I have plenty of money. The best thing about having money isn't spending money, but going to bed at night not worrying about money. That's better than anything I can buy.
Whoa. Hard agree! They've done studies on this - being short of money also starts making you do EVERYTHING short-term. It's like the Vines Boots Theory, but it carries over to your whole life.
There was a stretch a few years ago where I shoved everything I could into a few tax-shielded accounts at the end of the year to hit the limits, and cut my bank account really low. That was a nervous week as pay came in and big bills went out within a day of each other.
ABSOLUTELY!!
Great. Now apply her fourth rule 😂
I noticed as I get older, l seem to deni myself of things I enjoy . Because of money needed for necessities of life . But then I think tomorrow is not guaranteed for any of us. It's a double-edged sword for me .
I feel the same way you do. I make so many sacrifices so others get things, and I deny myself.
This year I got my parents a book titled, “Die With Zero”, and it really made an impact on them. Just thought I’d recommend it, since you might get some good out of reading it too. 😊
I’m a bit late but I was really confronted with this when my sister in law passed away before age 40 due to unexpected surgery complications. Life isn’t guaranteed. But she also has almost nothing to her name and what she did have went through probate which was HORRIBLE. Have a will and leave a legacy or have life insurance (she had a dependent, a minor son). It’s a balance to enjoy life at its fullest and also invest for future you to enjoy life at its fullest in older years and have a legacy to give to loved ones and donate to charities you care about.
So true…Couldn’t have said it better!
This young women is teaching this old women a thing or two. Thank you. ❤
“No is a complete sentence.” Amen. There’s a guy I work with whose car broke down in MARCH and he still doesn’t have his own ride to work. He used to ask me every day if I could take him home (he lives miles from me, it’s not like it’s even on my way-but that’s not even the point) and the first couple of times I’d say things like, “I’m not going home.” Or “I’m headed in the opposite direction.” Then I remembered that “no” is truly a complete sentence. So any time he asked me after that I just said no. And he finally got the message and doesn’t ask me anymore.
I have dealt with that too. Guy at work had his car repossessed then tried to throw his inconvenience in my lap by getting me to drive him home which was a half hour out of my way. I didn’t want to do it even if he gave me gas money so I said no and didn’t care if he got mad.
I've lived for over half a century-- and Nicole knows exactly what she is saying. I know it to be true. Wealth of practical knowledge from her!
Regarding needs vs. wants - I'm not a minimalist by ANY stretch. I've tried it; it drove me nuts. Instead, I try to be a Conscious Maximalist. If I want something, I try to thrift or buy second hand. If I no longer want or use something, I sell it or donate it. I keep my space tidy and clean, and I LIVE by the rule that "everything has a place." That way, I'm still able to enjoy all my ~things~ without hoarding, overconsuming, or driving myself nuts.
Love this video👍 You are so right about 'be kind to animals'. We need to respect animals, which is too often forgotten. Thanks for sharing.
No, never mine that rubbish respect your parents and your elders. And be kind to people.
Taking a walk for sure helps.
Also the be kind to animals really hit me.Why is this hard for anyone? Animals do the coolest most amazing things.I just saw a video of dogs at daycare going down a slide and it made mt day better.😊
She's talking about all animals, not just cats and dogs, but the steak on your plate...
I often ask myself before speaking “ is it helpful or hurtful?”
Great tips👍🏼
Thank you for being an advocate for animals through your channel :)
@CanadianEbikeoutlet She's vegan
Yes. A house tour.
And Yes! Animals always first. Do not have any trust for someone who isn’t kind or does not care for animals
Using a credit card to get cash back rewards and paying the bill IN FULL every month is me. I don’t use credit cards because I have to but because I want to.
Great tips Nicole! Can I provide some feedback. I enjoy your videos without the background music. The music was distracting me from your tips. I love your videos and you as a person you motivate me to become better.
All my videos have background music. From a few comments it appears it was too loud in this video. Noted, and sorry!
@@AccordingtoNicole totally fine I love your videos either way! Yes just a little louder. 😊
Gosh. I was so captivated I didn't notice the music. 🎵can't please everyone, so ya got to please yourself 🎵
To differentiate between needs vs wants was my first step in becoming debt free! Also a house tour would be great.
🙌🏼
Nicole I have learned more from you than anyone else I'm my 60 plus years! Yes definitely would love a house tour ❤❤
0:14 Living w/ consequences of your actions; 1:49 Credit Cards; 2:59 Write it down; 3:54 Keep things private; 5:31 Create more than you consume; 6:25 Not all wants are needs but you need to have wants; 9:12 "No" is a complete sentence and it's not rude; 10:24 If you're in a bad mood, go for a walk; 11:24 Be kind to animals; 12:15 Your home is your sanctuary.
Thanks a lot 👍👍👍
thank you!
7. "NO" IS A COMPLETE SENTENCE.. so true! 8. go for a walk always works....😊
As usual great tips! I work from home & moved my desk into my bedroom closet a year ago. It makes the biggest difference being able to shut the door & not think about work. It also helped being a minimalist so half my closet was already empty 👍🏼
What a great idea!
