He wrote this about his sister who was dumped by her boyfriend when she was 17. I always loved this song. He's got a great voice, and he's a hell of a guitarist!
You guys have just begun…Chris Rea’s entire collection is under appreciated and DEFINITELY worth exploring…he quickly became one of my all time favorites…heck, check out “Driving Home for Christmas” since it’s still January…respect…
Your reactions to hearing these songs for the first time are fun! I grew up with these songs and they still hold up today. These songs are still fresh to me, but, I have to remember that there are younger people like you guys that have never heard these songs before. So glad you like the music from the 70s. Such a great time for music! Chris Rea... Total Fire!
I actually lived in Chris Rea's house. My ex-girlfriend's parents bought the house in north London from him in the late 80s and while they were away we lived there for a couple of months. I used to hum this song in the bath!
Chris Rea is definitely an underrated genius who only real music admirers know and respect. And this song is one of his Top 5 and a Top 10 to me for my whole life. I am happy to realize there is still some light at the end of the tunnel for this generation.
I fell in love with my now husband in high school when I hear this song just reminds me so much of him. We have been married 37 years! I love the 70s and I love all of you and your reactions are so genuine keep up the good work boys❤
This was a huge AM Pop radio hit Fall of 1978! I was a senior in high school. Anything rainbow was very '70s. Not sure why Ryan would think it was '80s, lol.
Chris Rea is a most under-appreciated talent. Let me suggest his song "Letters from Amsterdam." Again, a different style. To borrow from Ryan, it is fire!
I just dig the reactions! Lol. Yes,this is what i used to listen to when i was a little girl back in 77,now im 55. This is how awsome music was, back then!! Im so glad u all are enjoying what real music was lile!😀😃😁😆
This is one of my favorites of all time! I still remember being a 17 year old in college taking ballroom dance as a PE, and dancing the cha cha to this.
That has to be one of the earliest pauses you've ever had in a reaction video. Ryan instantly loving it and Nick cracking up was great. Another awesome clip for an awesome song. As an older follower of your page, I love seeing how you guys think about these songs. It has such history and invokes powerful memories for a lot of us. Sometimes it's the sound that takes us back to that era.
Seriously one of the great guitarist song writer singers of our lifetimes - huge in Russia interestingly - dozens of great albums - if I was stuck on an island with one artist to listen to Chris Rea - many great songs, about 30 bangers - this one not in my top 10 but a goodie Love to Chris Rea and all who know! Australian here 4 years in Europe in 89 -93 when he was huge.
Chris rhea is anything but yaht rock! His total catalig is electic! You need to check out all his stuff! Damn fine guitarist! He goes from this to real great rock... He was real yiung when he sang fool he get better and batter as he ages. Fyi. Hes been thru pancreatic cancer and almost died. Thank the gids hes still around! ( yeah there's better version of fool). . Its🔥 and its a great tune.
I was in Australia late 1987 and two Chris Rea songs were played all the time. ‘Windy Town’ and ‘Loving You Again’. Great songs that are on different spectrums. And showcase his bluesy guitar style. Both worth a listen!
This man is a gem. So many songs to explore. Wired to the moon and Driving Home for Christmas just two I would like your reaction to. Though have fun listening to anything done by Chris
I’m so glad i discovered this channel… you guys are the BEST reactors !! You have such fun as you appreciate this amazing music so many of us grew up with and didn’t realize we were hearing the best music ever made … Love this song
Yacht Rock Gold . Very good mood and moving emotional lyrics. His little sister has her heart broken and wrote this song for/about her. God only knows how accurate that was for such a young man to compose
Guys I so love your stuff! Ever since your reaction to Year of the Cat. As a lifelong Chris Rea Fan (every album) I recommend you listen to the versions on 'New light through Old Windows' an 80-s re-arrangement he did of his most popular songs. They are even better than the originals. 'On the Beach' is more up-tempo, 'It's all gone' is awesome, the version of this song highlights his voice much better. Later songs like 'Looking for the Summer' and 'All summer long' are also brilliant. He is huge elsewhere but because he never toured the US he is best known outside in Europe, the UK Australia etc.
I've known THIS song forever but I never realized how raspy his voice is until I watched your reaction to On the Beach (a song that I didn't know before but now IS DEFINITELY going on the Pool Music playlist for sure). Thanks, guys!
