    Parker Valby is the best at the 5000m, 14:52. Valby is much better than everyone else.

    • @annasdad8008
      @annasdad8008 3 месяца назад

      Not everyone, not by a long shot. Her personal best (14:52.79) is a hair slower than the Olympic qualifying time of 14:52 flat. There are several elite US women who have met that mark and are quite a bit faster than her. Ethiopian Gudaf Tsegay’s world record is 14:00.21.
      I’d am sure she will get an invitation to the trials in both the 5,000 and 10,000, but making the team is another matter. She a gifted athlete and may very well may get there in the future but she is not currently a threat to the elite runners in the US much less those ar the top in the world rankings.

      @@annasdad8008 Valby is #37 in the world this year and #5 in the US. Puts it in perspective and will be interesting to see how she does competing against elite/senior women and how that pushes her.

    • @annasdad8008
      @annasdad8008 3 месяца назад

      @@yjk5737 That’s an early season ranking. Collegiate runners are always ranked artificially higher in the first half of the year because their season is much earlier than that for the elite runners. If you look at the qualifying times of elite US runners you will see how unrealistic those rankings are. It’s like the Tuohy fans who kept insisting she would “just run faster” and make the team for worlds in 2022. I told them the 5000 was between 5 women, or more accurately Karissa Schweizer plus 4 others running for the other two spots. In the finals Schweizer simply ran fast enough to stay near the front then took off with 800 to go. One of the other 4 had a bad day but the three others ended up 2,3,4 and then there was a gap between them and the rest of the field. Tuohy was back in the middle of the field. This year the distance races at the trials are again really between a small number of athletes. Valby is definitely a gifted collegiate athlete, and she absolutely could become one of the top elite US women in the future, but she’s not there yet. There is a long history in the US of gifted collegiate distance runners who did well in college but seemed to vanish when they went to the next level. Maybe something miraculous will happen at the Olympic Trials later this month. While I don’t expect it that is why the trials are held. She still would need to meet the Olympic Standard even if she wins her event at the trials or she would not be on the team (the first three finishers WHO HAVE MET THE STANDARD make the team.)
      As for International competition, that’s a whole different level yet again. While there have been a tiny handful of exceptional individuals the US has otherwise been rather notoriously weak at distance events. There are a small number of men and women who look to potentially be on the cusp of a breakthrough, but for now we can only wait and see. I do look forward to both the US Trials (June 21 - June 30) and the Olympics (opening ceremony July 26, track and field August 1 - August 11)

      She may well be the best American female collegiate runner, but the moment we consider the Ethiopian and Kenyan runners, that changes. I think she's great. Love her attitude, but I also know what she's up against when she starts running against the best in the world. Still with Tuohy out there and Valby coming along, we have an outside chance in either the 5K or 10K in Los Angeles in 2028.

      Not even remotely the “greatest of all time”. There is a long list of very accomplished women distance runners who are way ahead of her on the list of greatest. Valby has yet to run times that would even keep her close to the international elites much less be competitive against them. She may very well get there in the future but calling her “the greatest” at this point is laughable.
