George, keep trying stuff and being you. We all love you for it! Better to try something and have a good story than play it safe and boring all the time!! Keep up the great work.
100% always good to try new things and I’m going to give it a good go, you can’t really tell in 1 weekend if it’s right for you 🤷♂️ it will take time to adjust
Impressed that you rode the Surrey League stage race on a 1 x set up, I've got the same set up on my Gravel bike and the chain does occasionally drop when I'm in the smallest gear and spinning out downhill but other than that I love it. I'll probably cross paths with you at the end of the year as I'll be doing some of the Gorrick races. Really enjoying the content as you're very local to me. Good luck with the next one.
I have slowly realised the 1x set up isn’t ideal for road racing… the jumps between gears is a little bit too big when you are on the limit. My chain drops if I hit a pothole and don’t have tension on the chain, it’s a nightmare! Ahh mega I will definitely see you at a few 🙌
Thing is George, aero is all good but take it from one that’s been riding bikes and competing for 40 odd years, you need good legs and a good engine and given that you’ll be spending time in the middle of a bunch aero doesn’t really have a massive benefit, use your head and I’m sure you’ll smash it👍
To be honest it’s more to test the waters and try a different position, my old position was far to upright. I’m not likely to do any more road racing now so I won’t get the benefit of the bunch. However when I’m on the front of the group ride or doing a chaingang it’s all about being aero 😜😂
bike looks sweet - hopefully you can adjust to the position and get a decent fit soon - fair play making all those changes and still racing on the new set up but it is what it is! your XC MTB is nicer though :)
Bike looks good. But one thing to note. Turning your hoods in actually forces your elbows OUTWARDS. Not inwards. And if they aren't spot on it throws the front ends handling off. A way to test it is by riding with no hands. I had my hoods staggered like this before. But I couldn't ride hands free. Very unstable. But just my experience.
Thanks for the tip, this setup definitely took some getting used to and I don’t have the hoods as aggressively inwards now… I found that with the narrower handlebars it wasn’t needed but they are still slightly in as I find it more comfortable 👌 you definitely lose some handling but I haven’t really races it this summer so it hasn’t been overly important but will be interesting when I do race with this setup 🤔
@GiorgioCoppolaCycling I had my hoods staggered inwards before. I had the same idea in mind (getting more aero) I also thought it looked bad ass, which it does. So slightly turned isn't a big deal.
To add to my last comment George, its funny how things come back around, in the early days 👴most people used to TT on single chain rings, think I turned 55 or 56 x 13, huge gears, 🥵🥵 so single chain rings are nothing new but if it works why not, the pros seem to be leaning that way and with the cassette ratios available these days you can get the gears you need
I’ve had the single chain ring a good few years now and it was a bad decision but cost so much that I’m committed to it 👎 the jump in gears is too big and the chain always comes off… probably why Wout runs a chain catcher 😂
I read somewhere that a narrow/wide chainring is helping against chain drops 🤡 may I suggest TPU inner tubes (2023 trend), and lastly but mainly having these wheels balanced ? Sorry for your back, I hope you'll find a good position... and stop eating oat cookies while filming 😂😂
😂 time to go back to 2x 😂 Will have a look at TPU inner tubes 👌 I did see a video the other day on getting wheels balanced and it is a consideration, it’s definitely got to make a difference and sorry no more oat cookies 😬😂
Getting aero and producing power is a balancing act, too slammed and your power drops and all that. If you are fortunate you'll have a flat back and still do the wattage but most of us are like Richard the 3rd or Quasimodo..

Very classy
Bike looking stunning. Crazy what a pair of wheels can do! :)
Thanks mate and I know it can absolutely transform a bike 👌
Hi Giorgio; GCN made multiple video's about latex inner tubes! They are 'the most bang for your buck', so I would definately recommend!
🙌 will try and find the video to have a watch but it looks like that could be the next upgrade 🤔
Alright if you have support car with spare wheels but you have to consider puncture resistance

@@GiorgioCoppolaCycling See you at Dinton. I'm bringing my 1 x 12.

New bikes are always fun! Plus if you like how it looks it does add speed! Just trust the science! 😂
Look good, feel good… go fast! It’s 100% science 😂
Classic superbike.
THAT looks naughty. Proper weapon now sir 🥵
🙌 just need to be able to ride it now 😂
Latex tubes would be a good shout. Cheaper than TPU ones but just as quick.
👌 going to look into getting some… time to do some research 🤔

I’m sure I will adjust to it over time but couldn’t agree more the XC bike is much nicer 👌

Get that spoiler and go faster stripe on… it works.. it’s science
Ahh that’s what’s missing a spoiler 😜😂
Those socks should come with a warning " not for childens calfs"
😂 might have to see if they sell a kids range 🤔😂
Oh, I'm not big, but I'm too old for 36 wide bars.. 😅😂.. 40s is the narrowest I'll go..😅😂😊
😂 it definitely took some getting used to but they finally feel good now 👌
Definitely go latex tubes and waxing the chain.
Will definitely be looking into the tubes 👌
Try sockeloen for aero socks
Will have a look 👍

Spray Hair spray on your legs to hold your aero socks up
+1, Hairspray is the friend you need

😂 yeah it’s definitely something to work on and takes a while to adjust… it’s safe to say you can’t do it with 1 hour of practice 😬
Aliexpress has really cheap good aero socks
