Great video! Please do more of these. I have the GBB Epic and I am trying to figure out if it is worth it to get a newer model (performance vs price). In general, the review videos are the new model vs the prior year’s, but most of us don’t buy clubs every year. We buy clubs every 3, 4, or 5 years or we get used clubs of prior years that are still an upgrade. This was great for me to see the performance of the GBB Epic and to look upgrade to the Epic Flash! Thanks again!
Another great test and much like the TM one the spin numbers seem to jump up and down through the years, not in a linear way. Again like TM the Epic GBB and M2 2016 might lose a couple of yards, but I do wonder if your swing speed would increase slightly as you loosen up? however they are super straight and have great dispersion numbers. All the marketing we have forced down our throats especially by Callaway and TM doesn't seem to add up to much in the real world. Once again love the content.
If we assume that the differences in club head speed was Thomas and not the club and then we were to normalise the results based on a set club head speed there is very little between the drivers in ball speed, the Mavrik every so slightly out performs the other 3 on balls speed based on a set club head speed. The next thing that stood out for me was that whilst the Rogue is a good club, at least in this test objectively it was the worst performer. The final thing that stood out for me was that the Epic Flash and Mavrik seem to have found a little extra gear compared to the Epic. Taking into account the extra c.3mph that Thomas swung the Epic Flash and Mavrik compared to the Epic that should result in a 6-7 yard extra carry. The Epic Flash was 9 yards further (so maybe only 2-3 yards further at same speed) and the Mavrik an astonishing 14 yards further which would equate to 7-8 yards more carry at the same swing speed. Impressive development by Callaway
I think the actual differences in the clubs would only be seen by not hitting in the center. The middle of modern day drivers are essentially maxed out... I want to see what happens when you hit a low heel or high toe. That's where I would expect to see real changes, if they exist.
The Rouge was set in the upright draw biased setting? Had pretty much the same clubhead speed & smash factor of 1.50. He was hitting lower less spin “pulls” as he called them. I don’t understand why they didn’t hit a few in the neutral flatter setting & results should have been better.
Hi Declan, thanks for watching. Thomas had all models in the upright setting. In hindsight, he maybe didn't need to set them up in the upright setting!
You make a good point in that the center of the clubfaces are governed in terms of the pop that they can produce. However, distance can still be increased by optimizing spin.
Thanks for watching and commenting, Justin! You've put together some good analysis here. While we wish we could have an actual robot test the clubs with the exact same swing, Thomas is the closest thing we have! It seems like the Artificial Intelligence that Callaway has used to help develop the last two driver models (Epic Flash and Mavrik) have produced a bit better performance.
@@ronaldwestra8735 I have the SFT 10.5, love the matt finish living in Oz as no sun glare. I had 6 drivers at one point, and this is in the bag. It could be the shaft, but my Epic goes 10 meters longer, same conditions, but Im less confident with it. I like the soft head cover too, although mine is showing some micro surface cracks/lines but I bought 2nd hand and it could have been over sun baked. Being a lefty, have to take what we can get...
@@2ndswing I had 6 drivers at one point, sold M1, M4 and Miz ST180. Still have G400 sft, GBB Epic and F9. Epic goes furthest, G400 most forgiving and F9 is newest but may end up on ebay as it doesnt do anything better than the other 2 and I dont like the sound as much as the other 2 either. Great build quality, including headcover.
Rogue was a pull hook machine for me. Felt too light. Mavrik sub-zero was better but still has the occasional snappy hook, even with the heavy weight back. Thinking I should have gone with the Epic flash with weight towards the toe. Current gamer is still a Nike Covert 2 tour, in the fade setting. Rarely hook it. Need something with similar flight characteristics but a bit longer and more forgiving.
I'm wondering the same thing. I'm using the XR16 Pro and can't imagine driving the ball any better, but this has me thinking maybe there's even more out there.
I saw a test where the XR16 (which I am currently playing) was pretty much the same as the Ping G410, and another test where the Mavrik was way better than the Ping. When prices come down in a couple years I will probably move up to the Mavrik.
Hi Victor, thanks for watching! Yes, Mavrik was released back in January. But the other three models in the test are from 2017 (GBB Epic), 2018 (Rogue), and 2019 (Epic Flash).
Dont buy a Calloway, the crown will break. Hit high on the club face on two different epic GBB's. Both broke on the top of the crown. First was replaced by Calloway, the second, I am afraid to send back.
Yeah its not the club, its your swing. had someone complain about weak, breaking shafts, let em use my old bb and they broke it first swing by hitting the shaft. Had it for 10 years before that with no issues.
Thanks for the comment! It doesn't seem like much, but it could be the difference between hitting a 7-iron or a 9-iron into the green, for example, which can make a big difference.
how could you? how could you not see the flaw in your testing strategy??! First off, your test suggests that in 5 yrs callaway has made a 12yd gain after a mere 3 driver developments? 4 yds per year gain compared to an historic average of 1 yd per year across all drivers from all manufacturers. I highly doubt that. The obvious hiccup in your testing plan was hitting the mavrik last after he is warmed up and 'in the groove'; you should have done a return set of drives working from mavrik reverse through to 2017 Epic and THEN averaged out the numbers...... but then again, that would have been bad for marketing. you may have convinced some, but most are looking at this test cock-eyed.
Ahh love this test!
Thank you for watching!!
I played GBB Epic SZ until the carbon crown cracked. Loved the sound and feel of that driver.
We agree -- it still competes pretty darn well with the newest models, as our test showed!

another great test! keep it coming :)
Thank you for the comment!
Hopefully Thomas and Drew will do TM Driver comparison among SLDR, R15, M1 (2016), M1 (2017), M3, M5, SIM. All with the same shaft.
We've already discussed this idea and it's on our list!
Thank you
@@2ndswing just make sure you do a reversing set of drives to cancel out 'warm up' and 'in the groove' factors

Happy with the distance from my Epic but my G400 is more forgiving.
MidLifeBiker same here. And the distance with my G400 max is even the same. So at this moment my favorite driver.
G400 products are pretty great too!
Yeah, G400 products from PING are very solid too. Most important part is that you've got something that works for you!

Is the heavier weight at front or back for all these heads?
Thnx

Absolutely -- PING has always been one of the best. The G410 family is no different.

Was the Mavrik tested with the heavy weight in the back?
Hi Taylor, thanks for watching. The heavier weight was in the front of the clubhead for the Mavrik.
@@2ndswing Strange the spin was a couple of hundred RPM in a smaller club head. What are your thoughts on that?

Sucks that you have to use range balls.
It's not ideal, but we can use the normalization button on Trackman to provide data that correlates with a premium golf ball!
