One more thing I got a tip. Everytime you wash a piece of clothing hang it up and hang the hanger backwards on the rack. If after a month you have things you never wore then get rid of it.

I was in the US Navy 79 - 87. I once met a Senior enlisted sailor who had been in Vietnam. He told me, when he was in Vietnam, everything he owned fit in his duffle bag. Uniforms, a change of civilian clothes, and his prized possession, a Breitling Aviators watch. He spent a year's pay to acquire that watch. He told me once (when he was about to retire) you know I have a house, a three-car garage, two cars, all kinds of stuff. And, I think I was happier when everything fit in my duffle bag.

Lol, honey I clean houses, your home is beautiful....from a cleaning lady's perspective! Homes are meant to be lived in.
On that note I agree, STOP TAKE STUFF FROM OTHER PEOPLE. We don't need things we don't need. All your advice is great! I give these same advices to my clients.
Wire management is so important! Declutter and also "out with the old in with the new" Don't buy anything new until you get rid of some things first.
    Very nice video!

"I tend to be a pretty messy person. Let me show you what my house is actually looking like right now." ...proceeds to show us the cleanest house I've ever seen.
I used the robo-vacuum trick on myself about a year ago, and it worked quite well. I knew I'd be forced to keep the floor uncluttered because the robot would get stuck if I didn't. It's not the perfect trick (since I can just...not run the robot), but it works pretty well since I like having swept floors and I'm sure not going to sweep them myself.

Your "messy" house looks pristine compared to my house. But here's what I do when the mess looks overwhelming. Set a small kitchen timer for 10 minutes. Work with full concentration and efficiency for those 10 minutes. When the time goes off, go sit and do something else.
Okay, the house is still messy, but it's "ten minutes" less messy then before you started. Then clean for another ten minutes, and so forth.

Whenever I'm leaving one room to head into another, I see if there's anything I can grab and put back in that trip. At the very least, I can move things closer to the room they go in, even if I don't have time to put them away. I have a lot of fatigue and have to prioritize my energy pretty strictly, so anything that makes me more efficient is helpful. Since watching your channel, I've been a lot better about thinking through purchases-- I try to visualize them in my home and how much use they might get, and if it will ultimately be satisfying for the long-term. A lot of things really aren't, so in that, being slower helps.

OMG yes! Say no to the free stuff. I’ve always hated clutter so the deal with my kids was that they could have their bedrooms look like complete pig pens but the common areas of the house, the spaces we had to share, had to be kept tidy. For the most part it worked really well. I’d also leave a basket on the stairs and anything that needed to go upstairs went into the basket. If you were going past the basket, grab the contents and put them away. I also love baskets with lids - eliminate the visual clutter.
Final rule - 2 items out before 1 new item comes in.

I have one tip for people who struggle with small items that they MIGHT need in the future. Consider how much that item is worth buying a new one and set how much are you willing to spend if you need to buy it in the future. For me, if the item is worth less than 15 euros, I throw it away / recycle or give it away. Paying 15 euros if I need it again seems like a good deal for not having a bunch of stuff laying around without any purpose.

I think a big thing we struggle with is shoes. Our weather where we live is all over the place, so before we know it we’ve got 10 pairs of shoes by the door “just in case” we wanna wear them that day. So now I’m thinking of only putting a couple pairs on the mat by the door of the ones we wear most often. It’s pure laziness of not wanting to go into the closet to grab shoes 🙄

Great tips for keeping your house clutter free! I'll start with the one for paper clutter because that's what has been lying around right now of 2 weeks. Regarding the vacuum robot, I have one too but it really bugs me that the dust receiver is so small and I have to empty it each time and change the dust filter, which is another mess to clean. Granted, when I start the vacuum, it's already rather dusty. How do you handle the frequent cleaning of the dust receptacle?

    • @NoName-ik2du
      @NoName-ik2du 9 месяцев назад

They make units that have a home base that automatically empties the little bin on the robot into a bigger bag that you don't have to constantly mess with. With mine the big bag lasts about a year before it needs to be changed (I have a small house). I don't think I'd ever use my cleaning robot if I had to manually empty its bin every time I ran it.

I keep telling her don't buy me anything yet she keeps doing it. I'm trying to declutter. She also got me an electric panini maker which is rarely going to be used and will take up space on my counter or cupboard.

You touched on everything should have a home. I want to say specifically when it comes to clothes, shoes, purses or bags, and socks. Often people have well beyond their means. Nobody needs 20 pairs of shoes. Nobody needs a new purse or bag for each day or month. It isn't necessary to have so many clothes the dresser is jammed full. 8 shirts and 8 pants or even less should be sufficient. Some winter and some summer. I see these people with HUGE closets and it looks like a department store in their closets. Why? I also don't understand people who never do laundry til they run out of clothes. I do laundry pretty much daily if not every other day. I have kids though. If it was just me and my husband it would be less. Same goes for food. People can buy canned items in bulk or paper products but some go overboard buying food and it's a waste of money. Clutters kitchen and fridge. I have a pantry and everything's got a place and labeled.

I can't STAND paper clutter. When I get the mail, I walk straight to the garbage can and toss any junk. Then, if there are any bills, I put them on my desk in the "to be paid" pile.
Speaking of bills, most of them are on auto pay, preferably on the credit card, so we get cash back! Then we basically only have 1 other bill to pay besides the mortgage. 🙂
