- In my "EAS Adventures" series, I fly out from a hub to an EAS community and back to the same hub where I started the journey.

In this sixth episode of EAS Adventures, I fly to the unique EAS community of West Yellowstone located 273 miles north of Salt Lake City. This is a special video as WYS is the 50th EAS community I have been to!!! I take the trip on board a Delta Air Lines CRJ-200LR which is operated by SkyWest, which will be retired on Nov. 30, 2023.

Unfortunately, Delta has already ended their seasonal service to this community for the 2023 season, as they only see airline service from May until about mid-October every year, which coincides with the closure of the National Park entrance located only two miles from the airport. I included facts not only about the route, but also about the airport, and more fun facts about its past service history, including how the CRJ-200 and Delta has been an important part of the WYS community since the 1980's.

If you happen to be stuck at a hub, fly out and back to an EAS Airport, and you may just like where you end up...ENJOY!!!
Flew there few times in a Boeing 727 from Denver we did some fly fishing trips in the 1980's was really fun as a teenager. We would take a bus up to LAX in southern California then lay over in Denver fly into West Yellowstone. The terminal looks the same as it did back then we used a rolling ladder. There wasn't any security just person taking the ticket as you went back up the stairs.
Yeah, it definitely looks like the original terminal and it was also definitely not set up to handle a security checkpoint and a passenger holding area. The new terminal looks a lot bigger and will probably fix that issue.
Cool video! I flew WYS-SLC and back a few weeks ago and what a fun experience it was! That old terminal is such a time capsule and the "bag claim" on the curb was so unique. I will say though, my flight out was on a fully loaded CRJ-900 and it's all the airport could do to handle 80 or so people and their luggage. So while the current terminal is a fun throwback, it is nice to see this small community getting a brand new facility that will be much better suited to handle the modern traffic demand.
Thanks for sharing your experience. It looks like you enjoyed it as much as I did!
@@NickWmadevids I agree, it is nice to see new terminals in small communities. I think without security they coulda fit more in there but obviously they won’t take that checkpoint and put it in a different building
Must have been light winds that day, landed one way and took off going the other way...
I think it is a restriction due to surrounding terrain. BTM is the same way
nice video. always fascinated with jets flown into teensy airports like this.
Really cool videos! I assume you are flying non-rev on DL, and would be interested in vlog content if you ever have gotten stranded. The EAS flights seem to always have space (hence the need for a subsidy), but wondering if you have ever been burned on the positioning flights due to loads or IRROPS. Also wondering what the final Delta Connection CRJ-200 flight will be? Last one I found is EKO-SLC early morning on Fri, Dec 1.
I probably wouldn’t do a video if I got stranded 🤣. Nope, I always look before, and if it’s close I don’t go as I don’t want to get stranded in the middle of nowhere. I’m booked on *what I thought* was the final -200 flights Nov.30 to CDC and CNY, but I guess they have one more flight from EKOSLC in the morning like you found, but I’m not going to stay overnight in Elko for that unfortunately
@@GerardiAviation I don't blame you for not wanting to overnight in Elko. I'm a bit surprised that there is not going to be a ceremonial final flight to/from SGU, since Skywest is headquartered there.
@@goyanks007 yeah same. Plus adding an overnight at the very end for -200 crews make no sense logistically. Unless they want the final one in the daylight
