Hey, Steve, I've been watching your videos for about a year now and I absolutely love them. They're so well done and relaxed, it's like chilling with a buddy while he shows you this new thing they brought home. Keep them up and have an awesome day!
Hey Mr V, that's awesome man! Thank you for the kind words, and I hope you continue to enjoy these reviews. There is always a certain allure to seeing some neat rations that many haven't seen yet. Hope you have a great day too and see you around!
Congratulations! You just discover the amazing "turron", the white stuff with almonds, it's like a tradition here in Spain when christmas is near. Love your videos!

Yo, Steve! Man, my wife and I love your videos. I’m not too sure how I came across your channel, but dude, we look forward to any new video, and are currently playing catch up on the oldies....we’re relatively new viewers/subscribers. Great work, man!

It almost looks like the kind of stuff your mom puts in a big platter on Christmas here in Spain: those protein bars look like “mantecados”, some candy, that delicious turrón de Alicante... Feliz Navidad, Spanish soldiers :)
And it is really good as emergency food . Lot of healthy fats ( almond ) , protein ( egg white ) , and sugar . It lasts a lot without refrigeration too.
Awesome review! Huge thanks to Carlos for scoring these and Eistee for helping secure them. It was a team effort. What a well thought out emergency ration. Has to be one of the best out there. Purpose built but also flexible to many survival situations. Small, light, but with quite a lot of calories plus the ability to have a small pot for water, and more item variety than just wheat bars or something. Thanks for the great video! Enjoyed it very much.
As a survival ration you wouldn't think it'd need to be anything too great, but it's nice that they kinda made it very interesting and fun. It'd be a big morale boost to open up something like that cola syrup or all those little almond chocolate bars.
Steve1989MREInfo Hello Steev! I love your channel and I find it very funny when you get a bad component and you eat some of it anyway. The funniest review I think was the 1975 Coast guard ration when you fought with some chocolate for 4 minutes.

To comment on the "not overly palatable" part I have insight which may add to the conversation. For the US MRE it is doctrine and told that if you cannot eat everything to try and eat a little of everything for each component is balanced (like the treat portion gives you daily sugar or the main gives you daily protein etc.) this is too try and give you the nutrients you need. However, for survival ration not a daily ration the opposite is required; the goal would be to give you the minimum you need to survive so that you can continue and even ration the components to last as long as possible. For this reason I think both the spanish emergency ration having a common theme of flavor (almonds) is ingenious and well planned so the individual in borderline starvation does NOT eat everything in one sitting. There would be multiple reasons for this again trying to stretch the calories, as well as if facing starvation eating everything at once could induce purging burn through the supplies cutting off the length of survival etc. When comparing MRES and rations of any sort I really love to compare and contrast them but taking into account task and purpose of each for not all MREs are equal but the reason they are not changes so when how or why they are not the same changes. I really appreciate your insight and like to watch along and think about the possibilities/ use for all these rations. Needless to say the emergency ration is one of the most thought out ones I have ever seen and am itching to acquire one for my backpacking kit. I love and think the spanish rations as a whole are the best or at least one of the best ever designed. Highly recommend at least one maybe two in any kit theres redundancy and needless repetition in bulk but having one or two would go a long way if your backpacking and faced a survival situation or had to expand your trip by a week or so unplanned.
I don’t know if anyone mentioned it or not but that concentrated Coke as you call it would also double to combat nausea. Coke syrup was an old school tool used up until the 80’s to soothe a sour stomach when experiencing nausea. Worked great, I remember my grandmother having a supply on hand that she got working in the hospital when I was a kid.
I just recently started watching your channel and I have to say I greatly respect the way you conduct your reviews like a gentleman without mean-spirited remarks, and yet it seems that your positivity and enthusiasm are always genuine. The most negative thing I've heard you say yet was to pleasantly state, "That's just not very good" in the poutine IMP. I look forward to watching many more of your videos in the future. Your positive attitude and pleasant voice are good for the soul. Keep up the great work.
Important sugars. You think we need a balanced diet and you are right but in a survival situation you need sugars, carbs and water. Coffee helps keep your digestive system in balance. Almonds are a good source of protein and carbohydrates.
Did you know that the white almond bar with the slim white cookie that looks like paper is actually a christmas sweet we only eat at christmas? It's cool, because it seems kind of a gift.
Heheh that woulda been hilarious if they also tasted like almonds - imagine if you were allergic, Mumzly! Would be a real bummer if ya really needed to eat.
One of the first times I watched one of your videos and you stirred your drink with your spoon, I thought the audio whacked out a bit when you tapped your spoon on the glass. After a couple more I picked up on it be intentional. At this point, it makes me smile each time you tweak the audio to get a different sound each video. The video quality has also really improved since you first started reviewing MRE's. Keep up the awesome content!
I sure do enjoy your videos! Your a handsome young man and you really seem to get into them MRE's which is fun to watch! I always look forward to watching you.Keep up the good work. I've tried to watch a couple of the other RUclips folks who do MRE video's but they just don't have the same fun personality as you do. Your a pleasure to watch!
Somebody who is not a lazy bum like me should grab like him tapping his spoon on cup from like 20 of his videos and compile them all together and make a song.
This is my first visit to your channel, but definitely I'll be back, coz one of the things I must value is the respect you show with each MRE. Congrats
I live in Spain and I kinda died when I saw the content. The people over here love chocolate so much that they eat it even on breakfast. And that turrón? Sugar, sugar and only sugar in that pack. Also that Almond is highly beloved flavor over here.
That almond nugget bar that you are eating is Turrón! A typical Spanish sweet, really popular and massively eaten during Christmas time. There are different types of it, you've just tried the 'hard' version of it. You can also find soft version called Turrón blando. I recommend you trying it, I think it will be a great boost for any ration.
If you're Spanish, you usually are pretty good with almonds. Almonds are everywhere. And the Cola gel... well, let's just say there's 2 things to drink in Spain. Wine and Cola.
I wonder what would happen if you just mixed the cola paste with water? Seems like a good way to stretch it out and encourage you to drink more water. My preference in emergency type rations are things like bullion and instant soups. You consume more water, and the hot and savory flavors are really satisfying, especially if you're stuck on a cold and rainy mission.
I tried it myself with this ration, it's pretty bad either way, it's the most mouth-punching strong, sour, bitter cola flavor you could possibly imagine.
I agree. Except emergency life raft rations. When stranded at sea, I would want things that do NOT contain salt or promote thirst. Plenty of carbs like sugar/candy. No proteins, that's a no-no! And desalination tablets.
steve's channel popped up out of nowhere on my recommended and i have been watching for maybe the past week or so now i like them they are oddly satisfying

