Sending an Attractive Lookalike to My High School Reunion

- Опубликовано: 23 апр 2024
- Like many of us, Stephen didn’t have a good time at high school. He played saxophone in the band, got bullied and struggled a little. Having graduated ten years ago, he hasn’t seen any of his former classmates since. Now his high school reunion is coming up and he wants to settle some scores. So he enlisted the help of VICE's Oobah Butler via his app, Oobah.
In the wake of sending doubles of himself to collect awards and be interviewed by media outlets around the world, Oobah auditioned lookalikes and sent a hotter, more successful but fake version of Stephen to attend his high school reunion to reinvent his image in front of his old classmates.
But can he get away with it?

i feel bad for the actor. he wasn't given enough details about the man's history and his relationship with his classmates. his haircut was half assed. He didnt even get a microphone/spy camera so that the van team could give cues on what to say. i felt like the idea of this documentary was to make the client gain some self worth by making the fake dude look bad but the execution was poor. the producer guy is extremely unprofessional and lazy because of this. i hope the actor was paid well for this crappy gig.
Honestly.
Yeah it was awful how he was left with NOTHING to work with and just kept saying "I'm Stephen"... it was horrible!

it was so painful and awkward to watch when the fake Stephen started getting denied of his identity and played the guitar, but it was really heartwarming to see people remember him and want to talk to the real version of him. and it was really brave of Stephen to go in and meet his people. amazing video.
Only part of the video i skipped was the guitar solo. I was too uncomfortable to watch.
Yeah, that was a mistake, the gig was up. That was the perfect moment to swagger in like "'sup bitches, had you going good, didn't I?"
If they took the extra step and made a fake ID for the actor, I wonder if that would have shut everyone up?
It's hilarious to see how the popular guy still carried that confidence with him all those years

Just wait until you get out of your 20s and 30s. I am 47 and all the friends on Facebook who I went to high school with have only gotten kinder and more caring. Even if we weren't really friends but just classmates, they have become something else, even from afar. People continue to go through their own hardships in life and care less about accomplishments. By 40, you've usually achieved something and realize it doesn't really matter or make you more worthy as a person. What matters is how loving you are. I have a classmate who has schizophrenia. He makes these odd Facebook posts but people are still there, watching him, caring about him and occasionally interacting. He's handsome, brilliant and a sweet soul underneath it all, just struggling with a mental illness. Another girl died from cancer a few months ago. She seemed troubled up until the end, but was the cool, edgy girl in high school and even if she seemed a little lost, everyone cared about her. As long as you are kind and sincere, that's all most people care about. We were all kids together once and wherever life takes us, there is a part of everyone that knows we are all the same inside.
Thanks for the telling this bruv
It actually is really cute that the girl he had a crush on was the first one to realise it wasn't him.

