"All day long, wearing a mask of false bravado... Trying to keep up a smile to hide the tears..." That's poetry fellas. Pure poetry!
That's being a man! Just keep up!
I heard this song thousands of times and it never gets old. The great 70s music.
Don't be ashamed of the love of soft rock! Everyone loves it, they just don't admit to it...... another excellent reaction.
I do 😊
I love it and I admit it.😂
Yes guys. Embrace the raw message of the song...the player was wrong. He played too much. But the beauty is he is not afraid of expressing himself...the gift God gave the 70s, where a entire 2 generations were brought up on love songs; positivity and fantastic music.
Took me some years, but there are indeed some soft rock jams that tickle me.
Guys called it chick music but they knew that was how to get her
Billboard #1 hit for 3 weeks
The impressive thing in these bands is they all play an instrument, all sing, write their own music and these guys wrote songs for other artists. Multitalented, versatility. No frontman who does all the singing, so impressive, the 70’s were no joke.
Some of the best music came out between 1978 and 1984 -- my high school and college years.
We lived in such a romanticj era.... Now I'm 76..... & I can't believe this one
Sorry guys, I 70. I am not trying to put other decades down, but there will never be another two decades like the 70’s, and 60’s! What a great iconic tune! 😎🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
@williamcabell142 I feel ya!! Sixty here!! I would love if they would maybe venture into Chicago, Three Dog Night, then the Moody Blues & Emerson, Lake & Palmer, etc.!! There are soooo many!! Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Hendrix, Janis Joplin, lol!! ✌️🎵🔥
I love 70s 80s and some early 90s but I think the 80s had the very best music . Record sales along proves that 80s was the best decade for music especially 82-84
Nothing like it. We took having so much music for granted. Such a great time. ❤
Ambrosia’s “Biggest Part of Me” and “How Much I Feel” should be next. Loving you guys!!!!
In '77 saw them in concert with Boz Scaggs! They were all great and Boz killed 'Lowdown'. Fantastic!
could you imagine if the 502 crew were to see that concert.....
NICE!!! I was 12 at the time, but grew up with this music because of my older siblings. Still love it!😊😊
Gotta do Little River Band. So many great songs from them like “Lady” (my favorite), “Lonesome Loser”, “Reminiscing” (their biggest hit), “Help is On its Way” and “The Night Owls” to name a few!
Yesssssssss I’d add “Cool Change”
I would add it's a long way there!
I love “The Other Guy.”
Cool Change got me through a rough patch in high school. We had to write our favorite song in our journal for English class. This was mine.
Player reminds me so much of the Little River Band.
I wish they would bring music like this back again please and stay forever❤
I love your name
Something sure is missing from life these days.
At the time there were people that thought this was Hall & Oates because of the similarities between this song and Hall & Oates’ “She’s Gone”
I Never get tired of this song love it
Daryl Hall told Player lead singer Peter Beckett that this is the most requested song at Hall & Oates concerts ! To be honest for a very long time i thought it was too.
As a Kid, in the 60s, our house had a "Sunken Living Room", with a Rought Iron Railing/Fence around it.
America, James Taylor, Chicago, Orleans, England Dan & John Ford Coley, Poco, the Carpenters, Seals & Crofts, Bread, Little River Band, Firefall, Ambrosia, and the list goes on and on.. with a helluva lot of one-hit wonders too!
Don’t forget Poco.
Yes, please!
don't sleep on 'America'
Duly noted... I have added all your suggestions. Keep 'em coming!
What is the name of England Dan's booty call song!!!!???😂😂 really dig that one!!!❤
Crazy fact the Bass player ended up on the Soap Opera “ The Bold and the Beautiful” for several years as a main character .
Not for several years. For MANY years.
@@Wordsmyth8 25 to be exact. So yeah, a quarter of a century.
Ron Moss played Ridge Forrester. I haven't seen him in anything since.
@raymondwoodard6779 He retired from acting and went back to being an active musician. He's got a loyal following in Europe.
Uau; não sabia...👍
This song has great harmonies and timing.
An anthem from my youth. Always loved it. It had huge air play.
This is in the same vein as "If You Leave Me Now" by Chicago. There was NO decade with better or more huge hit soft rock than the 1970s.
I'll give you cats another perspective for the recipe, the consistency of the 70s and 80s soft rock or yacht rock as it became to be known later. Most of these cats in these bands were children of the 50s and 60s and they were in awe of and transfixed by the music of Black American R&B, Soul and Motown artists. What emerged was the sound of AM Radio and the moniker given to all of these bands like Player, Hall &Oats and the like was Blue Eyed Soul! A bunch of white boys, some from the states and some from across the pond that were trying their hardest to be the cats they grew up listening to and either by choice or subconsciously they studied that music and that's what came out when these cats performed.
