My dad collected this original run and it was the first time I ever read a complete volume of a character. He quickly became my favorite marvel hero of all time. This run got me to start collecting comics. 😊 and now I can't stop hahaha
Been reading Nova since 1976, fortunate to possess all of his pre-New Warriors appearances (including the often forgotten What-If vol. 1 stories; #15, #36). Understand why ROM is not here, but not why What-If vol. 1 #15 is missing. Certainly will purchase the Omnibus. Thanks for the video.
I’m kind of surprised that this went the omnibus route without being Masterworked first. There aren’t that many 70s series left that haven’t gotten the masterworks treatment.
What brought me to this omnibus was that this aspect of Marvel has always been a dark spot for me, I started reading comics in the early '80s and that was focused on Spider-Man, the X-Men, some Punisher, Daredevil...but I never understood the cosmic side at all. For that reason I'm super glad to get the recent Captain Mar-vell and Nova Omnibuses.
New Warriors got me into Nova. I'm really excited for this! I'm a little sad there's not a volume 1 on the spine. That probably means his later series won't be collected.
There’s always a chance- Marvel likes to separate different runs (Fantastic Four, X-Men to Uncanny X-Men for example). Got my fingers crossed that they release the Abnett and Lanning run!! That was my full intro to Nova
@James S did you get the Thanos Wars! I had already read the chronology of Thanos torrent back in the day but having it in oversized format on my shelf means alot.
Love Nova. Issue #21 was one of the first comic books I ever read. It was in a shoebox full of comics my dad gave me for Christmas in 1979. I was 5 years old and that box set me on a lifelong love of comics. I’m definitely picking this up. Though I am kinda bummed that What If? #15 isn’t included. It’s the one where the power of Nova was bestowed on four different people other than Richard Rider. Some really fun stuff in that issue.
I ordered this as soon as I saw it was coming out. Not long after I got into Comics as a kid in the 70s my Uncle gave me a bunch of random issues of comics from different characters. A couple of those were Nova. I immediately thought his costume was one of the best looking and coolest I had ever seen. Unfortunately I was never able to read the entire run which is why I am so looking forward to getting this. Super happy Marvel is releasing this.
The kree/xandar war were some of my earliest Fantastic Four comics, and i liked Nova and the Sphinx in them. Later he had the cross-over with Spider-man. When i heard he wouls be in the New Warriors, i was very happy. (one of the many reasons why i love the New Warriors). This omnibus collects so much extra material , outside the Nova series! Probally going to get this. Thanks for the review Omar. Suprised to see the Yellow Claw and Rom (drawn only, not named) in this.
I knew who Nova was as a kid but had never read anything with him until New Warriors came onto the scene. Received my Omni the other day. Very happy with it. Absolutely love the fact that they added the oddball Sphinx appearances considering how much he ties to Nova and the New Warriors due to Nova. Now we need a Volume 2 collecting Vol 2 and Vol 3. Or a New Warriors companion Omni reprinting those series along with the Night Thrasher series and New Warriors Vol 2.
Always loved that #1 cover! With so many books coming out this one might not fit into the budget but I’d really like to revisit a lot of these stories. Thanks Omar, great overview!
Picked up the entire original run when it first came out in the 70's. Still have them. Loved this comic. This is what a comic should be, not the garbage that is puked out from Marvel and DC these days. Your right, what made him different from others in the comics was his family. He had one like most of us. Same here also about the Sphinks battle issue. I also was in awe of how much Richard took from Sphinks and still would not give up. Great writing from the late great Mr. Wolfman. Also as a man that has read comics since the late 60's with 4 color newsprint the bleedthrough of pages does not bother me. This gen is just spoiled rotten and way too sensitive about these things.
What drew me to this omnibus, Omar, was seeing it on the book shelves in the background on all your videos for the last month or two and wondering when you would finally do a first look overview on it? Talk about the effects of good product placement. Lol. Actually I’ve been waiting a long time for it to be collected into a omnibus. I used to love collecting all the Bronze Age 1970s comics and that included the original Nova series. Now if they could collect the original Marvel Team-Up and The Marvel Two In One series into Omnibuses …… 😀
I started buying Nova originally issue by issue as they came out. I’ve always been a fan of this series. Im so happy that Marvel collected them in one book.
I think my first encounter might have been through the Spider-Girl series but I became a fan from Annihilation and the modern cosmic saga. It always brings a smile to my face when Al Ewing brings him into issues of X-Men Red as he did with Guardians of the Galaxy.
I saw Nova (Sam Alexander) in a Marvel Superheroes book with some stats of some Heroes and villains, and I just loved all about him, when I was 10. Then I read his comics and got more and more into Marvel and Nova in general, and I get in love with Richard Rider Nova more and more, when I grew up. Absolutely amazing character!
Wow deep cut on Mega Man/CrashMan yes i love that game and remember that box art! Definitely a fan of Rich Rider Nova from New Warriors, so I'm interested in reading this as I always wanted to compare with the 90s Nova. Thanks as always for a great review.

