This sounds like my rant to co-workers when they say they don’t have any money. Well you have 4 tvs, 8 purses, 3 couches, 16 coffee mugs, a $250 cable package, & go out to dinner 4 times a week….derp. I don’t care what people buy as long as they don’t complain about finances.
oh gosh exactly. I just got back from a one week $800 hiking vacation for 2 and we were not even that frugal (stayed in decent motel rooms, ate mostly restaurant meals). Several people I know are like "we can't afford to travel" when they have EVERY streaming service, two 1 year old cars and a 3 bedroom rental condo for 2 people.
Her channel is amazing! I agree wholeheartedly. She points out some very obvious things that even I'm guilty of not noticing, but (as the saying goes) once she does you can't unsee it, unhear it, or unfeel it. Genuinely good person with a genuinely awesome point of view.
For a car wash, you'd be surprised the performance gain of a good wash, especially if you drive on the highway a lot. If the local car wash has an undercarriage wash, USE IT. It'll help reduce rust, especially in areas that get a lot of snow and ice.
The only thing I disagree with is the drink bottle. Using a mason jar as my to-go vessel would be like using a flattened cardboard box as a mattress lmao. I always have a drink handy and I love using a beautiful and functional purchased bottle despite the initial price tag because the good ones keep your drink hot or cold ALL day. They're also non-spill and certainly reusable. I've had mine many years, though admittedly I have too many lmao (just pick a good one and you'll get many, many years out of it).
I would shatter a mason jar, and it would have to be small enough for the cup holder. But point taken. I have sat on a purchase for a year or two of one of those metal ones like hydro flask. In the mean time I was using something from the house. I think that gave me my answer haha
I totally agree. Plus I love the insulated water bottles that keep my drinks cold in the summer and warm in the winter. I totally feel like money well spent on them :)))
A thermos bottle that keeps your drinks hot or cold will save you money if it keeps from purchasing the drinks, but the ones that don't keep your drinks hot or cold are a waste of money. I bought my kids thermos bottles when they started working and they take their lunches with them saving a lot of money. @@ceciliahorvath7488
I agree Sean! I bought a stainless steel Contigo auto-seal travel mug in 2010 to try to save money on take out coffee. I still have it, it still works and I have saved £2.65 per day for more than 12 years now 😄
I would never buy an expensive water bottle but then I received a Hydro Flask as a gift and I love it so much. The ice literately stays frozen ALL DAY. It's great for long hikes, to bring to exercise classes and more. For an active person like me, it's nice that it holds 40 oz. It's great for traveling too. I didn't know how much value it would add to my life until I owned one.
As far as drink containers, I have a thermos bottle that I bought probably 25 years ago, it may have cost a few bucks, but it has paid for itself many times over time saving money vs buying coffee on the go.
I never wanted to be that person who bought an expensive water container. Then my work got a bunch of those stanley water containers with our logo printed on them. I swiped 3 of them. I'll take them for free. Plus they hold a crap-ton of coffee and fit in the stupid cup containers in my car that none of my other large coffee cups will fit in.
I totally agree about skipping on the bank fees. Such a scam!! Your rant is totally justified. I have been a member of a credit union for years and pay no fees.
@@cathydiamond6573 I have some kind of premium account I guess. The credit union charges me $8/month if I don't use my debit card at least 4 times that month.
Okay, I agree with everything BUT air fryer. It's a game changer for me. It's very different from the oven because it actually circulates very hot air very fast. Very minimal clean up, cooking time is usually less. If saves me so much time.
Yes, yes and yes. I totally agree. One thing that changed a lot for me was getting a used sewing machine and teaching myself to sew. Not necessarily clothes. More like pillows, cushions, curtains, blankets, bags, daily practical stuff. And I mainly upcycle old fabric. That way I can save so much money! And it’s fun.
Yes! But you can still do simple clothing alterations, too. Like if you have a shirt that you like but the sleeves are too long or long sleeve too short, you can alter them instead of just getting rid of them.
One of the better investments I ever made. I learned to sew in my 50s. Never threaded a needle and had no idea what a bobbin was or what it did. I wanted to sew my own tote bags and that was pretty much it. However, with the power of RUclips and the wonderful people on here willing to share their knowledge, I ended up sewing maxi skirts and hats and aprons. I didn't realize the many uses of an apron actually. I have sewn holes in my own clothes. I love it. I started out with the basic bottom of the barrel sewing machine but then needed something with a little more zaz for thicker material.
One thing I need to share as a woman is how much money I saved after getting a silicon menstrual cup, back in 2016. I spent the equivalent of a few months of pads/tampons at once to buy it and since then I haven't spend anymore as I am using the same silicon cup. It lasts up to 10 years and it is so much better and comfortable than pads or tampons. It's hard for me to estimate the exact amount I saved as I moved countries but Imagine 7 years worth of pads/tampons you didn't have to buy!
I don't know if it's still a thing but in addition to washable pads, we used to use natural sponges. Some women complained of leaking but some women loved them.
