A huge part of my slow living routine is saying no to things I don’t want to do; I honour the commitments I make to friends and family but I don’t commit to anything without some forethought. I am content spending time by myself. I don’t allow people into my orbit who are toxic. I’ve kicked all that to the curb,
My hubby & I have taken to ‘speaking about the nature we see on our morning walks’; little birds building their nest or eating bugs; dogs ‘fun barking’ in the park; ducklings scurrying after their mothers; the change in the leaf colours; the coolness of the breeze; the warmth of the morning sun. Nature and the weather - they are ‘things of beauty and wonder’ - if only we take a small amount of time to notice them. Now, we do notice things individually anyway but when someone share it verbally (or a passer by does) it’s like you get more ‘bang for your buck’; they notice things that you might miss. And when you notice them both ‘at once’ - that’s a little bit of magic right there! 😮 Walking outside is so, so underrated!
I would like to see “A day in the life” video. I’m 66 and retired, surrounded by 4’ of snow. If my life was any slower I’d be going backwards. When I lie in bed in the morning waiting to get up I think about what I have to do. I’m at that point when I’m glad if I have laundry to do or cleaning or a good book to read or a vegetable soup to make or my favourite RUclips channels to watch (According to Nicole being one of them). I’m also a minimalist so I go around the house looking for things to get rid of. Some things are hard to part with. But that is actually my favourite thing to do. Is that boring?
I laughed out loud at your comment about going backwards. I am exactly the same. Retired, living slow and loving it. I don't think it is boring. It's awesome!
I once had a job packaging decals. on my first day on the job, my boss told me to work faster. I walked over to the time clock and clocked out and went home. I don't rush for anybody.
We can learn a lot of Zen from our pets… my cat of 20 years just passed away. She really taught me the key to longevity is to be a bit cheeky and demanding at times with what you want and need - and to live simply and slow. All that really mattered was right here, right now.
Multitasking is completely 💯 over-rated (imho). Doing one thing at a time whilst being fully present is key to slow living. I, too, enjoy cooking with intentionality… “mise en place” is part of my cooking experience every time. Thanks for the great discussion today. Ⓜ️ary
Disability forced me to learn slow living. I have to rest a lot, and I can’t multitask at all. I have to pace myself carefully. But it works! When I first became ill I overdid things all the time, and it would knock me flat for weeks. I’m having wrist surgery next week and I’m going to miss cooking so much! My husband has to help chop the vegetables, but I love all the other parts of creating a beautiful, healthy meal. Cooking isn’t just a useful skill - it’s a joy and it saves money. Most people who hate cooking have never learned properly and go at it too fast, get dehydrated and headachy. Anyway - good advice from you as usual!
I shop cooking clean all household try taking care of my self near 55 year old woman 26 year old twins at home with heart conditions do feel exhausted run down I pray for a slower peaceful life I care about peace
Advice everyone should live by I think. Decluttering, living intentionally and slowing down has done wonders for my mental health. When I started several years ago I had severe anxiety and depression. No motivation to do anything really, but when the first round of stuff I didn't need was gone it felt freeing and I felt better with every next intentional step. Now I'm helping my 86 year old grandmother do the same because she wants to move to a space that suits her needs better.
I love the outsourcing comment.I clean houses and people I know judge my clients for spending money this way and I reply every time with "maybe they made a conscience choice to buy back the limited time we have on earth"
I aim for slow living in my evenings, to make up for my psychotic workday. I have many friends who seem to make a competition of “making memories” and constant activities for their children or themselves. After dinner is cleaned up, I like to light a couple of candles, prepare a mug of loose leaf tea and sit with my sketchbook for a bit. I really don’t need to sign myself up for a million things and be on the go constantly to feel fulfilled or enjoy myself. As for cooking/baking, I definitely view it as one of my hobbies. It’s also still a chore at times, definitely not saying that I always love doing it, but I do enjoy making an effort and preparing things from scratch. I love baking bread, desserts, making homemade pasta, etc. and consider that to be a relaxing way to spend time.