That was an amazing to see this perspective. As we grow up we become more sensible and self-aware, we treasure moments we spent in high school and people for who they were, we just appreciate that someone existed in our lives.
The only person that is "inexistent" imo is the transfer student that came in and stayed for 1 month before leaving, just because that wasn't enough time to make memories
When you see yourself as unsuccessful, it is because you saw only people's good moments on social media and thinking everyone else is happy and successful
This was recommended to me so many times when it first came out that I didn't bother watching it. But after watching it now, I'm so happy I did. My 10 year high school reunion is 2 years from now and I wasn't sure if I wanted to go or not. But after seeing what happened to Stephen and how similar his high school experience was to mine and that it all turned out well, I think I might go now. And I'm glad Stephen faced his fears here. This is a perfect example of failing but learning what you really needed to know all along.
embarrassed by something that happened 15 years ago
only solution: do something 10x more embarrassing to make people forget the other thing
😂 😂 😂 😂 This is underrated
i was very insecure myself if I would go to my homecoming. did what you're saying; i joined the homecoming dance presentation and had mild success. let's just say it became a conversation piece that i could take rather than the typical set of questions I had no confident answers for - marriage, career, family.
That is like, the story of my life.
Yep
Or get into a highly respected medical profession... Oh wait a sec.
Goes to show there’s nothing more embarrassing than not being yourself
true
Yep I feel a lot of 2nd hand embarrassment.
I don’t know if it’s weird or not that he wanted to do this
more like the duplicate of Stephan did a horrible job at being Stephan and being better than Stephan.
The cringe of his clone blew me away.
Hmmm talk to these people Ryan
I'm so glad he eventually went inside! Way to go Stephen!
When you victimize and criticize yourself too much you feel same or even worse kind of thoughts must be in other's mind for you. I have been there, and I feel it takes only little courage to go and face it and turns out most of the times you will find that they think of you better than you think they do. Little courage and whole world seem more kind. ♥
Give that lookalike a medal... how nerve wracking it must have been to walk into that room, and then keep lying when people keep calling you out!
exactly! my nerves would have been SHOT! That dude put on his big boy pants and powered thru somehow and got his part of the job done! overall, i liked this video a lot!
The guy was paid to do it so he probably didn't really care. People ask questions? Just answer them the best you can and if they still don't believe you, oh well, move on with the party.
See for me that would be fun. I’d see it like a game. At first would be awkward though but if you’re an outgoing sales guy like me it’s easy to ge everyone circled around you I would have a blast doing that.
Although you’d have to pay me a lot of money to get shirtless while mindlessly strumming guitar after telling everyone I played for maroon 5. Oof
Bro he doesnt know anyone there and they boosted his confidence i would of killed it too
if anything its easier because all the people there are strangers and you will never meet them again so who cares ? you also aren't gona die so nothing bad can happen.
Shocker that the “popular guy” still looks like he’s in high school haha
@DR PHILtypically a man peaks in his 35 45 only women peak before 30
@@GudJonnyCakes you do know that’s extremely sexist right? A woman does not have an expiration date. And honestly old balls and beer belly’s aren’t sexy at all, at least to me.
@@vivigoesusa old balls and beer bellies?! 😂😂 not too keen on hair sprouting from.ears and noses either, or just as bad-hairy backs!
@@vivigoesusa or even worse, when those old sagging balls are covered in grey pubes!
@@GudJonnyCakes yeah just convince yourself that buddy your “peak” will never come
An amazing video, love.
Jesus...didn't know people cared about their reunions this much. I've never been but it isn't because of some traumatic high school experience. I just never saw the point. People I am/was friends with I've kept in touch with and people I am not/wasn't, I don't see why I'd want to talk to them.
I think it's because high school is basically your whole adolescence. So people usually make a lot of memories during those formative years and want to feel a sense of nostalgia when they see former classmates again.
The level of confidence it takes to say "you're not him" to someone you haven't seen since highschool
If you saw them almost every day for several years their face would be burned into your memory for the rest of your life. It's weird to think that if you're in your 20's or early 30's you've probably spent more time with your classmates than anyone else outside of your family.
@@internaught1227 Very good point, but I'm only in my 20s and I've seen old classmates from highschool (even those I considered good friends) who I did not recognize, because they changed so much. I'd never feel that comfortable to just flat out say You're not Kevin from like 7th grade, unless we used to be best friends and I saw you at least a few years ago. Maybe people are brave I guess lol
@@LifefulLife well she knew that she was his crush so probably she was comfortable enough to say something like that coz even if she makes mistake, you won't be angry because she is your ex crush
I don't forget faces so it wouldn't work on me, but yea I agree
@@theadoxinho She had no idea he liked her
They didn't think this through. The imposter needs an earpiece so Stephen can relay him real answers to his friends' question.
Smart guy on the comment section
Right
Yeah I totally agree
AMOGUS IMPOSTER SUS BAKA
Well yeah they didn't simply send Stephen
nothing more attractive than a down to earth kind hearted man, which Stephen seems to be. Those are the types you spend the rest of your life with
Ikr! But unfortunately the bullies in society always see these as the easiest targets to take advantage of. That's why most people are either, down to Earth and assertive/aggressive, or "nice" but uptight. Being down to Earth and kind-hearted is being an angel and unfortunately angels are not always treated well here.
Would you marry a dude that looks like him?
This made me cry. I love you stephen ❤
The fact that no one believes he is the real Steven shows that humans are incredibly good at recognizing faces lol
Yeah exactly even if he knew all the answers they’d not have believed him.
That’s so weird because I genuinely think I wouldn’t recognize people from high school
yep. Faces are easier to remember than names, especially if you've seen those faces repeatedly.
@@ceciliaw1065 same. Most of the people from highschool I wouldn't know.
There is a woman on Facebook who extended a friend invitation to me a couple years ago. We have two or three dozen mutual friends from high school. But I can’t for the life of me remember anything about her. I would have believed the lookalike Steve.
He should put a earpiece in so he could talk to his look a like. They fuckt this prank up.
YESSS!
Was thinking the same! LOL Like they made an APP for all of this "sending a lookalike to an event" yet they missed out on a wee little ear piece. LOL funny!
But in the end, it worked out for the better of everyone.
Ear piece would’ve been great.
@@nikitagorkovets4336 YES it really did didn't it? It's like HE saved the day for the fake version of him. He rescued HIM instead!!! LOL itt was like one of those happy ending movies where the undergog gets the golden biscuit. He is sooo nice too though. And sweet. Anyway. LOL cheeers
@@starsackaney4996 maybe they won’t forget next time
I found myself repeatedly hitting the pause button as I experienced an overwhelming sense of nervousness and cringiness while watching the scenes with the doppelganger at the school reunion. The awkwardness and discomfort were just too much to handle at times! 😅
During my last years in highschool and graduation, my general appearance changed a lot. Long hair, short hair, weight loss, gain. I was so very familiar with people saying "i almost didn't recognize you, you look so different." It's weird because I got used to it, now I feel vulnerable when I'm recognized.
the real steven is a dentist who has a passion and talent for music, a whacky sense of humor, a great relationship with his parents (!) and overall seems like a real genuine guy, I think he's doing well for himself! I wish him the best.
Yeah steven’s a beast, doing everything right
I agree. The dudes got it going on and should be aware that he's pimpin while the dudes that were cool and bullied him are probably struggling and dealing with many internal demons inside. Not to make fun of them either. I think it's pathetic when bullied people grow up and have power trips to get back at the bullies who are now struggling
Yeah, he said he was a dentist in his hometown and I don't think that is bad.
plus he has a really nice face, he doesnt give himself enough credit
@@littlenassyecks8462 well I don’t know about all of that
I wish he had an earpiece feeding him answers when he was talking to people, like in all the movies!!
Yeah.. that would of been better. .. instead of letting the actor hanging.
That’s exactly what I was thinking
@@zachary_smith1 It made *PERFECT SENSE* on *WHY* they only showed us his *FIRST* name.
He was *WAAAAAAAAAAY TOO* embarrassed to put his name out there.

They do that in impractical jokers
