“Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become.” A good quote from the book. I also like the workbook called 30 Days to Reduce Stress by Harper Daniels, I felt it went well with Atomic Habits as a mindfulness guide.
After reading Atomic Habits, I had to take a good look at my home layout/schedule. If I could locate my "everyday items" in an easy to access area, and weekly items in a reachable area, and occasional items stored further away that'll require a bit more effort to access (but still accessible), then that's great. What also stood out to me is applying Habit Stacking. Habit Stacking: Backyard Garden (Hobby) = Do some Cardio and get Vitamin D = be creative and combine resulting fruit/vegetables with near expiring products from groceries (for example, apple/celery with peanut butter) = healthier meals/snacks and better understanding of what I eat or not eat = cut back on buying junk and feeling less guilty for having to manage junk.
I love Atomic Habits. My favorite lesson is to make the new habit EASY. Start by committing to just a few minutes of the desired behavior and once I've started it's much easier to continue. Personal examples: exercising, decluttering.
Loved all of this! I actually have been doing some of this stuff for a while and agree with what you mentioned. When I started my new job 4 yrs ago I set up a second bank acct and had my employer set up my direct deposit so that a portion of my paycheck went into the second account automatically. It’s amazing how my savings grew so quickly and I didn’t even miss the money because I never saw it if that makes sense. Also, I love starting my day with a clean kitchen so every night all dishes are washed and put away, stovetop cleaned and floor is swept and mopped. It’s just a matter of telling yourself you’re going to do something and stick to it and once you succeed, you will benefit from it mentally and emotionally.
I used to babysit Benjamin and Joel from Good Charlotte! My parents were friends with their parents. We also went to the same Christian School. Nice guys but they look much different now!
The first habit sounds a bit like a SMART goal - small, measurable, actionable, realistic, and time-bound. As a recovered Catholic the "habit of avoidance" reminded me of Lent. I watched the Patreon drop, and Good Charlotte has been the weekend's earworm.
Alan Carr's classic book on quitting smoking makes the same point about identifying as a non-smoker the second you put out your last cigarette, rather than saying you're "in the process of quitting". It's really the only strategy that worked for me many years ago.

In the short time i've been a subscriber to your channel, this is the best video of all of them. i enjoy all your videos but this is my favorite. on monday, i'm going to the library to see if they got or can get this book. Thank You for making this video.
Just finished that book. Looking at things from a positive angle is key. I need to write down the answers to 3 questions he recommends we ask ourselves, 1: what are the core values that drive my life and work, 2: how am I living and working w/ integrity, and 3: how can I set a higher standard in the future. Striving to be a better person is even more important than saving money ( which is a close second 😁). TU.

It's a good book but the part where the author talks about improving 1% everyday means 37x better after a year had me laughing. By that logic, since the book was published 5 years ago, James Clear must be 77 million times better by now

When i was trying to get pregnant i listened to a lot of information on fertility, and listening to info from midwives they reported that the placenta of a vegan mother resembled that of a smokers lung. Most people who have been staunch vegans for 10+ years HAVE to quit due to their health failing. Children who have been raised vegan have brittle bones and lose their teeth. And yes I realize that maybe some of these people might not have followed the diet properly and taken the B6 supplement to make up for a lack of meat in their diet… but even those who do everything right still wind up very sick over time. You claim to have so much wisdom when it comes to finances and even sometimes life… but you are so young… you know a lot for your age. Youre ahead of your peers maybe but you still have a lot to learn. Veganism is just not sustainable. Ive explored it myself. Its just not. As much as it sounds terrible on paper, eating meat is necessary to survive and thrive as a human. We do not chew the cud. We do not get all the bioavailable nutrients from plants alone… its not how our systems work. There may be iron or protein or calcium in whatever youre eating, but youre not necessarily getting that. And its not sustainable. Its causing you to purchase foods that are overpriced… and yes i realize meat CAN be expensive… but clearly you have not eaten meat long enough as an adult to figure out how to get it frugally. Its not as though you have to eat it every day. Its also not environmentally sustainable. The amazon rainforest is being destroyed to make way for “superfood” crops. You are being forced to not eat local and seasonal, because you would die if you did. Livestock on the other hand can live in climates where plants dont thrive. And i can assure you, cow farts arent the highest form of CO2 if climate change is your argument… And as far as factory farming goes, well you dont have to buy meat from factory farms. You can once again, buy local and from ethically raised meats. Hell you could even go hunting. Thats frugal AND ethical. Those animals live free. Veganism isnt solving any issues… its pushing your head in the sand and avoiding the reality of the problems of the system. Just because you dont participate doesnt mean it wont go on. Alternatively things could change if people supported ethical treatment of our food… but even further than that if you tried to get actually involved, you’d learn to respect where your food came from instead of ignorantly staying distanced from the source. I own my own chickens. Its easy as hell and low maintenance once its set up… free eggs all the time. More than my family can eat… its healthy, its ethical, and they make fun pets. And above all else it gets you closer to your food… knowing where it came from. Veganism is for children who just learned for the first time that cows get slaughtered and it makes them sad… so they run away rather than tackling the issue. Youre going to get sick and spend a lot more money in the long run on groceries and medical bills in the future… and even if all your expenses get taken care of miss Canada… you’ll still have to deal with the consequences and i can assure you, you’ll be kicking yourself at 35 when you realize as your body finally isnt able to keep up anymore, just how much you fucked up. Use that smart brain of yours and do your own research and learn what i have learned for yourself… rethink your choices. If you dont, i understand… youre still a child. You think you got it figured out im sure. Youve seen some documentaries of this and that so yeah, im sure you think you know all you need to know. But maybe do your future self a favor and give it a second thought…
Being vegan isn't good for humans. It's life shortening. You need certain fats that are hard to get. Try going for fish, eggs, maybe cheese and certainly butter. You can limit red meat if the thought of eating animals bothers you. I live in NC and have tons of spiders too. Ugh...
Hey Nicole, I actually down voted this video. I really like your original content, not so thrilled with book reviews from you. Just being honest. Seems like easy filler material for the channel, think you will be more successful doing what you have been doing- ie being yourself and talking about your life and POV on issues. It’s not that you do bad reviews by any means, but what you’ve been doing the last couple of years is far superior to opining on popular self help books.
I don't mean to denigrate the wage earners, but if your income is from a "paycheck", you're never going to be disciplined enough, nor have any extraneous money, to save a hundred bucks a week. Sorry to break the bad news- you need to make more money.

Ugh...
The most well respected dietetic associations in the world say otherwise.
Welcome to degeneration X.
I found a way to increase the hundred dollars to $200 and so on and so and brought me a bigger dopamine Rush but yes absolutely true 😻😸🐱😽
