Also with Goa okay development and easy catching is making it hard to watch sometimes.The Series is not all ba, there are some good moments and development. If you like how the Pokémon Anime going that fine.We’ll just have to wait and see if things improve.
For a series called Journeys there really is no journey
I know the Journey series needs to be a Journey, not what it is now! There’s still room for improvements, but the writers better get it together!
This is especially disappointing when the current intro shows Ash, Goh and Koharu going on a journey with Leon in his Charizard car but that hasn't happened atleast not yet anyway

In DP and AG series, Gary was also a resercher but he was traveling and battling. However he was still doing some form of research. I dont have a problem with ash and gou being research fellows, cuz Sakuragi in return gives them free plane tickets, accommodation, food, and money while ash and gou go on adventures to give him some research materials. The problem is that they never do this. it feels like ash and gou are freeloading and not really holding their end of the bargain. In most episodes they chill or travel for their own amusement and goals, so then why does Sakuragi even support them when they dont supply him with anything. The best episode where they feel like research fellows was the Bulbasaur and dragonite island episode, but ever since then ash and gou only follow their goals. Them following their goals is fine, but what does Sakuragi gain from any of this. Would be cool to see more episodes of them doing missons for sakuragi, but we always get episodes of ash and gou doing random and pointless stuff in kanto and never leaving Vermillion.

Whats worse is how it was a big selling point and they don't really deliver on it. It's just slice of life in Vermillion City.

And the Alola one was disappointing.
And even when they do it’s usually something that could be done in Kanto. The sandstorm episode is set in Mauville City, but it’s not brought up in dialogue nor does the city look like Mauville or even appear geographically to be Mauville. Another Hoenn set episode is a kids water type competition in Slateport, but it could be generic city #5 for how it’s represented. The anime can use recognisable locations, characters or unadapted videogame subquests as episode storylines, but it doesn’t.
I agree with you. The writers made Ash capture Dragonite and Gengar, and gave them one battle each to show how strong they are purely so they don’t have to develop them and can leave more screentime for Goh. They rushed Riolu’s development into a Lucario, and he has been sidelined since - once again, showing that from the writer’s perspective, Lucario’s development is now done. By the looks of it, Farfetch’d will evolve in episode 60, making Farfetch’d’s development complete from the writers. Dracovish will have one battle to shine, and do really well and win, showing how strong it is - that way no need to develop Dracovish. The writer’s clearly want to focus on Goh, abd have gotten very lazy in the writing with Ash. 80% of the episodes so far have been Goh Focussed.
To cut a long story short, they’re rushing Ash’s development, and being lazy with him and his pokemon, purely to focus on Goh.

it's really sad seeing the absolutely massive drop-off in Pokemon Journeys from when it started. In the beginning, even after terrible episodes like the Johto Bell Tower episode, it was amazing. Almost every episode seemed hype to watch. But nowadays...... I didn't watch an episode since the Wikstrum one. I think there were 2 drop-offs. First after the Korrina battle, continuity began to disappear right after that and so did Ash's battles. I don't think we saw another Ash battle till Ash vs Bea.
Secondly, after the Alola visit. Continuity was quite literally non-existent after that episode and I don't count the Mewtwo episode as "continuity". The amount of filler also began to increase, from the Marshtomp episode and the Diglett episode. Before this, I think Journeys only had 3 real fillers in 37 episodes.
I really hope that they do SOMETHING to pull Journeys back and I really wish either May or Serena (or even Lillie) come back to help Chloe develop a goal or something. The chances of this series improving (and possibly being the last) has increased with the confirmation of gen 8 lasting till 2023 so I have high hopes for the distant future. But until they do something really game-breaking, I think I have lost interest in Journeys.

Goh is the issue. They have to give him all the episodes, while Ash, his Pokémon, and Chloe have to suffer, which is a shame as At least most of Ash’s episodes are among the best in the series. Ash vs bisquez, Riolu, etc
@@jonathanfarah8612 The question though is what is Pokemon Anime identity? Is it a show about capturing Pokemon to compete or just capturing to make friends with supernatural creatures?
Ash is what I think of as the competition based Pokemon identity, you capture to compete and grow stronger through it. Goh on the other hand is capturing to make friends out of a psychological need, probably deeply seeded based on what we saw in the Celebi episode. Ash's goals are linear, Goh's goals are episodic. They'd do well in independent series separate from one another.

