    Went to a number of Fleetwood Mac concerts in San Francisco in the 60’s, and was fortunate enough to sit in the front row of most of them. Experienced every talented group under the sun in those halcyon days, and Peter Green will always stand out for the haunting spell he cast on everyone in attendance….that incomparable, soulful voice, along with his genius on the guitar.

      Saw Peter Green with the splinter group in San Francisco, once at the winter Land and once at Bimbo's. Carlos and members of John Lee hooker's family were at the Bimbo's venue. Great show, Peter was smiling all through out the show.

    Peter Green really was someone and something rather special back in the day. I never bonded with the later incarnation of Fleetwood Mac. The music never spoke to me in the same way and there were too many heavily medicated egos flying around during that period, for my liking. I was always surprised that they chose to continue under the same name. Any legacy was very difficult to discern. A lot of fans, I'm sure, are quite unaware of the original incarnation.

  • @davidbeckerich
    @davidbeckerich 3 года назад +13

    Peter Green was not only a fabulous musician but a great man with a big heart. For the people that we're touched by his humanity and lack of ego were happy to be part of the tribute concert and it does not surprise me that so many of his peers would show up to pay tribute to him as a man and as a musician I've been following early Fleetwood Mac since I was 13 and as Mick Fleetwood says that was 50 years ago, it's been a great ride and I continue to obsess over the music and guitar playing of what I believe to be the greatest white blues guitarist. Respects to all including Mick Fleetwood, Jeremy Spencer and Christine McVie (I am saddened that John McVie a friend and Band member of 55 years did not make the effort to be part of the tribute) for their efforts to show the impact that Peter Green made not only on the music end but in life in general. Peter always and continues to have a major impact on his fans who have never forgotteñ the kind leader of the original Fleetwood Mac. In the mid 60's Fleetwood Mac impacted the music that consumed Britain and consumed an era of american blues opening our eyes to the musicians that created the blues and opening the door for younger talent to add to the story of the blues and showcasing the talents of many musicians that dedicated their playing to continue the history of the blues. Thanks to all those famous and unknown for their crusade at keeping the blues alive.

Those two songs take me to a place like no other songs I know of to date......... and that's a mouthfull for a 67 year-old who listens to a lot of music across various genres. A sad story for sure, but I am grateful for the music Peter Green left us and for kicking off, arguably, the greatest band in R&R history. I had Fleetwood Macs Complete Blue Horizon Box Set a number of years back.
    It had their studio pieces , plus the 5th disc had out takes if I remember correctly.
    The 5th had Peter playing the blues , and I would listen to that more than anything .
    So impressive. I bought it back then for $19.99 , and now to replace it cost anywhere from $50 used,
    to over $100 BNIB .
    I would like to add that that Box Set is why I became a huge fan of Mick Fleetwod as a drummer.
    What makes some of Fleetwood Mac's so memorable ?
    Think of it , it's Mick's beats , along with those bass lines.
    One comes to mind and it's from Tusk .

    And in te background the painting on the cover of Then Play On. Before superstardom, Fleetwood Mac were a respected blues rock outfit. They were also noted for having lead guitar players who went a bit bonkers: Jeremy Spencer and Peter Green. 1969’s Then Play On was the finest album of the Peter Green era. It also has a swell cover, that’s described as follows in the LP’s Wikipedia entry:
    The painting used for the cover of the album is “Domesticated Mural Painting”, by the English artist Maxwell Armfield.[6] It was featured in the February 1917 edition of The Countryside magazine, which states that the mural was originally designed for the dining room of a London mansion".

      @@bjr4567 Yes, Bob was the force behind Danny getting fired. He even admitted in a penguin interview from 2003 ( Bob's wiki ) that he was after Mick to fire him shortly after he was hired in 71. Then the man who replaced Danny had an affair with Mick's wife. @@RobbyByrne Well in fairness, Danny was his dance partner in all that went down and for all his talents, wasn't the easiest guy to get along with day in and day out. Also, Bob wasn't desirous to see him go until it became clear the two of them would never get along due to Danny's uber-sensitivity and hard drinking binges. Moreover, Welch was in FM for almost as long as Kirwan was, and was instrumental in helping them transition from England to California where their fame would truly soar. So there is a bit more to the BW story.

