This generation never really got off the ground for me, I just don't see the point this late in the cycle of getting a Pro when there are barely any games i need or take advantage of the Pro much less the original PS5.
With the sold separately (lol) vertical stand, a full priced $60-$70 game, and a Pro with the disk drive, you can play PS4 games for the fifth time for the low low price of over *$900.*
Lmao just save a bit more and buy a gaming PC. One time buy and more games, you may be able to even...*cough* acquise some of those PS5 exclusives that supposedly exist.
$1150 is what Sony expects you to spend if you want the PS5 Pro, a disc drive and online for 5 years. About $1300 of you are european. For that Price you can get a PC that plays at higher resolutions and refresh rate. You will only be missing ONE game, Astrobot, since Spider-Man 2 is already playable on PC. You'll even get more exclusives and cheaper games in general
As a counterpoint, (I _might_ be misusing that word) I'm pretty sure you could get a 1TB Steam Deck OLED for that sort of money, and still have enough left over to put together a decent gaming desktop.
Do you have any advice for finding a decent gaming PC for under $1K? Because anything that can do what the PS5 can seems to cost closer to 2K. And I am someone who has no interest in the Pro but haven’t been able to find anything in the PS5 price range that can handle 4K/120.
Best platform to be on rn, you get pc gamepass for cheaper than xbox gamepass and with a bit of patience you get sony exclusives. Also, games cost much less on PC in general due to frequent sales and even official third party game key sellers like GMG make brand new games 10-20% cheaper on launch. You don’t need to pay subscription for online and so much more.

I'm glad people are finally noticing the ludicrous US to UK price "adjustment". I'm from the UK and I have noticed that from around 2016 the fact that a pound is worth significantly more than a dollar seems to be totally ignored when the price of hardware and software is decided, causing these ludicrous pricing differences that only get more extreme as the price gets higher.
Dang, that is a big difference. That's like $910USD over there. That sucks. Is the UK like Europe, where the tax is included in that price, or do you have to add tax on top of that price?
Rip off Britain has been a thing for a while. I hope this opens a window for Xbox here. It cheaper all around for many reasons - cheaper console, gamepass, cheaper game keys.
In Canada the PS5 Pro has been confirmed to be $959.99 before tax. With tax, it's $1,084.79 and that's without the stand and disk drive. That's going to be a no from me dawg.
That's an awful lot when online access also costs $100 annually, and games are $90. So for one console (without stand and disc drive), one year of online play, and 2 new games, that's $1400 after taxes. With the stand and drive it's more than $1500. Lol that's actually wild, I just built a decent PC for around the same price and it seems like money very well spent by comparison.
@@toptiertech7291 The fact that people think this is the problem is why people are paying 100 grand for trucks that aren’t even put together properly. Some portion of value is objective my dude.
Movies and TV shows usually license music for $15k-$60k so having an offer in the ballpark during negotiations isn't bad. The problem was that the band wanted $75k which was too much for a band no one knows about.
You don't expect Sony board members to take a pay cut after Concord lost $100 million do you? Do you! Now pay up for this plastic box so they can balance their books.
This isn't about short term profit recoup this is about setting a new price standard, much like they did with £70 games. Gaming is getting more and more expensive. Sony and Nvidia currently have no competition and thus are squeezing the market for all it's worth because they can. Market monopoly in action.
Sony really got us all out here at 11am, hyped up their overpriced console, threw around a bunch of tech bro terms, gassed up their footage as proof of how much of an upgrade it is to the base PS5, _and then proceeded to show only cinematic cutscenes of already released games..._

@@josephpurdy8390 The Neo Geo was (is) arcade hardware. If you have a look at modern arcade equipment, they are in the tens of thousands. So that price was more or less fine, as you got the 1:1 arcade experience at home. The PS5 is a x86 based consumer product, more like a PC. But with a PC you can do so much more than just playing games. Here you are mostly paying for being part of the Sony ecosystem, the same with Apple products.
@@mightylink65 The thing is, judging by the quality of the demo, the pc version of FFXVI is gonna suck or at leat be a far off the well curated and polished experience, that Playstation players enjoyed at launch over a year ago. And it's really not alone in this regard. All this to say that, I believe there is real merit to a high priced console, that lets me get lost in polished game, without worrying about shader compilation, traversal stutter, bad ports, crashes, driver problems, f-ing Windows, etc., while delivering a fairly high end experience from a technical standpoint. It's certainly not for everyone, but also nothing gets taken from anyone either. How is everybody so mad?