I stopped wearing a watch eons ago because I noticed it changed my behavior. Everything became about how long a task would take. I do not own a cell phone either. reception here in the mountains is poor and I hate chatting on the phone. I would rather be face to face. (not screen face either).
I guess I've been slow living all my life then. I have a single track mind so I only focus on one thing at any period in time i.e. my education when I was a student, work temporary jobs only during school vacations, and my job after graduation. I just get rid of whatever that makes my life hectic. I don't like going for gatherings, keep a pet, and things like that. I'm lucky that my family doesn't give me trouble so I can maintain my leisure. I find it much easier and more relaxing to do everything on my own. I've always wondered how people juggle so many things in their lives without breaking down. I sure can't handle that. I'm used to having my time all to myself. It's really a blessing to not have my time taken away from me.
We don’t turn in the fireplace because it costs too much but we enjoy a RUclips video of a fireplace & snow coming down in a coffee shop with jazz. I kind of watch it while cooking but don’t like to watch t.v. while cooking. Good video, Nicole!! Thanks!
I'm new to your channel, and this video made me subscribe. I retired a couple years ago and began to focus on my mental health, which up to that point had been sorely neglected. I found a great therapist, matched up with my E.S.A., Chewie, and began to shift from always preparing for the "next thing" or dwelling in past trauma to grounding myself in the present moment. (Full disclosure, I'm neurodivergent as well.) I find that literally going into a slow-motion mode, physically slowing my movements and focusing on each one, sometimes even mentally narrating the experience or narrating aloud to Chewie helps me slow down. I look forward to checking out your other content.
Interesting. I found out that I'm the calmest and most satisfied with my life and my output is the highest quality when I don't try to force myself to do things in a specific order that I'm supposed to do and instead immerse myself in the chaos of doing things that need to be done part by part in an order I do not consciously manage. It just flows and I move from thing to thing stopping half way and moving some other task. And in the end of the day, everything's done, I've satisfied everybody and everything is perfect. And I'm not particularly tired although I really worked for 12 to 15 hours and took care of my work, laundry, kids, cooking, shopping, cleaning, watching my favorite RUclipsrs and everything is good. Every time I try to organise this organic chaos I'm depressed, feel useless, lazy and everything stops to be done and taken care of. Sometimes I do envy normal people for being able to do things normally.
alot of the problem is major life choices you make; they affect everything. if you married an unhelpful person or a selfish person and have small children, its not a recipe for a calm and contented life. If you take a job that forced you to work over 50 hours a week in a high stress atmosphere, its also not going to help. In both scenarios you become burned out and too tired to focus and probably use some unhealthy habit to cope. Single, low stress job, time outside, etc can be some steps to take. I love this video.
All of this, and taking it a few steps further... that's me. Up to the point I've no financial obligations so I don't need much money neither. Taking it from here and adding stuff slowly but very controlled. I'm not going to be a slave of stuff anymore.
Yes, do a day in the life including the food you eat. My hobby of collecting a few vintage sylvanian homes, furniture, critters and accessories and having them set up to look at and change around every so often is a nice way to relax and take the weekends slow.
Yes!!!!!!! I lived most of my life feeling rushed, muscles tight, always feeling as if I were in a 'fight or flight' readiness, always pulled in so many directions. Now I have the single word 'simplify' placed several places in my home, moving ever closer to minimalism in possessions, relationships, responsibility. I slowly work on home repairs and upgrades as well as healthy living to 'upgrade' my health. I have learned the word 'no' and use it more often when another job is more than I can handle. When I see your videos, I feel uplifted, validated, and more calm. I totally understand being so involved that we forget to breathe, been there, done that. Changing to this simplified and intentional way of living, I feel younger, more hopeful, and am even with less physical pain. The quiet in my home is so blissful as I start each day with prayer and meditation that then energizes me for whatever comes.