    • @RobbyByrne
      @RobbyByrne Год назад

      @@bjr4567 You're right. Danny definitely had a hand in his demise. Depression and alcohol is a terrible mixture. Unfortunately, Danny rose to the ranks too young and never received help for his issues. Both Mick and Peter blames themselves. I do take issue with your Welch take. Bob was ambitious and Danny stood in his way. Bob was relegated to rhythm guitar and relied on his one hit during the 71-72 period. Other than that he sung Peter Green songs during his concerts. Danny knew Bob was conspiring with Mick to get him axed so it's no wonder Danny never trusted Bob. Isolation became a huge problem for Danny in the summer of 72. Mick held on to Danny until that fateful night in Sept. of 72. We have never heard Danny's side to the story, but it was no surprise that it all started with Welch. Bob had his own issues with liquor. When he abruptly quit the Mac in late 74, he was drinking heavily at the time. Peter, Jeremy, and Bob all quit. Danny did not. There is something to be said about that.

    • @bjr4567
      @bjr4567 Год назад

      @@RobbyByrne Well, we partly agree and disagree. I'll give you Bob was very ambitious but the final decision to let Danny go was a band decision, even if Bob declared he had had enough. Unfortunately by that late point in '72, Danny had managed to alienate everyone in the band short of Mick. He was a very private individual indeed, and sadly didn't let his hair down often enough. Dead serious, to quote Bob. But the others saw this too as time went on. Mick defended him like he did since he was the last creative throwback to the triumphant Peter Green days, and was clearly the Mac's most prolific songwriter (Bob and Christine were still only improving in this regard). He was also a top notch guitarist, one who rivaled Peter Green with his chops. And that vibrato! Danny largely carried those two albums he did with Bob, particularly Bare Trees. However, Welch didn't have the drinking problem that Kirwan had developed, he wasn't throwing temper tantrums and was much more of a "team player" in the collective mix. All of this coalesced to help seal Danny's fate. Let me add that IMO Kirwan was as big a loss to FM as Green was before him. It's a true shame what went down, and we all lost out because of it.

      Idk man, sounds like a little too much wax in the ears. Listen to Peter greens solo on jumping at shadows or worried dream. He was a much better guitarist than Lyndsey buckingham 😂😂 him trying to cover Peter’s songs were a joke.

      @@NoItsAvailable I've been playing guitar for 38 years, and I can appreciate and respect Peter Green, Lyndsey Buckingham, and most of all Danny Kirwan. Of the two songs you suggested by Peter Green, I could learn to play each one in about 1 hour, and you would not be able to tell the difference......... However, if you asked me to play 'Never going back again' by Lyndsey Buckingham, or 'Trinity' by Danny Kirwan I don't think I could EVER play it............. I suspect you don't play guitar, but only LISTEN to it.......... Danny Kirwan and Lyndsey Buckingham are FAR better guitarists than Peter Green, but Peter Green was still a GREAT SONGWRITER.

      @NoItsAvailable 2 месяца назад

      @@banditdarville. I play guitar too man, and just because you can learn the song doesn’t mean you could give it the same emotions and feelings Peter green was able to. I agree Kirwan is a great guitarist but I just can’t agree with your opinion of Lyndsey and that’s fine. I never cared for the later incarnation of Fleetwood Mac personally, I always preferred the original blues with actual feelings. And when bb king says he was the only one to give him the cold sweats, and the fact he inspired many greats you know Peter green was the real deal.

      @@NoItsAvailable I'm talking about who is the better guitar player, NOT who had a better sound, or who was the first to play in a certain style or influence the music world in a creative way........... I agree with some of what you are saying, but I've fallen into the same trap in the past thinking that somebody is THE best guitarist in the world, JUST because I like their music, when in fact there are guitarists that are BETTER, but I don't necessarily LIKE their music............. I stand by my opinion that Danny Kirwan and Lyndsey Buckingham are FAR better guitarists, BUT Peter Green is possibly a better songwriter.......... Just take Bob Dylan for an example........, he can't sing for toffie, but he has written some of the best songs in history........... (a lot of which have been recorded and acheived greater success by people who CAN sing..........)

    I went to see Fleetwood Mac play maybe half a dozen times,and they never disappointed...
    First time would have been at the sundown in mile end,east London, about 1973 I would think....
    Didn't realize just how privelaged I was to have seen them at that time of their career...
    And the following concerts would have been at Wembley and possibly the rainbow 🌈 etc...
    At the age of 21 I went to America...never having been abroad before,it was life changing..
    While in new York I bought a copy of rumours, which I still have...
    Now my daughter plays the album to my granddaughter on the school run etc..
    Music is a positive influence on us all.
    Congratulations to the band,past and present members alike

    Peter Green - The Best british Guitarist ever and a true Bluesmaster. This humble man is nothing less than the Blues-Guitar Olymp. Peter is in the Pantheon with other giants like Buddy Guy, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, Albert & Freddie King, Muddy Waters. So sad that the Blues and the entire music lost this genius after a fatal LSD trip in early 1970. After that he was never be the same again.
