Chris Rea has never done a US tour; he say's he's famous enough. Great music!!!
Unfortunately he's very ill now, and doesn't tour over here in the UK.
Is that true he never toured the us. I remember this song in the Charlie sheen movie beyond the law. Awesome biker movie
@@nuge1717 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Rea#:~:text=Rea%20has%20never%20toured%20the,Best%20New%20Artist%20in%201978.
@@nuge1717love that movie 🔥
Chris Rea a phenomenal guitarist and song writer from the North East of England, he has battled serious illness to continue to perform and produce his music, I've been lucky to see him live several times and he is just brilliant.
So underrated, as you say a phenomenal artist...up there with the best !!
He survived Pancreatitis. Thank God.
@@xScooterAZx Pancreatic cancer which is a major killer, two of my uncles died from it, he has also had a stroke and covid.
@@RushfanUK Im sorry to hear that about your uncles. I'm just glad Chris is still around.
This ain't no technological breakdown... love that line ..
Chris Rea is the genius from Middlesbrough in Northern England. His voice is pure smog monster.
Bob Mortimer (also from Middlesbrough) tells one of his stories on Would I Lie to You about Chris Rea putting an egg in his bath - utterly hilarious.
“Fool If You Think It’s Over” was his biggest hit, and “On The Beach” is another very good one by him.
One word❤ Class❤
Also love TEXAS
Also Josephine another great song of his.
I totally forgot about that one, I streamed it yesterday and it brought back so many memories! “Driving Home For Christmas” is part of my holiday play list.
@@edwardt1941 What??? 😉😉😉
I love the way the lady is getting into it.
She shows true enjoyment.
Amber is always great!
Chris wrote this plays lead guitar and lead singer. He has one heck of a back catalogue. He so underrated writer and has to be one of the top guitarists in the world and that voice is haunting. In the last few years he has overcome cancer several times and he is still out onstage doing his thing. He won’t be beaten and this was written when he was stationary on the m25 circular around london uk
Definitely underrated
@@leslieankers1886definitely
And is his view of the M25 Motorway !!
Inspired to write this after getting stuck in a traffic jam for several hours on the M25 outside London, I’m so glad you covered the whole song including the beautiful bluesy opening. Gotta say guys I’ve watched tons of your reactions and this for me is your best! If you wanna carry on down the Chris Rea rabbit hole then I’d highly recommend Looking for a Rainbow. Or being Americans the track Texas might hit the right note. For the record Mr Rea is the best slide guitarist I’ve seen live. He was simply amazing.
Thanks for saving me from having to point this out
I have been stuck on the M25 multiple times. It's the motorway that circles London. It can be an absolute nightmare. The road to hell is a perfect description.
On the rocky slide, Johnny Winter is on the top for me. Would have loved to have this man live.
Tha whole album is phenominal. How could he have gone wrong being produced by Jim Steinmam.
Not true.
1989. Bought this on Tape. Played it to death. It wore out. The entire album of the same name is incredible. Chris Rea is from Middlesbrough in North East England. He’s not only a great songwriter but great painter too.
I heard he runs nakid along seaton carew beach at 5.33am every day!
I bought this on tape in 89 it was definitely the sound of my summer 🏝️
almost as good as malcomflibbleghast...made me homesick
Eric Burden is a NE boy. Both have wonderful voices.
Part || was the hitsong. Amazing on its own,
But along with part | you can honestly say it is one of the best songs ever written.❤
His main song is Fool If You Think It's Over. Great tune.
Main song ?? What the !
It was only his main song if you're American. His proper career began after that.
@@debnbhuy Well, it was his only top 40 hit in America. I'm sure he sold more records from that hit than any other.
Chris didn't agree. He felt that he sold out, and in later years has refused to perform it live
No its not lol
" Stainsby Girls." and " Fool if You Think It's Over." are songs that further highlight Chris Rhea's talent.
