from my experience with the G14 for a year. i can say that my screen is already slightly bended because of the heat even with that plastic chain. My first laptop buy will be a G14. I just love the simplistic look and how light it is for a gaming laptop. It's almost a perfect laptop. I really hope this is in my budget or I would have to go with the older versions.
Thank you, this is exactly what I needed. I watched your laptop reviews, specifically Asus and I chose the 13"Zenbook - OLED screen, 16/512, 360°, and I am so happy with this laptop (thank you for your reviews that helped me decide) that I do not regret not being able to grill my fish or float my boat. I'll leave those specific tasks to appropriate machines and revel in this lightweight-better-than-a-phone-pc... I can almost put it in my pocket !
I plan on grabbing the Asus Zenbook 14 with the oled panel too. I'd be coming from a g14(2020), and I have realized that I don't need the machine to game when I have my desktop for that. I'll be using the zenbook strictly for work (web dev and graphic design), and moving from the par panel that the 2020 g14 has to an oled 2k screen is going to be awesome.
Hey Dave, just wanted to say you were right about the heat being directed at the screen. Users are reporting discoloration and sometimes dead screens altogether after a year or so use.

@nikkiragnvindr8418 Get a MacBook for school, and a console or build a PC for gaming. Trying to get one machine to do everything was the dumbest thing I've ever done.
I always knew AMD and ASUS had the potential of making small efficient gaming laptops. Judging by the efficiency and performance, I am hoping an RX6600S 6/8GB will be released to beat the RTX 3050Ti 4GB, which is slower than a GTX 1660TI 6GB but still used as a GPU for thinner or budget devices. Edit: Also same price as 3050Ti would be perfect
Damn this is good. Since I'm not very interested in games I'm now looking for this one and the new razer 14. My main interest is battery life, hope in a razer review in the next days 🤞
Awesome, I've been waiting for reviews about the latest versions of ASUS laptops! Would this new version of G14 be good for video editing, Photoshop and colour correction? Is the colour accuracy good enough?
This would have been a pretty good choice for me, if it wasn’t for that ergolift hinge. I’m looking for a laptop I can travel with, and the fact that this laptop only has a ridge at the end to scrape over surfaces or dig into your legs, instead of a solid flat bottom, gives me a major ick. Guess I’ll wait for other brands to release their 2022 models.
I absolutely love Asus' dedication to keep improving this product year after year. It's not enought to make me upgrade from my first gen G14, but they're clearly listening to their customers. I run my laptop HARD and over the past 2 years I have never had any issues with temperatures. They seem to have properly tested it to hold up to the tempeartures they're pushing. One downside is the fans aren't very durable. I'm on my third set becuse the bearings crap out every 9 months or so, but I would consider my use case to be extreme (high fan rpm for 8 hours plus per day)
Went to Best Buy last night and they had on display the 2021 G14 and that display/keyboard/sound was fantastic. I can only imagine how much more powerful this new 2022 version is. Quick question on anyone that has purchased last year's model: how has it been going so far? Any issues or concerns?
I got my 2021 model from best buy around 6 months ago, and its been great. Once, my G14 stopped connecting to internet, but the fix was as simple as holding down the power button for 1 minute.
i have the 2021 one for 5 mounths now ,it’s a very good 14” laptop fantastic battery life ,good screen and speakers etc but there are some problems you should know first you are killing the 3060 by limiting it to 80w its like 10-15% less fps than max-p 3060 , mediatek wifi card is not so great either sometimes it just stops working (happened twice so far) and you’ve got to restart to connect again, and not having a webcam is a problem sometimes especially if you are student , it doesn’t have rgb just white backlit but it isn’t great either if you look at it carefully you can see that it’s a bit uneven and some keycaps are brighter than others , other than these i haven’t seen any other problems