@@diosadeamore Thanks, it works well for me!
A home tour would be nice!
A “budget buffer” of one or two months expenses per Kate Kaden RUclips is a life saver. Not an emergency fund which everyone needs also but a first line of defense against unexpected expenses.
Okay, now that's getting a little carried away
Nicole I am moody so taking a walk sounds like a great idea. Good exercise too. Thanks for your ideas. I love them
Yes please we want a whole house tour !
my 1st exp with being frugal was when my vintage motorcycle qualified for $8/m insurance in SK. I used to go for long rides with a smile because i felt like i was getting away with something. a 90% discount on being able to travel in such a freeing way a fantastic exp. i've chased it ever since
Animals are a soft spot for me. We need more kindness overall in this world. Sometimes I walk until I am in a better mood - and sometimes that ends up being a really long walk but it works. I work remotely and in a tiny space right now but planning to change that soon… working on patience.
Everytime I see LEVI…..I can’t help thinking what a sweetie-pie he is! 💕
That make more than you take rule has served me so well. It helps create a sense of self-worth more than anything.
"all work and no play makes jack a dull boy" is from the shining!
That expression was around years before Nicholson was born if that is what you are referring to
Married to the same gal for 56 years and I go for a drive -- once she told me I needed to go on a trip and stay away for a couple of days because SHE did not "like" my attitude. So, I went for a drive and she called me about 4 hours later and asked me when I was going to return because dinner was about ready. I told her I was around 200 miles away and was doing as she had asked. Of course she told me to turn around and come home. I laughed and said I'll be home in a couple of days. Puerto Rican women are really intelligent - beautiful - great cooks - all knowing LOL (El hombre propone - pero - la MUJER dispone) --- so I learned her language because I wanted to be able to speak to the members of her family that spoke little or no English. La gente en la Isla del Encanto son muy, pero MUY amable. Aprecio los del campo mas.
👍I am old enough to be your grandma, Nicole - and I just want to compliment you on your wisdom. 👏👏👏🙋♀️🥰👏
I like the be kind to animals rule. Sometimes I'm even kind to people.
Another incredible video. Wow, just love everything you have to say. Always so on point - thank you
Thanks a lot for your videos Nicole. I’ve been following you for a while now, fellow vegan and aspiring minimalist. I’ve made quite a bit of progress in the months I’ve watched your videos. Love your sense of humor and your practicality and also how down to earth you are and how you don’t care about what others think of you. ❤
You are wise beyond your years. I especially appreciate number 10. I have worked from home since 2009 and completely understand the need for separation of work space and living space.
Being kind to animals AND humans ❤. That’s what it’s all about 😊. Great video. Have a great weekend!
Yeehhh Nicole video on Sunday, every video I hope to see little Levi chilling on the background
be kind to animals. i take that even further and im kind to insects. im especially nice to bee's because they help pollinate my garden.
Have you ever considered writing an Amazon ebook related to your philosophy of life … sort of like summarizing main ideas from your videos? By the way, I’d love a house tour with commentary that discusses rationale for design, functionality, and aesthetics.
I know you mean well. But it amazes me how commenters suggest something "else" a person WHO IS ALREADY CREATING can do.
I see this everywhere.
It's a Simon Cowell complex. "You're good, but you'd be great if you'd...."
You gotta see that if ATN wants to publish a book, she will.
@@mettamorph4523 Respectfully, I feel your logic is flawed. First, I was only making a suggestion - not giving Nicole an executive fiat to write a book NOW. Second, using your logic, Nicole’s viewers should never make ANY suggestions related to topic ideas or alternative medium delivery.
@@mettamorph4523 what's wrong with making suggestions? She doesn't have to do anything she doesn't want to. your comment was a bit weird.
I have a guideline... if I return to a potential purchase 2x or 3x and it's in the 100-400 dollars ]price range , I buy it. If I keep overthinking it, I just buy it and move on. If I have a feeling that a purchase might be frivolous or i might not actually really enjoy it, I make a decision to revisit it on a week and see how I feel about it then. For books, if I have big list of books I want to buy but find myself hesitating, I cross out half of them or 2/3 of them to reduce the cost then buy the rest. Since my tendency is more not to spend, i need to encourage myself in these ways to go ahead and get those things that I know i generally get real value out of that are recurrent thoughts.
One of the things I finally decided to have the moment of "screw what other people think or say about it" was my change to a vegetarian/flexitarian diet. For years I have wanted to eat more that way but peer pressure to eat like the majority stopped me. It has been a fun learning experience on how to adapt to the new way of eating as I have a couple allergies and intolerances that make it a bit more challenging. An allergy to tree nuts and a severe intolerance to most beans T_T I am glad I can eat tofu though! Learning to make it just right has been fun. I noticed you also drink NextMilk; whoever invented that needs a medal!
Totally agree. It is hands down the best non-dairy milk I've ever had.
