    Tremendous race for Parker Valby! She leverages her strengths--anyone who beats her must earn it. Also, Doris Lemngole is a great talent. Next year could be her turn. Tough day for Tuohy, but she'll have better days, no doubt. Also, NC State does the unbelievable and wins the title without their #2 runner. Tuohy's 5th place was crucial to the team's success.

      As confirmed by Coach Henes after the race (in the post-race interview on the Let's Run RUclips channel), Katelyn Tuohy was sick. And Tuohy had to go to the medical tent right after the race. I firmly believe that if Tuohy was not sick, it would have been another very close battle for the individual title.

    I feel bad for Tuohy as I think some in the media and some fans want to see someone just keep winning and put the athlete on a pedestal. Then when they fall short in some races then the criticism starts. Remember, or research Jim Ryun, a great high school runner who was on a collision course to Olympic gold but managed to get silver. He was roasted by media and fans. He did have a long list of world record runs so he did not deserve the abuse. I hope Tuohy runs to satisfy herself and not for the media or fickle fans. She must be learning from the losses as well as the wins so I suspect she will be training hard for 2024.

    Only chance to beat Valby would have been to take the risk of staying right beside her for about 2K and maybe get Valby to tighten up with nervousness. It is a strategy used by runners back in the 70s when they faced a front runner like Dave Bedford. Bedford would get agitated if he did not get a big lead and it cost him a lot of energy. I will not even knock Tuohy, as by now she knows that Valby will try and get a huge lead and hang on. I read that Tuohy was under the weather so I just respect her 5th place as gutsy. I dont know if these two will ever meet in CC again but I suspect Tuohy would not let Valby get a big lead again. Kudos to Valby for carrying out her strategy and being able to hang on to her lead.

    Parker Valby ran a great races. NC State has great morale in order to cover the loss of Kelsey and win the Championship. Smart coaches will interview Parker Valby and her coach bc they showed you can run lower average miles per week and win at the National level. Will Parker return? Will Katlyn change plans and run one or two more years at NC State. Doris & Hilda are now the ones to watch.
    Parker and Katlyn made the season exciting. Great year !!!!

    anyone know if Tuohy will still be competing in college track in 2024 ? I would wonder if she would have to focus on making the Olympics being that she is 21 and she runs risk of peaking as a runner prior to 2028. I guess she would still have the World Championships to compete.

    • @BayAreaMusicLens
      @BayAreaMusicLens 6 месяцев назад

      front running can only be pulled off by a superior runner normally. But I suppose cross country is different than the track. in CC a smart runner like Valby speeds up on the downhills and slowly adds to her lead, and also at certain points in CC the lead runner is out of view of the other runners and that is another chance to increase the pace and other runners are not aware. on the track this is not as easy, as the trailing runners can monitor the lead runner. I think Tuohy will have to develop other tactics to handle Valby and if she doesnt other runners will copy Valby but they have to be pretty elite runners. both Valby and Tuohy have yet to tackle the international runners so all bets are off when that happens. add to all that, its possible Tuohy is spreading herself to thin by trying many distances, I am guessing she might just pick one distance and save energy. Once again, only superior runners can double up in the 1500/5K or 5K/10K.

    I don't mean to be negative, but did anyone else notice what happened to BYU in this race? They were in first place at the 1k and 2k splits, third place at the 3k and 4k splits, 5th place at the 5k split, and finished in 14th place. Is there a lesson here? Did they go out WAY too fast and die? It was one of the more shocking things I've seen in one of these nationals, especially considering BYU's pedigree and their third place national ranking. Seemed that the announcers totally overlooked it.

    • @BayAreaMusicLens
      @BayAreaMusicLens 6 месяцев назад +1

      maybe your guess is correct, and also I noticed the course was hilly and I think the later stage of the race was a hill and maybe the team did not study the course ahead ot time and ran strategically poor races. Also the announcers mentioned that the early pace was very fast. I heard Valby ran the course the day before and probably made note of key areas to use to her advantage. Just a guess