All True. I'm handicapped. I don't drive or have transportation. Have to pay my neighbor $20 each time to go anywhere in town. Take care of my dog myself, except her claws, which I cannot physically do. Pay $7 each month to have that done. Go out to eat once a month. Do not buy bread, pop, sugar, or salt for home.
12:00 - Not using dryer sheets. Static was a problem with my old dryer, but not so much with my newer one. However, I do use something -- two wool balls that I toss into the dryer. I can use them again and again, and they cost about 5 bucks. They're anti-static, and they help to separate the items in the dryer for quicker drying.
Your mini rants are hilarious truth bombs! I feel so much joy after watching your videos. You're like my super smart, strong and honest BFF. Sending love from L.A!
Love your videos, keep 'em coming :) (Especially the bank rant) In defense of air fryers, they cook a lot quicker and are far cheaper to run. Ovens are great if you have a family, but if you're cooking for yourself, you're heating up so much extra space for nothing. I don't think I've ever used all the shelves in my oven. I would get rid of my oven over my air fryer.
Kitchens to me are mostly oversized and holders of excessive junk. I need just a few small appliances. I suppose if I’d had 6-10 kids one right after the other, it might be good for awhile.
Love your pearls of wisdom and truth-bombs! I don’t spend money on fancy yoga clothes and yoga studios (I do RUclips pyjama yoga of a morning). Also dining out (I love making my own food), and I use only 3 cleaning products. I download books on my phone through a free library app, have replaced one use hobby items with knitting needles and roller skates and a hula hoop. Freeing .. your videos are purely freeing!
My only splurge is lululemon “we made too much” clothes and The Mirror Studio subscription. It’s my only sub and I use it multiple times a day. Worth every penny for me. I wear my fancy yoga pants under dresses to work. Then when I get home, just a sports bra with those yoga tights and I’m ready to work out after taking that dress off.
Washing your car, especially if you live in a place that salts the roads in the winter, or if you live near an ocean, is very important. Washing protects the car from rust.
Where I live you can pay for a yearly membership to a wash and it's half the cost of paying individually. And they are priced competitively for single washes as well
Libraries are great sources of LOTS of things, not just books. As aspiring minimalists, we should be good at defering pleasure, so I don't ever rent streaming movies. If there's something I want to see, I see if it is or wait until it's available from our public library and get it on DVD there. Our library system also allows many online access to things like NYT, etc (not full access, but for a day, and then you have to re-do it but it's still there) or obviously paper copies if you go to the physical library. Puzzles and games, too. Ours even lends out fishing poles and tackle boxes!
Using the library, I always feel like I wind up recommending the best and latest books, movies, and shows to my friends who pay for their books and have 4-5 streaming services!
You are like my “attitude doppelgänger” 😂 I was nodding my head to every single item. I don’t own a pet (unless you count poultry as pets), and my family have a TV (but I would not if solo), and you got a “Hell yeah!” for your bank fee rant. Great list, I really enjoy your channel and no-nonsense attitude!
I would also like to note for people that do buy fabric softener - vinegar does more or less the same thing is much, much cheaper. Also, fabric softener is supposed to be the thing reducing static and vinegar does that, too.
I buy fake plants at thrift stores. I'm selective about the fake plants I buy, making sure they look realistic, not fake. As an elderly person on a fixed income who loves lots of greenery in and around my home, I have over 50 live indoor plants + another 30+ outdoor plants in pots which I have to care for daily. Despite walking around my home each morning, carefully checking every pot in an attempt to monitor the moisture level, I often end up killing plants here in southern California where the temperature can be above 100 degrees for weeks on end during the summer or unexpectedly drop below freezing during the winter. Since I don't use the AC to cool my entire house, only the room I occupy, my plants can dry out in a matter of hours. The cost of live plants has skyrocketed, so it can be a real hit to my budget when I kill one - not to mention the emotional trauma at the loss of a friend I've nurtured. Yes, I propagate plants myself and I trade with neighbors and friends, but even so, there are costs associated with pots, soil and water, not to mention the time investment. Considering all the above, a good fake plant doesn't monopolize my time and energy, it looks good in my opinion, and because I purchase at thrift shops, they cost way less than an average fake plant or a live plant - and the best part is that fake plants don't die! As I get older, it's harder and harder to do all the household upkeep I used to do, so I appreciate having one less thing to maintain.
I use my Hydroflask bottle daily. I only have one because i found it brand new at Salvation Army for $3.00. I can find almost anything i want at thrift stores.
I'd like to offer a tip. I do the same thing with (larger) Mason Jars for liquids I keep in the fridge. I changed to plastic wide mouth lids after the metal ones left little rusty rings around the top of the jar when used for liquids (might not be good for you). Nice to know someone else is also doing so many of the things I do to save or stop clutter. For me, the lifestyle buys freedom.