You nailed it. Well said These dudes and the unison head bob killed me. Lol
It’s 1979, and I just broke up with my first real 8th grade boyfriend because I thought I could “do better.” A couple of days later, the boy I had my eye on was like “um, no.” So, I went home and played this song over and over on my turntable and cried into my microphone/hair brush. I had played myself. Now I missed Mr. Not good enough. 😂😂
LOL! I also had a microphone/hair brush
Baby come back!
There's a song in there somewhere....gimme a minute....
You and about 90% of women. They do it regularly. Hypergamy is real and a woman's worse enemy
Hypergamy. You're hard wired.
This song used to play endlessly on the radio in the late 70s. Good song.
On the Simpsons, when Homer lost Maggie, he called the lost baby hotline. This song was the music played while Homer was on hold.
Peter Becker later joined the Little River Band when they toured in the 90’s and they would let him sing this hit during their concerts. The audience of boomers like myself would go crazy for this old classic!!!
I was at one of those concerts, and it was the best song of the concert.
Speaking of babies…
You’d really love The Baby’s “Everytime I Think of You” or “Isn’t it Time”…
I promise I didn’t see your comment when I commented almost the exact thing.
IMHO, “Isn’t It Time” would go over quite well with these guys. ✌🏽
@@gabrielmcdonnell8699 I would hope they would like both. I sure do.
@@garyatwood-mendez6465 ha ha I always do that too☺️
Isn't It Time features the Emotions on back up. Absolutely worth a reaction, you'll love it guys.
Barry White would give his stamp of approval.
This song turns women into butter.
Sure does! I have this urge to kiss every one of them.
Blue-eyed Soul. #10 on the Billboard R&B Charts. Ryan and Ty are gonna love it. 😎✌🏽
Back then it was called Soul chart😊
How on earth you could comment 5 days ago in the video which was uploaded 6 hours ago?
@@BaltoD60 Facts. Yup, Hot Soul Singles to be precise. In 1990, Billboard went back to its origins and it became the Hot R&B Singles again. Hope to see them do more blue-eyed soul reactions (Gino Vannelli, Bobby Caldwell, Simply Red, Culture Club, Alison Moyet, Style Council, Nikka Costa). Also, they’re R&B artists through and through (nothing pop about either of them) but would love to see their takes on Teena Marie And Jon B, two very soulful Caucasians. ✌🏽
@@PinkFloydsfan When Ryan, Nick & Ty post their ‘Upcoming’ (premiering on...) videos, we, as subs, can post comments even though the video has yet to be uploaded. ✌🏽
The lower living rooms were called "sunken living rooms".
I'm 54 years old. That song brings back memories of my childhood. Just listening to the radio.
The scarf guy is Ron Moss. AKA Soap Beefcake. For about 25 years. From the mid to late 80s through 2010, or so.
Give Gino Vanelli's "I Just Wanna Stop" a listen ❤
A 🔥 bop for Ryan and Ty. ✌🏽
It’s all about passion. And these types of songs just drown us with passion. Everyone can relate to the lyrics and the music gets in your soul. So, so good!
The Simpsons used this one as “hold music” when Homer lost baby Maggie. He called the missing persons hotline and got placed on hold.

Actually i had this happen to me. He broke up with me, i moved on with my life and he called begging me to come back. Sorry i was married by then. About the group the high notes are by the lead singer, the lower tones are sung by the bass player who went on to a very successful acting career.
Try pablo cruise if you like this
So as I'm sure someone has already told you fruit scarf guy is Ron Moss who was in the soap The Bold and the Beautiful for years and he is beautiful. Don't ever underestimate the power of a brunette in a fruit scarf. I have no doubt that those guys had no issue pulling anyone they wanted.
Ronn Moss is HOT!
I was born in 1970 so these songs, which I call “Songs that give you that feeling “ are the soundtrack of my childhood. I have 3 great playlists of the these type songs. “How Long” by Ace, “Real Love” by Doobie Brothers (Michael McDonald) , “Crazy Love “ by Poco and “This is It” by Kenny Loggins are some choice songs to give a listen to. I love that you guys love these songs! I’m glad they are still being appreciated!
I was born in 70 too. We’re really lucky.
I really am so glad to have experienced all the great music through the decades (70’s - 00’s) in real time. Sadly there’s not much quality out there from the last 20 years. Not to say there’s none, certainly not as much.
Only thing better was being a teenager in the 70's....dozens of phenomenal bands, everything from Led Zeppelin to the Carpenters .
