You guys. I was at Live 8, not Live Aid. I wasn't even alive in 1985 😂
Lol 😆
Being an old guy myself (I technically could have been at Live Aid, though I would have only been 9 years old) I am intensely jealous that you got to see Neil Young AND Gordon Lightfoot on the same day!
😂but I was 😅
1985 was a ripper! I was 12. Awesome days! 😊
My son was born on the day of Live Aid. Best day ever!
Ha ha! My first concert, in 1965, when I was 15 years old, was The Beatles, at Maple Leaf Gardens in ...Toronto! :) We drove over a thousand miles to get there, but my ticket was only $12 (American dollars.) Can you imagine that happening now?
If you ever want to come to New Zealand, you can stay with me for free. I am a single female, no kids, semi rural for my 2 doggos. Retired at 35. Stoicism and minimalism rock! And Ben Franklyn's, industrious and frugal mantra is me all over. I think we have similar tastes in music, and although I'm older, we'd surely get al9ng based on our similar values and need for copious sleep! You are welcome to use my place as a base and travel the country! Authentic offer. Jo in northland NZ. Loving your channel's content and your honesty and humour. Keep it up! 🐶🥦🌞🎸🎶
Forever in Blue Jeans - :) Love that song.
To be perfectly honest, I think that your streamlined decor and dress style gives an impression of being very different to the average person, which some people may think of as extreme. I did at first, but getting to know you via your videos, I see that you're casual, down to earth, easygoing, etc. I enjoy your videos a lot. 😊
I agree with this completely. I think some of the time I made assumptions that I have since realized were incorrect. For example I have a lot of clothes and accessories in bold colors and initially would have thought you (Nicole) would really judge that.
RE: The Pink Tax For Personal Care Items
I go for unscented products exclusively. That means I can get away with using traditional "men's" products. If I want scent; that's what perfume is for, in my book.
I've also converted to making my own soft body soap, shampoos and hand soaps; and have used essential oils to provide scent. I have my favorites in the essential oil category and stick exclusively with them.
Finally, on some clothing, the sizes can be interchangeable on some items; like sweaters and sweats. If the sleeves or legs are too long; I fold them up. And occasionally, I can get away with purchasing from the boys section, as well.
There is always another way ....
I find mens razors are the best, not only cheaper than women's but get closer shave.
Well done, hobby and you know what goes into the products you make....
Your channel is a safe place for all of us who just want to be ourselves without conforming to the standards of society. I love and look forward to every blog that you post!
Rich people who never struggled will not "get it" and think you are going overboard. I am totally into frugality, and you feel like a fellow friend.
That’s fair, and I agree. But I’m still waiting for someone to explain to me how it’s overboard to not rack up credit card debt buying stuff I don’t need or want 🤷🏼♀️
Yup. My best friend is a trust fund kid. She thinks it’s crazy how I spend my money.
"Forever in blue jeans?" What at a classic, lovable track. I didnt see that one coming. Impressive.
I loved your answers about friendships and spending money. I feel like my girlfriends and I overspent a lot in our thirties just feeling like we had to go to the hip bars and restaurants every time we hung out. Post-covid and in our forties we have definitely changed it up and typically bring a dish or bottle of wine to someone's house and hang out or do a craft or even do our nails. It's so much cheaper and just as fun.
If you hate looking at toes, Do Not go to southern California! You might be ok visiting NorCal in the winter, but as a native SoCal dude, flip flops are extremely common year round.
> "pink tax" shampoo example
I think a better example is the "Venus" razor. For shampoo, it's either marketed towards women (with no indication that it's for women) or "For Men" packaging with grey or black bottles because clearly it's manly. (Unnecessarily gendered products are a pet peeve of mine.)
Come on now. We all know the *real men* wash their hair with motor oil and leather scented shampoo. 😂
That's why I use "good for the whole family" products when practical, like standard unscented soap and shampoo.
@@AccordingtoNicole Maybe not the ones who drive EVs!
Thanks!
I’m a previous spender. I rationalized that I was busting tail 70-80 hours a week so why not. I have in the past 4 years when things came to a grinding halt realized that I like spending time at home and cooking my own meals. Restaurant food has gone down and is stupid expensive now. I love ❤️ your channel. Very inspirational.