Goh's goal is fine, but it's doesn't make sense in anime world. A good story needs enough deep descriptions about protagonist's development. However, the writers don't spend enough episodes to describe Goh's development because of Goh's goal. That's why many audiences don't think that Goh have enough ability to catch so many pokemons, especially some precious pokemons.
I don't have a problem with it being set in kanto but I think the series needs to have miniarcs for each region rather than a single episode

Exactly, in my opinion the grookey incident could have been turned into a mini arc if fleshed out right but then they decided to butcher the episode poorly instead of letting it develop.

It would be nice they brought back some of Ash's old Pokémon... from Kanto to Kalos. We saw all of Ash's Alola Pokemon. PLUS WHY COULDN'T THEY HAVE STARTED THE SERIES IN GALAR. Also, am I the only one who thinks Sword and Shield arc was rushed? They could have done it once Ash has reached the Ultra/Master ranks in WCS.

There are parts of journeys where it is so good but then then the rest is either awful or average

If they're going to bring back past characters, at least what the writers can do is treat them with respect, and spend more time with them instead of one episode (the Korrina episode being the first victim and the Alola episode the second)! If they want continuity, just go through with it instead of wimping out with vague signs of them calling back to it, looking at you Mewtwo episode! Otherwise, don't do it at all! If the writers want to feature all regions, make it interesting and have the appropriate past characters return if you want! It's too late to change what happened in the Darkest Day arc since it has so many issues, but I feel that you get those problems already and what that means for future arcs. In the first season Ash just uses Pikachu and Lucario all the time, but now is mostly just Pikachu. What about his other recent Pokemon: Dragonite, Gengar, Galar Farfetch'd, and Dracofish? Geez, I like Pikachu, but this is too much. Hell, I want to see the evolved starters of the past get treated with more respect than their pre-evolutions (I like all the evolved starters for many different reasons if you're asking). I mean we got Blaziken, which is a nice treat for me and I'm fine with how they handled him. If it's all regions that the show wants, then show ALL of the starters and their evolutions with the respect they deserve or gain some popularity for once. For battles, have the Trainers use more than one or two Pokemon. This is an issue I have with the Alola League and it CONTINUES here! Goh is the main problem in the series he needs to question and doubt his goal and his methods of reaching it, stop him from being a Gary Stu, and a marketing tool. Talking about him just gives me a headache, Koharu, too, with her being sidelined for the most part. I wish I could go on, but my growing resentment towards this series has clouded my mind a bit, not letting me think straight.

It honestly makes me happy im not the only one butt hurt about this series at least I'm actually sane. I've been watching since season 1 and people are trying to defend this dumpster firing lmao. It clearly has problems on a character development point of view. Even goh's character focused episodes feel forced and tiring to watch. The early development episodes when he was recalling his past. Personally I liked that, pikachu's past I liked that. I came into the anime thinking they would flesh out the characters cause of that and now I'm disappointed beyond belief, I was even critical about location evolving so early like that it undermined the development if his character greatly if there was even time for development 😔.

The writers don't even know what they want to do with the story, characters. Also one of my problems is Goh just throws a pokeball and catches it. Like not even a battle? So my question for the writers is, Ash tried to catch a lot of pokemons in the past by just throwing a pokeball. But those pokemons broke free. So why did Ash not get those pokemons? Goh just throws a pokeball at a legendary but catches it

they could have done both. ash doing his normal region run in this case galar, and in the mean time also doing the championship battles in between the gym battles.
I agree with pretty much all your points. Before this series began I though it had (perhaps) still has the potential to be the best series of pokemon but it’s on track to waste its potential. My biggest issues are the lack of PWC battles(its f**king pokemon lol) being replaced by pointless fillers(such as the marshtomp episode) Also the continuity so far has been underwhelming. They should bring back characters we haven’t seen in years such as May and Dawn. If this is Ash’s final series it would an awful way to end it. Great video as always though!

Already Ash's character turned as a travelling companion like Brock, Clemon etc., Don't expect any powerful catches, ash centered episodes, PWC battles. You can expect useless fillers, goh's legendary catches and offline PWC battles including final battles (ash vs leon offline result) 😂😂

The thing i like the most is the Ranking system, gym battles were really stagnant and boring at this point.
But my biggest critique is the episodic format. Hate it.LOATHE IT. When you have a great battle in the story, only to be followed by 2-3 dumb filler episodes. Ruins the rythm and continuity. SPECIALLY in part 4.

