  • How to Change Oil on Ford Expedition
    In this video The Average Dan performs some general maintenance on our tow vehicle: a 2007 Ford Expedition. This provides step by steps instructions on how to change the oil on a 2007 Ford Expedition. The process is probably very similar on many other year Ford Expeditions.

    Thanks this video helped me change my oil today with no issues. I used thicker oil because my high mileage engine (150K) with new VCT solenoids was clattering when oil got hot/thin so went from 5w30 to 10w40 and quiet so far.

    Thanks for the video, It will save me time when I go to change my oil. Oh yeah, and I bet that nice rubbery grip on the end of the filter definitely makes the filter clean the oil better! At least, that's what the salesman said.

    Make sure you change the oil frequently on these 5.4 liter engines because if sludge builds up inside of these engines, they're ruined. I change mine every 3k miles using Motorcraft oil and a Motorcraft filter.

    IMPORTANT safety warning regarding this video ---- I would never use ramps and/or jack stands on any soft surface like gravel, grass, dirt, etc. Only use on a hard surface (concrete)

    • @TheAverageDan
      @TheAverageDan  5 лет назад +2

      I would agree with soft surfaces. In this video it’s an area that has been filled with gravel for 30 years so it’s pretty sturdy

      Also better to drain oil when level so lift front and rear, if you can’t fit under.

    Fram, among 3 other filters were cut open to ck the quality of the internal components and fram was actually the least well built filter. Everything from the total amount of surface are on the element, the quality of the element and overall construction( cardboard and glue holds those things togeter) Anything but fram was the ultimate result. I was surprised you had chosen fram and didn't encourage to dab some oil around the new seal which will keep it from sticking and help it expand the rubber to properly seal the filter without having to tighten it so hard. I liked you vid though. Safe travels

    Do not miss oil changes on any 3V 5.4L's, even slightly overdue is not a good idea.The cam phasers on these engines are common fail points and they fail due to inadequate oil pressure from old oil.

    Did you change out the oil drain plug gasket before replacing the plug? I didn't see that step.

    Wix oil filters are better than most oil and air filters. No I don't work for Wix, I own a lot of cars.

      Many recommend 5-30 as opposed to the 5-20 that's recommended by Ford. if you Google it you'll find several folks talking about which is better.

    • @jumbroni6014
      @jumbroni6014 3 года назад

      For exposition theres 2dipsticks. The right one is oil drivers side. The left near oil fill cap is transition fluid. Mine is mercon v

    • @michaelbefumo-qg7ji

      There are no trans fluid dipstick Saint expedition my 2008 have to go underneath on the passenger side there's a 15 millimeter wrench 🔧 take that boat out and there's a little yellow dipstick there. You will burn yourself on the exhaust and you add trans fluid a tube on the oil container or with the little pump you can get from Walmart

    Seems like you need to change the oil more often FRAM oil filters are too good either from what I've looked at it sounds like your cam phasers are taking now when you back at off the ramps and cam filers keep changing that oil. And if you hold them containers sideways they won't glurp they poor smoother

      Better quality and its what the manufacturer suggest

    • @d.e.b.b5788

      If you can get them on sale, great. But there are plenty of decent aftermarket filters available often for half the price, and remember, Ford doesn't make either their own filters, nor their own oil. That said, there have been a few scandals over the years when a company sold oil that wasn't up to standards, as well as crappy oil filters. But you usually get decent products as long as you stick to known brand names. Even Fram has come up with criticism, but as long as you change the product as recommended by the manufacturer, you're usually pretty safe using something other than the manufacturer's product. Or, you can go and find out who makes the filter and oil for Ford and buy directly from those companies.

      I have a 2008 Expedition Eddie Bauer with 150,000 miles and it sounds way better than this 07. You wanna know why???Cause I don't buy shit oil for my engine. I cringed so hard when I heard that engine back off the ramps.

      The Average Dan the R&D that goes into Motorcraft filters and oils is hard to beat. The information is out there, just take a look. I personally wouldn’t use anything else for my Expedition of F-350.
