I compare the 2019 Callaway Epic Flash Sub Zero against the new 2020 Callaway Mavrik Sub Zero Driver in a head to head battle. Two of the low spin drivers battling it out but which is the winner?

Callaway, Taylormade, Mizuno, Cobra etc...All of them launched not one but a range of new drivers in recent weeks, all very closed in termes of performances. We've reach the limits prescribed by the golf rules (head size, MOI, smash factor etc...). So the only thing left to do is rectify any faults noted by moving a little weight here and there.
I absolutely love my Epic Flash Sub Zero. Not worth the upgrade. Epic Flash SZ is a very good driver.
The difference in your numbers are solely strike based. There was one with the epic which spun at 2500. Take that away they are equal.
I found Mavrik SZ sounds better than Epic Flash SZ. Mavrik, not significantly longer, but more consistent and better dispersion on off centre hits.
Michael what is the length of your driver? The problem i am having with my cobra f9. The head fills heavy. I have a v2 shaft 57g. @ 46.5. its all over the place. F8 is straight and the head lighter. wondering if i need to cut my shaft down to equal out the weight ? Or get a heavier shaft? Thanks. I just had my right ankle replaced. I couldn't push off . So now i can really push off better. Thanks
Michael are you going to compare the regular Epic Flash vs regular Mavrik?
This is so interesting. Especially when you moved the weights forward on the maverick. I moved the weights forward on my F9 but I found that I actually hit it straighter and further. Would be cool to see a comparison between the f9 and the maverick
Epic flash legitimately hurt my ears especially inside at the shop.
The weight forward option is complete nonsense for anybody who's not an active member of the PGA Tour - unless one swings at 120 MpH and hits a degree or two down on the ball the misses will kill your score. I agree that the removal of the line on the top is a plus point, but equally for me the move to the orange is a negative so they balance each other out. Which means this comes down to the ability to affect shot-shape slightly with the movable weight in the Epic Flash vs. better sound with the Mavrik - I know that I'll be staying with the Epic Flash Sub Zero this year.
I don't find this to be true. I get around 110mph and if I have drivers in the weight back config i get higher spin, higher launch, lose distance, lose straightness
They just bring to many drivers out every 2 years is enough just like titlist do but they may be good drivers but not good enough to warrant buying again
Would like to see a comparison between the Rogue SZ and the Mavrik SZ since that’s the replacement. It’s not a replacement for the flash.
It will be eventually as price point of Flash will be realigned probably mid season so Mavrik will then sit as there premium offering.
@@MichaelNewtonGolf I think this would be a good comparison too since the weight system is the same in the Rogue and Mavrik
One more request for Mavrik SZ vs Rogue SZ.
@@MichaelNewtonGolf Yeah I would really like to see the same comparison. Common trend seems to be that there is really minimal difference from one model year to the next so I would love to see what a difference two model years makes if any.

Did the standard Mavrik provide any faster clubhead speed with the "aerodynamics"?
interesting.....another video landing very soon that a certain driver provides a more speed :-)
The trees are full of players with low spin drivers
Long and Wrong baby!!!
And there balls

@TalentlessGolfer one day you will be be able to swing it fast enough to have a “low spinning driver” haha
I hit the same, if not more fairways than people I play with that have normal “spinning drivers”. It’s all about technique not the clubs you play with
Have you ever heard of optimal numbers??
Enjoy hitting high cuts spinning at 3000rpm and flying them 220ish off the tee 👍
@@aaronwiesniewski9955 its a take off a famous quote from Harvey pennick mate, never mind. I carry my 3 hybrid 220 by the way 😉
Doesn't the sub zero make the standard version pointless?
I already spin it low so the subzero definitely wouldn't work with the weight forward and maybe not with the weight back.
I have the Epic Flash Sub Zero. It's very forgiving and length is good for me. But my goodness, the sound SUCKS. I am going to change to the Mavrik for this reason alone.
2:05 fart sound??
Yes; I believe it was. Good catch.
Lol.
😆
cant you comper the original epic sz with mavrik sz have been fun to see how mutch diffrent there is
Gotta loft it up when you switch the weight
If you erased the 271 carry of the epic flash the difference would be nothing in distance.
I really wanna see a high handicapper swing these and just see what happens
I'm pretty sure your numbers were not much different when you tested the callaway speed and thats a 1/4 of the price.
I think the new callaway maverik and taylormade sim drivers are SO HIDEOUSLY UGLY!!! The good news is I'll only have to wait till next week for a new version to come out.