All phenomenal singers & players. All analog, no Auto Tune....
ahh that look on their faces when the intro kicks off and the vibe sinks in lol - precious!
Love soft rock, always have! How about “Ride Like The Wind” by Christopher Cross. Also “I Keep Forgetting” by Michael McDonald… omgosh, you guys will love Michael McDonald… his soulful voice… mmm, mmm, mmm!
Plus all his duets
@@joemachine4714 yes, definitely!
Sometimes you don't know what you've got until it's gone. That's what it's all about.
You'll never beat this type of music from the 70s. Thats when they all played instruments no auto turning like most of them do nowadays and the contant of the music beats sny music from today hands down. Miss this type of classic, timeless music feel so lucky to be brought up on such great music.Alan Parsons Project another great group.
It's called a "Sunken Living Room". Our house had one. It was a thankfully brief archetectural trend, from the 50's-80's.
If a song is good when you first hear it, it's usually good forever, no matter how many times you hear it. I cant imagine someone not liking this song...
You've gotta hear "This time I'm in it for love", also by Player.
I graduated in 1974,,this brings back alot of memories for me,,wow the 70s rocked
Gotta do Little River Band. So many great songs from them like “Lady” (my favorite), “Lonesome Loser”, “Reminiscing” (their biggest hit), Reminiscing first !!! Also Steely Dan FM maybe a horn in FM :)
Takes me right back to late 77, early 78. Saturday Night Fever was huge at the time.
Yes. Playing in the back ground of college life, boyfriend drama, football games, discco and fun dancing all night to everything. Great variety. We were blessed to have a huge amount of positivity pumping through the radio along with immense talent. Sorry for this generation who goes for the thug life . The weren't exposed to this but rather hate, vulgarity, immorality is pushed and its supposed to be " cool". Bring back more love and kindness in music! It's powerful!
Love this song. I couldn’t tell you anymore songs they sing but this was a favorite. Also, I can’t believe you have no BEE GEES. They are the kings of love songs. Also of course disco. My favorite are their non disco songs. Try “Too Much Heaven”. Definitely watch the video version.
Agreed but only bc The Bee Gees (like The Carpenters) are Music Reaction Channel 101 requirements.
The nights on Broadway!
In that picture, the guy on the left is the lead guitarist and the main singer.
Sunken lounge room, yes, it was a great look! Great song, takes me back...
What is now called Yacht Rock. Just listen to Sirius Radio’s Yacht Rock channel for all kinds of similar songs. I don’t know when the Yacht Rock term came about. I think we used to just call it soft rock.
I remember "always" hearing this song on the speakers at the local swimming pool during those 'endless' Summers, you had, only when you were a kid!
The subject matter of this song actually occurred to me and my husband before marriage while we were dating. He broke up with me and quickly became very very sorry. He begged me to get back together. He really didnt need to beg cause i loved him very much and we got married soon after. We are celebrating our 36th year of marriage this august and are more in love than when we first got together. very special and magical
AWW! So sweet!
That is so beautiful. Thank you for sharing it.
the design term you're looking for is "sunken living room". it was used to create the illusion of more space and yes, very late '60s and '70s-esque.
and yes, fruit scarf guy, bass player ron moss, starred as ridge on the cbs soap "the bold and the beautiful" for YEARS, decades maybe.
i also never realised til now how much the chorus sounds like the band ambrosia 🤔 y'all should check out "how much i feel" by them - my favourite of theirs ❤
Ridge was the keyboard player haha
The Bass Player is Ronn Moss. I was more familiar with him playing Ridge Forrester on Bold & The Beautiful (87-2012) before knowing he was in this band. LOL
Anybody can get down with this song!!
The video is everything. Three incredibly hot guys singing and playing R&B. That’s what a lot of “ yacht or soft” rock is. R&B haters hate it. Do you guys consider Steely Dan to be soft rock ? I think they’re the best and most complex group of all time. There’s lots of great music everywhere.
Steely Dan is their own category. NOT soft rock
@@yourebusted5786 I totally agree. But these fellows would call it that.
Oh yeah you’re going to love this one
Guys...if i ever win the lottery...I am buying you a morning show...the dynamic between the 3 of you is classic. Had a few spit out my coffee moments with you guys. Loud ass laughing. Dont change a thing. FiRE
Wife Speaking..Always love listening to your philosophies!!! and humor!!!
Yes!! The ‘70s were easy going, happy and sensual all rolled up into one!!🙂
This is what we called baby making music
Classic--one of my all time favorites! Player and this song is fire! You should watch the video!
Great song watch the video of Player performing it.
The live performance video is also great. You guys would love it.