@@HansWurst-ht3jh frankly you sound like a spokesperson, you can have your opinion but the ps5 and xbox are essentially just PCs with their own proprietary software. There is no excuse for playstation ports to run worse on PC besides "profit" and they can shove it if they do it intentionally or not

Consoles are significantly easier to optimize for its not even comparable. The LAUNCH price of PS5 digital edition in Japan was 39,980 Yen. PS5 PRO, also digital, is now priced at 119,980 Yen. THREE TIMES THE BASE LAUNCH PRICE. I know Yen is now weaker but WTFFFF!?!!??!?!
@@shankypanky8879 It is for Japanese market lol, like that is the gaming PC range. There is a reason Switch is the king in Japanese market, selling with 2 generation old tech at cheap price. PS5 pro at worst will just be the reference point to sell more PS5 standard.
Mark Cerny used mostly the same buzz words that described PS5 when it was first unveiled. High fidelity at 60fps was the initial pitch for PS5. Now Sony wants us to think that the base PS5 is “choppy”? Just goes to show that this generation has been one fat false promise.
The ironic thing is that he is talking about this as though graphics will be in stasis from now on. I mean yeah, PS5 Pro might deliver 4K/60 and high-fidelity in "current" games (by which he means games that are 2-5 years old at this point) but in future games? I doubt it's going to be running something like GTA 6 at 4K/60 and high-fidelity with no CPU upgrade. Hardware is always going to become outdated.
It might get harder because I bet they will stop making the base PS5, and if no one buys the Pro then there will be more PS5 price gouging for the refurbs.
Considering the PS4 Slim and Pro ran concurrently for years... I am gonna say no to the comment above me. They aren't gonna attempt to force the market by removing the lower tier SKU, because that will blow up in their face and just lose potential buyers into their digital ecosystem. There's a reason the PS4 is able to use PlayStation Plus premium features. That's because Sony wants you in their ecosystem regardless of how you get in there.
@@UnrealGenius They're not gonna stop making the PS5, lol. It will still be most of their sales just as the PS4 still was once the PS4 Pro was available.

So I've got some sales experience working at a store in Australia that sells Video Games and consoles. It is very common where I get parents coming in to buy consoles or games and it can be challenging because the parents don't really know a whole lot about the industry and my job is to help make the experience as easy for them to understand as possible. I cannot explain the look parents give me when I inform them that if they want to stand up the PS5 (because they have limited room) they need to pay an extra $50 in Australia for the stand. Some parents think I'm trying to take them for a ride because in all the marketing material you see the PS5 standing up and it's hard to see the tiny font that says the stand is sold separately in the marketing media. I don't blame the parents for thinking I'm trying to take advantage of them but there really is no way of nicely bringing up the fact they the money they had set aside for the PS5 and some games, all of a sudden might not be enough as they need extra for the stand. ON THAT NOTE: I remember when they launched, it was $749AUD, stand and disc drive included. Then the price increased to $799 AUD, then the stand gets removed, now the disc drive gets removed. Sure it's slightly more powerful and has a bigger SSD, but I think taking features out of a product offering to sell back to you later under the guise of "oh but you get a better product so it works out" is incredibly disingenuous and just blatantly is taking advantage of customers especially as the price is just getting more and more expensive. A PS5 Pro in Australia with a Stand and Disc Drive could seriously cost around $1250!? That's a $500 increase form the launch price.... seriously this is ludicrous. EDIT: Just found out the AUD price is $1199 with no stand or disc drive... that is so much worse than what I thought it would be
Astrobot is amazing. My 6 year old comes home from school talking about how his friends are all playing. These kids normally just talk about Roblox. It's so refreshing to hear about a game that gets everyone talking about it.
Potentially, but then again if the CPU constraints already took 60 fps in consideration even with lower graphics the boost in GPU and PSSR working in tangent could work seamlessly to improve the image quality. The issue is that if a game is built only with 30 fps it's going to need new optimization and a patch which I am not sure most devs will do.
I’ve never felt more underwhelmed by a console purchase than this generation. The barrier to PC gaming is feeling less high, and the advantages more obvious.
Yep I’m getting the pro. Already bought the disc drive. People who are complaining about the price are either those who can’t afford it or not invested in the ecosystem and willing to compromise on other purchases. You don’t need the pro to play ps5 games.
Masterfully dodged that Final Shape review question. A bright future in PR lies ahead of you! Seriously though: Too bad, I was looking forward to it, but fair enough, your enthusiasm is what makes those reviews special. So props for not pushing it out half finished. Another casualty of Bungie's mismanagement I guess.