Congratulations! And I got monetized two days ago with just 1K subscribers and I want to thank you for that because your video's have inspired me so much. Also when I reached out to you for questions you have answered me personally. I feel that you are "real" and you are generous, wise and inspiring. So you deserve it more than anyone! Thank you so much again for being part of own RUclips journey.
Hurrah for 20,000! Well done! I think people follow because you offer excellent content…which can be a rare bird. I’ve never seen you as terribly frugal or a minimalist. To me you prioritize, which again is rare these days. I think often folks think they should have it all right now cause they want it. So let’s just charge it and figure out how to pay later…or not at all. So to me you live a common sense life. Which is, paradoxically not common at all.😂❤😂
Congrats on the 20K! I’m saving to buy a home and I was invited to go on a “girls night out” this Saturday. I have no problem doing this on a budget. If I couldn’t do it on a”my”budget , I wouldn’t go.
I LOVE CHUCK P!! One of my most revered possessions is a signed copy of his book Snuff that says, "To Stacie-who knows how to have a good time" 🤣🤣 It's like bro how did you know??? Also do you remember the old ass NFG DVD? I mean obviously you'd wanna be in that band "cat pissed on my sleeping baaaag"
*plugs nose*
though you swear that you are true... 🎶
Thanks for calm videos 😊
Thank you ❤
Regarding what you said about feet. Might want to shield your eyes if you watch a Quentin Tarantino movie. Haha.
Anyway glad I found your channel recently. So many things I agree with you about. When I heard you say something about K cups not being real coffee (and a horrible waste)..no joke you made feel euphoric because people think I'm nuts because I don't like them.
Congratulations 🎉🎉🎉, let's do 30K next!!💪
Travel further… to New Zealand-Aotearoa. You would like it here.
i dont know of alexis on fire . i must listen to some of their music . thanks for posting Nicole
Yay!! So excited to see a new video pop up! Would definitely love more Levi content in the future 😁😁
Your soo authentic bravo! 👍 you Will be very known as what’s reality is and taugh love mind ❤️
I think the reasoning behind the dating/minimalism/frugality question is more so a question of long term, like if you find yourself involved (long term) with a person who is not into minimalism or frugality it can make a lot of conflict down the road if things become serious. At least that's what I took the questions to mean. I was dating someone who did not have the same financial outlook as I had and I dismissed it because we were dating casually but then when it did turn into a serious relationship, it made for a lot of struggles and disagreements because we saw finances so very differently.
I don't think I'm unusually frugal or minimal. But no, I wouldn't be involved with someone longterm who couldn't manage their finances. I don't live in debt and would not take the burden of someone's debt for them.
I think this is a great point. I have a pretty good match with my husband when it comes to frugality and finances but we are not exactly matched. For example we are both debt free but I am more likely to "splash out" now and then whereas he is a truer minimalist. I am also more ambitious and have a different work ethic. But I do think we see eye to eye on the big things. I will say it can be a challenge when planning larger purchases because he is so practical whereas I am coming from a slightly different place. I was married earlier in life and it was the exact opposite as my former husband was the more ambitious and living large one in the marriage. It has to be a balance IMO (just speaking of long term relationships and marriage).
Congratulations!!
🎉congrats, Nicole!🎉
What a treat, nice surprise to have a new video on a week day and congrats on your 20,000 milestone.
Congrats on 20K!
My parents took me to Las Vegas when I was eight years old. While they gambled, the guard made me wait outside. What a vacation to remember in 1969.
My first concert was The Carpenters (indoors) and my first outdoor concert was Cat Stevens. I went with a friend of my mother's and pretty much had the same reaction to " skunk weed"! I was probably 13 at the time! Great concert, though! Congrats on 20k, and thank you for all of the videos you post!
Congrats! Next q&a at 100k? Love the story about Levi’s name ❤ and your first concert.
I enjoy these Q&A videos. congratulations on 20k subscribers. i'm happy to be one of them.
Thank you Nicole❤❤
Something to consider when coming to Toronto for concerts, or anything really, is parking outside the downtown of the city at a free to park GO station or get a taxi there and taking the TTC subway or GO trains down Town (bus and street car lines are too slow if going a long ways on them). I know it sounds strange when you have vehicle to not actually use it, but downtown TO is just crazy for parking and doesn't allow consuming "fun stuff" to enhance the concert experience. Just an option, and not necessarily for all cases.
I feel that exact same way about feet!! Lmao.