I'm sure Nick knows "The Road to Hell" but when you do it one day in the future, PLEASE do parts 1 and 2 together. It's so much better like that. Just look at all the likes my post will get. 😂
Like the Yacht Rock - Soft Rock reviews....Fire! I graduated high school in 1979 so a lot of these song (Like Chris Rea) I liked when they were new. The 70s were great for all types of music and I liked most of them, from Led Zeppelin to Elvis Costello. I'm thinking you guys might love "Moonlight Feels Right". Fits that 70s soft rock/yacht rock theme perfectly. Huge hit for Starbuck in 1976. Give it a try.
i dont know if you guys take suggestions but a lady who is similar and in fact had this song in the uk charts is ELKIE BROOKS and her song LILAC WINE is mesmerizing
I pretty much quit buying recorded music right around the time Rea came out in Canada. I bought the Road To Hell CD but never listened to anything else from him. This is a nice song. The chorus and Rea’s vocal style in the chorus reminds me of “Pretty Lady” by Lighthouse; ‘73. ☮️💕
This is like a Kumbaya moment with you two on this song😊 I totally dig what the Sax does to Ryan🎉❤ It never misses 👍 Hey Nick, and Ty whereever you be🎉
I heard Chris Rea in an interview once saying this is the only song he played piano on and not guitar. The music industry tried to peg him as a piano player like Billy Joel and Elton John. He thought it was strange because he thought of himself as a guitar player. This song just happened to be his 1st hit single.
Awesome! We're goin' down the Chris Rea rabbit hole of fantastic music! Gotta check out "Electric Guitar","Working On It","It's All Gone"....the list is endless
"Benny Santini" was a stage name Chris Rea considered using when beginning his musical career. That rainbow scarf appeared so many times in '70s photography among various artists. Peace, love and rainbows! Btw I absolutely knew Ryan would eargasm when those power chords, sandy velvet crooning and lush strings kicked in. Totally classy tune without the slightest pretension. p.s. Using parentheses in a song title can lend an almost literary touch to a work or suggest an alternate meaning or take on the title as in R.E.M.'s “It’s the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)" and many other songs.
You guys are funny. As a teenage girl in the 70's I can say, in my opinion, that this is a girls song. Don't know many guys who were listening to Chris Rea. Maybe do David Cassidy Cherish or I think I love you or even Bobby Sherman Julie, Julie, Julie. This kind of music appealed to us girls.
…and the lyric “new born eyes always cry with pain, first look at the morning sun” is such a beautiful analogy and has always stayed with me through my heartbreaks… and oh that sax!! 🎷
a great 70's tune you need to listen to is Moonlight Feels Right by Starbuck. See if you know the instrument they middle solo is done on. Great 1 hit wonder and I've always loved this song
Heard Rea say more than once that the label mis-marketed him in the beginning and his later output proves it. He has done quite a few Blues guitar LPs.
Guys if you ever get around to Al Stewart again, listen to 'Don't forget me' off 'Famous Last Words'. Ryan's head will explode. The production and of course the sax is unbelievable.
This is a great album. There are a number of tracks where he rocks out (like "Fires of Spring"). Unfortunately, people always seem to concentrate on the single instead of going deeper. Another Chris Rea classic is "Workin' On It"(1988?) which shows off his powerhouse rock guitar playing.
His 17 year old sisters boyfriend dumped her , she thought the world was over so He wrote her this song and it became his biggest hit.
It is indeed, a great song! Loved it since 1978!!!
He wrote this about his sister who was dumped by her boyfriend when she was 17. I always loved this song. He's got a great voice, and he's a hell of a guitarist!
Aaaaaaaaaahahaha!!!!!!
I love when they "get it" with these songs. Ryan's reaction is.........fire.........and Nick's laughter is just a tonic
I know, right?
I agree fire and laughing love them
You need to listen to all his music you will be very impressed he is great!!!!!
A favorite soft rock song. Glad you did this one!
Yep!! A FANTASTIC song! You youngsters just don’t know what you missed growing up !!! 😉
An AM radio staple in the late 70s. I miss the simplicity of that transistor radio and earphone at bedtime.
Phone under the pillow along with a phone.
You guys have just begun…Chris Rea’s entire collection is under appreciated and DEFINITELY worth exploring…he quickly became one of my all time favorites…heck, check out “Driving Home for Christmas” since it’s still January…respect…
That is an amazing song!
Love this song !
I LOVE this song!!!!
Easy listening yacht rock. 1978 had lots of smooth songs like this.
