Samantha Bush went from 40th place at 5K to 15th at the finish. (A 25 point pickup and State wins 114-140 which is 26 points) What a last kilometer she had. Chmiel took 3rd and we all know what Tuohy did.... Great job Ladies!!! National Champs!!!!!!
Even their #5 finisher, redshirt freshman Brooke Rauber (another New York phenom) picked up 15 places over the last km. And their #4, Nevada Moreno, had the best race of her collegiate career by far.

Katelyn is a beast, and Kelsey Chmiel is a pit bull, tough as nails and a fighter every step of the way. What an amazing duo. Watched them battle each other in NYS XC championships so it's very cool to watch them reach the top together.

Katelyn ran her race with discipline and this resulted in her winning the race. She was in control the entire time and it made the end of the race look easy for her. Congratulations!!!
She's not superhuman. She said herself she eased up with a lead at the end because she was hurting. She's in pain running a race like this, just like everyone else is. She's just better.

NYS cross country runners shine, Katelyn, Kelsey, and Brooke something that does not happen often at the college level. NYS high school girls teams have won all but one Nike cross country title and yet they have not fared as well in college. Nice to see them doing well.

Gotta love Tuohy. I heard the announcers say the young lady that came in second says she doesn't have a good kick. I hope this doesn't get me yelled at but why in blazes is that not a focus for "maga" improvement. Don't accept you don't have a good kick. Meet the challenge. Change it. I'm sure they are working on it.....I hope.
You don’t think a top D1-level runner isn’t “working on it?” Even some Olympic runners have better kicks than others. They work on it but others are better; that’s how sports works sometimes.
I've never seen a course like this. This is the Los Angeles Freeway of Cross-Country courses! Back To Kate. I liken her physical conditioning to Ellie Purrier-St Pierre. Getting up at 4:30 AM and milking the cows, feeding the hogs, shower, go to school, then after school practice. Elle simply overpowers you on the track. I don't know what Kate does, but she has all the brute strength she needs.