I need to say that buying Hydro Flask (the biggest one with an optional straw) 2 years agos was my best purchase EVER. I am frugal person too and I was battling myself if I should buy or not. For me it is everything I ever needed for drinks. I use it everyday (walks, workouts, trips, shopping etc.), it keeps my cold liquids cold for 2 days and hot liquids for the whole day too. I couldn't find anything cheaper with a straw and big enough to fill with over 1L of liquid. Also, it is very solid and still looks like new product. Sooo after getting this bottle I trully understand the hype. Also, subscribed! Love your content, we seem to have so much in common (despite that bottles thing :D). Have a great day Nicole!
Ps. I bought my Flask on a big discount (in my place of living it is not that popular and I got it from the only mountain gear and equipment shop that sells it in my country), it cost me ~60% less!
I was gifted a hydro flask 3 yrs ago and I can confirm that it is far superior to a mason jar. That said I don’t understand how many people seem to have many multiple water bottles or portable coffee thermos more than 2 seems really excessive to me.
I was gifted one as well... and unless your keen on those numbers under the plastic bottles or containers, your exposing yourself to toxins and the porosity/porous-ity can harbor a lot of bacteria and never get it clean.
@@ayannahendricks6266 I agree. I bought an insulated travel cup with a stainless steel interior several years ago. It was around 5 dollars, and I've used it every day since then. I live in the south, and if you leave a cup of water in your car that's not insulated, it's going to turn into HOT water in minutes lol. My travel cup keeps my water cold and icy for hours, & also will keep coffee hot for hours. But I don't understand the water bottle collections people have either. Why would anyone need more than one?
@@ayannahendricks6266 I have multiple thermos and plastic flasks and a bunch of teacups. I'm a tea lover and for years, I was gifted with tea, flasks, teacups, or thermos. I had to request not to give them any more.
Message of the video: Don't just blindly follow trends. Think for yourself. You'll save a lot of money and have the added bonus of not being like everyone else.
When I wanted to stop the crazy spending, I had to look at every purchase I made and ask myself, Why do I this, what’s my goal, Do I really need it or want it? Made all the difference.
Girl, you knock the nail on the head. Buying all kinds of crap, just to be trendy, is the financial downfall of many people. Less stuff in your house, and more money in your bank account, is what gets you ahead in life.
With you all the way on almost everything. Even the toaster. BUT... I think I save a bunch with my toaster oven. Plenty big for cooking for one, faster and a lot less power used than the big oven. IMHO.
Pleeeeaasse don't stop making videos. I am a fan, because it's your content is one I can relate the most. Every single video on you playlist helps me a lot whenever I do my chores...any chore I do. ❤️
Extended warranties can be awesome for exactly one reason: if you are savvy you can turn the tables on them! In the days before they expire, you can take advantage of their repair or replace policy and get a brand new item. This works wonderfully for headphones which almost always have lots of wear and tear or are damaged somehow after two years of use.
There's probably going to be one or two things that a lot of people can't do without because it saves them time or money in having the said twenty things, but the majority of the things Nicole mentions are absolutely spot on and I agree with!
When I go on vacation I buy a refrigerator magnet as my souvenir. I borrow books from the library. I do wear perfume, but I use ONE scent until it is finished then I buy a new one.
I am 100% loving this content! I’m glad I found your channel. I’ve been going on a deep dive with the ladies online who do envelope stuffing and sinking funds.… All that different way of budgeting. It’s been fun to learn. I’ve actually never budgeted. I’ve been frugal enough to enjoy and save. But the past two jobs for me have been a pay cut so I’ll need to pay a little more attention, and I think budgeting, and budgeting with cash, will help me stay focused.

9/10. Toasters, I agree with you. However, my wife loves toast and I value my life so we have them. Her toaster oven balances nicely with my coffee machines, which are also frivolous, but I value my time, and the machines cost less than just a few trips to Starcups or Central Perk. That toaster takes far less to heat up a slice of toast too. Great before I have to rush off to work, with my Yeti mug good for hours warm in hand. Win-win!
I agree with the perfume thing. I always felt so bad for my babies when they come home from church and their head was cradles up into someone’s stinky perfumed neck. Had to give them an extra bath just to relieve their sense of smell.
I really like this creator, new to me so gotta binge watch a few vids but seriously knows their worth, isn't blinded by the system, and freaking blunt🎉 10/10 actually let's double up that point 20/20 🤓
Agree and do on so many levels and LOVED your mini rant on banking fees 🤩 I was in MLM and totally blinded. Since leaving, NOBODY has stayed in touch. Glad I saw the 💡
Yes I’m right there with you on avoiding mlm products, they are for sure scams and predatory. I used to be in quite a few and shamelessly used their tactics to sell and recruit ( they brainwash you), I wasted so much money and time. The products are overpriced too, you can find better elsewhere. Loved this list, it definitely had me thinking of some things I could cut from my life.
I love the rants, your honesty and the fact that you don't give a F!@k, I wish more people were like you, I can't stand the disingenuity and bullshit of businesses & a lot of people in general.