Your reactions to hearing these songs for the first time are fun! I grew up with these songs and they still hold up today. These songs are still fresh to me, but, I have to remember that there are younger people like you guys that have never heard these songs before. So glad you like the music from the 70s. Love, love this song! Definitely on my playlist. I hope guys are fans of it 😉
Loved Ryan’s reaction. This song really takes me back
Chris Rea is definitely an underrated genius who only real music admirers know and respect. And this song is one of his Top 5 and a Top 10 to me for my whole life. I am happy to realize there is still some light at the end of the tunnel for this generation.
Agreed ! FIRE !!
agreed...this is absolutely fire!
Again... You take me right back to my teen years. Thanks guys
We all knew Ryan would love this, right?
I fell in love with my now husband in high school when I hear this song just reminds me so much of him. We have been married 37 years!
I love the 70s and I love all of you and your reactions are so genuine keep up the good work boys❤
This is definitely 🔥🔥🔥🔥 I have loved this song since it came out! ❤️
That production is ear candy.
This was a huge AM Pop radio hit Fall of 1978! I was a senior in high school. Anything rainbow was very '70s. Not sure why Ryan would think it was '80s, lol.
Mork's rainbow suspenders started it all, I think
@bluelionvintage8134 I lived near Great Adventure theme park in NJ. It's logo was a rainbow. It opened in 1974.
I love the vibe. Bring it back. I love it!
Love this song. It is different, which makes it great. It went to #12 on Billboard Hot 100 in 1978. His only big hit in the U.S. More cowbell please 😂
cowbell rules
Wood Block
One of my favorite soft rock songs , it's perfect as far as I'm concerned
Chris Rea is a most under-appreciated talent. Let me suggest his song "Letters from Amsterdam." Again, a different style. To borrow from Ryan, it is fire!
great voice and very underrated guitarist
Butter! This song is a time machine for those of us who grew up listening to it in the late 70's. For once I'm happy to be old....
Awesome reaction. Very few channels react to this amazing song. Kudos!
Love this song❤
Great song ,never ages.
Who would've thought that the "cow bell " would go on to become one of the most important instruments in ROCK music.....................?
I just dig the reactions! Lol. Yes,this is what i used to listen to when i was a little girl back in 77,now im 55. This is how awsome music was, back then!! Im so glad u all are enjoying what real music was lile!😀😃😁😆
One of my faves........soft rock....
This is one of my favorites of all time! I still remember being a 17 year old in college taking ballroom dance as a PE, and dancing the cha cha to this.
‘Wired to the Moon’ is another great track of his. I think you would like it.
I agree with Ryan 🔥
If it has not been brought up yet, try a piece later in his career called
Road to Hell (parts 1&2)
That has to be one of the earliest pauses you've ever had in a reaction video. Ryan instantly loving it and Nick cracking up was great. Another awesome clip for an awesome song. Have you seen their reaction to Ambrosia’s How Much I Feel? Nick paused it just 4 notes in😆
Seriously one of the great guitarist song writer singers of our lifetimes - huge in Russia interestingly - dozens of great albums - if I was stuck on an island with one artist to listen to Chris Rea - many great songs, about 30 bangers - this one not in my top 10 but a goodie Love to Chris Rea and all who know! I loooved this song. His only hit in the US
Ryan really loves these smooth 70s tunes -- and so do I! You can always see where he's fallen in love with the song.
Huge hit back in the day. Still played all the time on oldies stations. Very catchy hit.
Great song great reaction
I was in Australia late 1987 and two Chris Rea songs were played all the time. ‘Windy Town’ and ‘Loving You Again’. Great songs that are on different spectrums. And showcase his bluesy guitar style. Both worth a listen!
Yep these two are superb...yet so are at least 50/100 others of Chris
YOU GUYS SO MAKE ME SMILE!!! I just KNEW that, once you got-into this one, that you'd like it!! HUGS, GUYS!!!
This man is a gem. So many songs to explore. Wired to the moon and Driving Home for Christmas just two I would like your reaction to. Though have fun listening to anything done by Chris
Guys, take a listen to Auberge and Road to Hell, parts 1 and 2. Love your reaction to Fool!
I’m so glad i discovered this channel… you guys are the BEST reactors !! You have such fun as you appreciate this amazing music so many of us grew up with and didn’t realize we were hearing the best music ever made …
Love this song
Yacht Rock Gold . Very good mood and moving emotional lyrics. His little sister has her heart broken and wrote this song for/about her. God only knows how accurate that was for such a young man to compose
I remember this song when I was a younger GenXer and it first came out. It was fire back then too!
Guys I so love your stuff! Ever since your reaction to Year of the Cat. One of my favourite songs 🎵 by Chris Rea is Diamonds 1979, the song you chose is a classic..
