The first Nintendo 3DS hit retail shelves in 2011. Since then, gamers across the globe have taken a liking to these handheld systems. The games available for the 3DS are ridiculously fun and the system itself is easy to use for fans of all ages. Since Nintendo, as a company, is wildly popular, it’s no surprise the 3DS was readily received by fans. In fact, it seems as though nearly everyone, from hardcore to casual gamers, has a 3DS.
Most fans of Nintendo are concerned with gameplay and which titles will be available on the system. Notably, players will expect at least one Mario title and one Pokemon title included in the list of games which can be played on the 3DS. That’s understandable, considering the fact those two titles specifically have become synonymous with the Nintendo brand. Players can’t think of one existing without the other and it’s pretty much a given Nintendo will deliver on the Mario and Pokemon front. What if, while being obsessed with new games, 3DS players overlooked some amazing features of the handheld system itself?
There are certain aspects of the Nintendo 3DS some players may not be fully aware of. From hidden games to Pikmin assistants, it’s likely most players may have easily overlooked these functions. Missing these functions may be due to the fact players are often eager to get into their favorite game or they didn’t anticipate Nintendo adding easter eggs and perks to their handheld system. Either way, there are some interesting functions of the Nintendo 3DS available for players.

@@gergthewerg It's a thing. The same trick also allows you to play GB/GBC VC games at their native resolution. It even comes with a nice little Game Boy frame to fill out the rest of the screen.
And as Lucemon mentioned, it's Start _or_ Select, not Start + Select as I initially stated.

I remember seeing the Pikmin in my data transfer when my old 3ds was broken and I had to transfer it to a new one! Interesting times.
I'm sure everyone's figured it out, but the Favorite Color also dictates the color of your Mii Fighter in Smash for 3DS/Wii U. I abused this by cloning my Mii 7 times and assigning differing favorites so my Mii Brawler wound up with the same amount of color choices as the rest of the cast.

Unfortunately, now that we've found an exploit that can't be fixed with a system update, Nintendo is just gonna have to suck it up and announce the 3DS EoL pretty soon because they're salty that we found something THEY couldn't stop us from doing.

NTRboothax. It's an exploit in the hardware which allows you to install boot9strap using a flashcart. This means it can't be fixed with a firmware update.

I've used the mike functionality in Project Mirai DX for 3DS. You can get the attention of your Vocaloid character by calling them on the mike, though it doesn't always work for me. I was also able to use it to blow out the candles on the cake the game presented me on my birthday!
I think the regular DS had that mike functionality too though. I remember you could use the mike to yell "Objection!" or "Hold it!" during trials in the first Phoenix Wright game.

In Pokemon, chatot is the only Pokemon who can use the attack chatter. The move works by someone talking into the microphone, where chatot repeats what you say, and the attack is stronger depending on how loud you voice is. It also has a chance of confusing the opponent.

I feel like some virtual console secrets would've been cool to add on this list... not many people know you can hold start while selecting a Gameboy or Gameboy color game to make the screen fit inside a Gameboy template, or hold down the y button during a gameboy game and change the color to green.
Holding L and R _(ZL & ZR for SNES)_ on any home console game, will allow you to switch between player 1 and player 2.
Holding down start when you are starting a DS game, will resize the screens to be pixel perfect, as if they were on an actual DS.

So now I knew it was me. I blowed the mic in Animal Crossing and spinned like crazy and I was like "Is this the program doing or me??" Lol
The Ok Go video was included because it was one of the first videos on Nintendo Video, a now discontinued free service who's app was included on all 3DS systems until it was discontinued that would use the Spotpass service to download 4 videos at a time. The videos would change out and new ones would replace old ones when downloaded. Nearly all Nintendo Video content is now on the 3DS eShop and can be watched in that app.

Do you know how to play AR games without using the card? Simple, On your phone find a picture of it and download it and flash it on the screen and take a picture of it with the software as normal. If you lost your card this is very helpful

The thing about the museum is used in Cardiff, UK! However, the screen is much bigger and the pictures can be seen easily and it even brings the stuffed animals to life!

That's because the Breakout clone is unique to the "New" line of handhelds. And the Louvre tour isn't a feature on any 3DS aside from the ones owned *by* the Louvre.
I always saw the spinning game logos, and I always thought it was just random.
it doesn't only happen when you blow into the mic, it also happens when you turn the angle by changing the positions of the two screens.