I am ex Stainsby girl..it was a school in Middlesbrough, now called Acklam Grange
@@sharonwelsh8102 Awesome! Stainsby Girls is my favourite Chris Rea song - although I love them all. Jay and Amber - this is REAL music! Chris is a fabulous guitarist, vocalist and songwriter. We need lots, lots more. "Candles" is a beautiful song as well.
@@sharonwelsh8102 At last !! Iv'e discovered what ( or is ) a Stainsby Girl is !
@Joanne Cunliffe his family used to have cafes in Middlesbrough
@@sharonwelsh8102 Wow! never knew and I have relatives in Middleborough area as well.
Man, the first time I heard this back in the 90's, sent chills up and down my spine! The whole, Road to Hell album is fire. It's a mood setter for sure.
I love road to hell part 2 from 1999.
Definately, Road to Hell is a album every enthusiast should own!
From the same album, you have to hear "Texas". I was working in radio when it came out, very few had heard of Chris and the request lines went crazy.
Texas is my favorite.
He has a different song titled "Texas" on his Water Sign album. Two songs with the same title. He can do that....he's Chris Rea.
“Texas” is a great “ Driving Song”. When you cross the Red River headed to Dallas or Houston, adjust cruise control to 85 and hit PLAY.
TEXAS was going to be my suggestion too.
Oh yes Texas, that’s a great shout for a reaction. There is so much good Chris music. Also how about “waiting for the summer”?
Chris released this in 1989. Turned out to be a prediction as much as a song. Along with some of the best guitar playing ever👍
I absolutely love the fact that you have discovered Chris Rea. He is one of the most underrated artist. Please check out his song fool if you think it’s over. It’s a love ballad but Jay I know you will absolutely love it. I’m sure Amber will.
We saw him in concert in the Seventies, just as good live if not better, his guitar playing is awesome.
I wouldn't say he is underrated, he just really isn't known (at least in the US). I was playing some of his songs in my office a couple of weeks ago and everyone that passed the office stopped to listen.
YESSSSSSSSSSSS!
Been lucky enough to have seen Chris Rea 5 times live, and can honestly say at time's I though that guitar of his was gonna catch fire ! Awesome guitar player song writer and singer. I challenge you both to listen to "Tell me there's a heaven" it will tear your heart out I swear.
"Texas" from the same album is another Chris Rea song that's great. Thanks for playing this. Haven't listened to Chris in a long time.
A very under rated song - a shot of whiskey on a stormy night type song.
Down here in Austin, one of his biggest hits is 'Texas' from the same record as 'Road to Hell.' Chris Rea is largely unknown in the US but he is a fantastic blues artists and his slide gujitar work is legendary!
Chris wrote this about the London Orbital Motorway (M25), it was supposed to be a technical masterpiece to relieve the traffic congestion heading in to London, but ended up so congested it gained the nickname 'London's carpark', hence the line 'this ain't no technological breakdown, this is the road to hell', love Chris' vocals, have a listen to On The Beach, Josephine, I Can Hear your Heart Beat, the man is a LEGEND
Its a metaphor of greed not motorways lol.
Depends on your view of London 😎😎
@@Polecat54941you are missing the link! They are combined in as much as the M25 runs through and alongside some of the most affluent greedy rich areas around London and the South-East.😃
Chris Rea is a very prolific singer - 25 albums. So he has a very deep catalog.
Literally deep, with his voice
@@Kerppu68 wow. I only knew of this one song, and that was because I won the album from a local radio station. (And that is a great album)
"On The Beach" is a super laid-back vibe from him - to add a third flavour of him to the Christmas fun and darkness of this song. Definitely worth checking out!
Chris Rea , what a voice , what an intimate experience with his guitar.
Absolutely amazing.
"Tell Me There's a Heaven", is a great song by Chris Rea
Chris Rea recorded a series of wonderful albums, some great songs on them. "On the Beach", "The Road to Hell", "Auberge", "God's Great Banana Skin", "The Blue Cafe" are just a few albums well worth looking into. His unique vocals also added another dimension to his music.
Also, I always thank my Dad for who brought me up with his music. I always felt that Chris Rea is one of the most underrated artists of all time, with so many timeless songs.