Unpopular opinion : Outside of Games, Legendaries should just be uncatchable. Some of those creatures are almost Gods. Imagine what a human can do with such abilities. The idea of Legendaries being caught and kept inside a pokeball (a regular one too, the 100 pokedollar damn pokeball) is to me an insult to the title of being "Legendary". In games, that is fine, masterballs to capture legnedaries, but outside of games it's just absurd. Imagine you were the leader of an evil organization that was trying to capture a legendary pokemon using cutting-edge futuristic technologies and has spent a great amount of money and time developing such means, and then some 10-year old kid just managed to catch one with a regular pokeball....not even an ultra,GS, or master ball.
"Befriending" a legendary, now that is legit and a much better and acceptable feature than outright being able to be caught by just any trainer with a spare pokeball (and without even fighting, smh).

I think that a big problem of the series is the double protagonist aproach especially when the second protagonist catches more pokemon in the first couple episode the ash did in 20 years.
And most of those pokemon that he catches we will probably never hear from again. Another big problem is that goh is just pokemon go as a protagonist which does not work for the series. We already have a problem with ash's older pokemon that we will probably never see again and now with goh we have even more of that.
And then there is the problem with the traveling through the regions like it took ash 20 episodes to get from new bark town to violet city and in journeys they say
"lets go to johto to violet city" and all of a sudden they just appear there so the regions feel really small.
The fansevice we have is great i.m.o but small cameo thing like in one of the first episodes where they teach goh what the pokedex does ash is looking at his pokedex it would be cool to see his dex and seeing all the pokemon he has registerd from older series it would'nt be dragged out just a little cameo.
I dont like where this series is heading. Imo, the show had an identity before the Korinna battle. Everything after has been bad, scattered or mediocre, excluding farfetched and sobble episodes. Pokemon captures dont hit as hard as the beginning of the series, and ashs pokemon dont feel like a team. We hardly see them interact outside and its become soooooo obvious. Having farfetched and Riolu have a training arc is fine, but what happens after that? We never see lucario after its arc was complete, so after farfetched evolves do we then see gengar, dracovish or dragontie?. A pokemon having an arc is fine, but excluding other mons in the prosess is problematic. We still dont khow anything about Sakuragi and his assistants. And aren't gou and ash researchers? Why are they just freeloading in the lab? What purpose do they have in sakuragis lab? Why does Sakuragi need them? What is Sakuragis goal with his research? More deph with the assistants as well. We only see them in the first 2 minutes of the show telling ash and gou where to go and thats it. Sakuragi compared to Kukui is night and day, Kukui had backstory, character arc, dream of a league, father figure to ash and Guzma is a rival.
Journeys is straange, like when ash isnt battling ( In most episodes) why is he not traveling and gatherings research materials for Sakuragi? I liked the idea of ash and gou being researchers, but they hardly do any research, and just go on pointless trips either for gou to catch a pokemon, or for ash to battle. Nothing is tieing in to each other, and nothing makes sense especially what ash and gou are even doing with Sakuragi. They could easily be freinds who go on adventure rather then researchers. Also,
what purpose do team rocket even serve at this point other then being thrown into episodes with zero effort. Worst example of this by faaar was the episode at the dugtrio farm. After their awesome growth in sun and moon, this just is not cutting it. The episode there team rocket help ash and gou free the pokemon from team rocket members coulda served as a jump-off point for them. This couldve built team rocket to have an objection in the series where they feel guilt being in team rocket, and them slowly cutting ties with them by sabotaging their missions on purpose. Imagine jessie and james slowly scheaming to either reform or take down the current team rocket as a ongoing arc in the series. Ash and gou can even help them out to take down Giovanni after they find out jessie and james are slowly becoming good. This would also connect their development in SM with them hating leaving their family in alola in exchange for work and gatcha machine. anyone else feel me?
This show is all about Ash doing errands with Goh for his personal collections of capturing every Pokemon he saw and not focusing on the most important story in this show which is the world championship tournament.
Main problem: Too much filler and focus on Goh. Seriously, why are we focusing on this kid. All he wants to do is collect pokemon like comics or funkos, why would anyone find that interesting?
Spittin Facts. Goh dream and character does not align with what Ash has been doing for past 7 regions. It even ruins Ash's efforts and makes him look weak.
You want a show with at least 10-15 filler episodes? Then watch Ninjago.