There is something that interests me, and I'd like to see Steve or someone else make an attempt on this project. Basically it would involve assembling one's own 3 day ration from off-the-shelf food products that are commonly available. How did it go?
There's several questions that must be answered here.
1) is the ration supposed to be packed just before the trip or are we looking at potential long term storage?
2) what's the weight limit?
3) are we catering to dietary restriction?
If we're looking at some base level military style you'll likely have most of your protein coming from flat pack tuna and chicken. Sides might be limited to instant potatoes and noodles. Of course instant coffee and electrolytes are fairly widely available. Sweets would be candy or granola.

Right on, thanks Tacos59!
Somebody who is not a lazy bum like me should grab like him tapping his spoon on cup from like 20 of his videos and compile them all together and make a song.
This is my first visit to your channel, but definitely I'll be back, coz one of the things I must value is the respect you show with each MRE. Congrats
You rock Steve! You always manage to make watching MREs the most radical thing ever. Thank you for your reviews!
Gonna watch this video and then go to bed. Thank you mr. steve
goldendonuT Lol! I’m actually in bed, early day tomorrow but I saw this on my feed and was like... “sleep can wait”
Hope you get some great rest goldendonuT! Also I hope this slightly late reply doesn't somehow wake you and if it does, my apologies. Goodnight!
I live in Spain and I kinda died when I saw the content. The people over here love chocolate so much that they eat it even on breakfast. And that turrón? Sugar, sugar and only sugar in that pack. Also that Almond is highly beloved flavor over here.

You really should be hired as a consultant for MRE development.
These videos are so interesting and calming. I like his approach on doing these things, making them informative but still weirdly charismatic.
If you're Spanish, you usually are pretty good with almonds. Almonds are everywhere. And the Cola gel... well, let's just say there's 2 things to drink in Spain. Wine and Cola.
El típico Kalimotxo de fiesta 👌

Cool something I haven't seen before thanks Steve
I gotta say I really do enjoy the older rations that you review. Seeing the way soldiers ate in the past is intriguing.
These reviews always being super dece for me.
Always love seeing this. Continue the knowledge and reviews Steve. You’re amazing
Does anybody else notice when he stirs his drinks it makes a musical tone?
It's an emergency ration for 24h the body needs calories and sugar to stay active... Until you find rescue equipment or an allied unit
or KFC
steve's channel popped up out of nowhere on my recommended and i have been watching for maybe the past week or so now i like them they are oddly satisfying
Hey Steve! Just for you to know, the white almond bar is what we call "turrón" a tipical snack we eat on Christmas. Keep on with these videos!!