Dryer sheets 100% break down your clothes and make them not last as long. My husband noticed my clothes wearing out much faster than his after we moved in together (we did laundry separately). My clothes would get holes in them easier whereas his t-shirts would last him over a decade at times. I stopped using them and just decided to use reusable wool dryer balls to add essential oils for scent (I tend to sweat a lot in the hot climate I live in so I appreciate the added scent).
Do you see a difference in your clothing? I've thought about changing over, but I appreciate the scent from the dryer sheets. It's my one of last things that I don't use homemade or reusable
@@amynunya6167 Switching to dryer balls definitely helped make my clothes last longer. The essential oils don't provide as strong of a smell, but I can smell it on my clothes initially and I think it overall helps with any body odor on them.
I've been cutting my own hair for the past 20+ years...I've had my fair share of jacked up haircuts 🤣It's fun! I used to have some fake plants, but I started getting into real plants in 2020... now I'm basically living in a jungle. I water propagate them so I'm just constantly creating new plants that I can give away as gifts. I looked into pet insurance as well, and it definitely wasn't worth it for us. I read that fabric softener is really bad for washing machines as well 🤷
Me too I have super long hair and when I went to the hairdresser to cut my hair he cut off seven inches when I asked for a trim I was horrified and I will never go back to a salon...I like long hair.
@@EsmeraldaWolfsbane7777 I have hip long hair I used to trim myself no big deal. Styling your hair with cutting is a skill tho so when I want bangs and layers I go to someone who knows how to. I could do a few face framing ones but they still would do the weird flip out at different angles thing going on. Or unless your the one who is spending hours watching tutorials, looking up styles, know special terminology, have pro sizzors, hooks up your friends then they say "you should get your license!!!" Then yeah that makes sense. Otherwise... it just kinda looks like 😬😬😬 idk.
I agree using dryer sheets in the dryer don’t always work but rubbing the dryer sheet directly on whatever is staticky is effective. Another great video ❤️
The thing about books ...the author gets no money for swapped books! I definitely buy books, either on Kindle or paper books, unless the book is no longer in print. I'm paying for the time and work that an author has put into writing-it's kind of a thing with me. Artists, musicians and authors only get paid if you buy their stuff-so I buy their stuff. 🙂 I like what you said about saving money in a special fund, rather than paying out for pet insurance. If you never use it, then you have it saved, and if you do need it you've got it. If you start when they are very young, chances are you'll be fine if/when they do need the medical help. I have a great time looking through gadget catalogues, because I always have fun thinking of how I can do the same things without the gadgets! So many of the other things you mention I totally agree with! Mind you, I love my toaster ...but I love toast, so there you go. As for my hair ...I have weird fuzzy hair which nobody has ever understood. I'm 74 years old now, and the last time I paid (or rather my parents paid) to get my hair done was in 1962, when I was 13 years old. The woman gave me a haircut that looked ridiculous because she wouldn't listen to me when I told her what my hair would and wouldn't do. She charged $25 for the privilege of making me look like crap-which was a lot of money back then. I decided if I'm going to get a haircut that makes me look like crap, I might as well do it myself for free. I've learned to cut and deal with my hair myself all my life. I don't colour it, straighten it, etc. I don't wear makeup either. Both those together have saved me TONS of money! And I don't wear perfume either. Basically, what you see is what you get with me. For better or for worse. My husband is happy with my non-artificial presentation, so that's cool. Great video, by the way. I subscribed. I love your refreshing approach to living in the real world.
I like all the unconventional items mentioned like warranties, toasters, perfume, bank fees, tv. The little rant about MLM products was very satisfying. I've been going through Robert L. Fitzpatrick's Ponzinomics which is all about MLMs.
I really enjoyed your videos. But on the souvenirs, I totally get you with the no need for plastic crap and love that. But my ex had a frige full of magnets of places the family went and there was a story behind every one. To me that is a great exception to the idea of no plastic crap. Plus it is a great supplement to a photo album. You could classify this practice under hobby/collection. Thanks for bring this life style to light and sharing it with people. So many pepole want to make more money and so few think of how to save more money.
Agree, people get sucked in about what we need. Simple life is way better. My friends say you don’t do what you don’t want to do, hell yeah why would people follow what other people do if it doesn’t ring true to them . Love your blogs
It's not always that someone can't afford a car. In many cities - at least here int he U.S. people can walk or take public transportation where they need to go, and therefore don't keep a car. However, there are also many areas which are a stark contrast, and there is no public transportation. In more rural or suburban areas it may be nearly a 30 minute (or more) drive to the restaurant when you want to get your food. For me It is a minimum of 20 minutes to get anywhere and a "quick trip" to pick something up is an hour and half of my time. If I am working in my home office, going out to pick something up isn't always an option - and it has literally nothing to do with affordability. The point is that what is reasonable for one person may be nearly impossible for someone else. Not everyone has the same lifestyle or even the same resources available.