I definitely would've loved for the Galar setting and seeing new Galar characters like Marnie, Bede and Hop. Would've also liked to have seen an Allister cameo or appearance since Bea is the one taking on the PWC too.
That said, there's problems with the series, sure, as there are for all the series, but I'm still enjoying JN for what it is, but it's still fun hearing other people make their suggestions to make (any) series better, including this one.

tbh team rocket is the only consistent good part of this show
Honestly I skip forward to their parts most of the time. I find Goh incredibly annoying and whiney and Ash is almost always with him so their segments arent as fun to watch.
I’m gonna be honest here Pokémon have always being episodic but this series is more episodic on a bigger scale because they are going around the world instead of moving in an specific region as you stated.
Pokemon hasn’t always been episodic though, there’s always been a larger narrative

While yes every season has the subtext of ‘we are traveling around to get goals A B & C done’ they also had a high jinx of the week thing that gave life the the regions and routes. The traveling had an episodic nature to brake up the boss fights while making progress to the next boss fight of the overall arc
My problem with the series can be traced back to 1 person. Goh. He gets all the spotlight, and special treatment. It is not equally distributed among Ash, Goh, and Chloe, It’s like Goh gets a full course meal, and Ash and Chloe get some French fries, maybe Ash gets a couple chicken Nuggets. This uneven distribution causes Ash’s Pokémon, specifically the ones that are not pikachu to suffer. Also while Goh’s goal sounds promising on paper, the way this is executed is super rushed getting his first legendary 39 episodes in, and another one 47 episodes later. His goal is also technically impossible(how could he get yveltal,dial Gaga,etc) also so much of this series takes place in Kanto, and yeah, that Alola episode should have been 2 episodes(Goh didn’t even care that there was a freaking melmetal in his sight). Lastly those 2 parter episodes while good on paper, being wacky,fun to make, and breaks before big episodes are appealing. Episode 41 was the biggest offender( the fact that meowth literally had COVID-19 says it all) Hopefully this series gets better like Alola, but I’m not confident. Also English dub music is sh-

@@AyaanicBond He was VERY cool in the first maybe 32 episodes, but he got bad quickly after that with a rushed development. He sucked in battles, then he became a god without any onscreen training,. Also again a full 5 star 3 course meal compared to Ash and Chloe's bare minimum happy meal. This is a shame because Ash has some really good episodes, maybe some of the best in the series. Some Goh's episodes at some points either got boring(52, even though it incorporate Chloe development) or rushed(37 should have been 2 parts. 1 for Ash and 1 for Goh, and 53 just came out too early) Goh is still fine and cool in some episodes like 38 and 45, but not as hyped as in beginning. I think If the creators just spread the spotlight A LOT MORE, using pokemon that aren't cinderace and sobble more often, and just not making so many dull catches, then I think so many people's opinion would change. Alas at least to me he's cool, but probably more hated than Iris and is probably the sole reason Journey's is so decisive.
My problem with Journeys is Goh and Koharu centric episodes make me feel like I'm watching filler episodes because they don't have proper goals so this makes Journeys a filler dump for me. I'm currently waiting for new episode titles to decide if I'll continue to watch Journeys :(

@@AyaanicBond This is a tough decision for me because watching this anime has been a hobby for me for almost two decades. The younger generation makes fun of negative criticism (I'm talking about real criticism not some childish whining) but if the anime goes like that it will lose some of its older fans like me.
yeah I agree. I'm still watching them, but just for the world championship battles. the fillers are trash, half of the anime are legit fillers.
Pretty much sums up every issue I have with Journeys. Its gotten to the point where I'm starting to hate this series more than Best Wishes. I think what's truly frustrating is I had such high hopes for a Sword and Shield series. Most expected a Galar focused series, and given how much more competitive the Galar region is when it comes to their gym challenge, many were expecting a more shonen-like battle heavy series like XY. I was very hopeful, but instead we get this lackluster mess.
Imo The show can easily Balance ash and gou being part time researchers while aiming for their goals. Ash was a school student in Alola, but he was also taking the island Trails and going on adventurers. The episodes where ash and gou straight up chill or do pointless things in Kanto, could easily be research based episodes like Bulbasour and Dragonite Island episodes. Sakuragi needs some incentive to give ash and gou free plane rides and a place to stay. Feels like the writers scrapt the idea of them being Research fellows to fill a lame excuse for them to be trapped in Vermilion.
My real problems with the Pokemon Journeys is. We are still stuck with that Ash stupid curse as a 10 year old. Ash's used Pikachu way too much in the whole title series. And as for Team Rocket. They should have left the Pokemon Series a long time ago. This Pokemon Series need to be fixed right away.

Obviously pokemon journeys is just a fan service series and that's all. It doesn't show anything like bonding with pokemon, pretty low continuity and obviously how poorly they are handling ash. Like at first i always used to get hyped about old characters returning like korrina. But now it's like ohh yeah they will return for only one episode for just fan service and never will get mentioned again.

