Considering a Vary bonnet for this at the moment, I've been trying to keep a stock-ish exterior and a slight fender/arch pull instead of widebody but some functional exterior additions are something I'm considering (like the Zoom headlight vent I added recently). Carbs are amazing, a little more continual maintenance needed than efi based ITBs but sound so, so good.

It had M2-1001 cams (or infact M2 1001 had Mazdaspeed cams), fully Mazdaspeed build engine and Maximworks full, Mazdaspeed branded exhaust and 8000rpm revlimiter. Looking at the video takes me back good 15 years to the days when I made the greatest soundtrack of our lives :D
Hi love the car it’s a credit to you. Interested in your opinion on running ITBs with exposed intake trumpets and no filter ? I have a 93 1.6 running Jenvey throttle bodies and Jenvey foam sausage filter. They look great but it can’t do the engine much good long term sucking in all that dust dirt grit etc.
I tend to run open trumpets on track but mostly a filter for road driving, especially in non perfect weather as the headlight vent has a direct path to the stacks so stones etc have a small chance of getting in. That said, I know people who have done many, many miles filterless without issue, I would imagine most of the road dust and fine organic matter simply gets burnt up in combustion process without issue its not like you are shoving handfuls of sand down the stacks so I woudn't worry too much. 🤞🏻
The Subaru fulfils my turbo needs, in an ideal world i'd have 2 Roadsters one low boost ,comfy, slammed turbo for cruising around and this one for being a hooligan.
Ugh incredible roadster man i drooled all over this 🫠 do you know how much of a deep dish your nardi is and what diameter? Having rubbing issues with my wooden 350mm nardi that came off a eunos and i don’t wanna downgrade to anything less of bad ass so i wanna go for a smaller nardi and possibly a deep dish? Is that the standard nardi boss or something shorter/extended?
In someways if you are starting from scratch it can be expensive but I've owned the car for a long time and the costs have been spread out over time. I do all of the work on the car myself which saves a huge amount as opposed to paying someone to fit and tune everything. I'm certainly not Porsche money into this car yet, my only regret would be not buying a 964 when they were still affordable but that was well before the I had the Roadster.
how much HP did you get out of that 1.6? because i think of wapping my 1.6 to an 1.8 first and then do all the work to it? Would you recommend to stay 1.6? i know they are a bit mor fruity and reving but lacking in power i've heard. My 1.6 115hp is ok most people say swap for an 1.8. Its like 1-2k extra kost but is a jump start to 130hp. :D would love to hear your opinion on this :)
I haven't yet dyno'd it, the ecu is road and track tuned but would probably benefit from some dyno time when I get round to it though. At best without touching the block 100hp per liter is usually possible on a 1.6, as I've done this gradually over time the parts crossover from 1.6 to 1.8 is not possible so I'd have to start over which is quite the expense. If you are starting from scratch and looking specifically for power then I'd advise the 1.8 VVT. I just really like my original engine and how it responds/sounds, had the car for 10 years and done about 67,000km in it myself with 220k on the clocks, even when I finally overhaul the block I'll keep the 1.6 but use new pistons etc. It goes well enough even if it has half the hp the Subaru has 😅.
I love miatas had like 4 to 5 na honestly the only thing I hate about them is they break alot been threw engines and transmission and a few diffs love these cars but hate fixing them over and over probably sell the one I have now soon
Damn, thats such a shame. This has 220kms on it at the moment, original stock block and transmission and its been driven like the video demonstrates both on track and the road. I'm under no illusion it will last forever but I've found it really reliable and easy to work on so far due to space/access/design. I think once you go turbo and put too much boost down low it does have a habit of eating transmissions and the risk of engine issues. Its one of the other reasons I stayed NA on this, just so much lighter on the car (still using a 1.6 clutch too). I have now fitted a Torsen 4.3:1 with the larger ring gear/diff though.
I ran this car as a daily for 4 years as my only car at the time, I would have no problem doing the same now if it wasn't for the state of the roads and size of speed humps so I'm a bit more selective where I drive it. Its done 8000km since the ITBs in the last year and a half. I tend to avoid driving it during the winter months or when theres salt on the road as I want it to last many years. 300hp Subaru Forester STI on Ce28N and coilovers is my daily driver ✌🏻