When the pandemic started, I had an appointment with a hairdresser. Unfortunately, two days before my visit all hair salons were closed. My ends were in terrible condition and I had to cut them off. So what did I do? I found a tutorial on YT showing how to cut the ends myself, bought Fiskars hairdressing scissors (quality!) online and cut my hair. It took me about 5 minutes and with this skill I saved a lot of money on this service. The cost of the scissors paid for itself after one use! Hairdressing salons are open now, but I still cut the ends myself.
PS. If someone is feeling inspired and wants to buy their own hairdressing scissors, remember - do not use hairdressing scissors to cut anything other than hair. If they become blunt, they will damage (crush) the ends of the hair when cutting!
Trimming is good to diy... but bangs and styling cuts... unless your getting really into it, like you said .... investing hours in tutorials, have a pair of sizzors just for hair, then yes. Like you said it's a SKILL.
So true. - Kitchen stuff I regret: A watermelon slicer! What was I thinking? In the first place, I rarely buy watermelons. and any knife would do. And then also a really sharp slicer for veggies. It cut off a little slice of my finger, never used it again. Anybody out there in need of a watermelon slicer? You can have it for free.
Love your channel! Brand new subscriber here and to add to your list, I’d say the latest and greatest cleaning supplies are one thing that I won’t be buying this year. A bottle of vinegar and some water are all I really need. As a past cleaning supply hoarder, I can honestly say that for the most part, water will clean most things, but vinegar will disinfect everything. 😊
Absolutely love your channel. I'm 58 years old and I always pick up some nice idea from your channel. And your extremely easy to listen to. Thank you. Please keep posting.
I agree with most things except the water bottles lol. This is the bill I’ll die on. They keep water SO cold which is refectory for me. Also I bought the yeti about ten years ago and it’s still perfect! Much love!
I do the Mason jar iced drink in my car thing. I just like how drinks taste out of glass and a 12 ounce one fits perfectly in my cup holder. I help out at a charity thrift store. You wouldn't believe how many of those fancy water bottles are donated and are in sale for a dollar or two!
New subscriber to your channel. I laughed & love how you blasted at the banks for charging fees to their customers…so true! I personally share many of the things you don’t pay for (even the controversy or hot take items): pet insurance, pet grooming, bank fees, car wash, food delivery, souvenirs, single use items, fake plants, extended warranty… What you said resonate with me well. Keep up the good work Nicole 👍
Agreed … except for little souvenirs collected in my past holidays.. little spoons, with the flag of the visited country , magnet for my fridge… it is a pleasure to look at them and remember these precious moments with my then kids… now grown adults like you . A sixty something french young retired follower!
The reusable water bottle can be a sound investment. I bought a Camelbak insulated reusable water bottle and have used it for 3 years. But I also drink 1 to 2 gallons of water every day.
🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 I was bitching to my husband yesterday about car wash “subscriptions.” NOBODY CARES if your car is dirty. And even if they did, why would you care if they did?!? Loved the video.
Wish I didn't care if my car was dirty. I have OCD about my car being spotless. And I live in a place where roads are heavily treated in winter. I stay home alot!!!!! And wash/wax it myself.
I agree. Even when I bought my first new car I could easily keep it looking great with a 2 dollar DIY wash every month or two. Some of the subscriptions locally are like 30 per month, no thanks. I bet most people who buy those subscriptions don't even go more than once a month for that 30 dollars.
Thank you for a great list. Laundry softeners reduce fabric absorbency, like towels. In fact, I intentionally choose a laundry detergent that does not have a built-in fabric softener.
On the point about water bottles/travel mugs: I cannot tell you how many we’ve gotten free over the years, my husband & I being in school and companies handing out merch and what not (which of course we try to decline to reduce clutter). One time I got free yeti from my job as an xmas gift and I still use it all the time. On the point about cutting your own hair: Yes. I have long hair and just trim it when it’s getting dried & split. Takes less than 10 minutes, and I didn’t waste gas mileage, time, or money going to a salon. And I actually like my hair better than if someone else did it, Also, I’ve noticed ladies salons are significantly more expensive than a barber shop. My husband goes to the barber shop for about $20 (thats with tip) and with it being a men’s cut it does require more attention to detail. Where as I try to go to for a trim and it’s $40 plus tip cause they do the shampooing, then the blow drying and all the products blah blah blah. and then they have the audacity to try to upsell you their shampoo or products. I also don’t have a toaster. I just use a pan and toast the bread on the stove if I want toasted bread. I also don’t have air fryer or instantpot or any thing else. The only appliance I have is a blender (which I love and use all the time!! smoothies, sauces, or sometimes I’ll blend up soup to make it creamy.) For coffee I have an aeropress- requires no electricity and makes the most delicious cup of coffee.