I like Journeys but yeah, I agree with pretty much everything said in this video. Especially the fact that like half of the series takes place in Kanto. If u remove the darkest day arc and ash catching Pokemon episodes most r filler episodes. Also the filler of this series is extremely boring considering it is only goh and ash. Sun and moon also had boring had episodes but at least seeeing the whole group interact and even seeing lulu I burnet etc was fun. Also remind you we are at episode 60 I don’t know how many days it has gone since the new series intro but literally only 2 or 3 episodes are good out of , the rest were just garbage goh episodes. The only reason fans still r watching is becoz of iris and Gary. Though sirfectehd has evolved now so I think some fans will come now

Sun and moon in question of storyline and Storytelling is the best aside from Kanto and the two movies about Mewtwo. The fans that dislike Sun and moon didn't Watch it at all and are incapable to feel attach to Storytelling of any kind if it isn't evolving action, fights or battles.

My main problem is the inconsistent development. Ash loses to Bea and the next episode he is happy and helping Goh catch a Pikachu. There are many instances like this in the series. I really hope all of these are solved eventually.

I still wish there was an anime where it follows the actual main characters for each game, like red or gold for example. I know origins exist but I would love to see something like Pokemon Adventures get an anime. Especially because it kinda follows the main story for each game but adds different twists. (Like an evil elite four)
The worst thing is that the series is set in Kanto, but they decided to make a new professor for Ash to Stay and work with.
Ash literally lives 2 towns away from his other pokemon, and we are yet to see them

New idea: when generation 9 is released instead of following ash’s journey through it the new protagonist would be the male character from the new games, and being tagged along with the female character as well as they explore and train, and battle in the new region where they both catch Pokémon and actually use them in battle. But a twist would be that this series would be more towards older fans, so a kind of darker or more serious story line, a better art style then we have now and etc. it’s just a thought but I would love to see it come into play.
I don't understand the reason of making Ash the Champion of Alola, give him a bunch of iconic and powerful Pokemon in Galar that we never see them fighting in battle. His Gengar and Dragonite have seem to be forgotten for lots of episodes. The series started out strong but after Goh caught Suicune I realized that the writers are slowly writting off Ash Ketchum from the series...

My biggest problem is that they're making episodes focused on random crap that doesn't contribute to the story instead of stuff that will actually matter. Take the darkest day arc for example. They could have spent time giving it the build-up that it deserved, but instead, they made it come out of nowhere and replaced those possible episodes with boring filler and non-important episodes.

The literal premise of the anime can be boiled down to nostolgia bait, for a mini series journeys might actually be enjoyable, but since it’s the main anime Galar and its new things undeniably suffer from lack of exposure.
The problem is that Goh caught so many Pokemon in the series, which is good that Goh caught more Pokemon than Ash but he should try to trainer some of them to evolved like his : Pidgey, Spearow, Taillow, Fletchling, Scatterbug, Nidoran♂, Nidoran♀, Oddish, Poliwag, Ekans, Grimer, Tentacool, Sentret, Mantyke, Misdreavus, Sandile, Cubone, Rattata, Magikarp (Big one), Goldeen, Binacle, Phantump, Wingull, Pineco, Chinchou, Bunnelby, Mankey, Krabby, Boldore, Geodude, Drowzee, Diglett, Morelull, Sobble and Grookey in order to fill his Pokedex.
Also trade some pointless Pokemon like his: Caterpie, Metapod, Weedle, Kakuna, Paras, Venonat, Magikarp (Small one), Trapinch and Vibrava because Goh already got their evolved Pokemon and it's not like Goh will every used them in battle.

The main problem I have with main Anime in general (And why I stopped watching it after XYZ) was because I had my expectations way too high.
The vibes of the shows are just off to me. Idk if it's because of the style change or not, but it just seemed like a step back in the show. I also really got my hopes up for the Kalos episode thinking we may get to see Serena, and maybe she'll even come back for a while. But nope- 💀
Idk if it's just me or not, but I always expected some of Ash's old friends or Pokémon to come back like in Sinnoh and Unova. In Sinnoh, May came back and was a really fun cameo to see! In Unova, Dawn and Ash's Charizard came back.
It would be cool to see some of his Pokémon, or even just some of his old pals back in the show. Characters like Serena, Iris, Cilan, Greninja, Pidgeot, Butterfree, etc.
It just feels like they threw away so many characters that could've made future episodes/series so much better.

