    Recently switched from the M2 to the F9 based on performance during the fitting but mainly how comfortable I felt with it. Shaft changed from 70g stiff to 60g x stiff and loft down to 8 degrees. I seemed to hit it consistently better but in my mind it was all down to comfort level. Starting lessons with Phil Archer this week to hopefully improve the comfort and performance levels further!

    Struck my F9 driver with an ATMOS Tour Spec Black 7 x-stiff today for the first time today. Hit it slightly towards the heel and it still flew 299 minus the rollout. The sound was amazing and startled the gentleman next to me. Thanks for the review guys! Helped a lot for my fitting.

    Recently bought the F9 after a fitting ... was the first bought from new Driver I’ve ever had ... the *thud* sound and the feel of the club was the immediate plus point from hitting it (especially indoors in the test). Out on the course it got better with finding more fairways (which was the main purpose of getting fit for & purchasing myself a new driver) and again the feel of the club in my hands.
    I also tested the M6 G400 and Epic flash ... in the end it was between the M6 and the Cobra ... the point of difference was simply that the Cobra made me smile ... a lot
    Interesting vid Gents ... in truth, I don’t think I’m a good enough player to consistently hit in one spot so not noticed the issue you raised.

    I own an F9 after a lot of testing on most of the new drivers and it was miles ahead. Weirdly my good strike is also slightly toe-y. And I got my best numbers out of it by miles. It was 5mph average ball speed faster than epic flash and M6 (6mph faster than ts2 sorry mark). Also I’m an ex fitter myself and like to think I was a good one too. Definitely not saying you’re wrong but from the one I have and have used now a few times on course it’s been superb.

    Great video, I had a fitting with F9 against M5, for me the spin was definitely higher in the F9 but I was getting 5 to 12 yards longer with it. Can’t recall the launch angles but I ordered the F9 with a non standard stiff shaft (Fujikura Atmos 7S) this gave me my best numbers, but also it just felt the best for me and just felt easier to hit consistently, I play off 9 handicap.

    • @ciarancummins7
      @ciarancummins7 5 лет назад

      I found the same, that shaft is excellent for me too. I also was getting straighter shots, which should be the #1 consideration for a Driver that you are hitting more fairways with. And it looks like the F9 does not lose on distance at the same time.

  • @tjriordan77
    @tjriordan77 5 лет назад

    I tested both. For me the F9 sat better at address and I liked the look of the top of the club, however I tested the white F9 with a more matte finish on top. I struck the F9 better than the Epic Flash, it was just a more comfortable club in my hands and with what my swing produces. I played the F7+ for the past 1.5 years so I wasn’t surprised at the results the F9 produced. Key point here is go test the clubs and get fit. Thanks Mark!

    Bought the epic flash sub zero and gained major yards vs my taylormade r580. Launching at 13.5 and 1900 rpm. Ball speed 150s and carry about 275. I range from 70-80% fairways in regulation. Love the driver.

  • @simiangolf1927
    @simiangolf1927 5 лет назад

    I purchased the Callaway Epic Flash Sub Zero, only cause of the lower spin and better ball speeds and the adjustable weight in the back got it all in, I had the Epic never bought the Rogue cause it did not improve on the Epic for me, but the flash is giving more ball speed , lower spin and the weight in the back was what made me hooked. Best driver I have ever had and hands down my longest. Finally drove a green a few days ago with the Callaway Epic Flash that I could never have done with any other driver I had before. Just wish the sound was not as loud, but with drives like I have been hitting I will deal with a loud tinner sound

      @Karma-qt4ji 4 года назад

      Sorry for being so late to the party...
      I noticed that too, but what surprised me more was the attitude that this was considered the best club based solely on distance. A 51 yard left strike is more often than not in a heap of trouble, and can lead to having to take 3 off the tee. For me, as a regular mid HC player, I would always opt to lose a bit of distance if I can keep it in or close to the fairway; being further from the tee does not always mean being closer to the pin, and being closer to the pin does not automatically mean that you have an easier approach.

      I also noticed that the two shots they compared the f9 was definitely hit more out of center, but the reason it got 14 yards less was due to the face open column.... face to path was quite different causing 1000 more revs backspin!

    At a clinic Tiger woods was testing a driver out. He said he only swings a club 2-4 times when testing it because he will adjust his swing to make it hit the shot he wants with the club. After 2-3 he stops hits his gamer for a while then comes back and hits 2-3. Then he can say oh yes that club does xyz without switching his swing. Total CG tracker!!!

      Driver is the weakest club in the bag for Tiger Woods as he is very inconsistent with it. So I certainly don't use him for guidance here. Dustin Johnson on the other hand uses his driver to overpower courses with his distance AND consistency. He uses TaylorMade M5 10.5* with Fujikura Speeder 661 Evolution 2.0 Tour Spec X-Flex. But as is always said, you have to get fitted for YOUR swing. Myself, I use Callaway Epic with Fujikura Speeder 661 stiff

    It's very interesting, Mark. I really hope you read this because I found the exact opposite. The F9 was super consistent for me all over the face. The Epic Flash was not. Oddly I play my driver most often from that exact hight toe area you mentioned, I get great smash factor from that point with the F9. The Epic Flash was also good for me from that spot, but oddly my smash factor seemed to go way down every time I hit it off the very center. It was crazy. I got great results with the Epic Flash everywhere on the face except the center???? No idea why. But I went with the F9 and have loved it.
    Love the channel, great course vlogs too, btw. Cheers.

      +1 for this. I would love to see that. TXG is very good, and the opposite opinion on shaft fitting to what Mark sees. Finally, a comparison where all variables are the same. Shafts, lofts, lies, etc. I find it interesting that the F9 seems to have hot (and conversely, dead?) spots on the face. Some of the other reviewers have had the same results but have not said anything about them, possibly chalking them up to poor strikes and leaving it at that. With the price manufacturers are demanding for their drivers, we should at least see consistency across the face. Well done, guys!