By all means, boycott salons if you’re so inclined and lucky enough to not need a style cut, but please let me clear you up on a few things and I mean no offence here. I just want to address the down-play of my profession. There is just as much ‘attention to detail’ in cutting women’s hair as it is to cut men’s hair. In fact, more goes in to cutting women’s hair sometimes. You say you just trim the bottom of your hair, which means you have a basic style and the type of hair where you can do that, cool, congratulations. Most people walking around have had what we call a style cut. It’s a little involved and attention to detail is required. Hairdressing/Barbering is a noble profession and it’s costs money and time to study it. Not everyone can do it, it’s a skill set and a service industry. They charged you $40 for a trim because their skill and service has to be paid for. The arm workout they do to blow dry your hair, was taught to them by either a mentor or at a school they paid to attend, either way, it’s time and money they spent honing their art. They’re proud of their art. All the products blah blah blah, costs money, it’s not free, but to us it makes a big difference to protecting your hair or enhancing it. We need it. Hair is a crowning glory. It’s important to most. The audacity of trying to upsell you their products… it’s a service for profit and that pays the hairdressers a wage so said hairdressers can buy food to put on the table. All businesses have to run at a profit, they’re not sitting around waiting to just break even, they’ll bankrupt. I get really upset when people cheapen my profession and downplay the skill set. We are not a greedy corporation like a bank or insurance company, we’re a small cog in the industrial wheel offering an awesome service and an amazing scalp massage (worth every bloody cent if you ask me). The “audacity” you say, of trying to upsell you… let’s say something like pretty highlights, or haircare products that will look after your hair for example, is no different to any other profession that is trying to make a profit. It’s a livelihood. It’s just not needed as much by those with no style required for their hair, which I disagree with that decision but can respect. When I was barbering I’d cut guys hair in 10-15 minutes. A ladies basic trim (which I’m sorry, obviously means different thing to you & I), would take me double that time. I would be the stupidest person ever if I didn’t charge accordingly.
@@suzilahlah Maybe she meant that she doesn't see the point in doing all those things for a basic trim for the way her hair is, not that she expects to get those things for free. When I had long hair I asked around at so many salons if we could skip the shampooing, combing, blow dryer, and "styling" products that did nothing to my hair. I asked if I could come in with it washed and combed before hand. I wasn't even asking for a price reduction. They all said no, for various reasons. So I would go far longer than I should have to get a trim because they all insisted on shampooing it weird by pilling it on top of itself and roughly rubbing it around and tangling it horribly. Then they didn't know how to comb out the mess they made so I would be in so much pain and would lose lots of hair from it being pulled out and broken instead of detangled. Add more damage by the blow dryer. Then they would take forever to trim it because they would separate it in many small layers and trim each layer individually, and for some reason were always stopping to re-wet it. Bonus points to the ones that gave me layers without asking and made my hair look so thin at the ends. Every time that happened I had to get a trim again at another place. The last time I had just 3 obvious clumps of hair hanging separately far below the main hair line. That's what made me finally wise up and hand my drunken mom scissors every time I wanted a trim. Guess what came of that? A better result (no pain, damage, or layers) and a lot less time. A few minutes vs 2-3 hours of torture. If doing all this stuff for hair that doesn't need it because money is a concern, then would it be feasible to instead just do a simple 5-10 minute trim for those who ask, which would free up so much time to schedule other customers that day? Wouldn't that make more money? Then there's the fact that all that nonsense is the very thing turning certain people away, therefore having salons lose out on even more money and customers.
Car washes can be VERY important in certain states during the winter. In my home state, the chemicals used to melt the snow can rapidly rust out a vehicle. Winter car washes to remove that chemical, and extend the life of your vehicle is far cheaper than repairing/replacing your vehicle.
I'm on my 3rd video of yours and already loving your vibe, advice, and style. Especially love hearing things that go against my instincts or previous views. Love new ways of seeing life and the world. Keep it up Nicole 😎
You’re awesome, I do so many of these things and it’s nice to hear other people taking about it. I do have a 32” tv, but people keep asking me when I’m going to get a bigger tv… it’s unreal, my tiny tv apparently just isn’t enough. 😂
Toaster or toaster oven … on the other hand … buying bread and freezing it lets you toast or tgaw what you want as you want it and prevents throwing lots of bread away
You’ve made me realize I haven’t bought many of the things I have. I have large insulated Yeti-like cups. Air fryer, toaster oven, George Foreman grill, food processor, and those kinds of things, which have all been bought for me by people who thought I “needed” them. But I need to get rid of some of those things. 🤔
1) I love your honesty and clarity. 2) I disagree about the car. I don't own a car but I OCCASIONALLY allow myself to spend more on food delivery or ride shares because I am saving so much on not having a car. Allowing myself to have small indulgence makes it sustainable to keep up with not having a car. Also many people CANT DRIVE.
Hey Nicole, love your videos. I've been in and out of minimalism, and now I realize with corporations gouging us every day, we have to pay attention. I would love to see you do a video on mortgage rates, interest, and alternatives to mortgages, which over the long haul cost us almost as much as the house. I hate paying interest!
@@RobertR3750 I am 76 years old, and if I had a chance to do it all over again, I would invest in a tiny or small house, pay it off, find a piece of land, and live as closely as possible to off grid.