I got sick at 24 and that slowed me way down. Changing job was key and I've worked for myself for a decade now. Life slowed me down and I'm thankful. I never would have gone down this path without it
I work a rather fast-paced job so I full know and understand the importance of slowing the pace of life when possible. And congratulations on hitting almost 20K subscribers.
Yes, a day in the life, a morning routine, an evening routine, would love to see any of these vids coming from you Nicole. Do you experience anxiety when something big at work depends on you? is it difficult for you to self-manage and organize? I find working for myself sometimes comes with periods of high anxiety due to my poor self-organization skills.
I love slow and I love quiet. I struggle to fend off the opinions of so many of my associates who scoff at not doing more. I am always perplexed when people tell me their plans for their days off from a hectic work schedule.....and the day off is way more filled with activities than the work day that they are so exhausted by! I thought I was the only "slacker" around so thanks for the video.... at least it's not just me.
Found this video very helpful. I am retired so actually have a lot of spare time but I can often feel "overwhelm" when I have a number of tasks that need doing. I often dwell on the number of tasks rather than take a deep breath and sort out an order in which to do them. Intentionality is a key word - for some reason you don't hear it used often in the UK in this context - and a good thing to start getting things under control.
Breathing is something I have to intentionally tell myself to do. I find I hold my breath often especially when I’m stressed. I’m trying to slow down today and just relax but my mind keeps telling me I should be doing something. I’m going to really try to just breathe and relax the rest of today. Tomorrow will be here too soon and there will be no time to rest.
I totally respect and admire your lifestyle. Absolutely and unequivocally! You however give me the vibe that you are single with no children and are a trite selfish to your own needs and material things. It's okay. It's what makes you happy. However Not all of us are capable of living a "slow life" living in a family environment. You got the world by the ball's young lady. Don't get knocked up or it's all over!!!!!!
I would love to see some cooking videos. I know it goes against what you just said in this video as far as you don’t like to be distracted in the kitchen but it might be a fun & different kind of video to try. The tofu noodle dish you made looked delicious & you are more amazing & special than you realize. Thanks for sharing your life & your ideas with us.
As an autistic freshly graduated hs student who moved from the city to the country side, I live exactly like this everyday indulging in my interests and taking care of myself to my needs; talking long walks and spending time at the library alone are some of my favorite activities . It has changed my life and I’ve never been healthier and happier . Thank you for this video!
Great video Nicole; I’m exactly the same with respect to clutter. It really agitates me and that reaction is worsening as I get older. I cycle through my home every month continuing to find things I can get rid of (which doesn’t mean discard - I donate as much as I can). I keep a large bin in the basement and when it’s full I offload the stuff. Slow living is something to strive for but difficult to achieve with a young family. Keep up the great work - love your vids.
I am autistic and ADD (inattentive but not hyperactive). I was only diagnosed about a year and a half ago. But over the last decade or so, I have actually implemented many of the strategies you have outlined here. The declutter one is amazing. I learned long ago that our brains rarely multi-task, but rather task-switch. I am much more efficient when I focus on one task at a time. Routine is also quite good for my brain. Anyway, this slow living lifestyle works really well for my brain. And I would love to see a day in the life video. 😊
Nicole you are becoming popular everyday🎉so glad to see you growing so fast .. not long ago I see you having subscribers in hundreds growing in thousands.. Money mom also referred people to your channel
I miss it now that I'm retired. Hard to believe, but true. In my my dreams I'm still young, running giant machines that were long ago cut up for scrap...Weird.
I am 100% with you on COOKING with no distractions, and enjoying the process, the smell, and the feeling of preparing food. It can be very relaxing for me.
Hi Nicole and Levi 🤗 great topic! Would like to see a day in the life video for sure. I do the same as you and take a walk every morning and just take in the sights and sounds. I like to incorporate as much slow living as I can on a daily basis - it's not always possible but I'm getting better at just focusing on one task at a time and not burning myself out. My job is pretty chill now but it wasn't always that way and I remember those feelings of being so scattered and worn out. We like to take vacations where we go canoe portaging in the wilderness for a week at a time or go Winter camping. This really forces us to focus on one thing at a time and we really feel like our batteries have been recharged after a trip like that.