On the beach takes me to the late 80s in a snap.
I agree! Chris Rea's voice reminded he of both Mark Knopfler and Robert Palmer. His guitar work is among the smoothest!!
@@timdyer5903 Yes! That's how I discovered Chris Rea's solo material. He was in the Rolling Stones' Bill Wyman's band Willie & The Poor Boys- retro 50's-60's band.
Geordies.
And Stony Road is a good blues album too.
Classic song, this reached the Top Ten in the UK. Poor Chris has been through a lot healthwise but he is still battling on managing to release new albums in recent years.
Chris Rhea didn't have a whole ton of hits but he does have a whole ton of fantastic music.
Chris Rea is one of my favorite artists. His voice is just amazing. Josephine and On The Beach are a couple other great songs if you're looking to do another one by him❤
Chris is probably one of the most genuine understated singer/songwriters Britain has ever known . . Chris always wanted to be a rock star but never ever saw himself as one and always thought he had a terrible voice and through the last few years has genuinely gone through hell with regards his health and in this modern day is almost unrecognisable from his days of the 1980’s when “Road To Hell” was first penned. But for sure your a pop star in my eyes Chris god bless you and all the best to you for the future my friend.
Windy Town and Steel River are 2 of my favourite Chris Rea tracks. He has a fantastic voice and also a brilliant guitar player. I've seen him play live here in England.
He's had a lot of health issues since his mid thirties and it's a miracle he's still with us.
Windy Town and Steel River are two of my ultimate faves from Chris as well. Awesome tracks.
The live version of this song is stunning and definitely worth checking out. Chris survived a serious fight with cancer and is still out there making music.
Great song!! A couple of my favorites from him are “Texas” and “Workin’ On It”. I hope you listen to more Chris Rea.
I moved from Ireland (Cork) to London in July 1984, and my first gig was Chris Rea at the Dominion Theatre. I had been a fan of his for years, and it was such a great show. His bottle neck guitar playing was exceptional.
The road to hell is simply about being stuck on a busy motorway….nothing deeper than that
His Mother was Irish and His Father was Italian and he was born in Yorkshire what a combo
Road to Hell is an amazing album. 'You must be Evil', and 'Tell me there's a Heaven' They are stunning lyrics.
Chris Rea's music was part of my 1990 European road trip collection, all cassettes, in my Ford Escort MkIV. This is a superb track amongst many of his. Great choice.👍🏻😎
This my first time hearing this song. It’s good, the vocals and the guitar make me think of Dire Straits.
Just what I was thinking. Not my favorite band though.
Ditto ✌️
There's an old school joke that said that Chris was set to join Dire Straits - they were going to rename themselves Dire-Rea! LOL
@Terry Kemp
I have heard that before but it is still fun 🤣
Chris has been around longer than Dire Straits but they both come from the North East of England.
Chris Rea has many great songs like Fool If You Think It's Over, On The Beach, Looking For The Summer, Auberge, Blue Cafe, Wired To The Moon, Nothing To Fear, Loving You etc. Great reaction 😊
Chris has always been one of my favourite artists. His guitar playing is brilliant and his voice so haunting. Still on my playlist today. And yes, Amber, his every song is a masterpiece.
My all time Chris Rea fave was 'Stainsby Girl'. It's a wonderful song and it introduced me to him and his music.
Chris is a master slide guitarist. A softer side to his music is ''Till the Morning Sun Shines On My Love & Me'' live at Birmingham Symphony Hall, showcases his slide guitar playing & has, of course, that deep, gravely voice.
Such an amazing songwriter and voice. Some other songs to check out - "Let's Dance", "I Just Wanna Be With You", and "I Can Hear Your Heartbeat"
I like "On The Beach."
I always liked “Working On It” the best
What happened to fool if you think 🤔 😆 it's over that was by far his Greatest Achievement, talk about forgetting his Best.
I had forgotten just how good this song was thanks for bringing it back to mind P.S The Dartford tunnel is the entrance to Hell
The Blue Cafe is another great album by Chris. In 2005 He put out an 11 CD Box Set called Blue Guitars. Just incredible.
