    I always get a compass calibration required when I try to fly at night due to "low light environment". I discovered tonight though if you point the camera of the drone into the lights of your car the calibration requirement goes off and "take off is permitted". Kind of a quick hack I thought I would share

    With all the many improvements of the Mini 2 people are now wondering which drone should I get the Mini 2 or the Mavic Air 2. I think it would be useful for potential customers to fully understand what the "practical advantages" are of the MA2 over the M2 so that they could fully assess whether the MA2 is worth the extra money given their intended uses for the quad.
    By "practical advantages" I mean more than just a "surface/technical level" comparison of features (i.e., MA2 has active tracking and M2 doesn't, the M2 has a 1/2.3 vs 1/2" sensor, etc) but instead explain how said feature/spec might improve/simplify certain shots thus giving the user a better understanding of the "practical" benefits of a feature/spec that they may be foregoing if they went with the M2 instead of the MA2.
    For example, explain how Active Track/Spot Light feature could be used to get video of a moving sailboat while simultaneously circling the boat. Technically you could could accomplish the same thing with the M2 but show how doing it manually would be significantly harder to do.
    Show the benefits of the larger sensor on the MA2 vs M2 by doing side by side videos of a sunset or side by side comparisons of night flight videos, etc. Hopefully you get my gist. Maybe a Top 5/10 advantages of the MA2 vs the M2 with real life uses cases like I described above. Just a thought.

      I agree that this would be very helpful?
      I am exactly at that point in my decision process. Which one is the better choice???
      I am a total novice and never had a drone, but know that i want to film myself riding a motorbike or using the drone for my vlog somehow.
      It’s a once only purchase and I hate to be disappointed and wasted my money by making the wrong choice.
      A “how to” for both drones video would be really good.
      Better still would be...how can you utilize a drone for a vlog most effectively 😬🥴🤷‍♂️
      This might seem a silly question but that’s why I am here...to figure things out bit by bit....finding the right answers though is very hard if you got no first hand idea about drones at all.

    Thanks for the vid! Residential areas are always poor to film at night because of the low density of lights. A city view would really show the camera's capability. Appreciate the glimpse at the new Mini 2. I have one on order because of the reduced regulations for the sub-250 gram drones, and this camera is now competing with those of some of the higher end drones. I already have the Mavic 2 Pro, the Evo 2 Pro, Mavic Mini, and a few others, but flying restrictions just keep piling up.

    Hi Ash, great video on the night flying capabilities of the Mini 2! A couple of questions. Did you have to maintain VLOS the entire time you were flying? Hard for me to imagine that the neighbour’s roofline didn’t get in the way. Lastly, is there any way of turning OFF the Mini 2’s flight light beacon? Sometimes we have would be burglars casing our neighbourhood & I wanted to track them without attracting them to the drone, don’t know if the Mini 2’s props were audible at the height you were flying.

    HI!
    I always fly over the bay at Miami Beach, FL. There is a way to set a "LOW TERRAIN, LOW ALTITUDE WARNING" on the Mavic mini2 or Air 2.
    I get very distracted and lost all altitude while moving the left joystick to rotate the drone. A "low altitude warning" would be life-saving for my drone. I could set it to any altitude I the warning to be activated. The idea is to increase altitude if I get below, e.g., 5 or 10 meters. Then prevent it from crashing into the water. I already lost the Mavic mini and the Mavic 2. I can't retrieve them from the bay floor. I am afraid to buy a new one and make the same mistake.

      No absolutely not, with RTH you have no control of the drone, and at night drones such as the Mini 2 have no obstacle avoidance and so RTH will have no capability to avoid anything in it's path. RTH should ONLY ever be used for emergencies, it should not be used for routine flying because it breeds laziness and incompetence.

    Good video and I have also wondered about night flying with it. Its actually pretty impressive at night for what it is. I had the Spark, the Mavic Air, and the Mavic2Pro and also the Zoom lens for it. This little Mini 2 is leading edge technology, and has surprised me in every way. It will even fly further than my M2P, which is a shock. The still photos are now in RAW and JPEG, so you can do AEB and get really marvelous photos with Lightroom. I'm on day 4 with mine, and just amazed that such a tiny drone can get pretty close to the Mavic 2 Pro. Definitely a grab and go with the same flight time as the M2P and maybe even a tiny bit more range and battery time. DJI is wake up call to America. We have become a consumer nation and have lost our edge to China. And thanks to DJT, we are now years behind modern technology and renewable energy, and the future is already here, but its IN CHINA. Now that we have dumped him in a major election backlash against the GOP backsliders, hopefully we will catch up and become innovators again, but China is ten years ahead of us already. God Bless DJI. And God bless the USA in its recovery from 4 years of incredible cultism and destruction of environment and technology by worshippers of money and hypocrisy.

      Yes it's really impressive, especially considering the tiny sensor. Thanks for the comment!

    Would you recommend the mini 2 regular or mavic mini 1 fly more combo?

      Get the mini 2, although three batteries is nice, 4K, occusync as well as more efficient and wind resistant motors are worth it. Plus it should be a bit cheaper as well at retail prices.

      Everyone recommended buying the Fly More Combo as you get a better deal that way...rather then later adding things individually- Personally and from a financial aspect, I would definitely buy the Mini 2 Fly more combo 👍

    Do you have to buy an insurance or it's up to the user with this drone?

      No it depends on the country in which you're flying, it's a good idea for sure. Thanks for the comment!

    Batteries can be quite temperature sensitive, they won't be as good in cold weather. Also, it's I.S.O (eye ess oh), it's an acronym, not a word ;)

    How do you fly at night ? My Mini 1 refuses to fly at low light. Do you have any idea ?.

      @Droning-ON  3 года назад

      It will give you warnings if you haven't acquired enough satellites, also if your VPS sensor can't detect the ground. But as you saw in this demonstration, no issue after it had acquired GPS. Thanks for the comment!

    You say a few times in the video that it has a quarter inch sensor but I think that is incorrect :) It has a sensor that is just a tad smaller than a half inch sensor. The size is 1/2.3 of an inch. At least according to DJI.

    • @Droning-ON
      @Droning-ON  3 года назад +1

      Actually, the utilisation of 'inches' in the camera space is quite confusing as it doesn't actually refer directly to the sensor size. 1/2.3-inch is referred to as 'quarter' inch because the sensor area is approximately 1/4 the sensor surface of a 1" sensor. But neither really reflect an actual inch measurement. Hope that this helps!

      @@Droning-ON Thanks. And yes that helps...I dont like that they are actually allowed to use that kind of tricky marketing though. I am very new to Video/droning, but have a lot of years in photography (both with analog and digital cameras) so I automatically expect it will be the same. No matter the explanation about how they get away with this I will still personally call it fraud. I am getting the Mini 2 anyway though. Thanks for the response.

      Yes agreed, this "inch" terminology really needs scrapping as it's long out of date. Apparently it's origins are in the measurement of the camera tunnel size and not actually the sensor itself. Thanks for the comments!
