      Something that I found as a person who migrated from console to a laptop and still use a controller on many of the games is that tuning sensitivity in a controller with fps is a nightmare. Because the change in latency completly changes the sensitivity so I would still recomend that if you are playing on a controller that you lock your fps at and tune sensitivity at that point

    I use now a 1440p 240Hz monitor. And I can't lie, I don't see big of a difference to the 144hz I had before. But sometimes I feel it just being that little bit smoother and nicer. Plus there are probably things that are probably things I won't actively feel but still have an impact. And for me, I found out around 90fps is where I want to sit, even for a single player game to make it feel nice and smooth

      I can barely tell the difference between 120hz and 240hz, and I have a high end OLED. Then again, I couldn’t care less about competitive shooters. The only competitive games I play are fighting games, and those are locked at 60. But I still like having a high refresh rate due to the far superior motion clarity. Games are just more immersive that way.

    • @flamingscar5263
      @flamingscar5263 2 месяца назад +2

      The difference between 144 and 240 is much smaller then say 60 and 144
      It may at first seem weird to say that, I mean 1 is nearly 100 hertz more while the other is 64 hertz, wouldn't the one that's 100hz more be more noticeable?
      And the answer is counter intuitively no
      The reason is milliseconds per frame
      At 60 hertz each frame lasts 16ms (rounded down as the real answer ends up with 16.6)
      At 144hz each frame lasts 7 ms (rounder up this time)
      At 240hz each frame lasts 4ms (again rounded down)
      So the difference between 60 and 144 is nearly 10 ms, but between 240 and 144 is a difference of 3ms
      To add 500hz to the equation here, that would be 2ms per frame (no rounding) a difference of 2ms from 240
      And to go to something crazy and (to my knowledge) not even available on a consumer display, 1000hz would be 1ms per frame, so despite being nearly 4 times more hertz then 240 its only a difference of 3ms per frame, compared to 60hz vs 144hz where despite being only about 2 times the hz ends up with a difference of almost 10ms

    I've heard other content creators comment about the Capture Card FPS limitation. Also heard many content creators blame stupid capture cards for massive recording issues, lost audio/video, etc. The Capture Card market must be a mess. I guess this goes back to way back when Hollywood was trying to block any product that allowed lossless digital copies of copyrighted digital media? Seems like a "splitter" would work better- allow 120+ on the monitor side but then one branch goes to the Capture Card (PC) and is Captured at 60. Considering just how many content creators/streamers use capture devices for a good recording now.. it's crazy the Capture Card market is still that limited/buggy.

    HDR on an IPS panel is a gimmick, they did state tho that they "meet" the requirements for HDR. But true HDR can only be achieved if your monitor has Full Array Local Dimming, only available on OLED or miniLED panel

  • @AndersHass
    @AndersHass 2 месяца назад +1

    Entry level HDR isn’t really worth it.
    It can still be good SDR monitor but you would have to go up to like DisplayHDR 1000 for LCDs to be worth it, where OLEDs have it easier with the deep blacks.

    Hey Iceberg tech. For a true HDR monitor you might want to check monitors unboxed for the best budget option for a genuine true HDR monitor. They need a full array backlight and a minimum of 600 nits for an entry level experience if my memory serves me correctly.

I've got it paired with a 4070ti based system so I can use 1440p and get 165fps in most games. When I first got into gaming I had a REALLY nice "pro grade" CRT that could do 85hz at 1600x1200 but I mostly played at 1280 x 1024@100hz. When I bought my first LCD screen (I waited a while for them to become a bit better) going down to 60hz didn't make me any worse at games like Counter Strike Source.
    Now that I'm older and slower does a higher refresh rate make me any better at gaming ? Not really, maybe in some circumstances. One thing however is that my eyes feel much better looking at a higher refresh screen, so just doing work at the PC is so much easier at a higher refresh rate. I don't think I could ever go back to 60hz (I have a 165hz monitor.)
    Will it make you game better ? Most likely not. Will your eyes thank you ? Yes.

    • @aboveaveragebayleaf9216
      @aboveaveragebayleaf9216 2 месяца назад

      Frame rate is more important than refresh rate. As input response is lower. If you want a clean visual experience sans tearing, and high fps, then you need one of two things. A high refresh monitor with variable refresh rate, or to run vsync at a multiple of the refresh rate. You can play competitively on a 60hz monitor just fine if you run 120fps or unlocked fps.

    In this humble old man's experience, going from 60 Hz to 144Hz really really ups your understanding of the action in some games.
    It doesn't do that much for most games.
    And it rarely really ups your aiming skills. Sometimes you get a slightly quicker response but your natural skill and gamesense still do most of the job.
    Small Edit:
    From people I've talked to, diminishing returns show very fast past 144Hz. Nothing wrong with 165Hz, 180Hz or 240Hz, or even 360 and beyond. But if you can expect a huge leap between 60 and 144, the leap between 144 and basically anything beyond will be smaller. Just so you know not to overspend to get an extra 25 or 40Hz. It's likely to not be worth the cost unless you're already playing at a pro or near pro level.