Yes please to updated home video. 😊 (LOVE the cabinet on which your record player sits!!). Another great video, btw 🙌
I’m not a pet lover, but an also not a pet hater.
I moved to US from Europe and it’s still surprising to me how many people here treat animals way better than other humans.
You are wise beyond your years. :-). I know as it took me way too long to learn/do what you’ve listed.
Keep it up!!
Great lessons to live by ❤ Always enjoy Sunday with Nicole. Thank you!
hi Nicole, another amazing video.I like your channel because your content is always so realistic to life
Full house tour please! 🙌🏼😄
I don’t buy on credit unless I need it my clothes dryer broke , I put that on credit also dr bills and copay’s didn’t have a choice health is so important Thank you for all that you shared with us. I enjoy watching your videos since you’re very in life. 14:13
Great video! My wife and I are minimalists, in a sense... we live in a tiny home and live a much different life style. We can relate to a lot of what you are talking about in this video. Well said!
Hi Nicole! Once again I love your good common sense videos. I believe in those same things that you do, but I've never thought about them or put them into words.
The reason I am responding now is because of your advice to be kind to animals. I believe this to my whole soul. So much so that I can no longer eat meat. Or I should say mammals. I try to be a vegetarian, but I will make an exception for fish, because fish like mackerel and salmon are very nutritious.
Anyways, looking forward to your next video.
I really really enjoyed this one. Please keep them coming. I look forward to them every week.
Your quote on credit cards got put down on my calendar ty
You are the good influence needed 💯
At my age If I want to remember something I have to write it down. I use the "notes" part of my cell phone and just say it. It's there (if I remember to look at the notes). LOL
10 valid and worthwhile rules to remember 😏
I really do like house tours with links to some of a persons favorite or most useful things.
You are real. It looks great. Greetings from Finland.
The black wall looks great! A stylish accent.
❤❤. I enjoy your content. Thank you for sharing the knowledge!
I’m working and living in Japan right now so your videos come out Monday morning here. I love having something to look forward to watch on my lunch break! ☺️✨
I love to listen to you! You are so young but so wise! I learn a lot from you!! Thank you tons for sharing this! These videos are gold!!!
You have plenty of room for IKEA shelves to store records. I have to always keep myself in check of collecting records, board games, DVDs, toys. Records are my main collectible and I like to try out "dollar bin" records of bands I'm not familiar with. This causes my collection to swell but if they don't cut it, I'll simply donate them.
Excellent👏👏👏Thank you for sharing!
Eight !! So true! Best medicine. Because our bodies are designed to walk and so many people don’t walk the length of themselves. I concur with all your points. Another great video.
We need a full house tour!!!
Love it love it love it
love your interesting ideas.. thanks for sharing
Good information!
A fantastic video! I needed this! Thank you so much!!
I love your videos, Nicole!
good advice
I’m happy to see you next week 😊❤
Liked it, a great video, thank you! ;)
thx u for all the good sunday relaxing videos, madam dog!
Awesome video! Would love a house tour!
I really enjoy your minimalist idea and money tips. You’re pretty insightful!❤
Yes 😅 word vomit is too much information. Plus, if you don't have anything nice to say, then stay quiet. If we thought about consequences beforehand it would be a nice place 😊
Someone I recently met decided to give me an unprompted deep dive of their mental health history and I was sooo uncomfortable. How do you even respond to something like that?
“Uhh sorry to hear all that…”
“Thanks for sharing”
“Yikes”
Love the video but may I make a constructive comment the background music you added was too distracting and made it hard to absorb your message. All love thanks for the content !!
Noted!
I love your minimalist house
yes i'd love to see a full house tour
YES !
Animals are ny first love 😊
It’s true all work and no play did make me dull 😔
True, If you have to "credit" it, you can't afford it. And write it down another great point... OH! HOME! Yes...!
7:45 Jack is Jack Torrance from The Shining haha. You have so many well-put points I really need to rewatch this and make some notes. Thanks for sharing!
I like Nicole. She has good ideas.
I pay for everything (including my wife’s new Mercedes) with CASH. No debt not even a mortgage.
Great video Nicole
Thank you!
I always like your videos
period.
Th❤nk Y❤u!
I don't have credit cards and don't need em.
😊💛 it can be challenging to find balance. I can usually talk myself out of spending but I liked your "it's okay to want" sometimes. I really want an ebike lol!
If ypy live in a snowy area it might be a good investment
Great video. I'd lkve a house tour.
full house tour please 🤩
Like the record player i have a similar one i kinda miss the authentic crispy static
Growing up with money being tight, would you say you have a scaracity mindset?
Definitely. I have to frequently check myself.
You get an extra like for all the simpsons clips alone haha. Great points in this video!
House tour!
I tend to impulse buy. I can afford it, but i have too much stuff taking space now. :(
I like your bare house, so much cleaner.
I have tons of vinyl and no player 😢 I caught that kiss right on my cheek 😘😘😘😂😁😁
oh no .) kubrick quote. The Shining