From the same album, Tell Me There's a Heaven. If it doesn't make you break down, nothing will. Also, when the time comes, Driving Home for Christmas, one of the most realistic Christmas songs ever, and chill as anything.
Tell me there's a heaven - it will break your heart, particularly if you have kids.
@@philipbroughton8920 Indeed. And don't even get me started on when they used it for that NSPCC Public Information Film. One of the most harrowing things I've ever seen.
They did Driving Home - it was their first Chris Rea song. But a BIG yes to Tell Me There's A Heaven.
Looking for the summer😢
As others have mentioned, Fool if you think it's over, is Chris Rea's huge hit, which continues to be played a lot to this day. My favorite song of his is Looking for the Summer. The video attached to it is great as well.
Chris and 3 of his friends were caught in a 5 mile tale back on the M25 around London, they were only 20 mins from home but it took them 4 hours, they had only 3 cigs between them and they could not get out of their car for even a pee,so when he got home he wrote this song in an hour.
Yeah he's talking about the M25 the ring road around london 😉
First world problems
The sad thing is that the M25 is still no better 🚓🚗🚙🚛😢👎
@@penderyn8794 Congestion is a problem in many third world countries too -- often much worse.
According to Wikipedia it was the M4 and M25 junction. If you have driven that bit near Heathrow or from the west as well, it is a nightmare
Chris Rea has a huge catalogue of greats. I was fortunate to see him on stage in Perth, Australia back in the 80s
This man is a genius, so many great albums
I’ve been lucky enough to see Chris a few times, in Concert. He’s brilliant.
If you have ever lost someone his song "Tell me there's a heaven" is a masterpiece
Absolutely. It's a wonderful track
Getting played at my funeral.
I agree, it's a great track
One of my favourite Chris Rea moments came when he appeared on a music chart TV show (Top of the Pops) and played 'Nothing to Fear'. It's an amazing tune, with a long, slow instrumental opening, and it was hilarious to watch all the kids in the audience trying to dance to it.
WOW!!! I've never heard this before!!!! What a fantastic song!!! I love it. I'm adding to my "powerful" playlist!!!! Thank you for bringing me new music too! ❤❤❤
I’ve been to four Chris Rea concerts - literally goosebumps all the time! You should check more of his music🔥
It is an absolute epic song with an amazing introduction. This is musical genius.
My favourite Chris Rea song is Steel River, an album track. His " What ever happened to Benny Santini " is in my top ten albums of all time ! A truly under rated musician.
My brother turned me on to Chris Rea.And I fell into his blues /rock genre music. The man is a pure storyteller, and he has a bunch of great songs. I hope one day to go to one of his shows.
I seen Chris Rea in concert twice here in Northern Ireland and he was fantastic. He's a very underrated guitarist and one of the best slide guitarists in the world. Sadly he's had health problems over the years. "Stainsby girl" is another great track.
Definitely listen to Texas by Chris Rea another great bluesy song Great guitar player. He was born in Middlesborough in the north east of England ❤😊😊😊😊
Stunning song and I am so pleased you chose the long version. The complete album this is off is brilliant.
I Listen all Time long version,Sound is great
Chris Rea Is the best slide guitar player of all time. Everything he has done is fabulous. I became A huge fan about 20 years ago. Texas is A great song check it out.
Duane Allman is considered the greatest ever slide player.
@@matthewoconnor5838 I am not disagreeing with you it's just A matter of opinion. kind of like Ford Vs Chevrolet.
I was in college in the mid 80s, and Chris Rea was one of my heavy rotation artists. Love this song - the lengthy intro with its gospel feeling, and poetry, and then we roll into a fantastic blues journey.
One of my favourite singers and musicians. Play his music on every car journey, have so much of his music just love all his tracks not just his big hits but all his early music too. He’s a legend ❤❤❤❤❤ thank you for reviewing him
He really can transport different moods with his music. From hauntingly bluesy like this intro, or the song "Nothing to fear", or really lighthearted like the song "Looking for the Summer", or something in between like "Auberge". Plus he is a master of the slide guitar.
