This is super useful episode, Ted! 🤩👍🏻I was just this weekend trying to film at night with my good old Mini 2, visiting the mountains during the full moon. For the photos it was working, but for the video, max 3200 ISO was just not enough to capture it... With mirrorless I had to go up to 32000 ISO to be able to film the train at night. I finally understand, why your time-shifting approach is so needed in the cinematography.

Great video just got into drones with the Dji Mini 2SE it's an excellent drone but the only thing it's lacking slightly is how well it does videos in low light even with manual settings, however photos in night mode on the other hand can be pretty good but for the price simply cannot complain and will eventually upgrade to one that does night vids better. In particular thinking or the DJI Fly 3 that just came out.

Excellent 👏 way to start the year, with these tip's videos, and the best way is to practice, practice and I think that one of the very important details that you mention in your video Ted, is planning.
We have to plan and develop the whole idea in the environment where the photographic and video shoots will take place, because we will simply run out of batteries and we will not achieve good material. We must not fail to mention the beautiful landscape that you selected to make this video.
A question that calls my attention a lot about your videos, is there a particular reason why you take many shots in black and white?
Do you have any video or do you plan to make one talking about techniques and recommendations for black and white shots?
    Thank you.

Awesome night shots, Ted!! WOW! you never cease to amaze me! Do you use your anti-collision light? I put one on the Mini3 Pro hoping it would make it easier for me to see the drone at night but I didn't see it at all (guess cuz it's on top of the drone)! Maybe I should try putting one on the back as well? How do you keep track of your drone at night? Perhaps your eyesight is far better than mine!!! Thanks for a bother great video!!! Happy new year Ted 🎉 I am a new subscriber due to purchasing a used DJi Mini 2. Saw some of your great videos and enjoyed your delivery 👍 I am just over 2 weeks in and have started to get to fly a little less terrified 😂 I appreciate this is an older video from you but can you set me up with low light settings to get me started please? If there is a guide or another way please let me know. I have also downloaded a free editing called Capcut which I will start to learn about. Everything I’ve always captured through phone or video is in Auto but your videos have excited me to start experimenting. I may copy my comments in to a more recent video of yours in case this is too old. Best wishes and thanks for your motivation and inspiration for my new hobby 👍

    • @TedNemeth

hey Lee! congrats on your Mini 2. I have a Mini 2 and Mini 3 Pro and I fly my Mini 2 more often. Did you watch my latest video? i talk about it.
CapCut looks really good. Simple but very capable.
I highly suggest you always record in auto exposure and auto white balance.
Turn off zebras and histogram and peaking etc.
You will always have correct exposure and you can spend the time focusing on cinematography. The only ND filter you need is an ND64.
Use that filter on bright sunny days. And no filter on cloudy days and at golden hours.
This is my recommendation to you based on my experience and testing.
This is what I do. And now spend your time focused on the only thing that matters….better cinematography and creativity.

    nice to meet you friend.
This is a very useful fix.
Both drones and cameras are considered the same information.
In the case of drones, if low-file is not supported, most of them do not have an aperture mode.
When shooting at night, you should shoot in manual mode, not auto mode, and in this case, you should fix the shutter value and use ISO appropriately.
This is a useful word to eliminate noise when shooting at night.
When shooting at night, if there is light in a specific subject and it is very dark in other areas, you can reduce noise by adjusting the exposure to the area where the light shines.
I hope to share and get more information in the future.
Please let me know more useful information in the future.
    Your new friend JDrone.

    • @TedNemeth

@@TedNemeth I live in the Philippines. While there are a few bloggers who fly at night (and I'm pretty sure they don't have permission to do so), it's still something that a drone operator can be prosecuted for.

Just had my first night flight edited ( ruclips.net/video/CQG9__EC6nc/видео.html ) and could have used your valuable tips.
I will keep them in mind for the next time!

Dude, half of the video is not even night footage and some ads. This "time shift" - It's cheating. I knew it was a day shot the second I saw it. And overexposing your shots are such a horseshit. Every photographer will tell you to underexpose to protect your highlights and yes they still matter at night shots. If you're changing your exposure just by ISO, it doesn't matter if you do it on the field or post. Do your research, do better...

hey man. thanks for watching. So let me get this straight…..you think there is ONLY ONE correct technique / opinion in photography & filmmaking? Ha! If you put 50 of the top cinematographers in a room to talk about technique and what is correct & incorrect…..they will probably be throwing chairs at each other pretty quickly. 50 experts = 50 different opinions on the creative process & workflow to achieve their creative vision. This is MY channel where I share MY experiences and MY workflow so others can try it if they want.
YOU SAID: “every photographer will tell you to underexpose to protect your highlights.”. WHAT?! Literally 100% wrong. Since when do YOU get to speak on behalf of “every photographer.”? Did this FACT ever occur to you: some photographers expose for the subject, regardless of the shadows & highlights. You should “do your research and do better.”