I agree that all of these issues are real, and I hate that I do because Journeys is my favorite series. For me, the good outweighs the bad, it’s a matter of preference and what matters most to me in a series. However, that doesn’t erase the issues.
I believe that things can improve, I mean we have around 2 years to go which is a lot of time to fix the apparent problems. I believe that Farfetch’d getting development could mean that afterwards, Ash’s pokémon will have the chance to get equal spotlight. Although the episodic nature will probably stay, and it can be a problem, once the series is more fleshed out, it will hopefully be easier to understand the direction of the plot. And since there is so much time for Ash and Goh to travel to so many more places and meet so many more legendaries, I don’t think them living in Kanto will be a problem for too much longer. I really want to see Ash and Goh travel to caves and snowy places.
My biggest issues are Team Rocket, and Ash and Goh’s goals. I’m really hoping that TR will catch Morpeko and that perhaps Pelipper will help out more too. I dont know if the Gacha Machine will ever stop being in use, but I’m praying 😭🙏
I absolutely love the concept of Ash and Goh’s goals and it has the potential to be handled better. I mean, at some point the pokémon won’t be able to fit in the park and they’ll have to do something about it. It’s basically impossible for all of Goh’s pokémon to get development but I think having more episodes like JN023 that focus on all of the pokémon would be a really good idea, and perhaps a character arc for Goh that focuses on the direction of his goal and if he’s gonna keep going the way he is.
I’m very worried about Ash though. I’m not saying I want Journeys to just be battle-battle-battle (I personally wouldn’t enjoy that) but I much rather see Ash’s offscreen wins and losses than see him rank up by hundreds without any development. I cherish episode 36 because that was crucial development for Ash but I don’t like how we didn’t get to see him build himself back up. I understand that Goh helped him realize his mistakes and inspired him to break through that wall in his head, and Ash does have the skills to easily pick himself back up but shouldn’t we see more of him doing so? It’s the curse of offscreen land. We do get more Ash focused episodes than we think and there are so many opportunities to improve the handling of the PWC, yet it’s still an issue.
Again, we have about 2 years or a bit less to go so I genuinely believe that there is so much potential for these problems to be fixed. And, I know that Journeys will have an amazing ending, I just know it. I just appreciate Journeys for what it is, not what it isn’t. :)

One of my gripes with the show is how backwards it goes for Ash’s character. For example P3 Episode 12 is a perfect example of setting Ash back. The catching Pokémon he could have done in the past isn’t that big to me, since it could be argued, but how absolutely dumb Ash is when he goes on a losing streak is pretty pathetic for someone built up so much. He literally faced many way more significant loses, yet he wasn’t as sad yet not as important fights gets him to be scared of fighting up close to win. I just hate how they put a lesson of never give up, with a character that is shown to never give up or back down, infact Ash was cheering up Goh and telling him the wonders of battling yet this episode singlehandedly brought down the whole character of the old Ash and partly of the new Ash they bring up too, atleast in my opinion. Honestly I think they should’ve made either Ash go on a losing streak, then feel like he needs to train harder and Goh had to drag him onto this trip then the rest plays out but Ash is just stuck thinking how he isn’t ready or prepared to do this. Or after those losses have Ash be hesitant to use Riolu, and then Goh convinces and help Ash be more confident to use Riolu so it would 1. Atleast keep the character somewhat consistent and 2. Show that Ash cares for his Pokémon like every other variation without breaking down what was built up. Even though I went on a rant, I still like this, a bit more than sun and moon atleast, but I just don’t like how they portray Ash as it seems like a more mature version of the sun and moon version which seems a bit...annoying you know.

Ill just say it feels like the series lost some direction, like it rushed to do the Sw/Sh plot, but had nothing to follow it up. They barely travel except to filler locations in regions and there is hardly in continuity after the first season, and that was early on
You know in today’s episode Goh got Grookey by actually stealing it from Team Rocket’s gacha machine, leaving Ash with absolutely no Galar starters?
Being an Ash fanboy I’ve never felt more like that Pokémon Journeys is actively TRYING to drive away the veteran viewers of this anime. It feels like whoever developed Journeys’ structure really, REALLY hates Ash and Pikachu and wants to destroy them however they can. After our Pallet hero FINALLY won a Pokémon League after 20+ years, it’s feels definitely wrong to go this direction and make him achieving his goal to be the very best look like a mistake on every single front. Ash Ketchum deserves better than this. I don’t care if he’s just a fictional character in a kids show where the target audience doesn’t care about continuity; that does not excuse this kind of lackluster writing.

