Chris Rea is just phenomenal :) He has gone through pancreatic cancer and two strokes the past 15-20 years. Love you Chris and i hope you`re doing as well as possible :)
So glad you didn`t choose the watered down radio version, not many people know this true version exists...Bravo.
Actually, the radio version is "The Road to Hell Part 2".
The section where he speaks/sings without music is "The Road to Hell Part 1". And you're right, playing them together is the best way to listen to it. Awesome song!!!
This is The Road to hell p 1 & 2. I refer you to the album
A true artist and legend. Underrated by the masses, worshipped by those who know.
amen brother!
Chris Rea: A very GREAT artist
Oh my .... Chris Rea is a legend in UK & main land Europe! He has SO many iconic songs of the 80s and 90s. You love Mark Knopfler - you will LOVE Chris Rea! Check out "On the beach", "Josephine" "Driving home for chistmas" COME ON!!! You know that one .-) or check out "I can hear your heartbeat" 🙂
Chris was also a keen racing driver. He once drove as a guest driver in the German DTM. I've been a fan for many years. He had great hits, but a lot of health problems.
"Auberge" "Windy Town"
He’s a master of slide guitar style in the business. The whole Road to Hell album is brilliant.
I understand that Chris wrote this while stuck in traffic on a wet day on the M25, (London outer ring road.}. I live near the M25 near Dartford. It is the road to hell. When it gets jammed up, they call it the biggest carpark in England.
Chris Rea is just fantastic, he has been at deaths door and battled serious illness to continue to create great music, not know as well as some but an extraordinary guitar player and song writer, I've had the pleasure to see him live a number of times down the years, just brilliant.
Yes you're right, we nearly lost him he was on the critical list for some time, and I thought that he had died but thankfully he pull through
Fantastic track, stands the test of time.
Chris Rea has got some great songs. He might even pop an egg into a bath for you.😅
Chris Rea is a monster musician including writing 8 disc of Blues Music and the story book of the blues history. However he crosses many Genre so check this musician out. Try his album Auberge - any song off of it rates top marks. I like "You're Not A Number" and "Every Second Counts" . The song "The Mention Of Your Name" might grab a little at your heart but he has many uplifting songs as well. Probably a couple 100 hits.
You called Chris Rea a blues artist and basically he has been that all his life but he had the "misfortune" to have a hit very early in career with Fool (If You Think It's Over) and that sort of put him on to a poprock music trajectory but at its core all of his songs are all blues songs. In later years he even started to rearrange these in much more distinct blues fashion. By the time of Road To Hell he was in direct competition with Dire Straits and you got to admit that this song is very much in line with Money For Nothing from Brothers In Arms.
This was written by Chris when he was stuck in traffic on the M25 motorway, the M25 is the orbital motorway that runs around the outskirts of London, it was built to ease the congestion of traffic heading into the capital, but most of the time the traffic is so heavy that sometimes it can be at a standstill for long periods, this has earned it the nickname, London's carpark, other songs you could check out are On The Beach, Auberge, Josephine, Fool If You Think It's Over and I Can Hear Your Heartbeat, great reaction guys 🇬🇧
Gary, you beat me to it.!!! Lol😂
Even today, I try not to hit the 25 in daylight hours. It's so much better at 2am.!!!!
The absolute master of pop voices the superb, fantastic, and utterly musically talented Chris Rea possibly thee most underrated pop singer songwriter the world has ever known. This guy is a living legend and someone who’s gone through hell on his own with his health in the last few years but god bless you Chris your a musical genius and thanks for the music your No1 fan in Dunfermline Scotland.
I remember calling my wife once from the M25:
"Sorry love, I'll be a bit late getting home, the M25 is closed by an accident"
"How do you know that?
"Because I'm in it....!"
I've heard this song many times over the years and it is even more poignant today than it was when it was first released back in '89! At least we can't say that nobody ever tried to warn us!
hello very good reaction on chris rea I advise you. nothing to fear from chris rea good listening kisses
I had the good fortune of seeing Chris Rea live in Newcastle a long time ago. His voice blew me away, and his slide guitar technique is incredible. I've always loved him. He has some cracking songs and is exceptional live.
I’m so greatful that I saw this live in 1990. It was amazing. Thank you Chris Rea for giving me one of the greatest musical performances of my life.