The PS5 pro seems to have a sales pitch something like "please upgrade your rtx 3070 to a rtx 4070 for a lot more money"... I don't think it's very compelling
@@darkmaster539 correct. It's the fact the games are awful, expensive, there's barely any of them in the first place, and no matter how much power you throw at the CPU and GPU, a console is just manufactured e-waste since you can't do anything useful with it so any PC of any age, even a Mac is automatically better anyway and most modern ones are graphically more powerful and have mouse and keyboard. Although not really if you buy keyboards and mice from Apple since the Magic Mouse isn't a proper mouse and a Magic Keyboard is some chiclet monstrosity that we gave up on after the ZX Spectrum 48, by upgrading it with a keyboard to make it a 64 which had proper keys. The real nugget to come out of the PRO reveal is the metric that 3/4 PS5 users use performance mode over fidelity. I hope that is taken to heart for future releases.
It's not guaranteed 60fps fidelity. Devs can also just use that extra power to add even more tiny or realistic details and make the games pro mode be 30fps
To be fair, you'll probably find more joy buying a $700 router, than a PS5 Pro... after upgrading my WiFi, my family shut up about crappy WiFi, where as I've only used my PS5 for Demon Souls... I know what's made me happier lol...
You can't tell me that anyone is going to notice a slightly less pixelated fence that's 50 feet from the camera while the player sits 10 feet from the TV. At what point does chasing high fidelity become a fruitless endeavour? After no one can notice any changes between generations? Because it looks like that's where we're headed.
We are definitely at the point of diminishing returns in terms of fidelity and most current performance modes now offer 60Hz or 120Hz at upscale resolutions that look indistinguishable from 4k unless your nose is up against the tv. This just seems pointless and a niche that didn’t need to be filled until maybe the PS6.
@@pixels_per_minute this is particularly interesting given that they released this information within a week of releasing Astro Bot, which is running at a rock solid 60fps out of the box while featuring some of the best physics simulation the base PS5 has to offer. Like, what clearer indication do we need that the base console has so much more to offer and it all comes down to, as always, the actual fucking GAMES.
They aren't chasing higher fidelity, they're chasing the money in your wallet with meaningless incremental tweaks marketed as innovation and priced accordingly.
It’s obvious the improvement. I counted a measly 20 leaves in performance mode on obsolete old ps5 basic and £699.99 worth of 22 leaves on the protastic.
People, don’t forget: They promised you 60fps with the first PS5, but it’s the publishers and game studios who decide not to bother with that, not Sony. Any more than television manufacturers get to decide what programs you’ll get with your TV! It’s all lies!
@@kosmonument2682 : Then you’re not playing GTA or Red Dead II then. Or Cyberpunk, or Phantom Liberty; not with ray tracing. Serious question: Are there ANY console games that offer both 60fps AND full visual fidelity? I haven’t seen any. But I don’t play with other humans on games like Pub G or extraction shooters.
@@kosmonument2682 : So, you’re aware that you’re giving up graphical fidelity to get that smooth ride, right? And that this is despite one of the main selling points of the PS5 and XBox X was that they were capable of giving you 60fps as standard, along with ray tracing and all the other whistles and bells. Which, I hasten to add, they are. The reason you never got that was down to the studios, or more commonly, the studio’s parent companies, the games, “publishers.” They don’t like spending money or time on that stuff and the markets proved them right to withhold it from us, because people rushed out and bought up their games anyway. The fact that they complain loudly about it doesn’t matter. Wallets are deaf. And, sure, GTA and RDR II are older games, but you didn’t qualify that. They’re still selling and still very much the current market.
@@kosmonument2682 : P.S. Take a look, here on RUclips, at those old ads for the PS5 and XBox X when they were first announced, through to them hitting the markets, if you like? See the stark difference between what they were offering and what you got for yourself? People were surprised and let down when they had to choose one or the other with the newest games that came out on those consoles. It took a while for people to see that this was not an exception, because say, CyberPunk had made all those promises about the PS4 and were trying to meet demands half way, for example. People always thought there was a, “special,” reason for why each new game did this, until they finally got it: They’re all doing it, whether the games had backwards compatibility or not. And just as they’re very slowly starting to come to terms with the evidence, Sony has the brass balls to re-offer the EXACT SAME THING, with this latest iteration!? . . . Do you trust them?
Anyone remember when Sony announced the PS3 in 2006 for $600? And because of that price, Sony continuously lost money for the next 3 years, and at times people even thought that the PS3 was finished? It seems like we are going back in time.
