    I appreciate TXG's integrity in giving an honest first opinion, and to state that the thorough tests, comparisons, and fitting experiences will come later. We all want to know what your first impressions are, but given all of the driver introductions coming this year, will want to know how it stacks up to their previous models and competition.

    Good review. Yours is actually one of the few reviews so far that actually produced better numbers with Flash than other drivers in comparisons and actually backed up some of the claims from Callaway. Just reinforces the variations in testing and golfers.

      But Matt does not represent even 1/4 of a. 1 percent of real golfers Looks good to the manufactures But is useless to the average golfer Without 85 to 90 mph swing testers doing tests Pointless Mat is a pro tester only Test invalid for more than 99%of plyers

    • @davidlum8313
      @davidlum8313 5 лет назад +1

      @@billryan8707 My comment was more of an observation than validation. Almost all of the other reviews/tests of Flash did not show improvement of numbers like speed, distance, spin...No doubt Matt is better than most of the viewers, but I will split hairs and say the test is valid. The results may not be applicable to 99% of players, but the test results are valid unless their equipment is faulty.

    Great honesty - your videos are a must watch. Think it was this time last year I started watching you guys and you've knocked it out of the park ever since
    People like Rick Sheils (whilst good), don't get the true impact of the club down like you guys just did. Where else would you get specific points around face stability, and spot on with the feedback from hundreds of testers!! Just wish there were more reviewers like you!!
    Keep up the hard work, need to save for tickets to Canada from UK to get fitted!!

    End of that video was great. How cool is it to hear for once "Don't go buy these yet" as opposed to "You have to have the latest and greatest right now" message these OEMs pump out? Wish I could fast forward to April for a number of reasons; I'll be able to golf outdoors again, the Masters, Longer days, but when all of these new products have had time to simmer and get put through the ringer, that's when you'll know what these products really are, and if it's worth an upgrade. I can tell you I'll for sure be coming here early and often as my primary point of reference for my decision making.
    Thanks again guys

    I'm glad to see such honest reviews from you guys. Rather than buy this or that, you always recommend getting fit. I went for a driver fitting a month ago, but couldn't quite get everything dialed in. I am a little outside in with driver (2 degrees) but struggle with closing the face and spin the ball a ton. Rogue subzero was closest, but the face was just a tad too open. I'm interested to see if flash subzero with weight towards the heel is going to be the answer. Going to find out in a few months when I try again.

I hope y'all do more head to head comparisons that move the weights to the extremes and watch the results. Ranking which heads actually close or open the club face significantly. When I (97-100 mph) first tested the Epic a couple of years ago I saw increased ball speeds against all other drivers at that time (same session). But when looking at any reviews on the internet of pros and better faster players they do not experience that kind of increase. Makes me wonder if jailbreak (and other technologies) at that time made more of a difference to moderate swingspeeds than with faster swing speeds. That might be an interesting video comparing the ball speed gains (if any) with new tech between different swing speeds.

    • @dmassey1740
      @dmassey1740 5 лет назад

      I’m same speed and I think it has to do with head weight. Callaway is around 20g lighter than the other guys so we get a little more swing speed and that led to ball speed. I’ve found TS3 to be faster than the original epic even with the difference in clubhead speed

    • @shanoneva
      @shanoneva 5 лет назад +1

      @@dmassey1740 I did not gain head speed with the epic but smash factor was consistently higher than with other heads. That made me a believer in Jailbreak. Would be interested to test the newer heads. Without having hit the flash, I'm a bit disappointed from what I have seen so far.

    Is it time to start talking about driver technology reaching its peak? Callaway has used A.I. to game out 34 years of technology and it only produces similar ball speed, launch and distance numbers compared to the 2018 Ping G400? I might not need a new driver until the year 2053!

    • @clubchampionmedia
      @clubchampionmedia  5 лет назад +1

      It's hard to imagine what the future holds, but people probably had this conversation at many points over the last 30 years - I think as technology in general advances, golf will see its share of new innovations although chances are they'll be things to improve forgiveness, consistency, etc.

    I have the Old Epic went to Tiburon to the Shark shoot out and tried the Epic Flash and I am getting around 2/3 mph ball speed. Really not enough to change clubs. The Main reason I did was cause the Epic Sub Zero came with the adjustable weight on the back and I not could control my ball flight a bit better than the Epic Suz Zero. So I did purchase it for that and hitting more fairways with it

    • @clubchampionmedia
      @clubchampionmedia  5 лет назад +1

      Just our initial test, and important to note that smash factor is based on how the GC Quad reads the clubhead speed - sometimes different shaped heads can give slight discrepancies in clubhead speed so at this point we wouldn't make any conclusions. Lots more testing with this driver to come.