Also i think your calm demeanor is off-putting. I enjoy it but its so abnormal that people seem to think people like us are boring and robotic. I think its your personality that makes people think of you this way. Its a compliment even if they acknowledge it in confusion.
Congratulations Nicole! I look forward to your videos.
I feel like life gets better after your 20's. I had to learn the hard way w/ pretty much everything. So after enough fuck ups I decided to start fixing what was wrong. It wasn't that I meant to, I was just under educated and needed to spend time educating myself properly. So I did. I did that for myself. Our parents aren't rock stars. Sometimes, they dont really know either. But I am old enough now, & it's time to shoulder that responsibility. I am almost at my emergency savings goal, and from there I can start to build for what I want. Like you, financial stability. My end goal is to not pay rent & own my own slice of land, w/ a home built from the bones up. Looking at the progress I've made so far, really makes me feel good. I couldn't do it w/o help from these educational youtube influences. So, just know that you are so appreciated if you ever had any doubts.
Lol ohmylanta your first concert story had me in tears! Love it! Congrats on 20K. Love your channel and outlook on life.
I’m in the same situation with Woodstock. I would have been nine years old had I attended.
"Showing toes in public should be illegal." 😂😂😂
Hi Nicole - love your channel. I watched Live Aid - July 13th 1985. I was 17 years old at the time. The concerts were at Wembley Stadium in the UK , Philadelphia, Sydney. Australia where I’m from. Live Aid was organised by Bob Geldoff in aid of the starving children of Africa . Awesome concerts played live consecutively around the World at the same time. Loved it . Congrats on your 20k subscribers 🎉
I'm a fan of what you referred to as fluff content for fiction books as well, it's kind of my guilty pleasure lol. I also refer to them as airport reads. If you like those types of books, I'd highly recommend Clive Cusller's novels.
Heya from Australia, you should definitely come out here for a trip.
Loving your channel and what you are doing, well done on your financial achievements and sense. 💜😎
Congrats again on 20k!
Being on a budget doesn’t mean being in a straitjacket. Got to have some fun in life.
Funny story. A guy came to my apartment many times, and kept asking me drumming questions, picking my brain. I kept asking him the name of his band and could never remember. Finally wrote it down and looked it up. Turns out his band was #1 in Australia, Canada, US, Europe etc. "Alexis on Fire". "How do you keep in such good shape for tours?". Stop drinking, nail water and sleep well! Warm up before shows so you're at 100% at song number one. Similar thing with the drummer from Finger 11, Rich, except he just thanked me for reminding him what real music was, not just playing the album verbatim. You and I would get along great if I lived not in your house. I smoke, drink, eat meat. Everything else seems cool.
I have Blink 182 coming up in July, AND I CAN’T WAIT!!!!!!!
About people asking about your lifestyle and maintaining friendships, I don't think it's anything you've implied in your videos. I think some people are new with trying to get a handle on their finances and are worried about missing out or their friends asking asking questions when they start reigning in their spending. If you've been more frugal and careful with your finances for a while you're not worrying about that because it's just a part of your life already.
To me, minimalism is having only the things you need. And only what you enjoy, Eg, instruments and art and books for me. But I struggle with applying minimalism to sentimental items! Gah.
Very sorry to hear about your first concert experience 😢
for deodorant, men's Old Spice Tigerclaw stick smells like bubblegum and is a great option. all the others and the spray smell rather masculine, but not this one. i've been using it for years and love it. if you're interested.
They test on animals.
I agree with the term it's just common sense, that is what frugal, minimalist means. If More people used their common sense they wouldn"t be in debt or have to get rid of stuff
Choke was one of the first books I ever read, all of his books are equally bizarre if you end up reading another
Hey Nicholas!!! Love your videos heart 💜
The pink tax.....
Marketing is based on spending power,
You choose what to buy, and the price goes up collectively on brands women will pay more for.
A 4k sale price on a handbag isn't tax.
10:01 @according_to-nicole i hear the question coming from someone who feels like making those changes in their own life would put space or add friction in interactions with their friends who lead faster or pricier lifestyles.
Bahahaha, you made me laugh out loud, when you said, "I don't want to smell like a dude" 😅
New found glory any day, well done in 20k
Alexis is on fire
I was thinking my maths was really bad! A 29 year old at Live Aid?? At least you got to see the legend that is Neil Young. I saw him at Reading Festival
I came into this world naked, with nothing. That is how I want to exit it...I want to leave nothing behind...and I mean nothing.
