All true! Those small extra tasks do add up over time and bring a little bit of calm. I actually don’t even use the word ‘de-clutter’ anymore, instead I think of it as a ‘re-set.’

The past year or so of my watching great videos like this and others on decluttering/cleaning is adopting the word "reset" instead of "cleaning." Working with family and friends in organizing their spaces, "reset" doesn't seem to carry the daunting emotional toll that "cleaning" does. :)

Aloha, excellent video. Believe it or not, I have been decluttering my apartment for months now. I’m a senior and have Scoliosis, which is very painful. Once I get going with my decluttering and organizing - ugh! - my back starts hurting and I have to stop. Seems like it’s taking forever to get my home minimalized and beautiful, but when I look at the areas that I have gotten under control, it’s soooo worth the hard work and effort. Thank you for your helpful tips❤️.

I have a Narnia cupboard where items go when I'm decluttering and I don't want to get rid of certain items until I am ready. That way I close the door knowing I can go back in a few days with a different mindset and feel ready to let them go x

I call my transition zone my “holding tank” where I gently part from clutter leaving my life. It’s taken the emotional angst out of letting go. Some things have gone in, back to try it again then back to holding while I absorb the reality that it isn’t working for me anymore.

I'm loving all 3 easy tips! For me, it boils down to doing little things as I go instead of ending up with an insurmountable to do list or pile of (insert annoying household chore of your choice) 😅 thanks!

I have a transition space in my closet. I pile things neatly until I happen upon a cardboard box, then I fill the box for donation and make decisions about the rest at the same time. So, getting a package in the mail triggers the habit. It's been working well.

Thank you for your tips Elin! I’m in and out of decluttering since a year. It’s not a lot to look at still (my bf and father don’t see the difference) but I’m changing my thought patterns and I’m not letting a lot in as I was before. I’ve always been the clean as you go type of person, that helps me a lot too. I love the transition tip.

I really like the Transition Zone idea. That's kind of what I'm already doing because it's just more practical. Life gets busy but my "zone" in small so not overwhelming when I get to it.

Thank you so much - will start using all three suggestions immediately. i’m so happy i found your channel. different content to the usual minimalism inspiration, ❤️
my humble input - i started using a thin white pen (for metal surfaces) to write things down on my fridge - it looks very tidy and no more papers stuck all over the fridge. it is like a transition zone 😊 really for kitchen related ideas and recipes to try. every month i see what can be deleted and forgotten, what stays etc. useful for random info heard on podcasts etc. too.

One thing I do is similar to your cleaning up one small drawer feeling. I declutter the top of my nightstand every morning. I always have a glass of water and hairband on my nightstand when I go to bed, so I just make sure to reset it every morning. It's a small thing that just helps me feel like I have it a little together. If I am having a good day, this small thing spills over into tidying other areas of my home. But if it isn't a good day, at least I've done one thing to make things feel a bit better.