    I've noticed that the swingweight of drivers is running lighter, assuming lighter equates to faster clubhead speed. I was reading about Ben Hogans clubs and his spec's and noticed that the article claimed that Ben's driver came in at G2, the heaviest they had ever measured. Would it benefit a player with a slower swingspeed to play with a driver that is heavier? If a slower swinging player could increase his clubhead speed with a shorter heavier driver, would he gain distance? I built a lightweight 47" driver with a 190 gram head with a 45 gram shaft and 26 gram grip, I lost distance over my 45"' standard driver. Thanks for your comments. I would like to see you guys tinker with different weighted driver heads.

    • @clubchampionmedia
      @clubchampionmedia  5 лет назад

      Going too light in head weight is likely to actually reduce ball speed, there's a point where too heavy would reduce clubhead speed also

    Question: How does Matt get a 315 carry on a 170s ball flight?
    How inaccurate are the ball speed reading on tour? Rory hardly ever goes under 180mph and is rarely achieving 310 carries....
    I have heard Bubba Watson complain about this on a golf.com video out there saying such.

    • @clubchampionmedia

      They don't seem right on a lot of broadcasts, from what we've seen. You don't need 180mph+ ball speed to carry it 310 unless launch conditions aren't good.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

    Looking at some of the hits where Matt feels like he hit it as good as he possible could, the smashfactor was around 1.41. What is missing there? Why do we not see a higher smashfactor? As soon as he switched to his own driver we saw numbers around 1.45-1.46.

      Could just be the way GC Quad was reading the clubhead speed - sometimes different shaped/coloured heads can have slight discrepancies in readings. However the ball speed readings are always reliable.

    How do you decide how to buy an iron? No iron ticks every box for me. I prefer to align blades. They make me more dialled with SP/CFA but for example the apex mb dont come with the shafts I want ( DG AMT X100) and the mp18 are just a hair too low spinning but I enjoy the heavier weight... OR do you go slightly less playable yet forgiving 919 tours or apex pro '19's (still d2). It seems like an impossible choice. Have hit all of them and they all perform similarly but do you ever sacrafice spin for swingweight or forgiveness for accuracy? It's an absolute nightmare, the only thing I know is I would like new irons but I'm in a bit of a pickle to be honest.

    When someone from out of town comes to txg for a fitting, for example someone needs to get a flight from the states, probably get a hotel for the night etc. how do you go about fitting a full set of irons and woods, testing/building/gapping all in one session? Or what’s the normal process? I assume typically someone that lives close would come in for one session and get fit and then the clubs get ordered and built, then when they arrived you go back in for a second gapping fine tune session. But how does the process work for those that have to travel a fair distance?

    • @clubchampionmedia
      @clubchampionmedia  5 лет назад

      A lot of out of town customers will do their fittings over the course of two days, and then final built clubs can be shipped to your home address. The gapping session is the only issue for out of town visitors, not something that's feasible during a short term visit.

I've started getting a bit back into playing now but I can't find a decent set of used MP-33s. I found some refurbished ones in England that have been cerakoted. Matt's smash factor seemed to be a bit higher on the Ping, But they were both struck similarly. Is there a reason for the epic to be a bit lower? or was it all down to strike?

    • @jasonconsidine9927
      @jasonconsidine9927 5 лет назад

      I was wondering a similar question but to compare ball speed on similarly efficient strikes. Matt centered his gamer which is expected but is ball speed lower off the flash or was it another reason? To me a 1.41 is average to below average smash but I'm used to trackman readings.

      There's some validity to what Mark is saying but CG doesn't move far enough to significantly change effect of bulge and roll.

    • @wallstreetoneil
      @wallstreetoneil 5 лет назад

      That is not what he said. Mark was pointing out that if you move the track inward to the Drawish setting and then you hit the middle of the club, with less bulge and roll than the outside of the club, then it will have a different reaction than if you leave the movable weight in the middle and hit the outer edge of the driver with more bulge and roll. Mark did not say or imply that the movable weight does not do anything - watch it again. Moreover, all you have to do is hit a Draw Based Driver, such as the M4 Draw, and you can see where the weight is placed - and trust me, that thing draws like crazy. When Ian placed to weight in the toe for Matt, the weight slows that part of the club down leaving the toe more open and thus keeps more loft on the club at impact - all things being equal - it also moves the CG outwards which places more mass behind a toe strike at impact (and thing Mark said on his video)

    • @ennuigolf6525

      You should check out what My Golf Spy has to say about drive CG and how the CG moves with moving weights around the driver. mygolfspy.com/2018-driver-cg-report/ They have older years too.

    • @ennuigolf6525
      @ennuigolf6525 5 лет назад +1

      The CG does not move much but it moves. The weight has more to do with being able to close the club face or make it harder to close the face.
