  • At what point do you stop seeing the difference when it comes to comparing refresh rates? Personally I had a hard time seeing the difference between 144hz vs 180hz. I want to check out a 500hz screen now.
    If you enjoyed, drop a like on the video. Helps a ton.
    If you are interested in the monitor, the link is below. I will also mention, if you pick up this monitor, it is a great deal but prepare to do some color tuning if your going to run anything else but games on it. That was my only real complaint with it, which was mentioned in the video (lots of saturation and reds)

      I play on a 170hz screen (m27Q). Until I got it, my 60 fps screen was great. Now it's more like.. anything much under 100 looks or feels "choppy" if that makes sense. I can't tell the difference on any screens 170 and up, never played on one.

      I thought I wouldn’t notice a difference between 180 and 240 but where the difference lies is that my 1%lows on 180 were 120 but on 240 my 1%lows are 180. In a game like apex constant fps is everything and will win you fights

    An other good one! I really liked those familly vibes. Keep UP the good work. As for refesh rates I'm fine with low FPS in retro isometric games. But in newer stuff I got used to 144hz and would find it weird to go back

      Yeah it would be extremely hard to go back to anything below 120hz. I recently cracked my Pixel 6 Pro that has a 90hz screen. Had to take out the old pixel 2 for a bit, but the refresh rate and laggy feels was so bad, I'm just dealing with the cracks.

    In my opinion the discussion about "what eyes can see" misses the entire point once we get past 60fps - the difference is in how snappy it *feels" and the instant responsiveness, not whether we "see" more frames. Good video

    Good vid! Glad you made that comment about humans not seeing in FPS its more like infinite FPS because there is no shutter so the limitation becomes brain speed. Not sure where I was reading it but I think its around 1000hz and it would be like looking out a window instead of at a screen. I cant imagine 1000hz screen but here we are with 540hz so who knows. We will need some better CPUs lol

    • @ardaghion
      @ardaghion 2 месяца назад +1

      The weird thing is that your brain doesn't see in a continuous stream, it sees in chunks, or snapshots, and then creates the illusion of continuous vision.
      The other thing is monitors are raster devices, they essentially draw an image across the screen, whereas the eye sees in parallel, each rod and cone detects light at the same time. Then the signals from the retina travel to the visual cortex pretty slowly and the brain makes sense of the information from the eyes. Probably why we see in snapshots.
      In film, 24 or 30 frames per second is about the minimum before the brain can see individual frames and doesn't see a continuous image but this is due to the frames being a complete image. With monitors and TVs, the image is drawn from top to bottom, side to side. So there is never a full screen image at any single moment. You would need an extremely high refresh to light up the last screen pixels before the first pixels at 0,0 faded away. And in monitors that have fast pixel switching times this becomes even more difficult, probably why the old CRTs didn't seem to flicker as 60 fields per second because the screen phosphors would glow for a time, of course this caused other problems like smearing or interlacing artifacts.

    I'm retired and at my age I don't think my eyes or brain really can see the difference between 60 or 144 Hz refresh. On my PC I have a 27" 144 Hz 1440p monitor, alongside a 24" 1080p. Setting it to 144 Hz just makes my pc run the fans at max speed and over heats my tiny gaming room. It's not a terribly old PC either, 11th Gen i9-11900KF with an RTX 3090. There's no thermal throttling, just no place for the heat to go and poor air movement in that room. So 60 Hz is a good tradeoff between heat, noise and visual acuity.

    I know it’s personal preference but monitor size does make a major difference, I swapped my 27in 1440p 180hz panel for a cheaper 24in 1080p 240hz and man 200+fps 1%lows are a game changer for shooters, but my point being is 24in has me much more comfortably competitive with how close I get. My next panel will be a 24in 1440 60hz for a seamless dual monitor setup since I main the 24in 1080p 240hz xg2431 from viewsonic.

    you can actually feel the most of a difference or jump in smoothness from 30hz to 60hz and 30 fps to 60 fps going higher than this you can tell a difference if you are playing competitive games with a keyboard and mouse for a third person and story campaign games locked 60 fps will deliver you a buttery smooth gameplay even with a keyboard and a mouse and if you are using a controller than its very hard to tell the difference between 60 fps to 120 fps on 120 hz monitor or not at all.

      It really depends on what screen you have, If you're running a 60 HZ panel sure you can unlock it and have 200 FPS and amazing screen tearing everywhere if you need that edge. Personally I find it more distracting. The higher up the ladder you go 120 to 144hz, setting a higher cap or leaving it unlocked reduces latency and looks better. Optimum Tech has an older amazing video going over the trade offs.

    INTEL ARC and how it seems to compare to AMD/Nvidia is not that strait forward. Different architecture of the ARC I find with 4k (A770) competes with 4070ti. Even that the Nvidia doubles the FPS the game experience is better with INTEL. I'm sure how these cards are compared by FPS alone doesn't give the true performance of ARC. ARC pairs with the INTEL CPU and you need to count this as one. AMD/Nvidia you count the GPU as one alone and the Wattage also is lot higher because all/most tasks are in the GPU. INTEL splits the tasks pretty evenly where there is very little waiting time. This results 60FPS looking and feeling better than 120FPS from the competition. ARC very under rated GPU. Also has to be said that the upcoming Intel Application Optimization (APO) will be a game changer promising 10-50% boost for the supported games. Also it seems that every driver update the gap between AMD CPU and INTEL CPU is widening.

    • @techwandoUS
      @techwandoUS  2 месяца назад

      Appreciate the comment. Will definitely look into these performance gaps.

    • @paulboyce8537
      @paulboyce8537 2 месяца назад

      @@techwandoUS My take is that the ARC had to perform closely no matter AMD or INTEL CPU to sell and break into the market equally. Now that it has established a market place it looks like the drivers are optimized for the INTEL CPU that seems to have lot of performance left on the table. Alchemist and Battlemage have closely similar architecture where the Alchemist most likely will also greatly benefit. And APO who knows how good that will be. XeSS XMX took sometime and now competing with DLSS very closely. Battlemage 2024 to bring the APO with it and Celestial 2025 to rake the benefits. I don't think INTEL is looking to challenge 5090 because it is a production card and mostly an overkill. 4080/5080 yes with price and selling the CPU also for new builds. I have always seen the ARC as marketing tool for the INTEL CPU. MSI for example giving up the AMD GPU's indicates a void to be filled. INTEL GPU's? Could also explain why Asus is trying to sabotage INTEL. Just guessing. But it can't be ignored. INTEL baseline/recommended for their CPU's is 400A that should give 38000 Cinebench score. Asus from the box is pushing 511A. No wonder INTEL CPU's fail. Now forced to add baseline for INTEL the value for baseline is 280A and 33000 score. Set the values manually for the recommended 400A and the score is about 1000 short in Cinebench from the Asus board. Explains why Asus is pushing 511A if they can't be competitive. Food for thought.