I enjoy working and exercising and sleeping and online videos so i channel my time into those. I dont enjoy cooking or cleaning or laundry so i innovate some tricks to practically bypass those entirely.
'Spirit burp', indeed! I'll remember this description and image forever. 😄 I love the good sense in this video, and can relate to everything you've mentioned. As regards sleep hygiene, I'm in fact focusing on this very thing at the moment, and with some success (though I've just recently begun). I'd like to see a video of your own practices. Thank you for the time you take and for the care and energy you bring to these videos.
Yes, what a wonderful video for "slow living.". Unfortunately, when I got the second Moderna vaccine I got Myalgic Encephalomyolitis Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. I certainly have had to slow down, but I don't mind at all. I am more content and take things as they come. I have never believed in multitasking....do I don't even attempt to. I'm of French decent so yes, mise en place for me when I cook. I have learned a lot watching your videos. Keep up the great work 💯. Miss Monique 🙂🙏💗🎶🎉😊
I would like to practice slow living but I work Alot I got sick with breast cancer and am healing from surgury I don’t want to get sick just to have time off but in truth that is my life I am going to change and work a little less so I can actually remember my life having another birthday in a couple of months and can’t remember the year just know I was rushing though itThank you for your insight workaholism is valued in this country but not at the expense of your mental and Physical health
Love your sage advice, Nicole. Since you like to cook (leisurely), how about doing a cooking vid or two of a favorite recipe? I'm an old geezer now. At your age I was still drinking alcoholically, so I admire the way you're living your life at this age. Kind regards.
Hee Nicole new subbie here I am so glad to have found you and love your content. I have learned a lot from you and look forward to more videos cheers from Canada😀
Hi Nicole! I would love to see a "day in the life" video. Remembering to slow down & breathe is so important. I practice slow living and totally agree with focusing on one task at a time before doing another. It's so easy to get sidetracked, but practice definitely leads to progress. I do my best to be intentional & present; however, I often think about the future, so I am thinking of practicing meditation to keep myself more grounded. Anyway, love your content, Nicole, and can relate to a lot of things you said in this video. I enjoy your tips, honesty, & humor! I burp & fart a lot, hahaha.
I did make.a conscious decision to get out in the garden after work to do things for me. I get smashed by work a lot and taking that time for me is really important.
I want to practice more slow-living. It's really really hard! I think it'll be easier when the children are grown and there's less financial stress, as I'll be able to spend less spoons on work hours and childrearing. Most children are not into slowness, lol.
OMG: you are just like me: IF it is "opposite day". This is the best vid of yours I have seen!!! Your pace in the this vid is like 1.25 speed while you talk about "slow living". Ooppps. Unless I turned the sound on fast???... hold on... Wow. Did you post this in a faster speed!!!! I love this so much. I completely love you as a presenter. Don't ask to be my girlfriend. You are too young for me. I can't even hear what you are saying: But I just admire you for this speed thing. [ You are still figuring out who you are: So you can't speak to those of us are familiar with our own selves ] I loved that you said "fall off the wagon"!!! reference to alcoholicts. If I came up to Toronto would you have dinner with me? I would love to listen to you and hear you in person.
Another informative and practical video. Thank you for the quality over quantity approach in your content. I learned about breathing and grounding myself 4yrs ago. I tend to do my least favorite task to music when possible first so that I can relax and read or walk. My walks are my therapy!! no music or distractions. Always with my cell for safety but never use it. Wishing everyone peace of mind, body, and soul. There's hope for you youngins yet🤭💖
Haha I was like ooo I want to hear what she played on the guitar , then BAM blink 182, seeing them in London this October. Some good tips, time to wind down for the evening.👌🏾
You have a nice house !! Smart lady you are.............. Cute dog. 🐕 !! You're doin a wonderful job !!!! Try not to overwhelm yourself ..... Thanks for the content .... Sick of winter !!! ( Northern Wisconsin )

It is a small word, but one of the most important. No.