Goh's goal to catch every pokemon works in the games but will never work in the anime for me. Whenever I see him catching a pokemon my mind just goes to the fact that he will never use them in his journey. He is taking those mons away from their native home,away from their herd/ family and literally keeping them in a zoo of sorts. And for what? For some extra data? Atleast release them or something. Other people catching mons get a pass because they bond with them and use them for battle. He is just catching them for the heck of it. This is further worsened by the fact that unlike in the games these mons Express emotions and feelings.
I sorta wished team rocket used their Pokémon from their hq I wanna see them return instead of the random rocket Pokémon
World Coronation Series also leaves a few problems simply by it's existence.
Why would Ash even aim for Champion. His Goal is to be the best. why wouldn't his goal to go for the World Coronation Series as soon as he could?
If his goal is to go for the best in the world there is no where to explore next.
It limits the world. With a worldwide championship you would have various regions included which would cause a continuity problem if you had a new anime. Oh this new region just exists now. Before it could simply be explained that Ash didn't even know the region existed till someone else tells him. That's not possible now.
Other problems outside of this is:
Why doesn't Ash visit his friends more when traveling to regions. You think he would miss the ones he traveled and grew with more than the friends he just messed around with on his most recent Journey.

Its been a while since I have really enjoyed a Pokemon season! I love how Goh changes between Pokemon because it feels like the video games! You keep catching and adding to your Pc and swap them out for different battles. I love that they wrote it that way. Same with team Rocket. When you watch enough Pokemon all the newer seasons just start feeling the same. Journeys feels like a breath of fresh air and its a lot of fun!
Same. The only problems i agree with the vid are Ash'es pokemon not getting the spotlight, continuity, and team rocket. I actually like the episodic format since it doesn't put to much pressure on ash losing another champion title and is a refreshing from the liner story they always do. I stopped watching during black and white era and only saw the first few episodes of x and y era so i don't know if ash won the championship title in the future generations. I personally got tired of the liner stories since it leads up to nothing. I just think people are upset about journeys because they treat journeys like a liner story and not a episodic series since they are too used to the liner story writing.

I think what might have been better is that they have each “part” of the series to a region
Part 1: kanto
Part 2: johto
Part 3: hoenn
Part 4: sinnoh
Part: 5: unova
Part 6: kalos
Part 7: alola
Part 8: galar
In each region goh and ash travel around catching Pokémon, fighting trainers and bonding with each other and there Pokémon. I’d love it if along the way ash came across each old companion who have made progress in their goals.
Final part of the series is ash fighting the champions of each region working his way to Leon for the final fight.
I think they're building this series for newer audiences and give us a new banger in next series. Just like BW and XY.

I haven’t watched the show, but I think the main thing is that this is an adaptation of Go, Let’s Go and Masters, not Sword and Shield. Hopefully this means that Galar will have its day in the sun.

On an unrelated note I'm thinking about that AU where Ash and Koharu travel together instead and it honestly sounds more interesting than the actual show.
Basically Koharu gets to travel to maybe change her perspective on Pokémon. Ash does gym battles on the side and takes her to visit old friends to have them give the non-battle perspective as well. Gou is more a side character though but no legendary catches, maybe sightings here and there.
****Possible spoilers**** I honestly really love the series, but one of my problems are the fact that I wanted it to focus a bit more on Galar. I love the concept of the show because it brings back possibilities of past protagonists to come back for it a bit (like when he visited Alola - sorry if I spell any of these wrong) but I feel like there should be more Galar. Like, they already caught Eternatus for crying out loud, and with a Pokeball. Heck they even fought Mewtwo. I feel like it may be going by a bit too fast.
Going too slow will be much worse, I won't be Waiting for a capture or something to last 3 MONTHS TO OCCURE.
@@psykos233 They shouldn't go too slow, but they need to be going slower than they currently are. Ash's Lucario and Farfetch'd are both pretty much done with their arcs. Ash is already near the ultra ball rank. They're skipping Ash's battles just to make him progress faster. Goh already has caught like 10% of ALL current Pokemon and we're only 1 season in. The darkest day arc is already over. They've put themselves in a predicament where the main storyline of SwSh is already over, which means thinking of Galar episodes that are actually engaging and non-filler will be incredibly difficult.
@@Wheeler07 My man, for them to do this is because they want to do a lot of things in this One Season. So they can't waste time and Go slow for some minor things. Some fights that they off screen are not that incredible, Go Captures at least is shown even if it is really quick, at least it is not like Gary or Red who capture more than 10℅ off screen.
@@psykos233 It's hard to be invested in Ash's goal when we rarely see his battles on-screen. Even if the battles are not as amazingly-animated or as story-driven as rival battles, they are still fun to watch. The battle with the Meganium kid in episode 20 was really fun to watch even though it was a random trainer that we have never seen and will never see again. The same thing goes for the Gurdurr trainer in the Farfetchd episode. Goh capturing Pokemon on-screen does not excuse the fact that he's already caught 10% of them. If Ash's goal was gaugeable through a percentage, he definitely would not have been 10% of the way to his goal of becoming a Pokemon master by the end of season 1.