Question I know in previous videos you’ve talked about the cordless stick vac you use regularly if I can ask what brand is it and how long do you think you’ve had it and do you still like it?
The exact one I have is from Amazon and is discontinued now, but it's very similar to this one: amzn.to/3HlCLvE
I've used a Dyson in the past and would say mine is about 80% as good at 1/4th the price so I'm pretty happy with it. Going on 4 years old and no complaints.
Awesome thanks for responding. It looks awesome for the price cordlesses can be so pricey.
I remember Live Aid. I think you and I must be the same age because I was also about 12 then.
I went to Live 8.
Live Aid was before my time. I’m 30
@@AccordingtoNicole I thought you looked way too young, but being that I'm almost 50 my eyes aren't so good anymore, lol. Live 8 makes way more sense, haha. Sorry about that. You definitely don't look 50
15:44 “As someone who practices common sense how do you make friends-how do you date?” Honestly, having common sense has made relationships with friends and partners pretty hard 😅
I purchase the blue razors. Cheaper! Btw, I love feet!😝
You look like a rockstar!👍
Pink tax... lol. I skip all products all together... water is fine.
98% of all products is "a scam".
As a newer subscriber, I'm going through some of your older content. When I saw that you had to slightly modify your wording to work around not waking Levi, I knew subscribing was the right choice!
I reward myself with the latest iPhone because I figure that I don’t drink or smoke.
❤❤
Regarding what makes people think you have weird social interactions: your IDGAF-what-anyone-thinks attitude, your repeated emphasis that eating out is a big waste of money, veganism (I'm veg and have been vegan and know how people react to that), your choice to take a different path when your peers went to university, the fact that you talk about how you like your dog more than humans, your rejection of capitalist social conventions around how women are supposed to dress and adorn themselves... None of these are bad qualities! Most if not all of them are admirable! But they do lead one to believe that having a social life is a very low priority for you. 😅
I don’t think you said anything extreme about minimalism (at least by my interpretation) as much as the status quo is to not be mindful about spending and accumulating. The status quo of mindless consumption is extreme and not conforming to that can be isolating…
If there is a pink tax, maybe it’s because women are responsible for something like 70 to 80% of consumer spending. I forgot the exact number, but the stat is something like that. So maybe if more women were frugal like you, companies would not raise the prices to try to take advantage. Just a guess on my part.
My wife buys men’s jacket because it is cheaper and stronger than women’s jacket.
Congrats on 20k follower!!! I tell everyone I know about your channel!!! And investing in QQQ or SP500 fund is genius and the way to go! I been trading stocks for over 20 yrs and I'm breaking even! Some go up and others go down! If I would've stayed with QQQ I would have doubled my money and more!
Okay, how far do you go with young Levi's feet, toes and claws - are they exempt from your foot aversion?
I imagine there was a lot of vomit at that one concert, since the whole place was wasted. That would have been a bad experience for anyone, let alone a 12 year old. But, I guess, especially for a 12 year old.
Congratulations! Wait Live Aid??? Dangggggg.
live 8
i hope ur having a good day, madam dog
Another reason being a woman sucks ✅ 💕 Eff pink tax.
yes, being a man is much b-ttr
be the change you want to see in the world - go buy men's stuff if it's cheaper. the fact is that there are enough female consumers of higher priced prodcuts that are marketed towards women to keep this so called 'pink tax' alive. do not blame it on being a woman, or men, see it as an opportunity to consume less like the average woman.
Men will be the first to tell women to buy men's products, and then will also be repulsed by women who wear men's clothing or smell like masculine fragrances because they aren’t “feminine enough".
@@AccordingtoNicole agreed 👏
@@AccordingtoNicole thank you! 👏🏼 damned if we do, damned if we don’t.
Of course you have a Patreon. Money grab. I’m frugal, I don’t spend money on that.
You are very numerous even tho some 🥵experiences are not
My dating experience after I knock them out I drag them by the hare
Dude, that's not dating. That's raping.
There is nothing about you that is a true minimalist.
🤷♀️
What would be considered a “true minimalist?” I thought it was spot on… a minimalist isn’t supposed to be deprived either… 😊
I can't tell if that's an insult or a compliment
Llooked up to see when Live 8 was exactly ( memory's fuzzy - no illegal drugs involved).
