I played D1 basketball (not NBA), and have followed this all pretty closely. I'm not mad, but it does feel weird. If it wasn't for Lebron, Bronny wouldv'e never even gotten looked at. I'm happy for them, like truly. But, I am also wondering how Bronny is happy right now, knowing the only reason he got in was because of his dad. Idk. Maybe I'm trippin but I wouldn't want to get selected by a team that just wants me because my dad plays there, with that being the only reason. I hope he does well in the NBA, I really do. But he will have to improve a lot from his time at USC.

This is an L TAKE Ruslan.
Nepotism is favoring your relatives or friends INSPITE of their lack of qualification for the role.
If Bronny wasn’t Lebron’s son he wouldn’t even be sniffing the NBA draft.
You are also conflating two ideas. Nepotism and Privilege. They are very different. Privilege is a necessary hierarchy God has put in place to allow us grow as a community. With privilege comes responsibility and the responsibility grows proportional to the amount of privilege you have been afforded. Which is also what i took from the parable of the sower. The point is Bronny has lebron james genes, money, and insight, as well as access to other nba players, professionals and trainer. He quite literally has the best of the best. He should be better, with that comes responsibility. So, Nepotism is a gross abuse of the privilege.
Dell Curry was an NBA player good enough to afford steph the same priviledges but Steph went to a small market school and got drafted 7th, having maximized the privilege he had been afforded. No one screams nepotism for Steph because he was more than qualified, which should be expected. If you have been afforded more privilege, the ceiling you need to reach is higher.
So nepotism is bad because it abuses the very reason why people are privileged. This is just a long winded way of saying, Those who much has been given much is expected

Well I mean if you really think about it, second round picks don’t really pan out anyway there are only about 5 second round picks in the nba who are actually have some raw talent. I doubt any other player left in that draft could have something in the lakers organization unless it was a under the radar type player like jokic or wilis reed which is quite literally so rare so Bronny being drafted doesn’t really matter due to talent not even remotely being there in the second round and this draft is also said to be one or if not the worst draft of all time in terms of talent besides the 2000 nba draft

Here's the thing about inheritance, often times it's left to the next bloodline and it's misused or mishandled. That's because they weren't taught how to manage it or they didn't earn these assets and properties. There's nothing wrong with LeBron paving the way for his son, the issue is that there are far more talented players than him and a lot of the recruiters who are observant of the sport stated that he is not ready. LeBron bringing him to the team so soon is only going to sell tickets but may not bring home the championship. I hope his son can prove me wrong and thrive! Wish him the best

I don't mind nepotism but sports to me is different, and I mean specifically the selection of the team sheet and recruitment. In sports, I believe meritocracy is valued the most and it is the only place where the fans value it. If sports sees players get selected because dad owns the team or the star player had the team sign his brother and forces the coach to play the brother in the first team that is disgusting and its shames the idea of competition in sports.
This happened in F1 and I tell you the driver whose dad got his son into one of these cars based off of his money and not his talent is smeared with the brush of who cares if he wins anything because whatever he wins means nothing. This happened also in European football a couple of times and when such players get up on the pitch it is clear they aren't there because they are the best but because the family is paying for him to play. It is sickening and the same will go for bronny if he gets a starting role or even gets minutes in big games. He will be ruined and so will the reputation of the team.
If you are someone who brushes past meritocracy in sports - then your opinion really doesn't matter in most things associated in sports. What do I mean, your opinion of the legacy of the great players you have witnessed means nothing because your threshold for what you believe to be fair in sports is not on par with what it is supposed to be. I don't care if a father and son get to play on the same team. If his son is good enough then it is just a side note for why it is a good thing to see. Winning means everything and seeing this shit annoys the crap out of me.

I haven't watched the NBA since Jordan, so that is a big nothing burger.
When it comes to nepotism, I had many negative experiences where not only I lost my job but others' livelihoods were devastated... and for what, some snobby spoiled brat to have a high position because daddy/uncle/mommy thinks they deserve it. It always ended up with branches, divisions, even businesses shutting down. In my opinion, nepotism is synonymous with the failure of DEI.
So respectively, take your nepotism and stick it.

With all due respect you should leave sports topics to people who are more well versed in these topics. Bronny is not draft material he did one year at USC and barely played, he could’ve played 3 more years and developed to be better and actually earn the jersey. For comparison Deion Sanders kids actually could make the NFL and have chosen to stay In Colorado and help their dad build the program. The other part of this is that Bronny and his dad are pushing the narrative that Bronny didn’t want to play with his dad but wanted to earn it on his own which if that was truly the case he would’ve stayed in college 3 more years. I don’t care about nepotism but own it, you can’t say “it was never about me playing with my dad” when it’s clear this whole thing was set up for that being Lebron’s option year, Bronny entering the draft prematurely ect…

Bad take... who cares if they are father and son... obviously LBJ unfairly used his influence to get a sub par college player in the game. LBJ himself was never a good player and used his influence to optimize his team, and coaches and players and style of play to all match himself. That is LBJs greatness. Most players are lucky to ever have 5 mins on a team that lets them play in their style and get the touches they want. LBJ had the power to choose his coach, his GM, his team mates and have the whole team mold to his style for his ENTIRE career. That is what is unprecedented. No other player has had this power. EVER!