Not quite like that given the regular PS5 which is already popular remains relevant. If they try and launch the base level PS6 like this though, well that's going to be a different story
Ps5 pro is not a launch console, lol. Idk why suddenly everyone is saying they were planning to upgrade to the pro version when im certain the majority of people were going to stay on the base ps5 no matter the price. I honestly think the pro is fairly vauled when taking to account the current landscape of our world. Im more upset that this current generation is lacking first party games. The hardware doesn't matter if there isn't really much to play. I'll be getting the pro since I've waited all this time for it so i can jump into the current console generation. I expect a large uptick in first party games in 2025 and later. Literally all they had to do was announce a new game alongside this pro reveal, instead we mostly got ps4 era games shown.
Paying an extra £150 just because I'm Welsh *definitely* feels like price gouging to me Mr.Skillup. I'm all for unbiased reporting but I think this is being a bit generous to Sony, they are absolutely price gouging their customers here. The entire PS5 business model is built around the concept.
@@kaiko70 actually yes, im not talking about the currency conversion, that’s obvious. But where Sony is blatantly charging you more why not buy it on a different store and have it shipped to you?
I know Skill Up jests, but I've seen estimates for the PS5 Pro in Australia and it may cost about as much as a cheap computer, like $1200 without the disc drive and stand. That is outrageous for the system that may just give us an incremental boost in performance... AND still no way to natively play backwards compatible PS3 games. For that price, I'm just gonna save up more to buy a gaming PC. And hopefully a Steam Deck.
Most games that aren't Sony first-party don't take full advantage of the existing PS5 hardware (also, remember that custom audio tuning based on the shape of your ear it was supposed to have?), and now they want to charge $700 for a machine that can deliver the 4K60 performance level they were promising for the existing one. Nah, given that most Sony first-party releases come to PC within a year now anyway, I'll pass. Sony is rapidly approaching the levels of hubris they had back when they launched the PS3.
“Within a year” is very disingenuous. It’s been almost 2 years for god of war ragnarok. Also. Go ahead and build a PC that can do true 4k60fps and tell me how much that costs. You can’t build it for close to $700
I agree, it definitely feels like the PS3 release moment. Unfortunately Sony are in a position to eat the negativity because they essentially don't have a like for like competitor anymore thanks to Xbox shooting themselves in the head. 800€ PS5 Pro + 30€ stand + 120€ disc drive = 950€ for a full package PS5 Pro. With 1200-1300€ you can build an RTX4070 Super PC and play at 4k 60FPS or 1440P165FPS *everything*
Got to disagree that they arent taking the cream on this. The GPU cost will not be high as it is older tech so not competing for the most fab time with AI competitors. They are taking a very high 300-400 dollars of pure profit on the device given the removal of the disk drive and stand.
Remember when the console warriors used to mock PC players for "how expensive their system is?" Yeah for 4.2 million dollaridos you can build a rather good PC, not have to pay for online play, have access to nearly everything out on the market plus the modding scenes and emulation for older titles. The PS5 still barely has enough games exclusive to it to justify owning one over a PS4 and I say that as one of the people that actually has one. Astro Bot is rad and I love Demon's Souls but that's basically it for exclusives you can't also get now (or soon) on PC. At this point I would say call it, PC Master Race won.
In the EU, to play my physical ps5 games on Ps5 Pro I have to spend 800€ on the console plus 120€ on the disc drive. 1k+ USD to play games I already own!! What the hell sony
22:30 literally have not heard of this complaint. the score is/was actually being dragged down because of early access issues such as crashes and constant connection issues when trying to team up with friends, the fact they use Epic's online services to facilitate crossplay, lack of ultrawide support and issues with the controller support.
Ok calm down. I got my platinum for Astrobot yesterday and yes the game is fun, but far from 95% on open critics fun. It's a short and easy game that focuses on fun and new ideas, the visuals are great and the control is peak 3d platforming. But at the end, if you played any 3d Mario you will realise where 75% of Astrobot DNA comes from. Let me explain it simply for people already foaming from rage after reading this. Thanks for bringing the UK pricing into more focus. We are constantly getting screwed over with pricing over here. Prices rarely seem to be converted and we just pay the same in sterling that the price is in US dollars which inevitably means its far more expensive over here.

Not quite like that given the regular PS5 which is already popular remains relevant. If they try and launch the base level PS6 like this though, well that's going to be a different story
The Pro is competing with PC and PS5. It's nothing like the PS3 which had exclusives to their $600 platform.
