I was lucky to catch them live a few years ago. This song is a classic.

Best two-chord song, in my opinion 😊

I even think that lady in black is death itself. But, anyways, a very nice song as your reaction is. My physics professor in high school had them as favorite band and it's when I first heard for them and this song too. Music back in days had a role to carry out a story, but during the time a tool became a purpose for many.

There's a brilliant cover of this by Blackmore's Night. Both versions are great

Keyboard player Ken Hensley on lead vocals and John Lawton on backing vocals. Lawton known for Lucifer's Friend and Les Humphries Singers replaced David Byron as lead vocalist in 1976. Bass player Gary Thain died in 1975. Was replaced by John Wetton who again was replaced by Trevor Bolder. He the bass player in the video. Try checking out Lucifer's Friend - Ride The Sky (1971)

Typical German TV audience of the 70's and 80's 😅 I'm originally German myself but don't really know why it's been like that!? Maybe they were worried about being recognised by friends or family seeing them go nuts on TV!? 😄
I was 7 or 8 then, and I think the guitarist on the right (I keep forgetting his name) was the first makeup-wearing man I'd seen 😄
Great song! And it's only two chords! 😀 Also interesting how Ken Hensley's guide vocal is still faintly audible behind his proper one! 😊

Hi, Cynthia and Chris: Nice reaction. I never paid much attention to Uriah Heep when they were current but I understood that they were a Christian band and that may explain Cynthia's observation of their 'chemistry'. Sometimes writers use symbolism that make the listener have to really stretch to get the meaning. I'm no theologian but if I may, the 'fight' that he could not win was his rebellion against God. Jesus said ,'He who is not with me is against me'. A clue at the start is that 'she came one lonely Sunday morning', a day that the Church usually meets although 'she' can come at any time. In Hebrew, God's Holy Spirit is feminine. The writer is talking about the day that the Holy Spirit came and showed him his need to put his faith in God. His struggles 'fight' did not end but he now had the wisdom to see his way through them. He knew he was no longer 'alone'. Jesus said that to those who put their faith in Him, He would send the Holy Spirit to live in them. 'But now I know I'm not alone'. At the end, he is advising others to listen to Her. A Christian reading the lyrics can follow the story perfectly. This was a really good reaction; thank you two for the work you put in to make these videos.

Also, they've had several different singers throughout their career and different members of particular line-ups do the lead vocals, depending on the song style.
One of my other favourite Heep songs that's also quite different compared to this one is 'Bird Of Prey'.
Nice reactions and thoughts from you guys, by the way! 😊👍