Yeah, everyone plays the video for the best experience. Come on guys, this needs a do over!
Still one of my favorite songs of all time, but especially from the 70's!
One of the band members became famous for being one of the leads for a very long time in the BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL soap opera.
Ridge!!!😍
Ronn Moss. His sister Donna styled hair for the show.
I remember Ronn Moss from a movie that played frequently on Cinemax After Dark in the late '80's & '90's called "Hard Ticket to Hawaii".
Kind of sounds like a Hall and Oates song but came out before they hit the charts. And the guitar outro reminds me of a Steely Dan fade out. Great song y'all!
great video to this song also.
Hall and Oates were asked to sing their song Baby Come Back..They had to explain that it was Not 2:34 "Their" song! ❤
The guy wearing the scarf later found himself acting in a soap opera called’The Bold and the Beautiful’. He played Ridge Forrester.
Oh boy, they gonna love this one 😎
you should react to the music video for this to see how talented they really are, playing the instruments etc. Love you guys!
It’s 70 s my brothers they got it but todays singers with auto tune they don’t got it
The radio edit actually takes out the guitar solo and repeats the chorus during the fade-out.
It’s known as a sunken living room, LOL. The guy with the scarf was the lead on soap opera “bold and beautiful.” I remember being shocked recently to know he was in this band on such a well known song.
That man's voice is smooth & on point. High notes too? What more can you ask for? Complete perfection. He just sounds so sexy.
I think I still have this 45 single. Love it.
Pretty sure I had a 45 of it
What was on the flip side?
LOL, we had one in our home. It is called a "sunken living room" (complete with shag carpet).
This is the all time "People know the song but can't tell you who sings it" record.
LOVE this song, love this band forever. This song is boss forever.
the dude with the scarf,is the bass player, and he was a famous soap opera heart throb, for many years at the same time.
This song has been sometimes mistaken for being an Ambrosia song. Ironically, the guitar player & singer on this song is Peter Beckett. He has toured with Ambrosia on and off for a couple of years.
Now that you mention it, it has a similar sound and vibe as How Much I Feel.
Peter Beckett co-wrote the song.
You know the guys would go Gaga for Ambrosia. Hopefully soon! 🤞
Ryan sporting the old Minneapolis Laker's uniform from way back in the day.
True story how they can came up with name PLAYER.
At end of movies in early cinema, they used to list The Players In the movie. And Peter Becket saw that and came up with that as band name, except he said one word, PLAYER!
This was a huge hit for Player. Easy to like this song. Easy listening for sure.
It's good, even very good, I don't know what else to add, the song cheered me up, good music 👍😚
this song have always been a song on my love song list.
Sunken living rooms were big back in the day. ... In a similar vein, you might like the song "Kiss You All Over" by Exile from 1978. I don't think it's soft rock, but it is definitely pop rock. Like "Baby Come Back," it also reached No. 1 in the U.S.
I've heard this song hundreds of times, yesterday and today. It's fantastic! A masterpiece to me. Thanks Player.
All I kept hearing the middle guy say was "If loving you is wrong, I don't want to be right". 🤣
You're right not to care. It IS so good.
All genres have a formula of sorts. This song has ALL the right elements in perfect proportion. And then it sprinkles some magic dust.
You got it right when you said that it's equally good all the way through. It grabs you from the first solo beat of the drum, then the layers fill it out, that unique baseline, the amazing vocals, harmonies. Surprising bridge. At no point do you ever disengage. Those pauses leave you anticipating. And then the end surprises you, fading away with you still willing to hear more from that guitar.
It's magic. Don't fight the feeling!
The guy with the scarf is Ronn Moss and he was always in the scarfs. He went on to be on Bold and the beautiful as Ridge Forester and played that role for 20 something years. I think almost 30 years in fact. But in the later part of the show, he wore a lot of scarves and still does to this day.
Gotta listen to some Pablo Cruise and Alan Parsons.
Pablo Cruise: Find Your Place in the Sun
Pablo Cruise: Runnin’ and Zero to Sixty in Five
LOVE Allen Parsons
Saw Player as the opening act for Heart in Minneapolis, 1979. Excellent live.
Put on your list of soft rock, Poco - Crazy Love and In the Heart of the Night.
The 2 grooviest Yacht Rock classics have never been on the 502
1) Ozark Mountain Daredevils- Jackie Blue
2) Dobie Gray- Drift Away
I'm guessing these 2 will be at the top of the 502's list..
Yes! OMD!!!!
@@Daisy_982 Both Tracks the 502 would love!!
it is a really great song. all of it, thanks for reviewing it
Do not tease us with this! Can’t wait ❤
