- Gave the turbo Miata some more top end power and a better idle. This is a mod that any person with some type of mechanical inclement can go, and its cheap if you rip one out of a junkyard.

I have done this mod. My initial attempt included drilling a hole in the cam gear to supposedly set the cam timing. I had very low power but the engine started and ran. I knew something wasn’t right so I rechecked the intake cam position. I had apparently misunderstood the instructions. I reassembled with the intake cam at 180 degrees + 3 teeth counterclockwise. This did the trick but my idle is pretty lopey. It runs well and pulls strongly though so I am happy. It’s a bit better than stock but not a lot. Mine is an NA BP in a Protege, by the way. Nice video! Thanks for sharing!
Dave I’m looking to do this for the lopey idle and the power gains. Where exactly did you drill? I’m doing this in an na 1.8 94 miata.
That was to 80 . Haha nice vid
So was this video done after a tune/re-ture or just right after the cam swap with no other adjustments?
Troy Sebo we did no adjustments right after the cam swap to the tune
My stock miata is faster 😭 after a couple years the cam will snap happend to a lot of people. Just rebuild the motor to maybe a 1.9 or throw a k20 in and turbo that because the turbo miata still wont beat a stock k20 🤣
Did it snap at the gear? At the new drilled hole? I want to do this and haven’t seen any fails yet on miata.net
Can you please send a buying link? And do you think that will increase the power of the NA1.8? TNX bro and nice video!
you get your cam from ebay or a junkyard ... the instructions are on the net
How did you get the pops at shifting ?m
upload more videos
Did you have to recheck the timing with a timing gun or anything?
you have to redo the cam timing using the offset ...its not beginner stuff but not advanced if youve done a timing belt
What year is your miata and from what year did you take the exhaust cam from?
Jonathan Chen it's a 94 and the cam was from another 94 1.8l head
Thanks!
so if i'm correct, you now have 2 exhaust cams in 1 engine.
is this also possible with a 1.6?
Yes, technically this is possible with a 1.6, so long as you use the exhaust cam out of a 1994-1995 mx3, as they have the CAS on the exhaust side, whereas the miata has it on the intake side, so they are interchangeable.
@@obahex we did a similar mod to a 1.8 liter and crammed it into a festiva
What was the overall cost?
Tyson Allgaier if you have to buy the camshaft it will be around $150 but if you have the camshaft And the tools to do it such as a drill and angle grinder , all you would need to buy is the valve cover gasket and the RTV
Brz Rage awesome thanks