  • @tjshine8022
    @tjshine8022 5 лет назад

    Wow, Dan has a silky smooth swing! Mark, I totally agree with you. I started finding the best launch and low spins were off the high toe of my 9.5 SLDR and taught myself to hit there. With my 2016 M2 driver it is the hottest place on the face, but not with the 2017-2019 drivers. That spot feels dead on the new TM and Cobras and my carry yardage suffers. Thanks for this video!

  • @svenhallauer3229
    @svenhallauer3229 5 лет назад

    I tested both of these head to head together with the M5 and I ended up liking the M5 the best followed by the F9 and the Epic Flash Sub Zero last. The M5 delivered the best average results by a few yards in carry and dispersion was also a bit smaller. F9 and Epic were nearly identical for me, but I just like the look and sound of the F9 better compared to the Epic. I'm not a high toe hitter like Mark, I deliver my 106MpH club head speed usually a few degrees up, but more high-center or even high-heal.

    Love the commentary from you both, especially when talking about changing what you are doing to accommodate the club. Fitting is so important, and while doing it, compare your current driver. I have found that it so often comes down to subtle things, look, feel, sound, and now, price. Performance is very close. I had a fitting with ping & they couldnt get near my callaway epic sub zero for feel & DISTANCE. Just bought the F9, can't say I noticed the weekspot yet, but I definetly get better results on lower strikes compared to my old M2 from 2016, so it could ofcourse be the case that high is not the best place for the F9. But as skilled as You are, you should stop trying to find hightoe.... Just because that was the best spot on your older club.... The F9 was the first driver I've tried since 2017 that did give me better numbers, and I have tried loads of clubs.... Needed heavier weights than standard to get optimal numbers. Different heads also seem to "like" diffetent shafts. For me, Hazardous Smoke gave me good feel an numbers in other heads, but for the F9 it was the Tensei Blue that performed best.
    Only one conclusion; get fitted....
    I do belive that with a good fitter you wilö get the same numbers in the end with all the different heads....

    I habe recrntly changed to tge m4 and am having the same issue of distance loss with higher on the face drives and I also struggle to get a toe draw it tends to block. On the plus side as yet my snap hook doesn't hook as much and I don't over draw as much. However I am finding it the easiest to fade driver I have played. With other drivers I couldn't control the fade and was much shorter when fading the ball. I had to spray the face to check strike as i couln't work out what was going on. Last three drivers I owned are RBZ, Nike covert 2 and JPX850.

    I agree with what Mark said about him finding the same place on the head and why changing driver faces doesn't help him... But I am assuming (I don't know) that a newer to the game player and a player who hits it all over the face might benefit from the supposed "face improvements"
    And maybe more experienced/better drivers/players are aware that changing your driver ISN'T going to give you those magical extra 7 yards so they maybe buy less drivers?
    No idea if those statements are factual but they are possibilities

    I think you probable need the correct shaft fitted or mess about with a selection of shafts with cobra and U will see a massive difference in you're numbers. There are heavier weights now available for the cobra so fire one in and check again. Weigh the 2 heads for a comparison because if you are using same shaft in both but the cobra is 198g then epic is 203 then try some weight taped to the bottom near the face just to check how your strike is. That's what they did with Matt on TXG. Give it a go Mark.

    Comparing Dan’s last shot just goes to say the geometric centre is not the sweet spot and that it’s relative to delivery both in terms of a dynamic geometric centre and a dynamic sweet spot that is optimal for your personal delivery. This is what I have come to understand from you Mark.

    Mark I think the main reason why most of us are rooting for the Cobra f9 is because it's around £100 cheaper than the main competition. Over the last 5 years particularly with drivers the cost has skyrocketed. With luck Cobra will outsell all the others and perhaps influence them to reduce price points to more realistic levels. Here's hoping 🤞🏼

    I thought rory hit it out of the heel most of the time? I would love to see you do a video with moving the weights and seeing how the player follows the weight and makes its work. I have. An original M1 and also tend to hit out of the heel side more than not, I have messed with the weight in the heel and thought that might help line up weight, also get toe closing squaring face, but should I do the opposite (put weight in toe more) to try to move my strike closer to middle?

  • @commane21
    @commane21 5 лет назад

    Interesting about Rory's strikes and all .... My "center strike" is same as yours -- high and on the toe side. Makes for a high draw. I would feel totally jammed if I had to hit it in the middle of the face. And I don't know how doing so would affect the flight.
    BTW -- if a player does tend to favor high toe, would that sort of rule out the TM? Their marketing tells us they should help my high toe, but I think it would actually prevent it from coming back, or not as much. Turn a draw into a push? Dunno.

  • @bdeheton6445
    @bdeheton6445 5 лет назад

    I don't tend to hit many high toe shots, so I don't have an opinion about those strikes with the F9 driver. I do tend to hit a lot of high centre and the occasional strike towards the heel though and when I've hit the F9 it performed very well on those strikes, and possibly better on the heel strikes than any driver I've hit. The Epic Flash is $150+ more than the F9 for us down here, so it would have to way outperform the F9 to make me want to buy it.
    The results you're getting might be the tradeoff with the changes they've made to the roll and bulge - better out of the heel, and worse out of the toe. I think Cobra have used this face design for several generations of driver though, so it should be about the same results on toe shots you would have seen out of the F7 and F8 drivers I would think?

  • @jamesharrison5004
    @jamesharrison5004 5 лет назад

    The F9 and TM M6 both have that pronounced tail section lowering MOI - is that why you're having difficulty getting the results you'd expect from certain areas of the face?