Benny Santini was the name the record company wanted him to use, and he hated it, so he used his real name instead.
Also, love that you've embraced Yacht Rock!
a very good sad song of the 70;s lived thru those heartaches, lol
I heard this song last week and thought of you guys...especially Ryan when that sax rolled in 😂
great song from1980. made it to he charts for a few weeks.
1978. 😁
There is definitely an element reminiscent of programmed keyboard backing beats at the beginning of the song.
The Curse of the Traveller. Great song.
I've known THIS song forever but I never realized how raspy his voice is until I watched your reaction to On the Beach (a song that I didn't know before but now IS DEFINITELY going on the Pool Music playlist for sure). Thanks, guys!

Let's Dance!
The Road to Hell Parts 1 & 2. Chris must have sold his soul to make that song!
Like the Yacht Rock - Soft Rock reviews....Fire! I graduated high school in 1979 so a lot of these song (Like Chris Rea) I liked when they were new. Hey Nick, and Ty whereever you be🎉
There is no bad Chris Rea. Some are better than others, but there is no bad music from him.
Brilliant
Chris Rea loved the version by Elkie Brooks aka British Queen she had a hit with this ,an amazing version IMO.
I loved her cover also, I have her Pearl's A Singer LP. She also does a great cover of Don't Cry Out Loud, I still love and play both singers.
One of the last pop songs using humans on strings in mix. 😎
His later song Road To Hell is wickedly cool.
Little River Band's " Cool Change" is a flotilla of yachts 🇭🇲
I heard Chris Rea in an interview once saying this is the only song he played piano on and not guitar. The music industry tried to peg him as a piano player like Billy Joel and Elton John. He thought it was strange because he thought of himself as a guitar player. This song just happened to be his 1st hit single.
And no coincidence that Elton's 1970's decade producer, Gus Dudgeon, produced this Chris Rea album.
@@kevinhayes906 Wow, I didn't remember that fact. Thanks, very interesting.
It was his label's erroneuos promotion early on according to Rea,
luv you guys!
The name of the album is a pun on the record company that wanted to name him Benny Santini as an artist. He refused , of course.
I am surprised you guy have not listen to Christopher Cross song Sailing it is the most soothing, relaxing song. if you like Yacht rock .
That song will be on the playlist when I sail along the Monterey-to-Big Sur coastline. Top of my bucket list.
The fellas certainly need to do Chris Cross. Many great tunes to pick from.
Awesome! We're goin' down the Chris Rea rabbit hole of fantastic music! Gotta check out "Electric Guitar","Working On It","It's All Gone"....the list is endless

He never considered record comp tried to make him he refused
@@KymPridham Ahhh thanks for the clarification. That makes the title even more cheeky now :)
@KymPridham Yep this is the actuality. Glad he kept his real name!
This reminds me of your Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty reaction. Went from quizzical looks to absolute fire within 10 seconds... Keep it up guys!
Listen to Chris Rea’s song Texas. He is more than just yacht rock
Ryan’s love is the saxophone is proof that he’s eye candy to the females
So relatable to me again and again in my life…starting even younger than age 17. My theme song and I love it so much ❤
…and the lyric “new born eyes always cry with pain, first look at the morning sun” is such a beautiful analogy and has always stayed with me through my heartbreaks…
and oh that sax!! 🎷
a great 70's tune you need to listen to is Moonlight Feels Right by Starbuck. See if you know the instrument they middle solo is done on. Great 1 hit wonder and I've always loved this song
Love everything Chris does. You should consider Highway To Hell next.
Road To Hell Parts I & II.
Heard Rea say more than once that the label mis-marketed him in the beginning and his later output proves it.
He has done quite a few Blues guitar LPs.
I heard he was about to give up on his singing career and go into his family's business when a US DJ gave it some playing time, became a hit.
Guys if you ever get around to Al Stewart again, listen to 'Don't forget me' off 'Famous Last Words'. Ryan's head will explode. The production and of course the sax is unbelievable.
The Road to Hell Part 1and Part 2
Love this song ❤ he's singing about his daughter having her first heartbreak .
It was for his sister Paula who had broken up with her boyfriend.
@Londoneye57 you are correct, thank you 😊
Sister
Oh I love this tune it’s fire alright ❤ he is on my playlist yacht radio for sure I think y’all both will look so nice and scarfs❤😂
The version on New Lights Through Old Windows rocks!!
His labebl didn't promote him correctly early on.
There are different versions of this song
It this one is the best
And it is FIRE 🔥