Thank you for that! You would love a song on the same album called Texas. Born and raised and my favorite song ever about Texas. An Englishman singing about Texas. It's so good. It just puts me in a trance I can't do anything but smile. After I finish this comment, I'm gonna listen to it several, several times. He's one helluva guitar player. Man I really loved this morphine to my soul. May God continue to bless and protect your beautiful family!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍
I came across Texas for the first time not along ago , great song.
@@happyapple4269 Right?
So glad you guys found this gem! Even happier that you chose the full long version with the slow intro. What a song!
This is my absolute favorite of Chris' material, he's awesome! I hope this song makes both of your playlists. :)
There's a ridiculously great live version you can find of this song. A totally underrated and underappreciated artist.
Where
He's amazing. What a great voice. Fool If You Think Its Over is one of my favorites.
Loads of great tracks from Chris, a master song writer and ace guitar player. His veins run with the same NE England Geordie grit as Mark Knopfler, Eric Burdon and Brian Johnson of ACDC.
Wonderful artist, with a fantastic back catalogue
Crikey not heard this song for years! Such a banger! On the album it's actually split in to two parts, the slow really bluesy part and the faster more rocking part. He has a great voice and skills on the slide guitar, and so much in his back catalogue you'll love if you love this. Stainsby Girls is definitely a start (it's written as a tribute to his now wife who went to Stainsby School in his native Middlesborough).
'The valley of the rich.' He was actually referring to the financial district in the city of London. The lyrics 'from the desert to the well' was symbolic.
This was sung in the movie
( Beyond The Law ) with Charlie Sheen. It's about a under cover cop went under cover to take down a motorcycle gang. He had to be completely changed over to look like a biker. A biker mechanic taught him the biker rules, ,biker colors & what patches mean to get him in the club. It's a movie you will love .
TRUE STORY MOVIE..( Beyond The Law ) with Charlie Sheen....
FANTASTIC MOVIE..TRUE STORY.
I know a couple of people have mentioned this one, but if I'm honeset the full version of Auberge is just... Incredible. Check it out. "This is the naked truth, this is the light. There's only one place left to go... Auberge"
Huge memories of my dad, taken too soon.
Cheers everyone, I hope you are having a wonderful time. If not, I hope it gets better. P + L
I'd never heard of this guy until I was working in a record store in the late 80s, we got this promo album in. When we played it in the store, you just couldn't ignore this song, it was so strong. Plus, it sounds like he lifted every lick Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits) ever played.
The reason he sounds like Die Straits is he finger picks like Knopfler also born about 30miles apart probably played the same venues.
@@paulgibson490 More like 180 miles, Mark Knopfler was born in Glasgow 😁
@@geegaz1057 I mentioned to say lived 30miles apart a slip of the keyboard.
I went to the "Road To Hell" tour concert in 1989 in Helsinki, Finland. Still probably the best ever concert I ever went to and there have been many. If I remember correctly, he played and sang for over 3 hours. Still makes my skin go goosebumps! Best regards to Chris from Finland! 💖🇫🇮 And thank you for this great video!
This guy is really good. Great catalog. Really surprised he didn’t make it bigger in the states.
One of my favourite artists of all time with such a great back catalogue of fantastic music. You have to delve deeper into his music - such a great blues like guitarist and singer. Also there is lighter stuff like ‘Let’s Dance’ It is compulsory for you to do more reactions to Chris Rea.
Very reminiscent of Leonard Cohen. Very incredible voice. Check out "Auberge". Another under the radar unappreciated guitarist is Eric Johnson.
I agree. I hear a blend of voices. I hear Leonard Cohen, Robert Palmer, and Mark Knopfler. His guitar blues style also is reminiscent of Knopfler's for me as well or I'll say vice versa. "Tones" and "Ah Via Musicum" are my faves of his. He would regularly play concerts at a local stage every Thanksgiving weekend in the early 90's!! I miss those days.
