This is off one of my favourite Heep albums. At least in Germany, this is their best-known song. Compared to the entire rest of the album, it's however almost simplistic and a bit pedestrian. That being said, it deserves its place among classic rock hits. Cultivated the chorus without words.

I love this song. It was often one of the songs playing in the background during D & D sessions with my friends back in the late 70's.
Ken Hensley's first solo album "Proud Words on a Dusty Shelf" (1973) may not be popular enough for a reaction channel, but if you enjoy "Lady in Black" then I highly recommend listening to "Proud Words on a Dusty Shelf" in your free time.

Great album; has a lot of variety within it.
The Park is one track that inexplicably fascinates me. The strange falsetto-type vocals, incredible stop-start timing, and the sound effects (such as a cat’s meow) all add up to something that’s greater than the sum.
    Check it out, Justin 😊

I was down the Rcord shop the following day. I love 'that' the unique album sounds from the 1968 to early '70's. 2 chords (e, D) are enough. If there has ever been a song to be called an earworm it is this one. Though I like this song I have to admit that it is the one I like least on the album. Because it is a great album , a maeander between heavy and soft and simple and complex and bombastic and whatever.

Baa, baa, Black Heep. Have you any women. Yes sir, yes sir, in women I am swimmin'. One for the band. One for every guy at hand. One for the little boy, that lives down the lane. Many thanks for Uriah, even though I'm insane. "Birds Of Prey" would be the logical next choice. Peace & Love.

"Ole Audiophile to JustJP: Superb selection! My best audiophile pal & I both enjoyed their studio selections as about much as humanly possible as an odd-matched pair of audiophiles could. I was introduced to this group via Demons & Wizards, the very next album. My pal ran a few years ahead of my experience so he introduced me to their earlier library/all of it. Neither of us could understand their penchant for embarrassing themselves when performing live, I tried three times myself. It was sorta weird that it all seemed to come unglued just after their biggest radio hit 'Stealin' lasted what seemed forever on the radio. They simply vanished from view for most of the commercial market. Thanx. (note: Two of this band went on to establish Ozzy Osbourne as a solo musician, for that the entire planet should thank them even if Ozzy's wife Sharon did sue them. Now Ken Hensley on the other hand left Great Britain for the Eastern U.S. to join a southern rock band called Blackfoot for a couple albums.)

Some of those tracks are on their first album. Possibly the worst debut i've heard. As one critic espoused at the time 'From the first note, you know you don't want to hear any more. Sure they improved, but that first album, cover included. What a nightmare!

Never in a million years would I have suggested this track, I know every Uriah Heep song that was ever made and this one is the one no true UH Fan who is in his right mind, would want to hear on this channel. Sure, the song is not bad, given that is has onyl two chords and a refrain with no lyrics, but there are way more better Heep songs than this one. When this song is played live on stage, the true fans retreat to the background and the other, who have waited just for Lady in Black and were disappointed from the rest of the show come forward to sing along. Now do me a favour to forget about this and play some more stuff from Family, or, if it has to be a Heep song, go for any other song from this band.

I do like Heep but this is a bit of a throwaway track that works as an semi-acoustic singalong but is really only a mouth rinse between the richer courses on the album. Even the normally spicy mellotron doesn't add much taste.

Nice track, but too repetitive for what it contains and not one of my favourites from Uriah Heep! Having said that, on the same album, I don't particularly like 'Bird of Prey' either, because of David Byron's overly high paroxysmal vocals.

Well this was boring... A rather pedestrian, trudging, folk rock number were next to nothing happened. Don't think there was even a break of any sorts. Cos in the vain of folk, the tune often doesn't matter, and it's all about the tale. And though the vocal was ok, I'm hoping to be wowed by the music, and didn't really care about what he was singing. And so tune-wise, it was disappointment all the way. Bit of a yawnfest for me I'm afraid.
