The EDF series is a prime example of 'I want better games with worse graphics.' No other series will force itself to look like it runs on a launch 360 so it can cram 5,000 ants on screen.
It was once, at this point its not like you could run this at 120 FPS while looking around 2-3 times better even on consoles. This is just not wanting to spend money on the property.
This game looks like if when you're playing Gmod with friends and decide to spawn 700 enemy garfields with shotguns, but made into an actual video game

It's a very niche game after all, EDF6 has had more concurrent players then aby other edf on steam and it's only 15-18k players last I checked, edf5 had 5k lol They do have new weapons and enemies, and they thrust you into old known foes much faster do you get to the new ones quicker then previous titles. It isn't the best game ever but what it does it does really well!

Really the only way to tell them apart is that the aliens are ever so slightly bigger than the humans, but you need to have them standing right next to each other to tell the difference.

In EDF5 There's a follow-up line later when you meet the game's version of the alien grays, which obviously look MORE human, about how they're "Not like the other aliens, they don't look like us at all". There's also lines about recruits being able to shoot the frogs because they look too human, and even a line where the soldiers are surprised that the frog aliens aren't afraid of the rain.
EDF is my all‐time favorite human created thing and, yez, it is poorly optimized and incredibly silly. You'll never find a game series as sincere and plainly joyously entertaining, though . Glad you had some fun with it.

The Earth Defense Force Game Franchise has been my favorite for years. High quality games every time. Top tier story. Top tier action. The classes even sometimes have slightly new weapons from game to game. 10/10 fun game
Nah let's be honest that Sandlot is pretty lazy and their optimization and balancing is all over the place. The games are alao missing a lot of QoL features. But they are fun because the core gameplay loop is fun and the devs know why their players love it - pure power fantasy (except for Inferno difficulty).

Once you start getting more insane weapons it gets a lot more fun. Movement is a fair criticism but you do learn to adapt to it. I'd suggest playing Air Raider at first for a better time. The charm of EDF is fighting tons and tons of crazy enemies and getting more and more ridiculous weapons as you go. At a certain point you just keep grinding to see exactly what you can get. Like tanks and giant robots or grenade launchers that create a vortex of fire killing everything in 100 meters.

the voice acting is superb. when they said those "bee-astards" not only did they convey their dislike towards the monsters, but they also implied that insects are even peskier then aliens.
It's a shame nobody gets to see how crazy this game truly gets. You saw somebody playing on normal difficulty (a "2" on a scale from 1 to 5) and only the first 9 missions out of 147. He barely got his feet wet.

EDF games are dumb stupid fun man. They are one of those franchises that zigged when the rest of the industry zagged. They could increase visual performance and framerate, but instead they will throw that juice at more things to kill or break. Its refreshing to see EDF when you see games that had 1-2 enemies but maintain some form of picture perfect uniformity, go "but we could add another 5 ants on screen though."
My favorite part of the movie was when the Frog jumped out of a UFO and said "We're not so different you and I". Truly the best Skyrim speedrun I've ever seen, 7/10 too much water.
I think that dialog about humanoid aliens beats the dialog in the 4th one about how flying women are the natural predator of giant insects. Right before the giant spiders showed up and ate the flying women.

Edf 2017, mission 9 tsugawa was with the giant robots and the beach, i can't remember which one was with all the ants, ultimate farm levels!

If you play on the highest difficulty, Inferno, the difficulty goes up, but you get THE most ridiculously statted weapons in the entire game
I've seen quite a bit about EDF games in the past and I gotta say, I've never loved a game I don't have any plans to play more than this series.

I haven’t played video games in almost a decade. This is the first one that’s tempting me back
EDF games are dumb stupid fun man. They are one of those franchises that zigged when the rest of the industry zagged. They could increase visual performance and framerate, but instead they will throw that juice at more things to kill or break. Its refreshing to see EDF when you see games that had 1-2 enemies but maintain some form of picture perfect uniformity, go "but we could add another 5 ants on screen though."
Playing the SNES E.D.F. music at the end was a beautiful touch

This is definitely one of the games that exists.
My favorite part of the movie was when the Frog jumped out of a UFO and said "We're not so different you and I". Truly the best Skyrim speedrun I've ever seen, 7/10 too much water.
I think that dialog about humanoid aliens beats the dialog in the 4th one about how flying women are the natural predator of giant insects. Right before the giant spiders showed up and ate the flying women.