Oh I haven’t heard this for ages! I had the good fortune to see Chris Rea in concert on ‘The Road to Hell’ tour, he was great, what a voice and an even better guitarist!!!
Let's Dance and Texas are also very good......as well as Daytona. Chris Rea is one of my favorites.
Great reaction! The song is a great late night long drive home with only quarters in your pocket
Somehow, I'd never heard the intro before, and that's crime. As much as I always loved the song itself, that intro was AMAZING! Thanks to whoever suggested it.
My favourite Chris Rea album is "Dancing With Strangers" - every track is top notch (no filler unlike most of his studio albums) and even the deluxe edition released a while back had some pretty good bonus tracks. Chris Rea's slide guitar playing is the real star here - you might want to check out the sequel to this as well, predictably titled "The Road To Hell Pt. 2".
agreed)
Dancing With Strangers has been my favourite Chris Rea album for years, as you say every track a winner. Windy Town, Curse of the Traveller and I Can't Dance to That a few l love from the album.
He has many excellent songs, Julia, Driving Home for Christmas etc. Just an excellent singer/guitarist/songwriter! 💖
This is a fave of mine, the bluesy guitar is awesome aswell as a song called On The Beach, which is a great summer chill song. I have his greatest hits album. 😎👌
I had semi-forgotten this song, which meant so much to me at one time. It all comes back now - great song, great reaction! Wonderful ballad about Hell in LA, Chris Rea!
Christopher Anton Rea is an English rock and blues singer and guitarist from Middlesbrough. And a great bloke.
Espresso Logic is the title track of one of my favourite albums of his. Some properly rocky ,bluesy tracks on here.
Chris has been through some horrific health problems but still retains his unassuming, dry sense of humour. He has moved recently to more blues music and his voice has , if anything, become deeper and richer. A huge amount of music to take a deep dive into.
I love watching you two and your delight in finding new music. You are a lovely couple and always put a smile on my face. Thank you and keep it up!
One of my favorite artists. This whole album is fantastic. There are too many great songs to pick one, so I leave that the other people. LOVE his voice, his guitar playing, his lyrics.
This is one of my top all time driving songs, long journey, window cracked open and nothing but good tunes and miles of road ahead. This, to me, always pairs well with another favourite artist, Talking Heads, and the great track "Road to nowhere".
Great pick guys/RSR family! Next you should react to..."Fool If You Think It's Over", "Texas", "On The Beach" and my personal fave the rocking "Working On It".
Thank you for this reaction. I had forgotten how much I loved Chris Rea's music.
Please do more. LOKING FOR A RAINBOW, YOU MUST BE EVIL, JOSEPHINE , TEXAS, DAYTONA.

Great reaction. Chris Rea, a canny lad from the North East of England.
A huge ecological message, the terrible things money can do to the Planet, for 86. One of my siblings, truck driver, brought this tape to home because he wanted me to tell him the story in the lyrics; we are from Spain. He said "now I liked even more".
Another ones to check could be :
- On The Beach: It was such a hit in the times of Café del Mar (the sunsets in Ibiza) and those chillout musics (for the dawns after the party).
- Driving Home For Christmas (nice even if you don't like Xmas)
- Fool If You Think It's Over (sooooooo nice)
- Josephine (another good one)
There are so many great songs but this album is fantastic from start to finish.
Chris is such a great artist and so much to recommend. “Your Warm And Tender Love” from that album is wonderful, and I defy anyone to listen to “Tell Me There’s A Heaven” without tearing up. More recently, his “Happy On The Road” is the most perfect driving song. Hope you enjoy more of his stuff. 👍
“Tell Me There’s A Heaven” gets me every time! I faintly remember seeing it used in a cinema ad for NSPCC.
@@donelwell7507 Yes, I remember that one now. I was torn between tears and anger at any adult who could abuse a child.

This man is a legend! It still baffles me he wasn't a much huger success here in the US! You need to react to "Texas" next!
100% I bloody love Texas, funny and brilliant
