    For the record they were definitely making a statement with this album. All the big metal bands were getting more radio friendly and accessible and they put out something really aggressive to show they were still thrash.

    • @sumonjamal1653
      @sumonjamal1653 2 года назад +9

      Well, Slayer were not happy w/ the record... it came at a difficult time - producer Rick Rubin was M.I.A. during the sessions... Dave Lombardo (drums) was out, replaced by Paul Bostaph... and they weren't sure if the new songs were any good. Still, the album went top 10 in the charts, but after that, Slayer's popularity crashed in the 90's - the punk covers record 'Undisputed attitude' and the next album 'Diabolus in musica' both failed commercially.

    This was also a direct reaction of the LA scene at the time. We had the riots in 1992, which was a result of course of the legal system not doing what it should have in the first place. The anger and aggression expressed in the song was really indicative of the scene in Los Angeles in the very early 90's.

    I got that album when I was 19. At that time I wanted everything to be as fast as Dittohead. Now that I’m all middle aged I have an appreciation for some of the slower, groove oriented songs

    You remember the Oakland Raiders? They wore those jerseys during this video. Dave Lombardo(drummer) wasn't on this album. A more recent one with Dave, and guitarist Jeff Hanneman's last album, had a video in 2013 "World Painted Blood". Lots of changes through that one

    This is the first Slayer album I heard so I have a soft spot for it. I wouldn’t say it’s their best album, but it has a very specific rough punk aspect that makes it stand out in their catalog.

I just recently started getting into the sun-genre a few years back, and I know you both seemed to dig Kyuss. I'd love to see what you guys think of groups like Red Fang, Truckfighters, All Them Witches, 1000Mods, The Sword, etc. Much love and keep on jamming! Also- Bear down. 🐻

    The violence of the music reflects the violence of the lyrics. This is like poetry in that is makes no excuses and has no purpose other than to say what it says. It reflects the thought of the word and the reality of the imagery it invokes. Raw and unapologetic. Not a fight with pillows or gloves. Cold concrete reality for some or for the perpetrator of crime. The state of law criminalizing non-violent crimes more than acts of violence.

    I love the chaotic energy of this song!! Also contains my fav Kerry King solo. But I hear what you're saying. For someone not really into metal, it can be overwhelming.
    Fictional Reality might be a better song for you guys.

    Guys, you should listen to the Slayer's songs "Skeletons of Society", "Fictional Reality", "Spirit in Black", "213" or "Divine Intervention". They are not-so-fast songs, yet really really heavy and aggressive. I bet you would love any of them.

    The thing to love about Slayer is that they are and have always been Slayer. You listen to songs off the 80s albums and they match right up with songs off their 90s albums. If you know you're about to hear a Slayer song you know you're about to be hit with a sledgehammer of thrash.

    • @theax40
      @theax40 2 года назад +1

      It's why Slayer is better than Metallica. Metallica had a mid life identity crisis and turned in a shitty rock band in the 90's only to just come back recently to what made them great to begin with.
      Slayer has just always been Slayer.

    Important context: "Dittohead" was the nickname given to Rush Limbaugh's fans. This song was depicting how they see the world, not necessarily how Slayer sees it. Just like Dead Skin Mask was a depiction of Ed Gein's (not Slayer's) pov.

    Okay boys @5:30.... that loose feel is on purpose!!!! They intentionally came in behind the beat to introduce that half time feel. Paul Bostaph was a really dynamic drummer and played a lot behind the beat.

    I know you guys. . i didnt shed a tear over the first 30 seconds cause I knew yall would nail it when they hit yall in the boo boo eventually. . 1986 was epic with metal, especially with the invention of CDs. . being in high school in 1986 was epic, even though only three guys wore Slayer shirts, all three became brilliant musicians, inspired by "Satanic" music. . .Please do Fall Out Boy soon. . .