I’ve seen him on stage 30 years ago in Lyon, France with my mum.
Yet, my mum is 89’ and she still dance and enjoy Chris Rea. The same with Dire Straits...❤
Thanks and take care of you❤
an underrated rock artist, a wonderful person, a unique voice and wonderful music. Look for his live music and you will appreciate him so much more!
This is underrated song.. one of my favorites!
What a Musician this man is, amazing. Another two of my favourites of his are Down on The Beach and Fool if You Think It's Over. You two guys are so appreciative of our British Artists, it's so refreshing to see. Amazing, you now have another sub 👍👍
I've spent many happy hours stationary on the M25, usually in the rain. This brigs back happy memories of the road to hell.
I heard this song when i was 13, it still gives me chills.
1993 I heard this and…..I was hooked instantly I must have played this album a 100 times still rocks !!!😊
His sings like a cleaned up version of Tom Waits 😆
jajaja yeahh a Tom Waits without bourbon, tequila and cigars!
That whole album is great...every song..remember he is a superior lyricist. Listen and enjoy. EPITAPH-ART
A lovely reaction! So full of appreciation of Chris's voice & message. Thank you I enjoyed your reaction and feedback. ❤😊
" Texas " " Looking For A Rainbow " " Daytona " just a few you need to check out......
This is in Reference to Driving on The M.25 Motorway which circles London, its A Nightmare,
Chris Rea is prolly most under rated musician in rock history. This guy is top level in both singing, playing and writing. He's one of the best .
Hi, I love watching your videos. You are such a lovely couple❤. My husband and I are massive Chris Rea fans and also Richard Hawley. A beautiful song and very special to us is Chris Rea singing 'Because Of You' . I think you will both like that one and it would be great if you reviewed it.❤
Every song on that album is great. He is the greatest guitarist and the greatest lyricest.hundreds of songs. Better than EPITAPH. REMEMBER ME?
Chris Rea was under the big influence of Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits back then...
I still think Bambolini is Chris' best song (well at least for me), but this is definitely in my top-5 at least! There are a couple of others i defintely enjoy more than this one, one of them is Bambolini another is Auberge and i would also put Curse Of The Traveler above this one as well, but that's just me...in general i preffer Chris' early music spanning late 70's and mid 80's (On The Beach is the last album i really like almost entirely...aside from titular song from the album of the same name - Road To Hell i'm not a huge fan of any other song, that came out of that album...), so songs like Road To Hell or Auberge are extremely rare exceptions in my book! up until 1985 On The Beach album you would have me playing like 70% or sometimes even all 100% of all the songs from each album in my Chris Rea playlist, with only a handful of songs not on my playlist spanning that late 70's mid 80's period of his illustrious career! But after 1985 it kind of went down drastically for me...i find "later" songs much harder to enjoy! Like i said Road To Hell and Auberge are only and sole exceptions! I tried listening to everything else, but can't get into it...
Dominica was correct. English has two similar words with slightly different meanings:
Distinct - clearly and noticeably different; OR strong and definite
Distinctive - having a quality or characteristic that makes a person or thing different from others OR appealing/interesting because of a special quality or characteristic
TBH I get these two mixed up, and I suspect many other English people do also.
The song is about the M25 Motorway (Freeway in the US) also known as the London Orbital, the road is notorious for hardly moving during certain times of the day and its about life
If you love this, i´ll recommend you to listen to Eric Burdon´s album "Soul of a man".
Simply outstanding album.
Cheers guys
This first section, where he is talking about his mom, still gives me goosebumps..... such an atmospheric piece.
hi , could you both give a chance to TANGO ?one song tiempos viejos- julio sosa or mano a mano -carlos gardel -- thanks
The road to hell is absolutely his best album! Only the last song on it I can't listen to. 😄
Listen to albums!!! Songs are often shortened/butchered for radio. Album versions are always the best!
Nowadays top40 is by large unlistenable anyway so search out music outside of it....infinitely better and always whole albums that form a coherent collection of songs.
Your best reaction. Not dumbass at all. Chris Rea Rocks.
A lovely song that makes you think about life is The Cats in the cradle by Harry Chapin. Always make time for your kids.