    • @aboveaveragebayleaf9216

      60fps vs 120+ is a big difference in input response. I do recommend running double refresh rate vsync if you are on a 60hz display.

      For refresh rate it's better to convert it to Ms per frame, 16.6ms=60hz

    • @aboveaveragebayleaf9216
      @aboveaveragebayleaf9216 2 месяца назад +3

      @dagnisnierlins188 this is true, but frame rate≠refresh rate. They are separate entities. The input response is honestly more important than the refresh rate. The high refresh is a bonus for smoother visual.

      The reason is because most human eyes can track up to 90 Hz, so you're not gonna notice much change at all beyond 120 Hz, apart from very specific scenarios which are not what the normal use case of a monitor would be.

    • @Draffen
      @Draffen 2 месяца назад +1

      @@BrunodeSouzaLinolol i easily spot the difference just moving around my cursor and opening windows between my 165 and 240, pretty much everyone i know can see the difference too and it’s more noticeable in games that i can run at 240.
      It’s true that you reach a point of diminshing returns, i wouldn’t buy a 240 over a 165 if it were considerably more expensive, but that old tired argument of “the human eye can’t see past X fps” is plain wrong. The human eye just doesn’t work that way. The difference between 90 and even 120 hz is still massive.

    180hz is so oooooold schoool :P why not try an 360 or faster at least to try out. I had an 170hz 1440p monitor but downgraded to the acer nitro v2 with 390hz and it was pretty neat buuuut was not a really noticible difference for me at all. I could notice going from 120 to 170 though. Had two 240hz 1440p woleds but returned them because they have the "dirty gray" issue which makes it impossible for me to use as a daily monitor. but for gaming it felt almost like a crt, almost.
    After I returned my woleds I got an 8k mouse and it felt very similarly to how the woled felt in games, especially in cs2 it was very noticable. Would love to see how it feels using the 8k mouse with the oled but I am waiting for the 480hz ones, as 240 felt a bit restrictive in the end anyway.
    another thing I noticed, as I also have the exact same model of 6900xt(sapphire 6900xt nitro + se), what settings are u using to be at often just shy of 200fps outside? 1440p high med or low? same with cs2? shouldnt u get like almost 400fps all the time with that setup?

    It's exactly like watching your HDR record in this video, despite you didn't upload this video as HDR. If you're intent to cover this subject, I afaid you will have to be doing a lot more research than this. It's borderline misinformation at this poin.

    people often point to the ltt video with shroud to prove higher hz is better but keep forgetting shroud isnt a regular gamer. If you put yourself into a lamborghini you cant be expected to be faster than an actual racing driver in a civic

    • @BrunodeSouzaLino
      @BrunodeSouzaLino 2 месяца назад +1

      Plus it is arguable that shroud is actually benefiting from a higher refresh rate and not just a smaller input response instead. Muscular reflexes don't always correlate with eyesight, which is why racing drivers are often two or three steps ahead of their vision during a race.

    There are some quite good mini led HDR displays for around 500 dollars right now. I’d get those if you want some entry level “true” HDR displays. I used to rock the neo G7 from Samsung with something like 1100 dimming zones and the hdr was great. Use the lg oled rn, love the black levels, but the brightness is a bit subpar.

    One of the problems with new "gaming monitors" is that if you exceed the FPS of the monitor's Hz limit, it appears that the monitor does not keep up with the fluidity of the image. I have a 2006 19-inch Philips VGA 60hz monitor that can perfectly deliver 900fps with SLI from nvidia 2x 8800Ultras + Q9550@3.6Ghz in Battlefield2 1024x768 with competition settings. I did more than 6000 real hours. I tried this new high Hz trend and I think players are missing out, the screens don't keep up with the games

    Our standards keep getting higher as we get get accustomed to every performance increase. My first online shooter was Battlefield 2: Modern Combat.. on the PS2 at 10-25 fps!!!! At the time I thought it was so realistic and immersive. Lol. Now even 60 fps feels like a PS1 game if it has inconsistent frame times. ... On topic- Really high refresh rate and crisp video can feel very "realistic" even though not 3d. Also use some good headphones. I suggest playing RDR2 in first person mode (HUD/minimap stuff turned off) and just riding through the wilderness on your horse- listening to nature. It's quite cathartic. That now old game still impresses with immersion. Somebody should mod a no-enemies version of that for VR- maybe with some optimized settings/improved FSR to help keep a high refresh rate since VR requires generating two screens. Getting thrown off your horse because it saw a snake would be quite bad in VR. (when my parents were living in an elderly community.. I had thought such a game mod would be great for people that lacked mobility/had health issues that didn't allow for travelling. Allow them to have some amazing free roam travelling experiences from their home)

    Most human eyes can only track up to 90 Hz, meaning you're not gonna see much difference in 120 or 144 Hz. While some people will claim that people can track up to 500 Hz, this is only possible in specific scenarios which will never happen while you're watching a movie or playing a game.