360 was killing it compare to ps3 indeed
The only thing that could bring me back to Destiny would be unvault all the locked campaign content. The story/campaign was what I played for.
OW1 was my favorite thing of all time. I 100% feel you on your Destiny position. Cheers my dude.
I can spot the difference. But that difference is NOT worth $700. Where i live that thing will cost over €1000, with taxes.
I'm ok with trees not having full 4k textures a thousand feet from the camera.
Astro bot is so good, Sony raised PS5 prices
Paying an extra £150 just because I'm Welsh *definitely* feels like price gouging to me Mr.Skillup. I'm all for unbiased reporting but I think this is being a bit generous to Sony, they are absolutely price gouging their customers here. The entire PS5 business model is built around the concept.
Okay question, what stops you from buying it somewhere else in the world for less and then having it sent to you?
@@markhettenbach3141...are you serious?
@@kaiko70 actually yes, im not talking about the currency conversion, that’s obvious. But where Sony is blatantly charging you more why not buy it on a different store and have it shipped to you?
@@markhettenbach3141My bad bro i misunderstood your intentions, i thought you were a fanboy

My fav drop of every week. Thanks Skill Up!
We need a new company to rise up and enter the console space which ironically is exactly what Sony did originally to compete with Nintendo and Sega
@@toptiertech7291 Put your average person in front of God of War on a 55" TV running at 1440p or 4K and see if they can tell the difference.
And on PC, it's even less relevant. 4K's differences are imperceptible on less than 40" displays at a minimum. 4K gaming on 24-32" monitors is done for bragging rights only.
@@PXAbstraction this console isn’t for the average person 😂 why don’t you guys get that? This isn’t the console that a mom is buying her 11 year old son as his first console. The PS5s aren’t just going away. If you can’t tell the difference then don’t spend the extra money.
@@toptiertech7291 Then who is it for? Because all the hardcore players are also complaining it's a ripoff.
Cripes, fanboy logic...
800€ + 120€ for a disc drive + 30€ for a stand. That’s 950€ aka 1050$
Let that sink in….
following the apple style of enshittening, just like the 1000 USD apple stand they sell
But atleast you have free healthcare 😂

I never realized you didn't put out a final shape review, and it's literally the only thing I thought about the rest of the video.....
Your feelings regarding Astrobot 2 are how I felt about the entirety of the first Astrobot, so I can't wait to get my hands on it. 🤘
"fuk youuu and pay upp!!!!"
Plot twist: 3 weeks ago the PS5 Pro was priced at $500 then Concord happened.
Any Firefly mention automatically makes any video instantly better
I don’t know man, I clicked on this video and just thought, I f*cking love this week in video games. Thanks for making these every week ShillUp.
This team-up is pure gold!
700 dollars for a slight upgrade to a underperforming console with a practically microscopic game library……. Yea…. That’s a great investment
Astrobot is really good, but it is not a game of the year experience.
neither is wukong or -gear of war- warhammer 40k , both are mediocre games
Loved the game and you are 100% correct. A 50$ price tag would have been ideal.
@@votpavelso what is your GOTY then? Star Wars Outlaws? Lmao

Between Amazon and Epic free games you could theoretically never pay for a game and never run out of games to play. This is why it pays to be a PC gamer.
I am good with my original PS5 and I say that as someone who has bought every console Playstation has made at launch since PS1. The price is outrageous in the UK for me. F'em. At the end of this gen, I don't know if I will bother now with PS6. Might just go for board games, card games more and a switch 2, as well as some retro game solutions and physical media collection. The price coupled with no stand or disc drive is terrible. Unless they bring the price down and put out a model with drive and stand, then no way will I buy one. It would cost in the UK £824.99 for a stand and drive.
Is nobody in europe slightly annoyed that they are HEAVILY overcharging? $699.99 = 636€ and not 799.99€! Same goes for the pound price
Ralph: "How much?? 900 Dollaridos?!?! TOBIAS! Did you accept a 900 dollar PS5 Pro from the States?!"
i respect your Simpsons reference
I'm taking this straight to the Primeministah!
The PS5 Pro announcement improved the chances of my upgrade to the 5090. Thank you, Sony! :D
No it doesn’t 😂😂 real people don’t buy those on release. Just bots and resellers
Thanks for bringing the UK pricing into more focus. We are constantly getting screwed over with pricing over here. Prices rarely seem to be converted and we just pay the same in sterling that the price is in US dollars which inevitably means its far more expensive over here.