I prefer a quick capture and some fights for capture, than all captures being off screen and no development or effort in showing that at all like Gary and Red.

Mmm.... not sure about the "Goh's Goal" section. i mean there are a good few Pokemon he has caught that have some interesting quirks or just fun to watch like how his Farfetch'd is a friendly rival to Ash's or his Golurk, while being a hulking towering golem can be as gentle as a caterpie since we saw it help with the fossils before. not to mention his Scyther that evolves later one. grant it, not ALL of his Pokemon are gonna get development since his goal is to catch all the known Pokemon leading up to Mew and that number is already in the 79 and giving each one a significant role, personality and development is asking a lot. besides, the fact we get a good use out of them every now and again shows Goh is getting better as a trainer. that's development on its own.
also, if your asking to see every match Ash wins at to be on-screen that also feels unnecessary. i mean, come on, not every fight is gonna be on par with Bea or the soon to be fight with Leon. your asking to much including adding Character development, which i say does happen now and again with the series.
I have a bad feeling after the most recent episode, we’ll get a Smash Bros Pokemon Trainer, either Grookey is gonna evolve or Sobble is, and we’ll have a fully evolved, middle stage, and first stage for Goh’s starters
Probably, but maybe they’ll do what they did with Ash in the OS. One fully evolved fire starter and a first stage grass and water starter.
The only problem I really have is that catching pokemon is so much easier for Goh than it ever was in any other series.

Good video. As a casual viewer of the anime (before Journeys) there are some points you made that I agree and disagree with.
IMO the episodic nature of this series is actually one of its biggest strengths, especially for the audience the anime is aimed towards. Most people who watch the anime are casual viewers or kids, who may miss an episode here and there or start watching the series from the midway point. The episodic nature of the series makes it really easy to get into the series since everything is clearly laid out for the audience. Having a more loose progression structure also makes filler less of an issue, since every episode contributes to either ashs goal of battling or Goh's goal of catching more pokemon.
That being said, I do agree with your point that the fanservice is a bit shallow, and this is directly tied to how the show is more episodic. I never watched the XY anime, so I thought Korrina's episode was really good because she was presented as a really strong obstacle for Ash and pressured him early on in the battle. However, the episode w/ Mewtwo felt like it completely missed the point of his character in the movie and special.
Make Ash and Goh’s achievements more of the story, rather than a side thought. There are events around people in the PWC meeting up and challenging each other, use that for more episodes to give more attention to Ash’s goal and have old characters return. Transition Goh from catching them all to an aspiring researcher like Sonia observes in the Darkest Day storyline.
It would be cool if they make a solo series
Ash cant catch a single legendary pokemon like ever but weak as go can catch and get more opportunities to catch them than ash 🤦 he has no skill

satoshi's goal is not to catch legendary pokemon, he just wants to become a pokemon master or whatever, it's go's dream to complete the dex and catch mew, WHICH requires catching legendary pokemon.
Ash could catch a legendary Pokémon in the future of Journeys and don’t forget the possibility of a Ilse of Armour and Crown Tundra arc in the anime and having Ash get Kufbu and Goh and Chloe going to the Crown Tundra and having a crossover on meeting Galarian Moltres.
I don’t like ranking series before they’re over but so far JN is nowhere above the bottom 2 for me for the reasons you stated;

On a side note, nice ranking! Admittedly I’d probably enjoy SM a bit more had I grown up with it like the series that came before. Still enjoyable tho

My personal biggest problem with Journeys has to be Ash's team. On paper, it's an epic, badass roster:
A lovable, yet powerful Dragonite.
A mischievous Gengar with a dark past.
A freakin' Lucario, a mon that everyone and their grandmother wanted Ash to have for so long.
A stoic Sirfetch'd that Ash was able to help a Kalos E4 member train.
And Dracovish, his first fossil mon with a cute personality.
But they all barely interact with each other. Heck, they interact with Goh's mons more than they do with each other. It would've been really cool if they had a family dynamic like Ash's Alola team, where Dragonite could be like the team mom and Lucario and Sirfetch'd could be sparring partners, but no.