I pre-ordered the DM cover, but I'm worried because it hasn't shipped yet. I really want this one! I haven't even read this series, but you had me at Bronze Age + cosmic. And, like you, I've always liked Nova's costume design.
It doesn't release until tomorrow. Mine will ship Wednesday and arrive Friday. Unless they ship it usps, then Sat or Mon. Which they probably will since its less than a 1000 pages
@@PurifyWithLight Thanks, it's just that some books will ship before the actual release date when I order from my preferred retailer. The Marc Spector Omni is already on its way, so I'm hoping this one soon will be too.

This one is a biggie for me. One of the few books I had a complete run of as they came out in the 70s that was lost to Hurricane Ida a couple of years ago. Marv Wolfman remains one of my favorite writers from the 70s and Nova, along with Tomb of Dracula, is one of my favorite titles which he wrote.
I doubt it just because i don't think there is enough material to make an omni, i have both tpb from years ago and think it'd be an epic collection if possible.
Bought this along with New Warriors Vol 1, even though the latter is OOP right now. Really want to dive into Nova and I gotta give New Warriors a shot with your absolute passion for that series.

Blue Blazes - no Rom 24! I'm really pleased this ones finally out, been waiting for it for a long while. I read Nova when it originally came out in the 70's, mainly the U.S issues and sometimes in the pages or Rampage over here in the UK (a Marvel UK title that he shared the pages of with the Defenders). Loved the series first time round with its slight Spidey vibe, and I thought the supporting cast of villains were all pretty solid for the time too considering they were all new. There are a number of panels they could have easily lifted from it and avoided Rom being in it, especially the final third of the issue with the Diamondhead battle and his fate at the end. This could have definitely been used with some text to describe around it, instead of just that short text piece in the video here. It should have been an "includes material from" thing. It’s a shame about Rom though I’ve not given up hope that Marvel will one day soon be able to collect all their work on Rom into a couple of Omnibuses. As for the Kid Nova name, I think it was because during his absence, Marvel introduced a new character called Nova in the Fantastic Four book who went on to become the new Herald of Galactus so when they brought Richard back, they had to change his name to Kid Nova. Still weird though having a character who started his original series as the Man called Nova to suddenly became Kid Nova a decade or so later. Normally it’s done the other way round. Lol.
@@Rphulk Oh yes - I was aware of the Frankie Raye Nova in FF, the Kid Nova thing just sounded silly after previously going by his proper name. Rom omnibuses (like Micronauts) are certainly near the top of a lot of folks hit lists I'd say.

Good overview as always, Omar. What in the content of the comics warranted that woke trigger warning? Or is that just standard issue now for all omnibi? Also, no letters pages? C'mon, Marvel, even DC has finally caught on that fans want to read those letters from the OGs who first read these books.
Sadly the paper quality makes this a miss for me again. One can see the effect very clearly when your hand blocks the light. Seems to me cost cutting from the producer finishes my hobby. Better for my wallet.
What do you mean the video games weren't a valid way to get into Nova? Nova was sweet in Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 and how DARE you gatekeep Nova Fandom?! For shame, Omar
I think he means by story, I'm still proud marvel ultimate alliance had Moon knight, Deadpool and Luke Cage in 2006 and Marvel vs Capcom 3 having M.O.D.O.K and Rocket raccoon in 2010... It's not how you learn about a character it's trying to read everything in order that makes you a fan 📚
What killed Nova for me was when Carmine Infantino took over as artist. He was a absolutely NOT the right artist for Nova. Also, after the spiderman crossover Wolfman just didnt seem to give a damn anymore and it reflected in his writing. It's a shame cause the first twelve issues were really entertaing.
Does anybody else's copy smell like it came out of a sewer? I know marvel loves to print omni's on toilet paper but have they now switched to used recycled toilet paper???
Not gonna lie, his costume was and still is freaking badass. Glad that Nova got more attention as he deserves in Annihilation event, and later
That 2006-2011 Marvel Cosmic era was when I got into Nova. The DnA run was the run that I grew up with. So yes. I will be picking this up.