Hi guys, I’ve always loved this one. You really must do Curse of the Traveler, very much in the same vein, Coool
Where you stuck at this time ? junction 27 the day before it was Dartford and tomorrow it will probably be Heathrow.
prefer the version with the english rockers riding there motorcyles reminds me of 1971s rockers when I had my triton motorcycle
PS.'Wired to the moon' next. You will not believe the contrast❤
It's really just about being stuck in traffic.
I can confirm the 25 sucks especially when am trying t get back home up north lol
Try listening to Daytona (it's about the Ferrari Daytona) on the same album & the last ding on the album called "Tell me there's a heaven" it's one of the most beautiful songs ever,I used to play it to my children in the car when they were young,& they'd always wait till the last little note because they knew it'd make me cry
I read a couple years ago that he didn't even start playing the guitar till he was around 21 years old. Would like to know if it's true...🤔
I used to have a coffee with Chris at his parents coffee bar in Middlesbrough plus I worked at the same place as his mother in law
"eleven years in England."
what were you in for?
Please reaction to Human League - Human
I'd forgotten how good he was apart from comedy stories by his mate Bob Mortimer.
Seasick Steve is another good artist you should check out 🎶 🎵
Any song that's a longer version of a Chris Rea song played on the radio is always the best version. Usually found on the albums and even then your left thinking if only this was longer.
Forget racist England come to Scotland!
LISTEN TO THE ALBUM (AUBERGE) BY CHRIS REA. (BRILLIANT)
Chris Rea is originally from my home town of Middlesbrough, England.
Filmed on the A40 Westbound.
And we all know what the road to hell is,It is the M25 that goes around london and can turn into a car park.
I seen him in a concert in a place called slain in Ireland and he was just brilliant, Now this was years ago in the 80tees
Can I just say what a very nice couple the two of you are and can I ask if you like a song (like this one)do you play it when you are off tv
He has so many other great songs as well. This is probably his best but you should check out Texas and at the beach.
I remember seeing Chris Rea at Wembley Arena in late1989 when The Road to Hell album had just been released. The band started the concert with The Road to Hell and it was amazing. The stage was in total darkness as Chris did the monologue in that deep brown voice, then as that finished, the band kicked in at the same time as the stage became a blaze of light. It was an unforgettable start to the concert. Chris has released so many great albums. I especially like On the Beach, Dancing With Strangers, Auberge, The Blue Jukebox and King of the Beach. New Light Through Old Windows, is an excellent compilation of Chris' most popular songs for any newcomers to his catalogue. Great reaction as always from you both, keep up the good work.🙏
The last time I heard this incredible song was in November last year when I drove with my brother from the M25 just outside London on the M1 Motorway to Rugby. I got stuck in a traffic jam due to an accident just as this song came on the radio. With the irony of this song, instead of getting mad, we both just laughed, and the look we got from the driver beside us made us laugh even more.
Fantastic song from Chris Rea, he has lots and lots of great songs, he is a top class slide guitar player too, has lots of similarities to Mark Knopfler, the great writing, the voice, the guitar, try Soft Top Hard Shoulder from Chris next.
In The album the song is spltted in part one and two. The Second one was released as a single. Texas, from the same album is another great song.
Chris Rea has a habit of putting out multiple versions of the same song.
Some of them are merely extended, but others are drastically different in tone, tempo and instrumentation.
I bought and owned this on 12 inch vinyl, I wore it out.
chris Rea is also the lead guitar player !
England definitely is missing 2 angels.
I had love to give u alot candy... this is 1 but omg I have looootslove you guys
Looking for the Summer !!!
So glad you played part 1 & part 2,he's originally from Middlesbrough (about 25 miles from me down the A19) 1st time I heard his voice & guitar playing that was it,& I've been listening to him for 40 years 👍
Sounds a little bit like Dire Straits
Texas would be a good song to listen to next.
Great singer & guitarist.
The A7 (southbound) said him👉 🤟🦁
on the album i think it's as a part 1 and part 2 road to hell.
Auberge next by Chris
Chris is awesome. ...Fool lf you think it's over..is another great Chris Rea Song❤
Chris never dissapoints!
This song is about the M25
"Distinct" and "Distinguished" both work equally well!
Distinctive is the word I think she was searching for. But, they all work well.
Absolute banger
A real masterpiece - i always love your reactions
Chris Rea ...a Rabbit Hole, worth to dig it. 😊👍
please more Chris Rea
Road to hell album is amazing not a bad song on it, a true classic album