I function the same way you do. The difference is, it took me 67 years to figure it out.
I never comment on RUclips. But I’ve felt compelled to let you know your amazing and I love and enjoy your videos.

I would love a day in the life video! Or even your morning and evening routines! That would be so helpful to see an example of slow living routines

However Not all of us are capable of living a "slow life" living in a family environment. You got the world by the ball's young lady. Don't get knocked up or it's all over!!!!!!
Getting knocked up is my 3rd biggest fear in life after 1) developing gluten intolerance, and 2) spiders.
@@AccordingtoNicole HAHA. I hear ya!
Yes to a day in the life, morning and an evening routine video! I'd also love a what I eat in a day video.
Almost 20k 🎉 so happy for you! Thank you for this important reminder. I needed to hear it.
I love the topic of this video!!!!!! This is perfect timing!!!
This video really resonated with me and I'd love to see a day in the life video 👍
Nicole you are becoming popular everyday🎉so glad to see you growing so fast .. not long ago I see you having subscribers in hundreds growing in thousands.. Money mom also referred people to your channel
Great content as always!
Thank you 🙏🏼
Yes, I would love to see a day in the life video. Also interested in the morning and evening routines! Great video today, thanks!
World: listen to this woman's advice!
Work is where you accumulate memories that will haunt your dreams forever.
Thank you. Just discovered your site and glad I did.
Hi Nicole. Yes more on slow living please. :)
More guitar playing in that genre is needed at the end of every video please. 👍
Nobody likes you when you're 23.
Also love the Ferris Bueller quote 🙂
Yes! A day in the life video would be awesome!😁
Hi Nicole❤ love all your videos
I find watching your videos very relaxing, keep the good work. Watching from the UK 🇬🇧
I'm a little intrigued by the soul burp. I'd watch the day in the life of According to Nicole. 👌
Yes to the day in the life video!
Slow living -- I start my day with yoga, and I end it with reading a book or listening to an audiobook.
Thank you for taking the time to make these helpful videos. :)
I enjoy working and exercising and sleeping and online videos so i channel my time into those. I dont enjoy cooking or cleaning or laundry so i innovate some tricks to practically bypass those entirely.
Hi Nicole, your videos are so amazing I love them and you are same as what you say👍. Really wise in young age. Keep up !
I agree, Life should have less Stress!
Yes thank U 4 the day in the life video.
Yes to day in the life! Love this one👏🏻
Your hair is beautiful
I would like to practice slow living but I work Alot I got sick with breast cancer and am healing from surgury I don’t want to get sick just to have time off but in truth that is my life I am going to change and work a little less so I can actually remember my life having another birthday in a couple of months and can’t remember the year just know I was rushing though itThank you for your insight workaholism is valued in this country but not at the expense of your mental and Physical health
Thank you Nicole for making these videos :) It helps me a lot in my life.
Recently found your channel and enjoying your content. I needed this particular reminder today 👍
Love your sage advice, Nicole. Since you like to cook (leisurely), how about doing a cooking vid or two of a favorite recipe? I'm an old geezer now. At your age I was still drinking alcoholically, so I admire the way you're living your life at this age. Kind regards.
So happy that you have learned this at this stage i your life! Its key! Xo
👏👏👏good message
I agree 👍
I'm watching all these now so when I have my own place, I can put all this into action
Awesome video and ideas!
I use 30 minute meditation videos i listen to. It helps
I would love to see "a day in the life of Nicole" video. Your are amazing and have a wealth of knowledge about life.
I will watch all your videos
[ You are still figuring out who you are: So you can't speak to those of us are familiar with our own selves ]
I loved that you said "fall off the wagon"!!! reference to alcoholicts.
You should make a morning and night routine, and some DITL vids.
Haha I was like ooo I want to hear what she played on the guitar , then BAM blink 182, seeing them in London this October. Some good tips, time to wind down for the evening.👌🏾