I have 2020 G14 and I love it. It gets hot yes, but the versatility is amazing. I would switch to a new one for webcam and bigger touchpad, but I think this is way too soon.
VERY happy to see they've exposed the removable connector on the battery side, in previous models this was either not exposed or not present. The only apparent way to disconnect the battery was to remove a free-floating conductive metal clip on the board side right above exposed traces leading to the battery controller. Yikes.
I recently bought this one but with a lower VCard 6700s, should i get a cooling system or simply rely on its vapor tech? If so what could be the best one for its size?
You're one of the best, most trusted reviewers, Dave2D. I can barely remember my past criticisms of you, perhaps that you're overly optimistic, especially when it comes to Apple being decent toward its users. That is a laugh. They won't do anything they don't have to to make themselves look good unless it makes them MORE money, not give up profitable techniques and hold-backs to make its users pay for expensive upgrades. Thanks for your great reviews! I trust them more than most by far.
1:25 this easily could have been "with great power comes great responsibility". What i dont like about the asus G14 series its that they dont have SD card slots
For me the g14 has always been the laptop to beat. Unfortunately I am not sure if the 6800S really is an improvement over the 3060. Don't get me wrong for gaming it is fine. But gaming laptops also make great mobile workstations for 3D art. And AMDs ray tracing on desktop has been a behind nvidia so a blender or arnold Render with GPU acceleration would have been interesting to see if it really holds up.
AMD has taken the crown from intel for me as far as mobile cpus are concerned. They aren’t the best performing but much more efficient than an intel cpu. My old laptop had a 1060 and an 8th generation i7 it could only get roughly an hour on battery my g15 I can easily stretch it close to the 10 hour mark

Every laptop user should know this. 1. Just “raise the bottom” let more air into the machine and you will found cpu&gpu each them reduce 10~15°C or in high usage will have more efficacy 2. You shouldn’t be use “laptop cooler” , cuz that effectiveness actually just like you put two bottle caps under laptop to raise it. But the cooler still use your limited power and it will let cpu&gpu become more hungry. Unless it has an “independent power supply”. There also very many ways let your experience better , like “gamer most of the time should limit cpu’s PL1&PL2 and offset voltage” “discrete graphics card overclock”. “Replace the thermal paste and clean the fan dust”. Those worried for the display heating up, Asus has designed rear exhaust vent heat sink in such a way that only a small volume flows out of it, most of the hot air is exhausted out of the side vents.
Hey Dave, could you do a battery life & IGPU comparison between 2021 vs 2022 G14 for similar workloads. There's literally nothing else to compare between the 2.
How less is the wattage for 6nm TSMC compared to previous year's 7nm.
I believe 2022 version looked better wrt the exhaust grills on the back & with the Magnesium silver deck.

Honestly, the most impressive part of this for me personally is the integrated GPU. 27fps at 1080p Medium in Cyberpunk. Like, what?! Literally insane. I was already impressed with integrated GPUs back when I had a laptop with a 3500u that allowed me to play Witcher 3 at 720p Medium with 30fps. But this is just a whole new level. Entry-level dedicated GPUs are definitely becoming obsolete, and that’s a good thing

The 14 checks most of the boxes and will probably be my best bet for a portable productivity/performance ganing laptop but I'm still a bit hesitant.
I have the 2020 G14 (4900HS) and the fingerprint sensor rarely works. Windows Hello through my Logitech Brio is way more reliable.
Fair enough. As long as I can auto sign in with apps, I'd be happy. Though it would have been nice if they had a reliable fingerprint sensor, with wearing masks and all. At least they got rid of something everybody knows wasn't working.

I'm on my third set becuse the bearings crap out every 9 months or so, but I would consider my use case to be extreme (high fan rpm for 8 hours plus per day)
Agree on the fans. I'm already on my 3rd set of fans. At least the warranty's great and they replaced my fans free of charge.

Damn…111 Words Per Minute is pretty impressive Dave.
Every laptop user should know this.
1.
Just “raise the bottom” let more air into the machine and you will found cpu&gpu each them reduce 10~15°C or in high usage will have more efficacy
2.
You shouldn’t be use “laptop cooler” , cuz that effectiveness actually just like you put two bottle caps under laptop to raise it.
But the cooler still use your limited power and it will let cpu&gpu become more hungry.
Unless it has an “independent power supply”.
There also very many ways let your experience better , like
“gamer most of the time should limit cpu’s PL1&PL2 and offset voltage”
“discrete graphics card overclock”.
“Replace the thermal paste and clean the fan dust”.