My problem is definitely hobbies. I LOVE sewing, plants, crafts, baking, etc etc etc.. it costs a lot of money, but it’s incredibly fulfilling. I already thrift books, fabric, and more. Idk how to save money while not sacrificing what I enjoy in life.
I agree with the dog grooming 100 percent I used to have poodles and they wanted to change me 150 dollars to groom them, ALSO many many people I know told me their dogs were hurt at the groomer!! It's really not worth it and a huge risk, when I was younger my friend had a dog who needed a haircut so when we went to pick up the dog she was sedated, they did not ask my friends family if they could do that, they just did it and the dog remained sedated for an entire day and they thought the dog was going to die...so yes I agree with you absolutely.
The funny thing is years ago when I started my debt free journey my financial coach who is also my best friend and a millionaire told me to buy the largest yeti tumbler and always have it with me. I have had it for years. I thought it was insane when he told me to drop 45 bucks on it but the returns on that yeti investment was 1000 fold. I no longer set foot in convenience stores, coffe shops, or any places that sell drinks. It holds my ice in the 100 plus South Texas degrees heat and high humidity even when leave it in the car. I buy a 12 pack or a 2 liters of soda and take them to work or leave them in the trunk of the car. I run out the Yeti has my ice intact and i refill it. Holds my iced coffee I make at home my entire work day.
I'll have to say, an air fryer is cheaper to run than an oven. Since moving to this property 4 years ago, I have only used the oven two or three times.
If we don’t cook at home or eat leftovers, we will order by phone from a place and pick it up ourselves, then make leftovers from that. I feel that at the restaurant, we actually eat MORE than when at home dividing it up! Another weird thing I do is I got my eyebrows “tattooed” sorta. It requires one touch up a year which is pretty affordable. I feel like if I Have my brows done, I don’t have to wear hardly any other makeup. Maybe lipgloss/lipstick b/c i need something on my lips for the feeling. My dog is short-haired and weighs 5 lbs so she needs no grooming and is a very frugal creature. I go to the library for their fill-up-a-bag for $3 sale and hoard massive amounts for cheap. Then I read/donate them to others. I don’t wear my smart watch anymore b/c it wasn’t keeping track of my exercise appropriately and I became lazy. I think a sleek plain other watch looks classier.
While I may not agree with anything I totally respect your stance and we all should really be more cognizant of where our money goes and what is worth it in our lives. Also, simplii financial rocks.
New subscriber. I have 2 tablets and a laptop. The “mini” is used for reading with the larger one now used mostly for watching RUclips. I was without a tv for over 6 years but I have grandkids and as they’ve aged, the purchase was to ensure overall calmness on visits. No more fighting over who gets the bigger device. I invested in Samsung “Frame” tv (I know that there’s less expensive brands, but I like their products). I enjoy the dual function.
Hot Takes #1 Cars cost from the moment they leave the dealers lot, but maintenance can add up to twice that, even under warrantee. Paying an Uber driver to risk traffic accidents and wear & tear is more than cost-effective. Especially in places where it snows.
May sound strange to say but I absolutely loved lockdown. Not having to go out & just enjoying peace & quiet.
Me too!
I am in healthcare, so I had to work through it, but I was always so envious of those that didn't have to go out. 😂 It was an introvert's dream!
As an introvert who enjoys alone time, I agree.
Absolutely 😊 during lockdown I literally got my shit together, sold things I didn’t need, paid off a debt and had peace for once in my life
It was the best 😂
This sounds like my rant to co-workers when they say they don’t have any money. Well you have 4 tvs, 8 purses, 3 couches, 16 coffee mugs, a $250 cable package, & go out to dinner 4 times a week….derp. I don’t care what people buy as long as they don’t complain about finances.
Exactly 😅
oh gosh exactly.
I did an audit on what I was spending each month. One by one I cut off direct debits from certain channels I don’t watch anymore.
Don’t forget the smoking too. I don’t have any money puff puff 💨
It's easier to blame it on "the economy" and "the government."
I don't care what anyone says about you, I think your channel is AMAZING! Please continue to educate us. 🙏❤️🙏

@@walterallen4069 I do. I implied the salt issue. I see so many rusted out cars and idiots stuck in a ditch during winter.
@@walterallen4069 Your rolling "investment" is a depreciating liability regardless of what you do.
What ‘performance gain’? A faster 0-60?
@@themoodyteam a little bit. But also longer lasting parts on the undercarriage. Salt is hell on metal parts.
She must not travel far enough to worry about refilling
I agree. I actually love my credit union. I’ve never paid a fee with them. Super friendly staff, too.
I noticed my credit union has charged me for not using my savings account.
I use my air fryer almost every day. Skinless chicken. Very easy, very little mess.
Great!
Nothing gets past Nicole. You understand the assignment of life.
Less trash also.
Less toxic for your body and the environment too ❤
Yikes! TMI.
I don't know if it's still a thing but in addition to washable pads, we used to use natural sponges. Some women complained of leaking but some women loved them.
@@Mike-zw7fqNot TMI. Just a natural stuff that shouldn't feel taboo.
Dont know about the airfryer part. They are magic! Most used appliance in the house. Cheaper, faster and easier than the convection oven.
I love the wool balls. Mine lasted about 4 years before replacing which I feel is great.
Have you ever tried a few drops of essential oil on the wool balls?
@@chrismullin8304 -- Never tried that. Maybe I will. Thanks. Have a nice holiday. Joe.
Dryer sheets are bad for alot of reasons
I throw a couple of dry clean towels in my load to shorten the dry as well.

Keep on being you. Breath of fresh air.
Love your videos, keep 'em coming :) (Especially the bank rant)
In defense of air fryers, they cook a lot quicker and are far cheaper to run. Ovens are great if you have a family, but if you're cooking for yourself, you're heating up so much extra space for nothing. I don't think I've ever used all the shelves in my oven. I would get rid of my oven over my air fryer.
Agree…since we got the air fryer we haven’t used the oven once. Cheaper to use, faster and so much easier to clean.
Air fryer and instant pot save energy verses using the stove or oven. I use them both constantly.
Kitchens to me are mostly oversized and holders of excessive junk. I need just a few small appliances. I suppose if I’d had 6-10 kids one right after the other, it might be good for awhile.
Air fryer is so useful and fast to me. And energy efficient. So glad i have one.
Love the fact u only use 3 cleaning products!
Definitely! And using Libby with your library card 😄 Perfect for books and audiobooks
I just found out that my library has hand tools and an ice cream maker for lend !
Using the library, I always feel like I wind up recommending the best and latest books, movies, and shows to my friends who pay for their books and have 4-5 streaming services!
My library is in my home.
You are like my “attitude doppelgänger” 😂 I was nodding my head to every single item. I would also like to note for people that do buy fabric softener - vinegar does more or less the same thing is much, much cheaper. Also, fabric softener is supposed to be the thing reducing static and vinegar does that, too.
Good tip. Also vinegar is antibacterial.
Agree 100%. I stopped using fabric softener years ago and switched to vinegar. It works great.

Very sensible commentary. No BS just honest facts. Your presentation is amazing and it’s what everyone needs to hear. Thank you so much.

Win-win!

Dryer sheets 100% break down your clothes and make them not last as long. My husband noticed my clothes wearing out much faster than his after we moved in together (we did laundry separately). My clothes would get holes in them easier whereas his t-shirts would last him over a decade at times. I stopped using them and just decided to use reusable wool dryer balls to add essential oils for scent (I tend to sweat a lot in the hot climate I live in so I appreciate the added scent).
might also be because woman's fashion usually is of worse quality

I agree using dryer sheets in the dryer don’t always work but rubbing the dryer sheet directly on whatever is staticky is effective. Another great video ❤️
I always take extra coffee to work in a mason jar. It leaves me with a good feeling that others do this too.
I like what you said about saving money in a special fund, rather than paying out for pet insurance.
Been a no fee girl all my life, nice to see you share a lot of my ideals. Thanks for voicing these matters.
Much love!
I think everyone should watch this once a year to be reminded of these things… Thanks!
I just love the way how you speak. So confident🤗
New subscriber to your channel.
I laughed & love how you blasted at the banks for charging fees to their customers…so true!
I personally share many of the things you don’t pay for (even the controversy or hot take items): pet insurance, pet grooming, bank fees, car wash, food delivery, souvenirs, single use items, fake plants, extended warranty…
What you said resonate with me well. Keep up the good work Nicole 👍
I am addicted to this channel! 🤩
Thanks, I feel better about my dirty car 😅 The outside gets dirty after 2 - 3 days where I live.
You go girl!!! I am also of the mindset I don't want to pay interest; I want to make it!!
I’ve got 32” tv, when people come over.
They always say why haven’t you got a bigger tv.
It’s fine for me.
Re mortgages: Pay it off FAST if you can. Saves a LOT of interest.
It's a bonding experience to groom your own pets.
Love love love your rant about banking fees❤
Thanks for mentioning MLMs , they’re such a scam.
While I may not agree with anything I totally respect your stance and we all should really be more cognizant of where our money goes and what is worth it in our lives. Also, simplii financial rocks.
Really loving your videos. Most things I already do, but there’s room to grow.
I don't have a pet. That saves me a lot of money.
Same, or a car, I save a whole lot that way
Yes, you save money but you really don't know what you are missing in terms of love, fun and laughter.
I absolutely love your rants 😂! Truly enjoy your videos and find myself thinking about the topics you discuss differently. Thanks for your perspective
No TV. Agree 100%. I haven't had a TV for 35 years and don't miss it even though all the old shows are online if you want to watch them.
I’m disabled I will never be able to drive and cooking is very difficult so judging ppl isn’t great but I do get it
Hot Takes #1 Cars cost from the moment they leave the dealers lot, but maintenance can add up to twice that, even under warrantee. Paying an Uber driver to risk traffic accidents and wear & tear is more than cost-effective. Especially in places where it snows.
